Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II has chose not to retain Bruce Arians as the teams offensive coordinator, a move that was directly against the wishes of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Following his five year stint at the position Arians has also announced his retirement from the NFL.

Since taking over the position five years ago when Mike Tomlin took control of the Pittsburgh Steelers Arians has turned the “blue-collar” team into a pass heavy offensive and it’s believed that Art Rooney wanted to see the team get back to its run-heavy strategy.

The move to a pass heavy offense made sense from a Ben Roethlisberger perspective as the QB has a strong arm that has helped the team rank in the top half of the NFL in offense over the past three seasons, however they finished in 12th this past season in terms of offensive play-making.

In a statement regarding the release Tomlins wrote:

“Bruce Arians has informed me that he will retire from coaching. I appreciate his efforts over the past five years as the team’s offensive coordinator and for helping lead our offense to new heights during his time with the Steelers. I am grateful to Bruce for contributing to our success and wish him nothing but the best in his retirement.”

At this time it’s still unclear who will take over at the offensive coordinator position however Art Rooney has a history of promoting from within, in fact Arians joined the team in 2004 as the wide receivers coach and was promoted to his final position on the team.

A recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology claims that the cancer screening test Oncotype DX does not accurately identify a gene that is critical in determining which type of live-saving cancer treatment to administer.

According to lead researcher Dr. David J. Dabbs, a professor and chief of pathology at Magee-Womens Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center:

“Women could be getting the completely wrong treatment.”

Women who test positive for the gene are typically given Herceptin (trastuzumab) and other medications to prevent recurrence and possibly even death.

On the flip side of the argument  Dr. Lori J. Goldstein, director of the Breast Evaluation Center at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia told Yahoo News:

“…the Oncotype DX test, which actually measures 21 different genes, was not designed to test for HER2, nor is it intended as a substitute for two other widely used and accepted lab tests.

“None of us would request Oncotype for the sole purpose of getting HER2,” she said. “We’re usually ordering it for other reasons and, as part of that test, we get HER2.”

Tests for HER2 exist with both immunohistochemistry (IHC) and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Speaking to HealthDay, Genomic Health, the company behind Oncotype DX  disagreed with the findings, stating that the “conclusions appear to be one-sided.”

Whatever tests are given researchers seem to agree on one important factor, FDA approved tests should be used to screen for breast cancer.

George Sodini, 48, was lonely, miserable and angry and not planning on taking it for very much longer. (From his blog, penned by Sodini.)

You’d know that if you read his blog. You’d also know that he’d twice planned and “chickened out” on shooting rampages at his gym, LA Fitness in Bridgeville, PA. Like many lone shooter types, Sodini’s list of grievances was long and seemingly somewhat random. He writes at length about an acquaintance he both loathes and envies, speculating on the acquaintance’s daughter’s promiscuity.

Police say Sodini, 48, entered the gym around 8am and targeted a “women’s aerobics” class. He turned off the lights and began shooting the women in the dark. By the time Sodini was dead, so were at least 4 women, with several critically wounded women transported to area hospitals.

Sodini left a suicide note among other things on his blog (warning, TL;DR, racist, disturbing and sad) detailing his intentions and his motivations. Sadly for him and for everyone, like most parts of his life, no one was even listening.

I took off today, Monday, and tomorrow to practice my routine and make sure it is well polished. I need to work out every detail, there is only one shot. Also I need to be completely immersed into something before I can be successful. I haven’t had a drink since Friday at about 2:30. Total effort needed. Tomorrow is the big day.

Unfortunately I talked to my neighbor today, who is very positive and upbeat. I need to remain focused and absorbed COMPLETELY. Last time I tried this, in January, I chickened out. Lets see how this new approach works.

Maybe soon, I will see God and Jesus. At least that is what I was told. Eternal life does NOT depend on works. If it did, we will all be in hell. Christ paid for EVERY sin, so how can I or you be judged BY GOD for a sin when the penalty was ALREADY paid. People judge but that does not matter. I was reading the Bible and The Integrity of God beginning yesterday, because soon I will see them.

I will try not to add anymore entries because this computer clicking distracts me.

Also, any of the “Practice Papers” left on my coffee table I used or the notes in my gym bag can be published freely. I will not be embarased, because, well, I will be dead. Some people like to study that stuff. Maybe all this will shed insight on why some people just cannot make things happen in their life, which can potentially benefit others.

19 year old Ciara Sauro from Pittsburgh suffers from pancreatitis, needs an islet cell transplant and is hospitalized weekly. She lives with her single mother, who earns minimum wage.

The background narrative may not excuse them necessarily from the case, but here’s where it gets interesting. They couldn’t afford to defend the case, so a Federal Judge ruled her guilty in absentia and imposed an $8000 fine, which she can’t afford to pay either, due to hospital bills. The amount of songs allegedly shared: 10.

Sauro denies the claim: “Look and see where it (the downloads) came from, and look and see that it’s not me. It’s not fair to do to me.” Better still, the Internet account in the lawsuit was opened by her estranged father, who doesn’t live at the same address.

It’s really a sad state of affairs when the seriously ill can be hounded like this without any affordable legal recourse. The law is for the rich, so they say. The good news according to a local report, Pittsburgh Attorney James Brink has offered to represent the Sauros for free and will ask a judge to reopen the case.
