A woman has filed suit against the sheriff’s department after she was pulled over for speeding and tasered by the traffic cop in front of her 3 kids.

In January 2009, 38 year old Audra Harmon and her three children were stopped by a traffic cop on a New York roadway for allegedly exceeding the posted speed limit in the area. Harmon was somewhat uncooperative, but not violent or threatening in any way.

The deputy on the scene, Sean Andrews, asked her to exit her vehicle and when she didn’t comply immediately, he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her out of her vehicle. He then hit her twice with his taser to bring her down, all in front of her kids who were in the car with her.

Harmon was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and exceeding the speed limit, but after prosecutors saw the deputy’s dash cam footage of the incident, the charges were dropped.

Harmon has now filed notice with courts that she intends to sue the sheriff’s department because she believes the deputy was not properly trained on when and how to use a taser. Her argument is that a taser is supposed to be used in lieu of lethal force, not as a cattle prod to make people comply to demands.

Since all charges surrounding the incident were dropped based on actual video footage of the incident, Harmon may have a good chance of winning the suit. Prosecutors have already determined that there was not even enough evidence to warrant a disorderly conduct charge, so there was obviously no reason for the officer to use his taser.

So what the hell is next – will cops be tasering workers at their local coffee shop for not giving them the right kind of donuts?

This taser-as-a-cattle-prod mentality the police have has gone on far too long. The police departments or whoever oversees the use of weapons of any kind should be treating the use of tasers the same as the use of lethal weapons. Having to answer to someone for their actions would soon take a bite out of their happy-go-lucky tasering sprees.

The video below shows police tasering and punching a man while trying to get him under control in a town square in the U.K. Sunday Night. The man was arrested outside the Theatre Royal on Upper Parliament Street, Nottingham U.K.

Police Taser, Punch Man in U.K. – Excessive force?

The video shows police tasering the man to keep him from getting up. It’s quite graphic and you can see the mans body is jolted by the taser shock. While he’s on the ground they punch him several times as well. Then other officers swoop in and hold the man down.

The scene was so over the top that bystanders nearby started shouting at police after seeing the excessive force they belived was being inflicted to the arrested man. The person behind the camera can be heard saying “Look at his face, did you get that? He don’t look like he is resisting.”

Don’t mess with Texas. No, really- they’ll taser your grandma.

What started as a routine traffic stop in May descended into newsworthiness when feisty 72-year-old Kathryn Winkfein refused to sign her speeding ticket. Winkfein became crochety at the young upstart police officer for demanding she sign a speeding ticket.

After refusing to sign the ticket, Winkfein committed the cardinal sin of exiting the vehicle. At this point, the officer shoves her. For her own good, he explains- to keep her out of oncoming traffic.

Winkfein becomes increasingly upset. She takes the officer, Chris Bieze, to task for the shoving, at which time he threatens:

“If you don’t stand back, I’m gonna tase you.”

Presumably annoyed at being disturbed on her way to eat guys like this for lunch, Winkfein replies:

“Go ahead, taser me.”

The officer warns the woman again and again- five times- until finally using the taser on the belligerent septugenarian. Clearly in pain, Winkfein was not injured and was transported to jail for resisting arrest.

I don’t know about you, but I feel safer knowing this bingo-playing speed demon is off the streets.

The short clip is said to show Dan NeSmith — a 22-year-old new to the force — using a police-issued Taser on a 15-year-old boy, seemingly just for giggles. But wait, there’s more: The incident, investigators say, happened at a birthday party. A 19-year-old’s birthday party. With lots of underage drinking.

Detectives say half of the 50 people in attendance were under the legal drinking age. They believe the teen shown in the video had volunteered to be shocked, but it doesn’t appear that’ll help the fate of our rookie cop. NeSmith could face criminal charges if the parents choose to pursue them.
