Microsoft has officially responded to the latest batch of Xbox 720 rumors.

Earlier this week rumors started making the rounds that the next Xbox console would prevent folks from playing used video games. According to Cinema Blend, the machine will also require gamers to have a dedicated internet connection that is “always on.”

Those looking to Microsoft for confirmation or denial may have to wait a while longer. Although rumors about the machine are being passed around on various video game-related websites, the company isn’t quite ready to address the situation.

Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to Arabic Gamers:

“Microsoft does not comment on rumours or speculation. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform, but we don’t have anything further to share at this time.”

In other words, the company isn’t ready to say anything about its upcoming console. For better or for worse, Microsoft is letting the current reports continue to make the rounds.

All of this information arrived courtesy of a recent report by Edge. The website also dropped some information regarding the hardware that’s supposed to be under the console’s hood:

“Our source has also confirmed that the next Xbox’s recently rumoured specs are entirely accurate. That means an AMD eight-core x64 1.6GHz CPU, a D3D11.x 800MHz graphics solution and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. As of now, the console’s hard drive capacity is said to be undecided, but Microsoft’s extended commitment to online delivery suggests that it will be the largest unit it has put inside a console to date.”

Although Microsoft isn’t quite ready to reveal its hand just yet, Sony will be ready and willing to discuss the Playstation 4 during an event in New York City on February 20.

An internal document showing the future of the “Xbox 720″ gaming system was accidentally leaked online Sunday afternoon before Microsoft officials pulled the document from circulation. Microsoft lawyers from Covington & Burling LLP had the document removed after officials found the leak on Scribd. The take down request names the law firm and not Microsoft however Covington  & Burling LLP have been advising Microsoft since the tech company purchased Skype in 2011.

Containing 56-pages and dated from August 2010 the document talks about various pieces of technology including augmented glasses, Xbox TV apps and SmartGlass.

Based on the documentation the “Xbox 720″ will be constructed as an all-in-one media box that can play Blue-ray video with true 1080p output while remaining in an “always-on” state to receive constant updates. The internal document also points to faster processing.

The document also talks about ”Fortaleza” Kinect Glasses, which appear to be in line with the “Project Glass” technology being created by Google. Unlike Google’s all-in-one approach to worldly interactions the Fortaleza platform appears to be meant for gaming purposes with Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity possibly being made available for travel use.

Among the Xbox 720′s hardware leak is a 2GHz x86 or ARM core system with 4GB DDR4 memory which would place the 720 at the low-end of rumors we have already heard. In the past 3.2GHz PPC cores have been mentioned. The system is also expected to offer backward compatibility with a 10-year lifespan and a cost of $300.
