Nearly a year and a half after it was announced that sixteen performers in California’s busy pornography industry had been infected with HIV in the years since a 2004 outbreak, at least two companies have again halted production on word another performer in the industry has tested positive for the virus that leads to AIDS.

The case, which is the first known HIV infection in over a year in the industry, has prompted Vivid Entertainment and Wicked Pictures to suspend production until the extent of the outbreak is known. (So far, there is only one confirmed infection.) The head of Vivid explains:

“We did this as a precaution and will continue to monitor the situation,” said Steven Hirsch, Vivid’s founder and co-chairman. “We will wait for all of the facts to emerge before resume production.”

Darren James, a performer in the industry who unwittingly infected three female co-stars after working abroad before the 2004 outbreak, lambasted the industry’s failure to change following the incident:

“I knew it was going to happen. And how many years has it been? Again. They went right back to the same habits,” James said.

James has emerged in the last year as a vocal advocate for mandatory condoms on porn sets. At a Cal/OSHA hearing in Orange County in March, James questioned the industry’s reliance on testing performers for HIV.

He reiterated that message Tuesday. “There should have been mandatory condoms. Good grief, it’s like my deal all over again. I hate that.”

A 30-year-old porn actor rumored to go by the name “Steve Driver” is said to have attacked three of his co-workers with a “machete-style weapon,” killing one and injuring two others.

Porn fans on Twitter have been tweeting and re-tweeting a picture of the alleged assailant (real name Steven Hill) who is said to have been facing the loss of his job and eviction from the work premises where he reportedly lived.

Los Angeles Police Department Det. Joel Price said Hill was both working and living at the offices of Ultima DVD Inc.

Price said Hill did production work and acted in several porn movies. But on the night of the attack, he apparently faced the loss of his job and eviction from the office.

A fan blog posted an alert, and Twitter users say the dead co-worker is fellow porn actor Tom Dong:

This is Steve Driver real name Steve Hill. Steve Driver was the name used in porn scenes. Hill was mostly in fetish vids where he was dominated/abused by women. Hill is suspected of grabbing a machete that was used as a prop, stabbing a fellow Ultima Studios (Ballbustingpornstars.com) employee. Two other employees, one being Tom Dong, came to rescue and Tom was stabbed to death. Tom Dong was also a performer in similar videos. Both Tom & Hill were living at the studio.

Hill reportedly fled the scene in a 1996 blue Toyota RAV4 with California license plate 5YTC423.

Public health data released in Los Angeles on Thursday indicated that sixteen additional adult industry performers may have been infected with HIV since the 2004 outbreak- a number much higher than the previous count of eight.

Reports are currently conflicting, and public health officials are insisting that the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation is not complying with requests for information. The Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, or AIM, insists anti-porn bias and media flame-fanning is behind sudden interest in the infections. From their website:

We are finding that many clients, patients, and companies are tempted to discuss this delicate matter with the world for whatever personal or professional gain. Fact is, that we are still awaiting final confirmation on the patient Zero, who was given a positive result on Saturday 6/6/09…

…as to the rumor that a negative result was given by error to an HIV positive patient who then worked and exposed others, this too, is not possible, as there was no result available either positive or negative until 6/6/09.

The LA Times is reporting the updated number of infections since the 2004 outbreak as 22- three times the number originally reported all along. Further fueling porn-industry panic are reports that for reasons not currently understood, the actress most recently reported as infected was allowed to work the day after receiving her positive result.

In a press release, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation is renewing calls for tighter adult industry regulation and reports that at the time of the 2004 outbreaks, only two out of two hundred adult film production companies required performers to use condoms. California’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration is said to be “mounting a probe” regarding the recent HIV scare.

The Heart Attack Grill is under attack from the nursing lobby, not becuase they refuse to serve diet coke, sell cigarettes without filters, or hamburgers called the quadruple bypass. No, Heart Attack grill is in trouble because the owner of Heart Attack Grill dresses the waitresses as “nurses” so after you have eaten your single, double to triple bypass the slutty nurse professional wait staff will wheel you out to your car.

The nursing lobby says this gives nurses a bad name and encourages the stereotype of “slutty nurses” and gives people the idea that nurses are people you can have “anonymous sex” with.

The nurses lobby comment that this sort of thing stops people from becoming nurses and therefore kills thousands of people is a joke. I can’t wait to seem them take on the porn industry, because they have been naughty, naughty boys with their portrayal of nurses.

Of course the biggest winner here will be the Heart Attack Grill and their campaign about political correctness, which has received a massive boost of free publicity that shuld see the owners laughing all the way to the deep fryer.
