Thaddeus Jiminez made $25 million in just 16 years. All he had to do was spend half of his life in prison.

Jimenez, 32, spent 16-years behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit. When he was exonerated and released in May 2009 he sued the city of Chicago. A federal jury has just awarded Jiminez $25 million.

The Huffington Post reports that Jiminez was convicted of murdering Erik Morro when he was just 13. Jiminez was sentenced to 45-years in prison  despite the fact that there was no physical evidence linking him to the crime.

Jiminez also accused police officers of ignoring evidence, including the confession of another man, that would have proved his innocence. On the day that Jiminez was released in 2009, Juan Carlos Torres, was charged with the murder Morro.

Jon Loevy, Jimenez’s attorney, said that the State Attorney’s Office “deserved a ton of credit for reopening the case … taking an honest look at it and correcting an injustice.”

Jiminez may have gotten off the hook for murder but he could soon find himself back in jail. Jiminez was convicted on drug charges last December and could serve up to three years in prison. When he gets out, however, he should have a nice big check waiting for him.

LOS ANGELES – Christian Gerhartsreiter, infamous con-man best known for playing a member of the prominent Rockefeller family in real life, is now facing murder charges over two decades old.

Some background on Gerhartsreiter – a German immigrant, he invented “Clark Rockefeller”, claiming a stake in the Rockefeller dynasty, and a potential inheritor to their vast wealth. A world-class impostor, he has duped people into believing he was a physicist, an art collector, a ship captain and a financial adviser who renegotiated debt for small countries. His wife, (herself wealthy) was completely unaware of his identity. Famous now, Gerhartstreiter got everything but a TV movie for his long career or lying. Oh wait, he got that too.

He’s entering court Wednesday to stare down murder charges. Specifically, his alleged role in the death of his former landlady’s son 26 years ago (while he was living in California as… well, someone else).

It’s a cold case, and those are tough to prove after so much time has gone by. The prosecution is building its case around three bags of human bones found during a pool excavation in San Marino back in 1994. After extensive testing, they were linked to John Sohus, 27, a computer engineer who disappeared in 1985. They have about 40 witnesses ready to take the stand, and most of them are forensic experts. Evidence has deteriorated, but forensic science has advanced enough to hopefully make up the difference. Right now, the prosecution is primarily going for probable cause, and thus far, motive is vague.

Sohus’ wife disappeared too, so the prosecution might try to paint it as a crime of passion, with Gerhartstreiter playing the jilted “other man”, despite the fact that her disappearance/possible death can’t be tied to the con man at this time.

One thing is for sure, on Wednesday, in court, Gerhartstreiter will be forced to play his most difficult role – himself.

Infamous Rockefeller Imposter Awaiting Murder Charges is a post from: The Inquisitr

A 15-year-old Ozark teenager was arrested on Sunday after he shot his sister and then drove to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office to report the cime.

Franklin Sheriff Anthony Boen told the Times-Record:

“He came in around 9:30 a.m. this morning saying he needed to speak with someone because he had killed his sister.”

After hearing from the boy police drove to his residence and found his 16-year-old sister dead in her bedroom.

According to Sheriff Boen it’s very likely that several gunshot wounds led to the girls death but he notes that his office won’t be sure until the body is investigated by the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock.

The boys parents had left the home around 8 a.m. to go grocery shopping and police believe the shooting happened between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.

The 15-year-old boy handed over the weapon to officers and they also confiscated his parents vehicle which was used to drive the teenager to the police station. Several other weapons were taken from the home because the boys father is an “avid hunter” according to police.

At this time police are not sure what prompted the boy to shoot his sister. The teenager did not provide any type of motive to police.

Police had never received any calls about the teenagers in the past and investigators still need to speak with teachers at their high school to determine if any underlying problems led to the violent and deadly attack.

The investigations is still ongoing at this time.

Teen Shoots 16-Year-Old Sister To Death is a post from: The Inquisitr

A three-panel group of judges sentenced Joran Van der Sloot to 28 years in prison for the murder of Stephany Flores after Van der Sloot pled guilty to the 21-year-old Peruvian woman’s murder.

The panel also fined Van der Sloot $75,000 in Lima for the murder which occurred five years to the day after American teen Natalee Holloway went missing in Aruba.

Under the Peruvian penal code the murderer could be eligible for parole after 14 years if he serves his time with good behavior and participates in work and study programs.

Van der Sloot was said to be sweating profusely when he entered the courtroom in a green T-shirt as he constantly wiped tears from his eyes before saying he was “truly sorry” for the killing of Stephany Flores. He then said he had ”wanted from the first moment to confess sincerely” to the killing.

In one of the most despicable moments of the case his lawyer then claimed he had only killed Flores as a result of an ”extreme psychological trauma” felt after the fallout from the Holloway disappearance case for which he is still the prime suspect.

In the meantime the Holloway family is still attempting to have Van der Sloot extradited to the United States where he would face charges in Natalee Holloway’s disappearance. Van der Sloot has already been indicted on extortion charges after he offered to lead the family to the girls body in exchange for a cash payout.

After the verdict Ricardo Flores, father to the murder victim complained to the court that Van der Sloot has been receiving special accommodations in prison.

“A jail isn’t a 5-star hotel,” Ricardo told reporters. “Let’s hope the authorities take that into account and not just in our case.”

“Since the first day we’ve been complaining about the excessive privileges”

Flores said he would provide proof of the prisoners favorable living conditions on Monday. While unconfirmed it has long been thought that Van der Sloot has his own television and gaming console in his cell.

While it might seem encouraging to learn that the Centers for Disease Controls and Prevention (CDC) no longer consider murder to be in the top 15 causes of death in the United States, that could quite possibly mean that more people are dying from diseases.

During the CDC annual report the organization announced that for the first time since 1965 murder is not listed in the top 15 causes of death in the United States [2011 statistics].

While that announcement is promising must of the report would have your average hypochondriac gasping for air and asking for a pill. According to the CDC more people are now dying of pneumonitis, a respiratory illness that mainly plagues older people.

Still topping the list are heart disease and cancer while the next top five on the list saw declines including stroke, chronic lower respiratory diseases, accidents, flu/pneumonia, and blood infections. Also increasing and this time at alarming rates were the number of people dying from Alzheimer’s disease, kidney disease, chronic liver disease, cirrhosis and Parkinson’s disease.

For parents worried about their children the report did find that the infant mortality rate has fallen to a record low of 6.14 deaths per 1,000 births.

The CDC report has also found that the life expectancy of a child born in 2011 also rose sharply to 78 years and 8 months, nearly one month longer then the life expectancy reported in 2009 births.

CDC Report: Murder Isn’t Even A Top 15 Cause Of Death Anymore is a post from: The Inquisitr

On January 2nd I reported about an unidentified body found on the grounds of the Sandringham House royal estate by a dog walker and now authorities using DNA technology have identified the victim.

According to police the body belongs to 17-year-old Alisa Dmitrijeva who was reported missing in August.

At this time police in the area are offering a  £5000 (Approx. $7500) reward for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) possibly responsible for the teens death.

While police have not revealed the exact cause of the death they have called it a murder case, noting that they are “investigating the murder.”

Alisa’s family had immigrated from Latvia and according to officials the body has been sitting at the time for some time between one and four months.

According to the areas police chief:

“We would like to identify people who may have worked in that area or were involved in organizing or running any specific events that may have taken place.”

The body was discovered while Queen Elizabeth II was celebrating Christmas as the Sandringham House, a traditional gathering spot for the royal family over the holiday’s. The Sandringham House has also been the private home for four generations of monarchs all the way back to 1862.

The estate is surrounded partly by a 600-acre country park that is open to the public.

Police have revealed very few other details at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Body Found On Grounds Of Queen’s Royal Estate Identified is a post from: The Inquisitr

Natzke’s former boss, Hot Springs Village Police Chief Laroy Cornett told “Our missing person’s case has evolved into a homicide,”.

Natzke was last seen leaving a Christmas party on December 21st and reported missing when she failed to show up to work on December 23rd.  She left the party with her boyfriend Kevin Duck, who said he and Natzke had gone to bed that evening at her home and when he woke up she was gone. The gated community that Natzke lived in was not equipped with surveillance cameras.

Natzke was found 5 miles into the wilderness from where her burned out car had been found right after her disappearance.

Police visited Natzke’s older sister and mother on Tuesday to tell them that a body had been found in the wilderness and they were waiting for confirmation that the body was their loved one.

“It was a formality anyway,” Vicki Hegyi, Natzke’s sister said. “We knew it was Dawna.”

Dozens of Facebook pages have been started in order to find the killer.  Hundreds of people have already joined them and everyone is just hoping they will bring the perpetrators to justice.

“There is at least one person who knows what happened and many more who, without realizing it, have the information needed to `crack this case” one of the pages said.

Natzke is survived by her three children, her sister and mother.

Dawna Natzke Found: Missing Persons Case Now a Murder Investigation is a post from: The Inquisitr

A manhunt is currently underway inside Washington’s Mount Rainier National Park where a man shot and killed a park ranger and then fled into the woods.

No video surveillance has circulated at this time and no description was given for the gunman.

Mount Rainier National Park spokeswoman Lee Taylor told CNN:

“It began as just a normal traffic stop” around 10:30 a.m. PT (1:30 p.m. ET), Taylor explained to CNN. But the suspect didn’t heed a request to pull over, prompting a ranger to radio ahead requesting assistance.

Park ranger Margaret Anderson, 34, responded to that call and set up her patrol vehicle as a roadblock.

“When he arrived at that spot, he got out (of his car) and fatally shot her.”

Mount Rainier is an active volcano that surrounded 14,410 acres while the larger Cascade Range comprises 235,625 acres.

In the meantime entrances throughout the park were closed on Sunday and 85 visitors to the park were being held at the main visitor center until authorities believed it was safe for them to drive out of the park unabated.

Margaret Anderson, 34, was the mother of a 4-year-old and 1-year-old, she is also survived by her husband, a fellow park ranger.

Taylor ended with a few words about the Park Ranger:

“It’s a horrible tragedy (and) a terrible loss of life of someone who had dedicated herself to serving the public.”

Our condolences go out to the entire Anderson family, their friends and her fellow park rangers.

Manhunt At Mount Rainier After Park Ranger Shot And Killed is a post from: The Inquisitr

A family of Canadian tourists saw more on their St. Petersburg, Florida vacation then they bargained for when a human leg washed ashore near the waterfront neighborhood they were visiting.

While the story could have ended there it turns out that the leg was cleanly cut at the thigh and foot, leading city detectives to determine the cause of death.

St. Petersburg police Maj. Mike Kovacsev tells the Tampa Bay Times:

“We don’t know the cause and manner of death, but obviously someone went to great lengths to dismember this body.”

Kovacsev goes on to note:

“The most important thing is identifying the person … You can’t even surmise what happened to them until we identify the victim and look into their life.”

The leg likely washed up between 6 p.m. and 7:40 a.m. which would be between the times in which the family left the beach at their rented beachfront home.

All Florida police know at this time is that the leg belongs to a “heavyset” white person and is believed to be a right limb. The leg was also cleanly shaven which makes police believe it belongs to a female.

Unfortunately the leg also lacks any type of distinct marks (tattoos, birth marks) or scars that could help aid in their investigation.

Police also suggest that the condition of the leg upon retrieval places the limb in water for two days.

Investigators will next check a list of missing persons and then work from that point to determine the origin of the human limb, likely using DNA if a match is not immediately determined. Even with DNA the person’s profile would already need to be in a law enforcement database to return a match.

The discovery of the limb comes just days after police discovered a female body floating 4 miles away in Lake Maggiore on Christmas Day. Police at this time say the two have not been connected.

Tourist Finds Cleanly Cut Human Leg On Florida Beach is a post from: The Inquisitr

El Salvador is an increasingly dangerous place to live post-civil war. So dangerous in fact that murders have increased by 9.3 percent from 2009 through 2011.

According to a recent study 4,308 people out of 6.1 million were killed in the country in 2011, up from 4,223 murders in 2009.

The record number of murders in 2011 comes as the country continues to struggle with post-civil war life. In fact El Salvador currently has one of the highest murder rates in the world because of a brutal gang culture that claims the lives of 12 people each day while many more are killed and injured during armed robbery attempts.

According to state records there is believed to be 18,000 gang members in the country, members who extort money from traders and transport companies while other organized crime groups traffic drugs, weapons and even people.

The countries officials in the meantime are attempting to lessen gang violence, having already dismantled 297 different gangs including 124 that belongs to the Mara Salvatrucha cartel. They have also sent 4,000-strong troops into the streets as added reinforcement for police who were struggling with gang violence, corruption and other issues.

The countries civil war ended in 1992 after a 12-year battle rang out throughout the country, during that time 75,000 people were killed and 7,000 more went missing with no sign of return.

The countries problems worsen when you consider that many more El Salvadorian gang members who learn tactics on the streets of U.S. cities are deported once caught performing illegal crimes, sending them home with new gang related lessons and a thirst for more than riches a typical El Salvadorian life can provide.

The search for 9 year old Aliahna Lemmon has officially ended with her trusted neighbor and babysitter, Michael Plumadore, beat her to death with a brick.  He then used a hacksaw to dismember her, keeping the 9 year old’s head feet and hands in his trailer freezer and dumping what was left at a nearby business, according to Allen County Sheriff’s Investigators

Plumadore admitted to police that after beating her to death with a brick he stuffed her body into a trash bag and put it in the freezer in his trailer.  Later on that evening he took the body out and chopped it up with a hacksaw and stuffed the pieces into freezer bags.

Plumadore is not saying why he killed Aliahna Lemmon

A State judge has ordered Plumadore held without bail or bond.  As of this writing he had not been formally charged with murder yet.

Aliahna’s mother had left her and two of her sisters with Plumadore because she was sick at home in bed with the flu.

Plumadore told The Journal Gazette on Sunday that Aliahna had gone missing from his home Friday morning.  He claimed he had been sleeping after going to a convenience store to buy a cigar, which was corroborated by the store’s video camera.

He reported Aliahna missing on Friday night.  Aliahna’s sisters supposedly told him the girl had gone home with her mother that morning.

Saturday more than 100 volunteers, law enforcement and FBI agents fanned out around the neighborhood trying to find Aliahna, a $10,000 reward was posted for information leading to her whereabouts.

Sheriff Ken Fries said detectives questioned Plumadore over the weekend and that he was arrested Monday.

“The story just didn’t make sense to our investigators or to me when I first heard it,” Fries said Monday night. “I thought this is the guy we needed to focus on. If we are going to find her, he’s going to be the one who has the answers for us.”

Aliahna Lemmon Found, Babysitter Chopped Her Up With a Hacksaw is a post from: The Inquisitr

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK- Impassive, seen-it-all New York City types were stunned this weekend when news broke that a woman had been burned to death- seemingly by a stranger- in the elevator of her apartment building in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.

The incident was the second elevator-related death within the five boroughs in the past week- just a few days prior, another Brooklyn woman was killed when an elevator malfunctioned in a Manhattan high-rise, crushing her and traumatizing two other riders in the lift. Both deaths were horrific in nature, but the murder of Deloris Gillespie shocked New Yorkers, who wondered if the killing was random and if an arson-crazed killer was on the loose in Brooklyn.

It turns out that the 73-year-old woman and the 47-year-old man believed to be attacking her in the surveillance video (widely distributed after the incident) were acquainted, and suspect Jerome Issacs soon visited a police station to confess his involvement. After the incident, neighbors came forward to say Issacs had been harassing Gillespie over what he believed to be a $2,000 debt accrued while the two lived together, and that Issacs appeared to be assisting Gillespie before the working relationship soured over theft accusations from Gillespie. Building residents noted that Gillespie often covered her door with duct tape when leaving the building, which they believed to be due to Issac’s alleged harassment.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne says Issac admitted to setting fires, but may not have confessed to the murder:

“He indicated that he was responsible for setting a fire- he didn’t say anything about a homicide… Since then, he has made statements implicating himself in the attack.”

Issac has been charged with murder and arson.

Suspect Who Burned Woman in Elevator Blames $2K Debt For Violent Murder is a post from: The Inquisitr

Surveillance cameras caught the images of a black man walking into the building, and waiting for Gillespie to get to the floor of her apartment on the elevator.  He then walked up to the elevator, where Gillespie was standing with her groceries, doused her with a flammable liquid and threw a Molotov Cocktail at her.  The elevator filled with smoke as Gillespie burned to death.

Police refused to speak about the motive for the crime, but are confident that the suspect new Gillespie.  Neighbors had reported a fire in the building but had no idea the woman was burning to death in the elevator.

The suspect seemed, in the video, to be very methodical…making sure Gillespie was thoroughly doused before lighting the Molotov Cocktail with a Barbeque Lighter. He only hesitated for a second before throwing it  at Gillespie.

David Sidener of Evansville, Indiana was found guilty of murdering Randall Hilderbrand in March by a Jury of his peers, Today he went to court to find out his fate.

During his sentencing hearing at the Cook County courthouse, Sidener told the victim’s brother that he was innocent, then called Cook County Judge Charles P. Burns “a lying son of a bitch.” according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

“I know you came here seeking justice, but you’re not going to get that today ” Sidener said to Randall Hilderbrand’s brother, Robert. “The man who killed your brother is out there with you.“I don’t care what this clown gives me,” he continued, turning to the judge.

He then proceeded to point at the judge, make fun of the way he talks and swear at him some more.

Burn responded by sentencing him to 60 years, a gift considering he could have gotten life.

Prosecutors said Sidener went to a bar with Hilderbrand and then went to Lucca’s Restaurant where Hilderbrand worked as a manager. Sidener lured Hilderbrand into the basement of the restaurant where he  beat and robbed him then tied him to a pole with duct tape and some power cords, and left him there to suffocate.

Prosecutors were asking for a really harsh sentence and felt satisfied with the sixty year verdict.

Eve Carson, a beautiful and popular University of North Carolina (UNC) student, who was murdered three years ago begged for her life before her killers shot her and asked them to pray with her, according to one of the murderers who testified at the trial of the other.

Eve was president of the student body at UNC in Chapel Hill, North Carolina when she died from multiple gunshot wounds in 2008, after two men had kidnapped her in an attempt to rob her. Prosecutors charge that Laurence Alvin Lovette Jr. and Demario James Atwater kidnapped Eve from her home, took her in her car so she could get them cash from the ATM then took her to a place where they shot her five times.

Atwater is serving two life sentences after pleading guilty to the crime more than two years ago.  He was testifying at the trial of Lovette, who faces life in prison if convicted of first-degree murder.

Fox News reported, Jason McNeil, one of Lovette’s friends testified also that Lovette had called him when they issued the arrest warrant and told him “Before (Lovette) even shot her, he explained, she was saying, ‘Let’s pray,’”  “She wanted them to pray together.”. McNeil is testifying at the trial as part of a plea bargain on narcotics charges.

Lovette told McNeil they killed her because she had seen their faces.

Murder suspect Drew Peterson is in the news once again, and this time he is claiming that Illinois State Police and Prosecutors owe him an apology for referring to his fourth wife Stacy as being “missing and presumed dead”

Peterson’s demand that police apologize was issued in a press release sent out on Tuesday. The release references a case which is completely where Judith Bello, of Washington State, had been presumed dead. She had been missing for the past 18 years, but was found alive and living in California.

The press release went further and stated that Drew Peterson “has always believed that Stacy is still very much alive” and that, because her mother disappeared once when Stacy was young, Joel A. Brodsky, Peterson’s lead attorney, stated that “in Stacy’s mind disappearing may be ‘normal.’”[The state police] made it seem like no woman, no mother, would ever just disappear, but as this most recent case shows, it does happen. In fact it happens more often than you would think,”

Drew Peterson is in jail in lieu of  $20 million bail, charged with the murder of Kathleen Savio, his third wife.  Savio was found dead in a dry bathtub in 2004, was originally pronounced dead in an accidental drowning, but later had her status changed to homicide after her body was exhumed.  Peterson is also a  suspect in the disappearance of Stacy who was last seen in October, 2007. At the time of her disappearance her friends and family told investigators she feared for her life.

A Woman in Washington State saw a suspicious posting from one of her Facebook Friends and decided to call the police in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Police arriving on the scene found exactly what the woman from Washington had seen on Facebook…three dead bodies.

Police responded to a call that a Fort Wayne man had posted on Facebook a status that said “”someone call 911. three dead bodies at 3229 lima road fort wayne indiana [SIC],” Heller’s profile said, according to TV station WANE. “I’ve killed ryann, erin, and myself. people were warned not to f***ing play me and ruin me. they didn’t listen. sorry about your luck.”. She thought it was possible that her freind was joking but she called police just to be on the safe side.

Police arrived to find Ryann Tipton and Erin Jehl, both 19 years old and from Fort Wayne dead of multiple gun shot wounds.  In  addition, the killer was dead of an apparent suicide.  Police are still investigating the details and have no further information on the case.

Cops Alerted By Facebook Status Make Horrible Find is a post from: The Inquisitr

Two German hikers who went missing three weeks ago while hiking through the Hindu Kush Mountains were found shot to death according to the regions police general.

After the hikers were missing for several weeks rescuers headed out from the paths main road and walked for four-hours to find the two missing men.

According to the official police report both men were found with bullet wounds in their chest, although the time of death is not yet known. The local coroners office will have to wait until tomorrow to examine the bodies which could not be moved under the cover of darkness.

The men were found wrapped inside cloth sacks and were hidden under a large boulder approximately 2.5 miles from the south end of the Salang Pass.

The men began their hike from the Salang Pass on August 19 and according to officials the area is not controlled by Taliban members, in fact the only people known to inhabit the area are a group of nomadic shepherds who live in tents and generally cause little trouble.

More information will follow the official autopsy.

Missing German Hikers Found Shot To Death In Hindu Kush Mountains is a post from: The Inquisitr

Eight people are dead after a family argument just outside of Akron, Ohio led to a senseless shooting spree that took the life of an 11-year-old and seven adults, while two other victims were left wounded.

The shooting occurred in a wooded, residential neighborhood where Copley Township police shot the gunman to death.

A 75-year-old neighbor witnessed the shooting and quickly took cover behind a truck, according to Gilbert Elie he was getting ready for church on Sunday morning when he heard gunshots and cries for help, he says after hearing the shots he headed across the street where he saw the body of one female laying in the driveway, a female and a young girl shot inside a car and one man shot near the garage.

Gilbert says that as he was standing outside the home when another woman came outside of the next door house and tried to talk to him until her boyfriend followed her outside and shot her.

After running for safety Elie told police that he didn’t see what happened next since he was hiding behind a truck for protection.

An investigation is in progress as police try to figure out what the family squabble entailed and why their shooter killed everyone inside and outside of the home including a seemingly innocent little girl.

No statements have been released at this time from the two wounded individuals who witnessed the horrific scene.

Hikers walking near Abalone Cove Shoreline Park in Rancho Palos Verdes on Friday night discovered the body of a man who had been shot to death.

According to Lt. Dave Dolson of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau:

“Shortly before 10 p.m. last night some hikers in the area discovered the body and called Lomita Sheriff’s deputies to the scene.” while he added, “It appears a murder has taken place here.”

The 22-year-old victim had multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso.

According to NBC Los Angeles, police say the shooting occurred very close to the ocean:

“It looks like there’s some shrub brush, and maybe a hiking trial, and the ocean and water are about 100 yards away,” said Lt. Dolson.
