Had I known about this back on National High Five Day, I certainly would have slapped some skin in its honor.

National Chocolate Chip Day

Not much is known about National Chocolate Chip Day other than that it’s a celebration of all things chocolate chip. And, really, that’s probably more than enough information for revelers.

I can tell you that National Chocolate Chip Day evidently falls on May 15th of every year. And I can suggest an activity that might just be fit for the occasion:

Mars’ Real Chocolate Relief program is in full effect today. The so-called “Free Chocolate Friday” promotion means you can get a free full-sized candy bar just by signing up. It might not technically have chocolate chips…but hey, I say it’s close enough.

Rev up your rhyming spirits, dear friends: Today is Limerick Day, the latest in an endless string of odd holidays we just love to celebrate.

Limerick Day

Limerick Day is celebrated in honor of the birth of English writer Edward Lear, who is credited with making the limerick popular. A limerick, in case you aren’t aware, is a five-line poem in which the first, second, and fifth lines rhyme, and the third and fourth lines also rhyme.

Here’s one of the limericks credited to Lear:

There was an Old Man in a tree,
Who was horribly bored by a Bee;
When they said, ‘Does it buzz?’
He replied, ‘Yes, it does!’
‘It’s a regular brute of a Bee!’

Lear lived from 1812 until 1888. You can read all about his life here and check out much of his work here.

And, for the love of limericks, if you leave a comment — make it rhyme.

National Honesty Day

National Honesty Day evidently falls on April 30 of every year. According to the folks at Holiday Insights, the day is meant to “encourage us to be honest.” Seems logical enough.

There’s no special celebration technique, then, aside from being honest. So can you handle the truth?

National Honesty Day is believed to have ties with Mr. Honesty himself, George Washington.

National Honesty Day Resources

You can find some National Honesty Day resources, including classroom lessons, activities for teachers, worksheets, and even National Honesty Day crossword puzzles, here.

Keep your calendars open, too, because it won’t be long before other such gems as National High Five Day, National Napping Day, National PB&J Day, and National Squirrel Appreciation Day roll around once again.

Fear not, my friends, for today is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. Hey, we’ve observed National Pancake Day, National Napping Day, and National Squirrel Appreciation Day — so why not?

National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day: The History

No one’s quite sure where National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day began, though Welch’s claims the credit for a key ingredient within the PB&J sandwich itself (which, I might add, seems quite questionable). The jam-maker says it introduced concord grape jelly in 1923, two years before Skippy hit the market, and that planted the seed (so to speak) for the classic creation.

The actual sandwich supposedly first surfaced in the 40s during World War II, when PBJ became part of the military’s rations. (I guess no one had the thought to combine salty and sweet spreads prior to that point. Mmm hmm.)

National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day: The Celebration

While it’s not an official government holiday, we here at the Inquisitr intend to celebrate anyway. But how? According to the folks at eHow, the best way to honor National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day is — not surprisingly — to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Done and done. They have some tips for making the perfect version here, if you need any pointers.

Should you still be feeling the PBJ spirit, you might check out this site or this site for some National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day e-cards. Yep, they actually make those.

From us to you, happy National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day! Enjoy. Just make sure to wipe your hands before typing.
