Nude Recreation Week is this week, July 9-15! With the recent heat wave of record-breaking high temperatures being felt across much of the country starting off this summer it seems like the perfect time to get cooled off and celebrate the 37th annual celebration by stripping down.

The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) and The Naturist Society (TNS) celebrate the event every year since its creation by The Naturist Society 37 years ago notes the Huffington Post.

You don’t have to be a nudist or naturist to celebrate the annual event and all the fun that goes along with it. Carolyn Hawkins, AANR spokesperson in Kissimee, Fla. encourages anyone and everyone to get out and get naked:

“Nude Recreation Week is the perfect time for the public to try something new and fun, while at the same time, it gives nudists all across the U.S, and Canada, an excuse to tell their friends the real reason why they always looked so relaxed and refreshed when they get back from vacations.”

She also adds:

“If people would only try it once, I think they’ll see the joys of being naked outdoors. During Nude Recreation Week, most clubs open the doors for free and let people come in and see how much wholesome fun nude recreation can be.”

The Fawlty Towers Motel in Cocoa Beach, Fla., named after the legendary British sitcom, has seen a growing number of customers opt for larger chain hotels, so owner Paul Hodge began to consider new tactics to draw guests in. His answer? Nudism. Hodge told Florida Today:

“It’s sort of a make-or-break situation. We can’t pay ourselves in winter. We had to scrap health insurance. Every year it gets a little bit worse.”

Hodge didn’t take the decision lightly, and it wasn’t only his skeptical wife he had to convince: certain neighbors are not so enamored either. One local stick-in-the-mud bleated to WFTV:

“Young people surf on that beach. What kind of a message is that sending them? It’s inappropriate.”

As his guests will be baring all in the 32-room property, Hodge has already consulted a lawyer and the American Association of Nude Recreation. Neither discovered a state or local law that would prove an obstacle for Hodge’s plan.

The nudity will have to stay strictly indoors, however – the motel’s guests could face criminal charges of indecent exposure if they set their naked foot, or certain other undressed body parts, outdoors.

As for Paul Hodge and his wife, neither will be removing clothing themselves when the first guests arrive later this week, though the motel’s bartenders may be encouraged to go topless.
