It’s kind of interesting that this case isn’t being angled as a “MySpace murder,” considering some of the evidence that lead to conviction.

Rachel Wade, now 20, was sentenced today to 27 years in jail for the stabbing death of another young woman with whom she was competing for a young man’s affections. Wade was convicted in late July for the murder of 18-year-old Pinellas Park High senior Sarah Ludemann following an escalation of “bad blood” between the two teens over a shared boyfriend. 19-year-old Joshua Comacho had relationships with both girls, and fathered a baby with a third girl unrelated to the case.

Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Joseph A. Bulone cited lack of remorse on Wade’s part as well as the impact of Ludemann’s death when he opted not to sentence the defendant to time served. The jury took three hours to convict Wade on July 23rd, and among evidence presented were voicemails suggesting premeditation:

Rachel is heard saying, “Please tell me Sarah why you would be a dumb-a** c**t and put a brand new picture of you and Josh at the beach on your MySpace. Seriously, I told you to watch your f***ing back and not to f***ing chill with him. I’m guaranteeing you that I’m going to f***ing murder you, I’m letting you know that now.”

The jury fell silent after the messages were played in court, and Rachel began crying.

A Federal Jury in Los Angeles hearing the MySpace suicide case has found Lori Drew guilty of three minor offenses.

The MySpace Suicide made headlines last year after it was disclosed that a Missouri teenager Megan Meier hanged herself after being tricked into a fake relationship with a fictitious boy on MySpace. Lori Drew, the mother of a school rival of Megan Meier was posing as the boy.

The result wasn’t all good news: the jury could not reach a verdict on a conspiracy count, and U.S. District Court Judge George Wu declared a mistrial on the charge reports AP. It’s not clear at this stage whether a new trial will be held to rehear those charge. If later found guilty of conspiracy, Drew could face 20 years in jail.

Instead the jury found Lori Drew guilty of three counts of accessing a computer without authorization, with a maximum 3 year sentence possible and up to a $300,000 fine. Sentencing has not yet been decided.

Obviously its unfortunate they didn’t get all four to stick, but at least some justice has been had.
