File sharing site MegaUpload has recently been in the sights of both the RIAA and MPAA for hosting copyrighted content. In an ironic (and immensely satisfying) twist, a new video surfaced today from artists whom the RIAA claim to represent that sings the praises of MegaUpload.

The video was commissioned by MegaUpload founder Kim Dotcom and features the likes of P. Diddy, Kanye West, Will.i.am, Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys, Jamie Foxx, Lil John, and more.

The video went viral very quickly, making it to Twitter’s trending topics within a short amount of time – and then Universal Music stepped in.

The original video, published on Kim Dotcom’s own YouTube account, was taken down due to a copyright claim by UMG, despite having absolutely no “stolen” content whatsoever.

“UMG did something illegal and unfair by reporting Mega’s content to be infringing. They had no right to do that. We reserve our rights to take legal action. But we’d like to give them the opportunity to apologize,” Dotcom told TorrentFreak.

After filing a copyright claim dispute the video was temporarily brought back, only to be taken down again.

“We filed a dispute, the video came back online and now it’s blocked again by UMG and the automated YouTube system has threatened to block our account for repeat infringement,” Kim explained.

Casey Rae-Hunter, Deputy Director at Future of Music Coalition, chimed in the incident, pointing out a blatant violation of the artists’ speech rights.

“The fact that this expression could be silenced by a major label — without any apparent infringement — should be seriously troubling to anyone who cares about artists’ speech rights,” says Casey Rae-Hunter, Deputy Director, Future of Music Coalition. “If this can happen to Snoop Dogg and others, it can happen to anyone.”

As I write this post, Khloe Kardashian is just a whisker away from reaching 5,000,000 followers on Twitter. Her older sis Kim is pushing 11 million. Which is probably why the reality TV siblings charge thousands of dollars for a simple tweet.

The relatively new trend of paid celebrity product endorsements on Twitter involves some eye-watering sums. Charlie Sheen will charge $9,500 per tweet, jailbird Lindsay Lohan requests $3,500, and $8,235 will buy you a mention from Khloe Kardashian, who recently bigged up Old Navy jeans:

Kim Kardashian is rumored to be the priciest option at $10,000; that’s $71 per character on a 140-character tweet. Easy money or what? As SponsoredTweets.com reveals, there are cheaper options:

Snooki – $7,800 [3,620,000 followers]
Audrina Partidge – $1,765 [1,718,000 followers]
Mike Tyson – $3,250.00 [1,179,628 followers]
Heidi Montag – $2,941.25 [1,235,000 followers]

And so forth. The likes of P Diddy and Nick Cannon are also available, though their prices are only available to enquiring advertisers. Question is, is it worth it?

Well, it could be. Associated Press reports that Internships.com received 95,000 clicks in an hour when Sheen tweeted about the site – though his tweets went live right at the time he was getting fired from Two and a Half Men. Timing, it would seem, is vital – if a sleb’s stock is high at that moment, it can pay big.

It’s not everyday that we get to report on a huge contribution by a celebrity, especially one that saves an entire organization but that’s exactly what happened this week when Sean “Diddy” Combs made a sizeable donation to save the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem.

The Harlem branch was set to be ousted due to cuts in state budgets and personal donations until Diddy stepped in and saved the local area branch of the nationwide organization.

Speaking to AllHipHop.com Willie C. Bentley, Jr., Board Member and Resource Development Chair of The Boys and Girls Club of Harlem said of Comb’s donation:

Mr. Combs’ contribution comes at a time when we were faced with the possibility of eliminating existing programs and/or club sites. 100% of Mr. Combs’ contribution will go directly to the young people, and provide educational, recreational and social enrichment programs allowing us to move forward as a club, uninterrupted.

If you’re unfamiliar with the organization the Boys & Girls Club provides children with a safe place to gather after school and during days off, ensuring that those children don’t roam the streets or get left home alone.

His music label might be called “Bad Boy Entertainment” but he’s pretty much the exact opposite of a “bad boy” these days.

Okay, chalk this up as the looniest of looney tune lawsuits of all time but according to the filing obtained by Radar Online Valerie Joyce Wilson Turks is claiming that P Diddy, along with his ex-girlfriend Kim Porter and Rodney King; famous for getting beat up by the LAPD, is responsible for the collapse of the World Trade Center.

It is because of this that P Diddy and the others first knocked down the WTC and then came and knocked her; and her children down – one of which is a result of her and P Diddy knocking boots together 24 years ago.

From RadarOnline we get some more of this stupidity:

She alleges that she has been subjected to abuse from 2001 – 2010 and that: “[Diddy] went through Kim Porter and Rodney King and knocked down the WTC and then they all came and knocked my children down. Set me up to be on disability and disabled my baby. he put my baby in a wheelchair.”

Valerie then goes on to say in her statement that is riddled with spelling and punctuation errors: “He date raped me 24 years ago and knocked me down him and Kim Porter and Wallace Wright, then Sean Combs and Kim and Wallace Wright came back 18 years later and raped and sexually abused my children and knocked my children down and crushed me and my children daily.

Ms. Turks is seeking $900 Billion in child support and the $100 Billion dollars for loss of income.

If you want a high end headset that combines style with sound, you’ve probably been looking to no available for quite some time now. I’m happy to say your wait is over thanks to the Beats By Dre line of Monster headsets.

Revealed at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas tonight, the new line of headsets looks to bring studio and club sounds to listeners, while as Interscope records CEO Jimmy Lovine said, bringing back the emotion of the music that has become distorted by digital audio.

The “Head Monster” Noel Lee started the night out by entering the suite where the event was held on his segway, introducing everyone to why the line was started and then bringing out Loving who quickly introduced Dr. Dre.

After a few quick words Dre then helped unveil two new over the ears headset. The first unit, the Solo HD, is a headset designed to bring users the sounds of the studio environment, in, as the name would suggest, full High Definition quality.  The headsets on display, a crisp red colored unit was sleek and stylish with a nice glossy paint job that should impress any audiophile.

The next reveal was a headset aimed at taking the sounds of the club to the user, without needed to crank the volume past 10. As Loving pointed out, kids these days listen to their music at increasing sound levels to bring out the emotions of the music which are often lost throughout the recording and dubbing process. The unit is a headset designed with DJ’s in mind and as the name suggests it allows users to swivel the headset away from the users ear, a popular function provided by DJ’s when spinning.

Looking at the bottom of the headsets users will also find two input jacks, the perfect option for choosing which side your cord hangs from, while also allowing for “daisy chaining” headsets to one another as the user sees fit.

Finally P. Diddy was invited to the front of the room where he unveiled his DittyBeats earbud headset which combines leather with cool colors for both genders, including a stark white offering he was sporting, a black option and a pink option for the ladies. The earbuds look well fashioned for comfort and their sleek well thought out finish should be a nice option for users looking at headsets that offer more fashion and higher quality than Shure and other top notch options.

Diddy said he got involved because Dr. Dre is one of his hero’s, while also telling stories about his childhood and music:

My mother played music for me as a child, and I grew up loving the way music made me feel. It brought out joy and pain. It was my first career, my first love,” he went on to say. “No matter how many roads I travel, my heart always takes me back there. Music is my life, and Diddy Beats is an expression of how great sound makes me feel.”

Finally the entire team announced their participation in the U2 led “Project Red” which will donate part of the proceeds earned from each red colored Solo HD

Overall I was extremely happy with the new Beats by Dre offerings and I can’t wait to see more from the team at Interscope and Monster, hopefully in the very near future.

Shyne, the rapper who was jailed for a high-profile NYC club shooting incident involving P. Diddy and Jennifer Lopez, is set to be released from an upstate New York correctional facility after serving over eight years.

Shyne, born Jamal Barrow and now known as Moses Michael Leviy, has been in prison since 2001. Over the years there has been speculation that Shyne took the fall for higher-profile stars, and Shyne does seem to harbor some animosity towards Diddy, who did not serve time in relation to the incident:

“How do you call a witness to testify against your comrade? That don’t make no sense. If I’m telling you that [the club bouncer] is lying, and you saying ‘Well hey, she’s helping me’ — I’m facing 25 years. You looking at probation,” Shyne explained in an interview with MTV.

“Those types of things are unacceptable. You don’t have to hold my hand, you don’t have to do nothing. But don’t try to hurt me. That’s intentional,” he added.

Diddy called into Hot97 recently and expressed excitement at Shyne’s impending release.

“It’s a blessing that he’s coming home…I spoke to him like a couple of weeks ago and he sounded like he was in good spirits. I know he can’t wait to get home. I know he is definitely going to heat the whole scene up. He was definitely one of [many] talented young artists that I had the pleasure to work with. I’m quite sure he’s been using his time wisely and has some heat.”

In what’s surely the greatest insult to my favorite. book. of. all. time., Diddy described himself as the New Gatsby (basically) in the horrific new guide “How To. . . Party Like P. Diddy” (read: lots of white, lots of pretension).

It makes me super-depressed to think that he puts so much thought behind it all:

“Wearing white is not only sexy; it means everyone is unified both visually and emotionally. It puts everyone on the same level. At my ‘Harlem To Hollywood’ party [...], the guests – including Victoria Beckham, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Jamie Foxx, Eva Longoria and actor Derek Luke [who plays Diddy in a forthcoming biopic of rap artist The Notorious B.I.G.] – played croquet on the lawn.

I liked the idea of croquet because it’s a very Gatsby-type activity and I take pride in being a Gatsby figure.”
