Duncan was 54 when he died September 3, having never fully recovered from a heart attack suffered in July.

According to People Magazine, fellow actors and Hollywood stars such as Ving Rhames, Vivica Fox, Jay Leno and Tom Hanks attended the funeral to pay tribute to Duncan, who was described by many as a “gentle giant.”

“Just to see such a pure heart and pure kindness, and to see it taken so early,” Leno said, his voice cracking. “There are no sadder words than what might have been.”

Hanks, who co-starred with Michael in The Green Mile, lightened the mood during the occasion by sharing a story Duncan told him about his attempts to join as a gang as a youth.

Assuming the deep, distinctive voice of the 6-foot-5-inch, 300-pound Duncan, Hanks acted as if he were explaining to his fellow gang members that his mom wouldn’t let him be in a gang.

Apparently, Duncan’s mother wasn’t thrilled about the idea at the time, as she let her son know by whacking him in the head with a frying pan she was using to cook pork chops.

“If it wasn’t for that mama and the frying pan with a pork chop, we would not be here today celebrating the life of Michael Clarke Duncan,” Hanks said.

Former reality TV star Omarosa Manigault, who was Duncan’s fiancee, also attended the funeral and shared a light-hearted story of the pick-up line Duncan used when meeting her at a grocery store.

” ‘Aren’t you that mean girl from The Apprentice?’ ” she said. “And then he worked every single day of our relationship to change that perception of me. The man you knew as an actor was my best friend.”

According to HuffPo, Rev. Dr. H. Beecher Hicks delivered the eulogy at the funeral, closing by saying to Manigault: “Don’t fret, he’s in heaven.”

While thespians and fans of Michael Clarke Duncan mourn the death of what some call “Hollywood’s gentle giant,” TMZ is further investigating the cause of Duncan’s death. It has been reported that the immediate cause of Michael Clarke Duncan’s death was due to lack of oxygen he received before his hospitalization on July 13.

On July 13, Michael Clarke Duncan suffered a massive heart attack, but was saved by fiance and “Apprentice” star Omarosa, who was able to restart his heart with CPR as she waited for an ambulance to arrive. However the five minutes without oxygen proved to be a significant loss of oxygen for Michael Clarke Duncan. It is said the loss was so large that it aided to his slow health decline once he was hospitalized.

Sources say his decline was “slow but steady” adding, “first it was a kidney problem, then the pancreas, then extremely high blood pressure, and so on, until his body just shut down.” It’s been reported that Omarosa spent most of her time with Duncan on Monday, but left shortly and when she returned he had passed away.  Since the announcement of his death, fellow actors and fans have been in mourning, but no one more than his fiance who he planned to wed and start a family with in the near future.

At the time of his death Omarosa was allegedly told things were looking up in terms of Duncan’s health. Surely she took that as assurance that he would get better and they could start their life together. It is said that Omarosa is now in Forest Lawn making arrangements for Duncan’s funeral, and it was reported that she’s understandably “completely inconsolable.”

Reality show star Omarosa, who was out of town at the time boyfriend Michael Clarke Duncan passed away yesterday morning, had plans with the Green Mile star to wed in a few months, it has been reported.

Michael Clarke Duncan suffered a myocardial infarction July 13, and girlfriend Omarosa’s presence when the late-night attack hit literally saved his life. For the six intervening weeks, however, Omarosa was forced to spend her time with Duncan in the hospital as he remained there being treated in the wake of the serious medical incident.

And as you probably know, Duncan died suddenly yesterday morning — and even more sadly, Omarosa was out of town when the actor passed. TMZ snapped Omarosa arriving at the airport in tears last night, and one of the paps filming the Apprentice star as she enters a waiting SUV says:

“Omarosa, our condolences … we’re really sorry for your loss … Michael was a great guy.”

The showbiz spies also report that Omarosa and Michael Clarke Duncan were planning a January wedding, and the site says:

“Michael Clarke Duncan and Omarosa Manigault were secretly engaged and the wedding was set for this January, TMZ has learned … Sources connected with the couple tell us, Michael and Omarosa kept the engagement a secret from the media … only telling very close friends and family about the pending nuptials … We’re told the couple had just started planning for the wedding when Michael went into full cardiac arrest July 13 and was hospitalized until his death.”

Omarosa has not made an official statement to media following Michael Clarke Duncan’s sudden death.
