It was a day we all feared was coming, especially after he stepped down from running Apple for a second time, and now the Apple Board of Directors has announced that Steve Jobs passed away, the tech mogul was pronounced dead at the young age of 56-year-old.

Statement by Apple’s Board of Directors

CUPERTINO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.

There is no denying that Jobs had a profound effect not just on technology but our world as a whole as he literally transformed our ideas of what computers, music, and phones were. His is a history of forever challenging preconceived notions whether it be animated films through his running of Pixar to what the world of personal computers should look and work.

It was his drive and vision that brought Apple, the company that he started, was fired from and then returned to, back from the brink of disaster and then lead it to be one of the biggest technology companies in the world.

On the official website the Steve Jobs page (Apple.com/SteveJobs) posted the following message:

Jobs dropped out of Reed College and created Apple in 1976 with the help of high school friend Steve Wozniak, the two men released the Apple I during that same year.

During the 1980′s Apple sales were lagging and in 1985 the Apple board pushed out Jobs. In 1996 the company’s co-founder was reinstated after Apple purchased his start-up NeXT for $400 million. Five years after being reinstated Steve Jobs released the iPod music player, followed by the iTunes music store, iPhone and iPad.

Under his leadership Steve Jobs helped not only turn around Apple Inc. he helped the company surpass Microsoft in earnings to become the number one tech company in the world.

While Apple nearly claimed bankruptcy during the period in which Jobs lost control of his company today the organization has a market valuation of $350 billion, closely approaching revenues earned by No. 2 Exxon Mobil.

Steve Jobs resigned as company CEO in August 2011, the second time in less than 3 years that he stepped down to deal with “personal issues.”

Steve Jobs, a Buddhist, is survived by wife Laurene Powell Jobs, 47 and four children. One of his children Lisa had an early Apple computer named after her.

He will be sorely missed. In rememberance of Steve Jobs here’s a nostalgic video of the Apple CEO introducing the first iMac:

Earlier today the news about the death of singer Amy Winehouse spread through the web like wildfire, helped along with a massive outpouring on Twitter.

While her death has been listed as unexplained it was announced that her autopsy will be taking place tomorrow but suspicion, due to her well documented addiction problems, is that she probably died from a drug overdose.

With her death though Winehouse joined a group of other musicians in a rather strange club called the 27 Club, or as it is also known as – the Forever 27 Club.

The entry requirement to this group is pretty simple – the musician needed to have died while they were 27 years old.

Apparently this is a club with some pretty illustrious members:

Brian Jones – Rolling Stones founder – drowned

Jimi Hendricks – asphyxiation from vomiting due to a combination of sleeping pills and wine

Janis Joplin – heroin overdose

Jim Morrison – The Doors – heart failure

Kurt Cobain – Nirvana – suicide

Those are just the more famous names in the group but so far there are apparently a total of 46 members, including Amy Winehouse.

The BBC news video about her death:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKdcgPkgLns

Her disastrous concert in Belgrade

This is a developing story but Twitter is going crazy at the moment with the news coming primarily out of Europe by the looks of it that singer Amy Winehouse has died.

The British singer was apparently found dead in her London flat at around 4 pm and at this point her death is being listed as unexplained.

This news follows on the heels of her disastrous European tour where she appeared to be drunk on stage and was booed off by her once loyal fans.

Here’s a clip of Amy at her best 4 years ago on Letterman.

While we all knew that Gary Coleman, the former child star of Diff’rent Strokes, was in the hospital and things weren’t looking good for him the word just out via CNN is that he has passed away.

It would seem that the two operations doctors had done on his brain following a fall in his home did not succeed as Coleman’s listed cause of death is that of a brain hemorrhage.

Former child star Gary Coleman, who rose to fame as the wisecracking youngster Arnold Jackson on the TV sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes” but grew up to grapple with a troubled adulthood, has died. He was 42.

Coleman died of a brain hemorrhage at a Provo, Utah, hospital, Friday afternoon, according to a hospital spokeswoman. The actor fell ill at his Santaquin, Utah, home Wednesday evening and was rushed by ambulance to a hospital, Coleman’s spokesman had said in a statement earlier Friday.

He was then taken to another hospital — Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo — later Wednesday night.

Steve Jobs was dead for a short time this week — at least, if you were to believe everything you read on Bloomberg.

The network’s financial wire mistakenly published an obit of Jobs Wednesday, seemingly as it was trying to update the copy for future use. The story, of course, was pulled back moments later — but not before Gawker was able to grab a copy and give it a permanent home.

The 17-page file is a verbose account of Jobs’ life and career, though with nothing you haven’t heard before. The funniest part is Bloomberg’s retraction notice…which makes no mention of the fact that it potentially made thousands of people think a well-known man had died.

“Aug. 27 (Bloomberg) – An incomplete story referencing Apple Inc. was inadvertently published by Bloomberg News at 4:27 p.m. New York time today. The item was never meant for publication and has been retracted.”

This comes, of course, just days after the L.A. Times made a “whoops, wrong button” gaffe of its own, publishing a story saying Obama had picked Clinton as his running mate. The paper also published drafts created in case he picked any of the other likely VP candidates.

We here at The Inquisitr pre-write only our own obituaries to encourage extra care and responsibility in not mistakenly publishing them. Mine, incidentally, rocks.
