Miami, FL – A South Florida plastic surgeon was accused on Wednesday of aggravated battery on his girlfriend which included continuous waterboarding after an argument last month over … a Facebook post.

Police say that 41-year-old Orlando Llorente attacked girlfriend Leeanne Sauma for several hours, shoving her head into a toilet and stuffing her mouth with a rag. Llorente also allegedly waterboarded her continually until she lost consciousness.

The attack lasted roughly 16 hours in total, and Llorente has been charged with one count of attempted murder and kidnapping.

“He became enraged, grabbed her by the hair, took her into the bathroom, and not only stuck her head inside the toilet, but then put her in the tub and was able to get a rag and stuff it down her mouth,” said Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes.

Llorente also threatened to kill Sauma, punched her in the face several times, slammed her head on the bathroom floor, and shoved a wet rag in her mouth, covering her nose, so as to suffocate her.

The attack was apparently over a Facebook post, but police would not go into detail as to what the post entailed. The only “Leeanne Sauma” on Facebook in Miami, Florida has a restricted profile, but a few pictures of a muscular man wearing a loin cloth are visible on her timeline from just before the April 21 attack. Whether it is her profile or whether those images have anything to do with the attack is purely speculative.

Llorente’s attorney Marcos Beaton issued a statement to CBS4, saying:

“Dr. Llorente voluntarily surrendered to authorities … and is resolute on clearing his name. He reached out to law enforcement, through his lawyers, when these false allegations surfaced. We are disappointed that our requests for more time in which to present a thorough and thoughtful examination into the source of the allegations and the facts surrounding them was declined.”

Sauma only suffered minor injuries despite the marathon attack, and apparently promised Llorente that she wouldn’t tell anyone what happened in return for her freedom, said police.

Marquette dominated the Miami Hurricanes and a team that had to use last second drama to win both of their first two games is headed to the Elite Eight. While the Golden Eagles weren’t a huge underdog, the game was yet another example of a lower seed knocking off a supposed powerhouse higher seed.

The Golden Eagles managed to get this particular victory by playing some great defense. In the first half, the Big East school was able to hold Miami to just 16 points. While the Hurricanes did manage to ramp up their offense in the second half, they couldn’t stop the Eagles from scoring more as well.

Vander Blue, who been the leader of the team through most of the tournament actually didn’t lead the team in scoring yet again. While Blue didn’t score the 29 points he did against Butler, his 14 points were more than enough to help sink the Hurricanes.

Blue was joined by Davante Gardner who also had 14 points. Gardner was having a rather quiet tournament until tonight’s game. Jamil Wilson was the leading scorer with 16 points thanks to hitting three of four three-point shots.

Marquette has been knocked out of the tournament in the Sweet Sixteen the last two times they’ve made the Big Dance. They’ve been dispatched in this round in four of the last five visits.

Miami was looking to make the Elite Eight for the first time in 13 years. The last time they got past the Sweet Sixteen was in 2000. The loss ends what has been a dream season for the Hurricanes who dominated the ACC with a 15-3 conference record.

That earned them a number two seed in the tourney and got them being picked as a darkhorse to make at least the Final Four by most experts.

Marquette will next take on the winner of the contest between Syracuse and Indiana on Saturday.

The new Miami Dolphins logo didn’t stay secret for very long.

Not long after the NFL franchise announced that it would be tweaking its logo of a jumping dolphin, pictures appeared online of what appeared to be a new, sleeker design. Though the team and the league were initially quiet, Dolphins CEO Mike Dee confirmed on Wednesday that they images seen online were indeed the new Dolphins logo.

The new logo is a more intimidating looking dolphin, but still maintains the team’s tradition of the marine mammal flying through. The new uniforms will reportedly be work with white facemasks.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald said the team is ready for some blowback, as there will inevitably be people who dislike the new logo or disagree with the decision to change. But the team is also expecting fans to embrace the new dolphin and buy new jerseys and team apparel.

And it will give the team plenty of attention, he added: “But buzz? Oh yes, there will more of that than there was a couple of weeks ago for things that actually have an effect on winning and losing such as the addition of new free agent receiver Mike Wallace.”

The team had little defense against the leaks of the new logo. A picture first showed up on a Twitter account, then the Dolphins players even got in on the reveal. Defensive end Jared Odrick tweeted a picture of himself wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the new logo. Dee the re-tweeted the logo to his followers.

Then the NFL got into the act. On Wednesday NFL.com accidentally posted a picture of the new Dolphins logo on a draft page called “Predict the Draft Pick.” It was quickly taken down, but within hours Dee had made an announcement to confirm what everyone seemed to already know.

The new Dolphins logo will make its official debut on April 25, when the team “unveils” it at the NFL draft.

A Forbes ranking released yesterday placed Detroit, MI at the top of a list of America’s most miserable cities. Detroit took the title from Miami, FL, last year’s winner, which was nowhere to be found on this year’s list. Second place went to Flint, MI, while third went to Rockford, IL. Michigan, Illinois, and California tied for most appearances on the list, with three cities each.

Forbes based its decision on nine factors: violent crime, unemployment, foreclosures, income taxes, property taxes, home prices, commute times, weather, and net migration.

Violent crime in Detroit remains the highest in the country, with 1,052 violent crimes per 100,000 people. This is combined with cutbacks made to the police force as a result of the city’s financial problems.

“It is a circuitous problem as high crime and unemployment force people to leave the city, which lowers the tax base and strains Detroit’s finances further,” Forbes reported.

Forbes looked at the country’s 200 largest metro areas for this report, and some cities on the list are more surprising than others. Chicago ranked at 4th place due to its long commutes, decreasing home prices, cold winters, and high foreclosure rates. 107,000 people have left the city over the past five years.

New York City was ranked number 10 for having the longest average commute times and the highest income tax rates. There has also been a slow migration out of the city that Moody’s expects to jump dramatically over the next three years.

Meanwhile, Miami benefited from the addition of net migration to this year’s criteria, where Miami ranks 20th in the country among the 200 largest metros. The city also has a recovering housing market. On the other hand, its violent crime rate still remains the seventh worst in the country.

Detroit has been in decline for four decades now, so its appearance on the list is far from shocking. Still, not everyone is convinced that Detroit will keep the title for long.

“There is no question that Detroit has many challenges,” Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said in a statement to Forbes. “With all due respect to the data in this report, Detroit is in the midst of a transformation. That transformation is being driven by my restructuring plan, which is focused on four key areas: public safety; public lighting; public transportation; and neighborhood blight removal.”

If the mayor is right, perhaps America will have a different miserable city atop the throne next year.

Miami, FL – United States soccer star Robbie Rogers has officially come out as a gay man, an announcement that was coupled with his confessed intention of stepping away from the sport.

The 25-year-old most recently played in England for Leeds United and Stevenage, and has a total of 18 caps for the US team. Under the title “The Next Chapter,” Rogers posted his coming out announcement to his website.

Rogers admitted that he was afraid to come out as gay, partially because there are no openly gay players in Major League Soccer or in the English professional leagues, reports MSN.

“Secrets can cause so much internal damage. People love to preach about honesty, how honesty is so plain and simple. Try explaining to your loved ones after 25 years you are gay,” Rogers wrote.

“For the past 25 years I have been afraid, afraid to show whom I really was because of fear. Fear that judgment and rejection would hold me back from my dreams and aspirations. Fear that my loved ones would be farthest from me if they knew my secret. Fear that my secret would get in the way of my dreams.

“Dreams of going to a World Cup, dreams of the Olympics, dreams of making my family proud. What would life be without these dreams? Could I live a life without them?”

Though Rogers said int he post that he’s grateful for all of his friends and their support, he’ll be stepping away from the sport for a time to “discover” himself “away from football.”

The California native is currently in London, working in an internship with Men’s Health Magazine. Rogers’ coming out was received with support and encouragement among peers on social media:

Leonardo DiCaprio and Bradley Cooper spent Sunday afternoon watching the lovely bikini-clad ladies of Miami beach rather than the Super Bowl.

DiCaprio and Cooper were also seen together at Sean Penn’s charity gala entitled, Help Haiti Home, and the Titanic star even split a $400,000 with another woman for a dinner date with Bill Clinton.

However, fans of DiCaprio are going to have prepare for life without the hunky actor after he announced that he intends to take a “long” break from acting because he is “worn out” and “drained.” Since 2010, he has starred in Shutter Island, Inception, J. Florida widow and former stripper, 56-year-old Narcy Novack of Fort Lauderdale, and her brother Cristobal Veliz of Brooklyn were officially sentenced today to life in prison for hiring hit men to carry out the 2009 savage deaths of Novack’s wealthy husband Ben Novack, a 53-year-old Fontainebleau hotel heir, and his mother, 87-year old Bernice Novack.

Novack’s avarice motive was simply to gain access to the family millions, and she even attempted to implicate her daughter May Abad for Ben Novack’s murder. Abad’s sons stood to inherit the majority of the estate. Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore stated:

“Today, Narcy Novack and Cristobal Veliz are finally being held accountable for their gruesome and brutal conduct. It was pure greed that drove their evil scheme to steal millions of dollars from the Novack family by murdering Ben Novack, Jr. and his elderly mother Bernice Novack and plotting to kill a witness in order to prevent her testimony in the case against them. This dangerous brother/sister team will now be where they belong—behind bars for the rest of their natural lives.”

The siblings had been previously acquitted of murder in lieu of racketeering, which would have carried a mandatory life sentence. They faced charges of racketeering, domestic violence, stalking, money-laundering, transporting stolen property, and witness-tampering. Racketeering refers to criminal activity that is performed to benefit an organization such as a crime syndicate. Racketeering includes extortion, money laundering, loan sharking, obstruction of justice, and bribery. But the two were eventually convicted of murder as part of the conspiracy.

In April 2009, Bernice Novack was found dead in the laundry room of her Florida home. Her death from skull fractures and was not immediately considered suspicious as she’d had a recorded history of falls, but, following her son’s vicious slaying, her death was re-investigated as a homicide.

In July 2009, Ben Novack was found dead in his bed at a hotel in Rye Brook, New York. Dumbbells were used to bludgeon him to death. At the time of his death, Mr. Novack had been carrying on an affair with a porn actress Rebecca Bliss, inciting concern that he would file for divorce and, due to a prenuptial agreement, bar Mrs. Novack from the estate. Bliss was also a key witness and admitted in court to the affair. She expounded further, noting that Mrs. Novack had offered her money to end the relationship, stating that, otherwise, if she couldn’t have him, no other woman would.

Demi Moore was allegedly dumped by her rumored boy toy, Vito Schnabel. Moore reportedly emerged rather downcast after several days spent partying in Miami. Schnabel, 26, supposedly dumped the 50-year-old actress after just a brief fling.

Vito Schnabel, an art dealer, told Moore that the romance was over when the pair met up at the Art Basel event in Miami, according to the Daily Mail. Demi Moore was reportedly spotted looking glum in South Florida on Sunday. The Charlie’s Angels star allegedly adorned in dark sunglasses, cut-off denim shorts, and a non-descript blue shirt. Moore and Schnabel were rumored to be a couple a few weeks before both flew to Miami for the annual Art Basel event.

Moore’s “boy toy” was allegedly irritated that she showed up in Florida to hang out and party with other celebrities. Schnabel. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Demi Moore was photographed partying at the Chanel BBQ at the SoHo Beach House. Moore appeared to be enjoying an evening of dancing and socializing with Stacy Keibler and Lenny Kravitz. The Ghost star was considered to be acting “bizarrely” by some as she went bar hopping throughout the weekend.

Vito Schnabel was allegedly angry at Demi Moore for her wild Miami antics. A New York Post Page Six source claims that Schnabel was concerned about being taken seriously by the art work. The source had this to say about the supposed Moore and Schnabel split:

Demi Moore allegedly picked up a stray cat and took the animal to dinner with her as a date in Miami. After photos surfaced of the Charlie’s Angels star partying it up at the SoHO Beach House during the Chanel Beachside BBQ Party, claims followed about the temporary respite given to a homeless kitty.

According to a Radar Online report, Moore’s supposed significant other Vito Schnabel could not accompany her to dinner, so she picked up a stray cat and announced the purring feline was her date for the evening. Photos shared on the celebrity news website show Demi Moore with a very happy looking cat on her lap.

Moore, 50, spotted the stray at outside of the SoHo Beach Housse pool and took it inside with her, the New York Post reports. A source had this to say about Moore’s alleged animal rescue in Miami:

“The kitten sat on Demi’s lap throughout the meal. She was cuddling and petting it.”

Demi allegedly “abandoned” the stray cat before going to party with Stacy Keibler, Lenny Kravitz, and other notables enjoying themselves at the after party. Keibler is movie star George Clooney’s lady love.  A source also claimed that Demi and Stacy partied with a “group of guys” at Jelsomino, a karaoke bar. Keibler alleged tossed back several shots of tequila before the gal pals supposedly left the bar at 2 am to pursue the atmosphere at another club in Miami. Vito Schnabel allegedly joined Moore for the party after the Chanel BBQ concluded.

Scott Disick allegedly blew $15,000 at a night club to impress Kanye West and Lil Wayne after the men supposedly laughed at him. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians significant other went clubbing with Wayne and West in Miami, according to the New York Daily News.

Kourtney Kardashian’s baby daddy was allegedly willing to dig deep into his pockets to be considered one of the cool guys. The boys’ night out spending spree supposedly occurred at LIV in Miami on Sunday evening.

The group reportedly partied until the early morning hours while celebrating DJ Khaled’s birthday. The night was rumored to be filled with drinking, dancing, and flirting with the plethora of attractive, and likely scantily clad, women in attendance. Kim Kardashian was reportedly not in attendance.

A source had this to say about the wild night in Miami and Scott Disick’s open wallet:

“There were tons of rappers and athletes there and Kanye was making fun of Scott being this ‘little dude’ around all of them. Then Lil Wayne joined in on poking fun at Scott, then Diddy [Sean Combs] too. Scott felt really victimized, those were his own words. So in order to fit in and be cool, he started spending money like crazy. Kanye and Diddy and Lil Wayne were giving him props for ‘balling out’ and started to warm up to him.”

The source also claims that after all of the taunting by the other guys in the group at the Miami bar, Disick ultimately whipped out his plastic and spent around $15,000 on drinks for the table. The source went on to claim that Scott Disick had the hotel’s owner usher a “ton of girls” over to the group. The supposed insider had this to say about the flirting rumored to be going on at the table:

“Kanye got visibly uncomfortable with the amount of girls at the table because of Scott. Scott was flirting, as usual, with them and offering them drinks and being really inviting. Kanye was just trying to avoid all the girls’ advances. After emptying a few bottles, Kanye flirted a bit”while Diddy shouted, ‘Scott is a bad influence.’ “

Tampa, FL – After mostly silence, Jill Kelley is defending herself and saying that there was nothing wrong with making a few General friends.

Kelley is a Miami socialite linked to former CIA Director David Petraeus’s resignation and affair scandal, though why she keeps coming up in the press and investigation is not entirely clear.

Abbe Lowell, Kelley’s attorney, says that the federal government is responsible for leaking information about his client even though she wasn’t affiliated with the scandal. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Lowell “released emails, telephone recordings and other material that he and Kelley say proves she never tried to exploit her friendship with Petraeus.”

In a letter addressed to W. Stephen Muldrow, the assistant US Attorney in Tampa, Lowell also questions why Kelley and her husband, Dr. Scott Kelley, were named in the investigation, reports The Christian Post.

“You no doubt have seen the tremendous attention that the Kelleys have received in the media,” Lowell wrote. “All they did to receive this attention was to let law enforcement know that they had been the subjects of inappropriate and potentially threatening behavior by someone else.”

Lowell also alleged that the government leaked the damning information in question:

“These leaks most certainly had to come, at least in part, from government sources,” Lowell added. “The earliest and best example of the leaks would be the release to the media of the names of my clients. As you know, there are several rules and laws that seek to protect United States citizens against such leaks.”

The Kelleys became friends with Petraeus and General John Allen while they were serving at the US Central Command in Miami. Email correspondence between Jill Kelley and General Allen were brought forth in the investigation, with some alleging that the tone of the messages was “flirtatious.” That rumor has since been denied.

Still, the leak caused Kelley to lose her title of honorary consul for the South Korean government.

Miami, FL – If you were thinking of going out and killing a turkey for your Thanksgiving dinner, think again. Two young men were arrested in South Florida for doing just that.

NBC Miami reports that 19-year-old Joshua Warren Anderson and 18-year-old Jacob Hayden Provo were taken into custody on Monday for burglary, trespassing, larceny and tormenting, depriving or mutilating an animal, according to the sheriff’s report.

Here’s what happened. Florida residents Brian and Christa Caponi owned this pet turkey named Tom the Turkey, and set him loose on their Gulf Breeze property mere days before Thanksgiving. Trespassers Anderson and Provo killed Tom with an arrow and took him away for their Thanksgiving dinner, according to authorities.

The owners were distraught over the turkey homicide, and collected enough clues on their own that deputies were quickly able to arrest the two suspects, said the Santa Rose sheriff’s report.

“Christa told me that Tom was a very friendly pet who she loved,” a sheriff’s deputy wrote in the report. She also said that she was scared that someone may have entered her property. Indeed, Provo was the Caponi family’s neighbor.

Authorities caught up with Provo based on a vehicle description provided by the Caponis. When asked where he got the dead turkey in his car, Provo said that he had killed it in nearby Milton, before finally admitting to killing Tom the Turkey and removing him from his neighbor’s property.

“He knew he should not have killed it and he should not have been there,” the report said. Anderson was in the vehicle as well, and “admitted to being with Provo while the turkey was killed and stolen.”

Tom was an eastern wild turkey with an estimated value of $300. Add that price-tag to bail bonds and various legal fees, and the Thanksgiving Day turkey homicide suspects are looking at a pretty expensive Thanksgiving dinner this year.

Tomorrow, when you’re surrounded by friends and family on Thanksgiving, be sure to pour one out for Tom the Turkey.

Thankskilling: Two Arrested For Thanksgiving Turkey Homicide is a post from: The Inquisitr

MIAMI- There were three people killed early Saturday when a man accidently drove into oncoming traffic while drag racing two other cars.

According to NBC News, the accident happened at about 2 a.m. on Flagler Street and  58th Avenue. Miami Police spokesman Willie Moreno said a Toyota Scion was racing westbound, with two other cars, when the driver lost control of the car and crashed head-on into a Ford Expedition, which was carrying a family of four.

“I knew what kind of car it was because I know about that,”  said an onlooker Antonio Hernandez. “But it was, my impression was I have to stop  to see that because I need to stop racing.”

The collision killed two members of the family on impact. Jose Serrano, 43, and his son German Serrano, 15, were the two members of the family that died on impact. The mother, 42-year-old Carmen Orta and 12-year-old Gabriel Serrano are currently in critical condition at a hospital.

The third vicitm that died during this collision was 20-year-old Ivan Rodriquez Jr., who was the passenger in the Scion. He was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene.

“You can see that the impact is so massive that it tossed this  SUV, just tossed it around,” Moreno said. “The vehicle continued to rotate an additional three times before coming to a resting point. Also so massive the impact that the entire engine was dislodged from this vehicle.”

The driver of the scion was reported to traveling at an “excessive high rate of speed”, possibly up to 100 mph, said police.

The driver of the Scion was identified as 19-year-old Alejandro Hernandez. He was also ejected from the vehicle but is currently in critical condition.

Miami, FL – $10 million dollars is a lot to spend on a home; then again, if you’re Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, you can afford to throw around that type of cheddar. The famous couple are reportedly looking for a new $10 million mansion to call their very own.

TMZ reports that the happy couple are hoping to find a home they can share in Miami, Florida.

A source close to the couple says they have been talking about owning a home together for months. Miami has been chosen because both Kanye West and Kim Kardashian love the city and because Kim will be filming a reality show in the city with her sister Kourtney Kardashian.

If the rumor is correct, Kanye and Kim have already looked at four homes this week, and, as expected, they are all waterfront properties.

The famous pair may be willing to slum it; according to some reports, they have managed to look at some homes that only cost $7 million.

This newest report comes less than one week after we reported that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were going through a “cooling off period” following intense public scrutiny over their relationship. The couple were reportedly attempting to make their relationship less “intense” after spending every waking hour together.

In the meantime, Kim Kardashian is rumored to be ready for children of her own and snoops say she plans to have Kanye West babies sometime in 2013. Perhaps looking for a new home is the first step towards little Kanyes and Kims running all over the place. I can already see reality TV show executives drooling over a Kardashian-West series.

Miami Heat star LeBron James may be the reigning MVP champion in the NBA but that doesn’t mean he is going to play like one when the preseason gets underway.

LeBron announced on Sunday that he would likely take it easy when the Heat begin the preseason on October 7 against the Atlanta Hawks.

James is concerned that over exerting himself could wear down his body before the start of the regular season. James has been playing basketball non-stop for 10 months and following the Hawks game the Miami Heat will head to China for two exhibition games against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Speaking of the Hawks game James told reporters:

“I don’t even know if I’ll play much at all in that game.”

The Heat are constantly monitoring LeBron James’ workout times and strength to ensure that he remains in peak physical condition for the 2012-2013 NBA season.

When asked how it felt to be ahead of the physical curve at the moment James said:

“It does feel different. I’m in better shape right now than I’ve been, because I’ve played so much basketball. Usually, it takes me a week, a week-and-a-half of camp to kind of get back into it. A-nari Taylor has been dubbed Miami’s littlest crime fighter after fighting off a would-be kidnapper with her bare hands.

A-nari, 7, and her cousin, 4-year-old Brandon, were playing with other kids outside their apartment complex when a man walked up to Brandon, screaming “God told me to take him, God told me he’s coming with me,” A-nari told NBC News.  The would-be abductor “allegedly grabbed Brandon’s arm, but A-nari stepped into action.”

“The man started pulling him, and we start pulling him back,” A-nari told the press, “I had to chop and kick him so he could let Brandon go.” The girl was honored in a civil ceremony, in which she announced that she was scared, but she had to fight to save Brandon, “cause my mama always said safety is first.”

As A-nari fought for her cousin, another adult ran from the apartment complex to assist. The New York Daily reports that the city held a ceremony to honor their pint-sized hero, where “police gave Taylor a plaque and a SpongeBob SquarePants jacket.”

Although the would-be kidnapper eventually gave up and let Brandon go, A-nari was able to help police identify the man, 39-year-old David Moore, who was arrested. A-nari told the NewYork Daily after the ceremony that “the scare isn’t enough to keep her indoors, but she’ll make sure her mom is always nearby.”

The girl was honored in a civil ceremony, in which she announced that she was scared, but she had to fight to save Brandon, “cause my mama always said safety is first.”

Miami police Officer Fausto Lopez, also known as South Florida’s infamous speeding cop, has been fired from his position on the force, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Lopez was arrested by a state trooper after being clocked doing 120 mph while leading his fellow officers on a high-speed chase. Before long, footage from the chase when viral, and Lopez found himself thrust into the national spotlight. Not surprisingly, his superiors weren’t overly thrilled with their employee’s behavior. Fausto’s excuse: he was late for an off-duty job.

Although the incident took place nearly one year ago, Officer Lopez wasn’t suspended from the force until mid-July. Following an investigation by Internal Affairs, it was recommended that the speeding cop be fired from the department for his antics on the highway. On Thursday, Lopez reportedly signed his termination paperwork, effectively ending his career with the Miami Police.

“You are herby notified that you are terminated as a police officer effective [Thursday] for having failed to fulfill your obligation as an employee of the department,” the letter read.

According to the CBS News, Lopez apparently has a history of putting the pedal to the proverbial metal. The speeding cop has reportedly been clocked doing at least 90 mph over 80 times. At the time of his arrest, state trooper Donna Jane Watts caught Lopez doing upwards of 120 mph. He ultimately pleaded no contest the charges, and was sentenced to over 100 hours of community service.

Because of the Lopez’s blatant disregard for the safety of those he’s sworn to protect, the incident cost the police officer his job. Although the department has not issued an official statement on the subject, Chief Manuel Orosa expressed his feelings about the incident to the Sun-Sentinel back in June.

“It keeps me wondering as to what were they thinking when they were going over 80, 90 mph, day in and day out,” he explained. “That’s really astonishing.”

The speeding cop now has 15 days to contest his termination. At the time of this writing, he has not responded to inquiries from the media.

An unlicensed dentist in Miami has seriously disfigured a 14-year-old girl’s teeth, according to the folks at CBS Miami. Reports indicate that the supposed professional, who was operating his business out of his home, filed down the screaming teenager’s chompers before yanking four of her front teeth. For the pain and anguish they inflicted upon the poor girl, the dentist and his assistants are now being charged with child abuse.

The victim’s mother, Claribel Agramonte, is now speaking publicly about the ordeal. Her mission: Warn other parents about the dangers of dentists who operate out of their homes. “The message is that people have to be careful with what they do,” she explained. “I was just trying to help my daughter and look what happened.”

“My daughter was crying all the time and they didn’t stop,” Agramonte continued. “They just gave her more anesthesia. I feel really bad because my daughter is suffering and she’s going to stay suffering.”

At one point during the visit, the teenager’s shrieks became so blood-curdling that her mother had to step outside. By going public with the information, Agramonte hopes that other parents won’t make the same mistake she did.

According to NBC News, the procedure, which was supposed to correct a chipped tooth, left the teenage girl with horribly disfigured teeth. The perpetrators of this horrible crime, Humberto Perez, Maria Perez, and Odalis Hernandez-Perez, have been arrested for inflicting harm upon the poor girl. In addition to two charges of child abuse, the trio are being accused of performing dental services without a license.

Although authorities described the home as everything as dentist’s office shouldn’t be, the teen’s mom explained that this kind of dental practice is commonplace in the Dominican Republic.

Major David Magnusson of the Miami Police Department stated that this is the sort of thing that tends to happen when people perform dentistry without a license. “The licensed dentist said that in his 30 years of experience, he has never seen anything as horrible as what they have done to this girl,” Magnusson said.

The search is on for crocodile hunters in Florida. Sure, it’s a dangerous job, but someone has to do it, and relocating to the Florida Keys means not having to endure anymore long, cold winters. Approximately 150 people have sent in their resumes to help fill the crocodile hunter void in the Miami and Florida Keys region.

Florida Crocodile Response Agents are needed to thwart the growing and roaming population of the giant reptiles in South Florida. The agents are expected to track down crocodiles on an as-needed basis. Florida crocodile hunters garner $25 an hour for wrestling the reptiles into submission and capturing them – no experience necessary.

Frank Resillez noted during a My Fox Tampa Bay interview that crocodile hunting is a dangerous job, but he is willing to accept the challenge.

“You start by the tail, you pull him backward, destabilize his footing, get on his neck and climb,” Resillez noted when demonstrating how to catch a crocodile.

Although a career as a crocodile hunter may sound a bit humorous or exciting, Florida Crocodile Response Agent hopeful Captain John Houpt notes Florida Keys and Miami residents really do need a “little bit of separation” from the reptiles. According to Captain Houpt’s comments to Fox News, the crocodiles may be fun to look at, but, once they get comfortable being around human beings, the reptiles start to look at people as a food source.

Florida Fish and Wildlife considers the American crocodile a reclusive and basically shy species that thrives in saltwater areas of South Florida, the northern end of the crocodile’s Caribbean range. In the 1970s, there were only several hundred American crocodiles in Florida, prompting the reptiles to be added to the endangered species list and making it illegal to hunt the crocodiles. Today there are approximately 2,000 crocodiles in the Florida Keys and Miami area, hence the need for more crocodile hunters. If $25 per hour to wrestle crocodiles sounds like a great way to make some extra cash, the Florida Wildlife Commission is still taking applications.

A Nicki Minaj fan was punched, kicked, pushed, and generally man-handled after rushing the stage and the singer during her July 24 concert in Miami. Luckily, there’s video.

Though it’s not entirely clear what happened, it seems as though one fan just couldn’t keep his hands to himself, rushed onto the stage with Minaj, and puts his hands around her waist. His intentions are completely unknown, but this is the sort of thing that usually gets the attention of well-paid security detail who were nanoseconds behind him, pulling him away from Minaj, dragging him to the ground, and kicking the crap out of him. All on stage.

Media reaction to the incident is mixed, with the Huffington Post opining, “The fan certainly acted out of line by jumping on stage and grabbing Minaj by the waist, but was the reaction of her gigantic security guards in proportion to the offense?” Regardless, videos of the event continue to make the round on the Internet.

Minaj herself seemed “unfazed” by the incident, saying, “I want to say thank you for the love, Florida!”

Nicki Minaj is currently touring in support of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, bringing out locals Lil’ Wayne and Birdman to the Miami show. Minaj also recently booked a Today Show gig – more on that as it develops.

A Miami man was shocked Wednesday to find a whopping 10-foot-long giant crocodile just kicking it on his front porch.

The 25o-pound giant croc wandered into a South Miami neighborhood earlier this week through a hole in a chain-link fence that backs a canal, according to NY Daily. The giant croc wandered through people’s yard before taking a break on the front porch of Javier Tobares, who discovered the reptile after his dog issued several warning barks. “I come outside, and I see all these guys around this pretty big crocodile,” said Tobares. “It’s pretty interesting. I never seen a crocodile so close.” Tobares took notice of the croc early Wednesday morning as an animal control wrangler attempted to subdue the massive creature.

Tobares was reportedly relieved that animal control officials caught the giant crocodile before he had to call them in. “If I would have stepped on it, I would have been pretty surprised. I probably would have jumped 10 feet high and gone back into my house really quick. It was a big, a big crocodile,” he told WSVN-TV.

Crocodiles are less common in Florida than their cousin, the alligator, but have been making a comeback from the brink of extinction in recent decades, with their numbers increasing 10-fold, according to scientists. Though the giant crocodile was captured and taken back to its natural habitat, crocs habitually return to territory that they have previously “staked out,” sometimes even traveling over 50 miles to get back to a familiar place…

…Meaning that Tobares may not have seen the last of the giant crocodile that is so fond of his stoop.

Good morning! Are you ready for the best article you’ll read all day? I hope so! This one concerns the Florida YouTube duo behind the infamous “Miami Zombie” prank video. The pair’s follow-up, a video titled “Russian Hitman Prank Gone Wrong!” was much less successful and earned them a free trip to jail in the back of a paddy wagon.

Allow me to explain.

Jonathan Vanegas, 20, and Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, 20, both of Delray Beach, saw massive success following the “Miami Zombie” viral video. The clip drew some criticism, but netted the two over 13 million views on YouTube and a a coveted spot on Comedy Central’s Tosh.0, reports the Global Post. Of course, when Batman Begins proved popular, Christopher Nolan already started wheels spinning on The Dark Knight, and so did Vanegas and Zdorovetskiy follow in kind, raising the stakes for their second video “Russian Hitman Prank Gone Wrong!”

The second run didn’t go as well as the first.

The video, filmed by Vanegas, shows Zdorovetskiy dressed as a member of the Russian mob. He walks up to stranger, sets down a briefcase, and tells the prank victim that he has 60 seconds to run away. Zdorovetskiy then runs away and the prank victim hilariously runs away too, right? Not 51-year-old Andre Brown. “You trying to get a laugh?” he asked, incredulously. “I’m not a motherf***er you laugh at.”

“I was already having a bad day, and then you motherf*****s come over here and you done make it worse.”

At this point, Brown (who will likely become a meme of some sort very soon) turned the tables on the pranksters. There was some yelling back and forth, threats to call the cops, an @$$-whoopin’, you know the rest. The cops did indeed show up, and at this point details get kind of fuzzy. What we do know, thanks to the Miami New Times, is that Vanegas and Zdorovetskiy were ultimately hauled away on felony bomb hoax charges.

First Lady Michelle Obama is currently on the campaign trail in Florida leaving Republican school board members none too pleased by her decision to hold an event at a local school.

Conservatively-inclined members of the Miami-Dade, Florida School Board sent a concise message to the First Lady on Tuesday: stay away from our schools. Florida has always been known as a battleground state in presidential elections (who can forget the classic Gore/Bush fiasco in 2000) and it seems the right wing down there are doing what they can to keep a lid on President Obama’s re-election pleas. The Miami Herald reports that two GOP board members urged that a Michelle Obama event at Barbara Goleman Senior High be cancelled immediately and its legality subsequently questioned.

“Allowing the first lady of the United States to use one of our schools explicitly to benefit the president’s reelection campaign is inappropriate and sends the wrong message to our students, employees, and to taxpayers – even if the president’s campaign is willing to pay for all costs resulting from the event,” said the letter urging the event’s cancellation, reports the Huffington Post.

Another board member echoed similar concerns: “The use of public schools whose only focus should be to educate our children for political gain is downright wrong. Don’t these liberals have boundaries? Our schools are places for learning, not places for politicking.”

Kind of depends on policy, really. For instance, Miami-Dade school board policy stipulates that any group can lease school property for gatherings and events, including political groups. In fact, the board isn’t allowed to discriminate against specific groups, reports NY Daily. Schools all over the country are actually commonly used by candidates of both parties in presidential elections. Mitt Romney will be at Central High School in Grand Junction, Colorado holding a town hall Tuesday. Don’t these conservatives have boundaries?

Weird. I know Florida school board policy better than some Florida school board members.

If you haven’t gotten your dose of tragic irony today, allow me to remedy the situation. A man formerly cleared of charges in a “stand your ground” case has been shot dead.

A Miami man who was acquitted three months ago in a controversial “stand your ground” case was killed by a stray bullet this week. After being cleared of all charges, Greyston Garcia secured a job as a cashier at an all-night convenience store in Liberty City. On Tuesday night, he asked to go home early. His boss let him off the clock on the condition that he go to a nearby gas station to get change for some $20 bills. He did, and was struck by a bullet from a nearby firefight on his way back to work. He was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

A 16-year-old boy was also killed in the shooting, notes Newser.

“I don’t know what to say,” said veteran Miami homicide Sgt. Ervens Ford, who was an investigator on Garcia’s original case. “You can’t make this stuff up. Only in Miami.”

Garcia was acquitted months ago after chasing down a man who stole his car radio armed with only a knife. Garcia killed Pedro Roteta with a single knife thrust to the chest. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Beth Bloom found that Garcia had acted in self-defense after a medical examiner ruled that “a 4-6 pound bag of metal being swung at one’s head would lead to serious bodily injury or death,” her order said. Roteta had swung a bag filled with car radios at Garcia, reports the Miami Herald.

“Greyston was a hard working and caring person, who like his father before him, loved and lived for his family above all else,” said his defense attorney, Eduardo Pereira. “Greyston’s wife, Dianelys, and his children, the youngest having enjoyed his first and last birthday with his father, will miss a young man who having survived a brush with death, embraced a second chance at life.”

According to store owner Kenny Abdul, Garcia was a good worker and frequently talked about his kids. “I liked him. He was honest and didn’t bother nobody,” Abdul said.

Miley Cyrus was recently photographed kickin’ it in a Miami pool with a good looking guy who is not her fiance of two weeks, Liam Hemsworth. Naturally, everybody overreacted and cheating rumors went live all over the internet, causing Cyrus to step out in defense of her innocent pool party.

Taking a break from recording on Tuesday, Miley was spotted hanging out at the pool of the Delano in South Beach with the unidentified male. With Liam Hemsworth in Louisiana working on his next film Empire State, the media began to speculate whether the two were already on the rocks. But all is innocent, according to People. The previously unidentified gentlemen was confirmed as longtime friend and part-time assistant Cheyne Thomas by Miley’s rep: “There’s no story there,” said the rep.

Oh but there is, Miley rep. The story is Miley’s Twitter-rage against her would-be accusers.

“@tishcyrus I love my fiancé & he loves me,” she tweeted to her mom. “All the rest is bull sh–. We get to live a life of happiness no one can take that away from us!”

But it doesn’t end there. Swinging in defense of herself, Cyrus Tweeted:

“So now because I am engaged I can’t have a friend of the opposite sex? can’t have a friend help me out while I’m working alllll day?#dumb,” she tweeted once the photos hit the internet. “Maybe YOU would have friends too if you’d get your face out the tabloids & start living your own life unfortunate.”

What’s more, a recently leaked bite of what is allegedly new Miley music had her on the defensive again. Addressing the leak, Miley denied that the music was hers, stating, “That is most definitely not me or my style of new music.”

Miley is currently in Florida working on her next album, which is supposed to be “very adult and sexy.”

A law enforcement officer tells the The Miami Herald that marijuana was found in the dead man’s body and several undigested and yet to be identified pills.

It will still be weeks before the official toxicology report is released by authorities.

The attack which occurred on May 26 in broad daylight left chunks of the 66-year-old homeless man’s flesh strewn across the ground.

Authorities still believe Eugene may have been influenced by “bath salts” which can cause delirium and violent behavior in users and which can be purchased in both pill and powder form.

Police are still trying to paint a portrait of Eugene’s life leading up to the attack, they known from verified reports that just before he began attacking the homeless man a 911 caller reported that he was “completely naked” and swinging from the top of a light pole on the MacArthur causeway. Directly before the attack Eugene was seen stripping Poppo before attacking his face with his own mouth.

According to one 911 caller:

“He’s beating another man. It’s a naked man beating another man. He is going to kill that man. I promise you.”

Miami-Dade prosecutors will review all findings before the autopsy report is released to the public.

Zombies have been a whispered about topic in recent weeks after a few bizarre and horrifying high-profile incidents hit the news involving cannibalism and attacks attributed to the newish drug known as bath salts. (The CDC even addressed the issue of zombies in a statement.)

While everyone (for the most part) doesn’t really believe in zombies, the similarities between the profile of the attacks and the hallmarks of zombie films cannot be ignored. Flesh eating, imperviousness or lack of concern toward severe bodily injury and growling are all behaviors we’ve come to associate with our walking dead tropes, so it’s natural some enterprising businessperson would take advantage of the viral headlines. (Heh, viral.)

Are you surprised that there are places now marketing zombie bullets as a just-in-case or curiosity following the several stories in recent weeks that seem to involve walker-like behavior?

According to CBS News, Hornady Manufacturing is doing just that, shilling ammo as particularly well-suited for taking down shooting-resistant zombies, and the company’s site proclaims:

“Be PREPARED – supply yourself for the Zombie Apocalypse with Zombie Max ammunition from Hornady! Loaded with PROVEN Z-Max bullets… MAKE DEAD PERMANENT!”

Hornady’s spokesman Everett Deger explains that the bullets are for shooting targets, not people, dead or alive. Of the zombie bullets, he says:

“After it gained some acceptance among some of us here in the company got on board with the idea we decided just to have some fun with a marketing plan that would allow us to create some ammunition designed for that … fictional world.”

Okay, if you hadn’t felt the last few days were just like the beginning of a zombie apocalypse movie, then perhaps the CDC coming out and saying everybody stay calm, there is no zombie apocalypse will perk your ears up.

Seriously, is there anything that says “we have zombies” more than the CDC denying we have zombies? The web chatter started in earnest last weekend, when a gruesome story out of Florida went viral, in which an apparently psychotic man attacked another, chewing the second’s face for nearly twenty minutes before police were forced to fire off a full clip at the assailant, eventually killing him.

(It was reported that the attacker carried on chewing his victim’s flesh after having been shot, which is a behavior many associate with zombie tropes on TV and in film.) But it wasn’t just the Florida face-chewing incident that got web searchers buzzing. Another incident involved a doctor who began spitting blood at arresting officers during a traffic stop and was difficult to subdue afterwards at the hospital, and a few incidents in which hazmat teams were dispatched to schools after reports of unexplainable rashes popping up among large numbers of students.

Oh yeah, and the intestines throwing guy. And radioactive sushi.

And now the Centers For Disease Control- also known as the initial villains and/or the agency of last resort in nearly every zombie apocalypse tale- is acknowledging the rumors, saying in an email to HuffPo that the dead have not begun to walk, no matter what you may be reading on the interwebs. The agency has been known to use zombie media to spread disaster awareness (such as in this list of rules from The Walking Dead), but the CDC maintains plausible deniability when it comes to the recent spate of walker-like incidents:

“CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would present zombie-like symptoms),” wrote agency spokesman David Daigle in an email to The Huffington Post.

But you know, just in case, the CDC who equivocally says there are no zombies would also like to remind you to stock up on gas, get a first aid kit and make sure your water is clean.

CDC Denies Zombie Apocalypse Internet Rumors, ‘Does Not Know of a Virus or Condition That Would Reanimate the Dead’ is a post from: The Inquisitr

The man gravely injured in the Miami face chewing attack that has been inspiring “zombie apocalypse” searches across the web for the past few days has been identified, and police say the victim, 65-year-old Ronald Poppo, is a homeless man who lived in the vicinity of the bridge where he was attacked in the horrifying incident over the weekend.

The face-eating attacker, 31-year-old Rudy Eugene, was eventually shot and killed by police after continuing to attack the helpless victim. Police attempted to subdue Eugene with a single shot, but were forced to shoot him a second time as he tore flesh from the victim’s face, resulting in disfiguring injuries.

The attack was not only cosmetic in nature- days later, Poppo remains in critical condition and authorities say that nearly 70% of his face was destroyed in the terrifying, middle-of-the-night attack. Sgt. Armando Aguilar, president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, describes a scene from a horror movie when he talks about Poppo’s injuries sustained in the face-eating incident, the violent nature of which left eyewitnesses palpably shaken days after the attack:

“He had his face eaten down to his goatee. The forehead was just bone. No nose, no mouth. In my opinion, he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Sgt. Javier Ortiz, vice president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, told press that the scene of the face-eating attack was one of the “goriest scenes [he's] ever been to.” Ortiz explained:

“It was not only grotesque, it was just very sad, the amount of blood. It was very sad to see what happened to this gentleman that had his face eaten.”

Ortiz also says the officer that was forced to fire on and kill Eugene was also “clearly shaken up” after the shocking incident.

Zombie apocalypse is just one doomsday scenario of many that we consider (nuclear accident, plague and pestilence, or the election of Donald Trump to public office are other potential world-ending precipitates), and despite its relative implausibility, it’s one to which we return to plan our arsenal, bug out bag, escape route, and potential and sex-guaranteeing rescue of an object of our affection. So it was with no small measure of nervous giggling a series of zombie apocalypse-esque stories have been trending on social media in recent weeks, and despite the gruesome nature of many, Facebook and Twitter users can’t help but make references to the seemingly imminent arrival of Z-Day.

The most zombieriffic story to trend this week of course was that of the face-eater in Miami who continued eating a man’s face even after he was shot once by police, police who presumably have watched Zombieland and know to double-tap.

Then there was the man in New Jersey who began throwing bits of his own entrails at police officers, and was not subdued by pepper spray.

Two stories that really do sound like the start of Jersey Shore of the Dead to be sure, but wait, there’s more. Also in Florida, a doctor was arrested and began spitting blood at the officers taking him into custody, also impervious to standard methods of restraint.

Also, there is the radioactive sushi. I don’t know about you guys, but if a police chief that looks like George Romero gets on the news and tells me that reports that the dead have begun walking are internet rumors, I’m stocking up on baseball bats and scythes and heading up to Woodstock, who’s with me?

On Sunday we reported a story about a naked man who was shot to death while eating the face off another man in Miami, now the name of that crazed killer has been revealed. The flesh eating cannibal was 31-year-old Rudy Eugene.

Even before Sunday’s crazed attack that ultimately led to his death by gunfire Rudy had a criminal record. According to the Miami Herald he had previously been arrested for a battery charge when he was 16, and was then arrested seven other times between 2004 and 2009. Rudy’s charges were mostly petty, for example vending near a school, trespassing, and marijuana-related offenses. However a woman he was married to for one year also claims he became extremely violent towards her.

Rudy’s ex-wife who filed for divorce in 2007 told local affiliate WPLG:

“I wouldn’t say he had mental problem, but he always felt like people was against him. No one was for him, everyone was against him.”

Eventually Rudy lost his home in foreclosure but according to the new tenants he would show up uninvited looking for mail.

Police believe that Rudy attacked his victim because he was having a bout of cocaine psychosis or was suffering from an overdose of “bath salts,” a synethic drug police say is being used as a new form of LSD.

In the meantime Miami police are asking that any potential witnesses who have not yet stepped forward regarding the incident to call the local police station at 305-603-6350 to report any further details about the attack to investigators.

A man was shot dead in downtown Miami today after he was found eating another man’s face.

According to Local 10, a police officer approached the naked, and possibly drugged up man, at a downtown causeway off-ramp. When the officer realized what was happening he quickly stepped back and grabbed his gun.

Fraternal Order of Police President Armando Aguilar said:

“When the officer approached him, told him to stop, pointed a gun at him. He turned around and growled like a wild animal and kept eating at the mans face.”

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the victim lost part of his ear, cheek and nose in the attack. The man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital and is currently in critical condition.

Larry Vega, who witnessed the attack, told Local 10:

“When I looked forward, there’s a guy on top of another person, eating him up like, just tearing, tearing his face apart… It’s going to take some time to forget. I never thought I would see someone else eating someone. It was really, really horrific.”

The police have not released the identities of either man. The Miami Police Department confirmed that there had been a shooting but did not give the exact details.

According to Vega, the unidentified officer shot the attacker four times after the man refused to back away from the victim. Vega said:

 ”The police officer confronted the aggressor, and he was like a rabid dog and confronted the officer. Then the officer shot the person four times.”

An anonymous producer for NBC News has been fired by the network for his role in the edited George Zimmerman 911 call from the night of Trayvon Martin’s death.

The 911 recording in question was aired March 27 on NBC’s Today show.  The revised version failed to include the 911 dispatcher’s inquiry as to the race of the suspect.  This lead listeners to believe that Zimmerman had volunteered the information regarding the suspect’s race when he stated:

“This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.”

Without hearing the question regarding race that was asked by the dispatcher, it comes as no surprise that there were those who were lead to believe that Zimmerman was quite possibly a racist who had commit a hate crime against a black Florida teenager, Trayvon Martin.

Whatever the case happens to be, it’s in everyone’s best interest if news reports contain all of the facts without unnecessary censorship as to allow the audience to draw their own conclusions from the information presented before them.

An internal investigation by NBC lead to the dismissal of one anonymous producer in Miami, Florida.  The network has also issued an apology after learning of their own regrettable mistake in airing the edited 911 call.  According to Reuters, more than a half dozen employees at NBC were interviewed in the wake of their selective editing disaster.  Staff members at NBC News were “in shock” after learning of the alterations made to the tape.

MIAMI, FLORIDA – The Miami Dolphins were hoping to land Peyton Manning for the 2012 season but now that the former Colt has decided on the Denver Broncos the Dolphins have decided to pick up Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard.

The Canadian Press reports that Garrard signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins on Monday. Garrard was told that he’ll have a shot at the starting job but wasn’t sure who he would be competing against. Garrard said:

“They didn’t say for sure if they were bringing another guy in, but they said it’s a possibility, whether in the draft or whatever.”

The Dolphins have been looking for a new quarterback. In the last week they’ve seen Manning, Matt Flynn, and Alex Smith. For the moment, the Dolphins will have to concentrate on 2012 with either Garrard or Matt Moore in the position.

Garrard said:

“It’s going to be a great competition, and I’m all about that… I’m going to do my best to make sure it’s me on opening day.”

Garrard played for the Jaguars from 2005-2010. In 2007 Garrard threw 18 touchdown passes. In 2008 and 2009 he topped 3,500 yards. Garrard was let go at the start of 2011 and was courted by the Dolphins, but he decided to sit the season out in order to have back surgery.

Garrard said:

“It was taken away from me, and it gave me a great perspective on life and this game. I want to make sure when I leave this game, I do it when I’m ready to go, and there’s never any remorse or thought of, could I have done more?”

Miami, FL – The San Francisco 49ers have jumped into the race to win over Peyton Manning and with that announcement free-agent quarterback Alex Smith has decided to meet with the Miami Dolphins.

Smith traveled to Miami on Sunday to sit down with the teams front office and discuss his future.

Speaking with the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on Sunday Smith said:

“This is the NFL. I guess nothing surprises me anymore.”

Smith continued:

“I never thought a year ago (Peyton) Manning would be a free agent either. I’m never surprised by anything.”

The No. 1 overall draft pick in 2005, San Francisco has been working hard to re-secure his services after he led a comeback 2011 year under first-year coach and former NFL QB Jim Harbaugh.

According to Alex Smith he was happy with the three-year contract the team had worked out however when Peyton Manning entered the picture and went through a physical exam last week Smith started looking elsewhere.

In the meantime Smith is thinking about dumping agent Tom Condon who through CAA Sports also represents Peyton Manning. Smith believes Condon’s work with both men could lead to a conflict of interest.

A move to the Dolphins would reunite Alex Smith with former high school teammate Reggie Bush. The two men last played on the same team at Helix Charter High School in La Mesa, California.

Alex Smith threw just five interceptions during the 2011 season and led the team through five comeback wins during the regular season and another during their playoff match against the New Orleans Saints which led to a 36-32 victory.

Last season Smith made $4.9 million in base salary while earning a $1 million bonus for reaching the playoffs.

Gabrielle Union pulled out all the stops to celebrate boyfriend Dwayne Wade’s 30th birthday on Sunday night.

Union threw the Miami Heat player his own private birthday bash at the Setai Hotel in South Beach near Miami. Among other famous guests, Rick Ross, T.I., Usher, and Common were in attendance. Many of Wade’s teammates and friends were also present, including LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Udonis Haslem, Alonzo Mourning and Pat Riley.

Singer Kelly Rowland gave the basketball star his own personal performance, doing her own twist on the “Happy Birthday” song. T.I., Ross, and Common also got on stage for surprise performances.

Present-wise, Union gave Wade a 2012 McLaren MP4-12C, a vintage bottle of Dom Perignon, and a Hublot 3000 watch, covered in diamonds. His monolithic birthday cake was covered in silver confection with a bowtie, suspenders, and a top hat.

So what’s the word on the romance between these two cute kids? They seem to be getting along great and spending a lot of time together, but recently said that marriage is not on the books; neither want to rush matrimony, a wise move seeing that both have been married before.

Union was married to NFL running back Chris Howard between 2001 and 2006, and Wade to his high school sweetheart Siohvaughn Funches until 2007.

“We understand that if we choose to marry again, we want it to be right,” the couple said.

According to a LivingSocial.com survey Miami is the worst city and is then followed by Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Phoenix. Surprisingly Los Angeles didn’t manage to make the Top 5 list.

In Miami 53% of respondents said women are more beautiful in their city while 38% said men were more handsome. According to one female Miami resident:

 “It’s all about your image, it’s what you’re wearing, the bag that you’re carrying, and the car you’re driving.”

On the flip side the survey also tracked the countries most insecure cities with Cleveland taking the most insecure spot followed by Dallas, Detroit, Denver, and Minneapolis/St.Paul.

Among the most popular “self improvement” surgeries conducted in Miami and other vain states were laser hair removal and waxing, , tummy tucks, collagen injections, liposuction, facelifts, breast implants, lip enhancements, butt implants, botox/dysport injections, nose jobs and hair transplants.

So the next time you’re in Miami, Florida and you see that 60 year old lady who looks like a stretched out and fake plastic 40-year-old version of her former self just remember that they all think they look good, regardless of what most other people in the country might think.

MIAMI, FL – Selina Hodges is only 28-years-old but a failing kidney forced her to spend nine hours a day on dialysis as she waited for a kidney transplant, a wait that ended this week thanks to free posting community Craigslist.

In July Hodge took to the site with a request for a kidney and she soon received a slew of media attention with responses from 800 people, one of those responses came from 23-year-old Florida resident Stephanie Grant who agreed to help Hodge by donating one of her own kidney’s.

The transplant was successfully performed on Tuesday and both women are said to be doing great.

While posting on Craigslist for a kidney might sound a little strange it’s not only legal when no money changes hands, it’s a practice that some doctors are recommending as they encourage patients to find their own organ donors willing to help. As the United Network for Organ Sharing group points out, while people in need of a kidney must wait on a long list a living organ donor can choose who they give their kidney to.

Speaking to WPBF after the transplant Hodge said:

“I’m so thankful, you know, letting me know there’s still kind-hearted people out there in the world.”

In her final revelation she noted:

“It’s like, wow, people still care.”

While taking in the sun and surf of both Miami and Los Angeles might make living in those areas worth the overcrowding and high cost of living for many residents it can also be hard to etch out a decent paying job. A recent Indeed.com study has found that those two cities are the worst in America for finding work.

The job search engine compared federal unemployment records with their own job listings to determine that in Miami there is generally four job seekers for every single job listing posted. Meanwhile in Los Angeles numbers aren’t much better with 3.48 people competing for every single job posted on the website.

When you take into consideration that many of the jobs posted are from life insurance and work at home company’s that are typically avoided by many job seekers the number of positions available per person sinks even lower.

Indeed.com isn’t the first job site to perform similar analysis, SimplyHired also found Miami to be the worst destination to find a job however they found that their were eight unemployed people for each job listed on their website.

Rounding out the top five worst cities for finding a job were Riverside, California (3.25), Las Vegas, Nevada (3.1) and Detroit, Michigan (2.75).

It should be noted that the study is only based on the number of jobs posted compared to population and job seekers, for example Detroit has far less people searching for jobs and far less jobs available. In other words Miami has a more robust economy but also has far more people actually seeking employment based on what’s available.

Running back Reggie Bush took to the press on Friday to deliver an honest and obvious message, the Miami Dolphin’s stink this season.

Speaking about his teams last minute meltdown during last weeks game which took the Dolphins to 0-6 on the regular season Reggie said:

“It’s an embarrassing loss. Had no business losing that game. We were up 15 points with what, five minutes left to go? … And we couldn’t win it? It’s disgusting. Right now, this team stinks.”

Bush’s comment wasn’t taken well by safety Yeremiah Bell, a nine-year veteran of the Dophins who chimed in:

“He stinks. … That shouldn’t be said around this locker room. We know that we’re 0-6, and we’re not playing the best. But at the same time, there’s no need for that.”

After Bush was told what Yeremiah had said he quickly responded:

“I do stink, we all stink.”

I have to agree with his “I do stink” comment, since being acquired from the New Orleans Saints during the NFL lockout Reggie Bush has managed to rack up just 377 all-purpose yards with a single touchdown to his name.

That’s not to say that Reggie plans to give anything but his best, telling reporters:

“Do we want to listen to the media and maybe lose the rest of these games and play for the first pick? Or do we want to play for a little pride here and try to turn this thing around?”

“There’s no room for sensitivity in this league. This is a man’s game, we all signed on the dotted line, and whatever we’ve been doing is not good enough at this point.”

In the meantime the Dolphins will likely end up with the first round pick they desperately need to likely draft Stanford QB Andrew Luck for next season.

Oh man this has got to hurt the old pocket book but it seems that a Florida woman has just got socked with a $201,000 cell phone bill after her two deaf-mute brothers got back from  a trip north of the US Canada border.

Apparently the brothers thought it would be a great idea to spend two weeks in Canada and as was their habit the two brothers texted each other and their sister Celina Aarons, who was still at home in Florida, as well as downloading a few videos to watch.

Unfortunately though Celina forgot to change her cell phone data plan with T-Mobile to the semi price friendly international roaming data plan which meant her usual data plan that included her brothers went a little over the normal $175 she was use to.

Like a couple hundred thousand over.

Needless to say Celina contacted T-Mobile about the bill and hopefully for a bit of a break on the amount but T-Mobile said that was her bill and they expected payment promptly. No breaks at all.

So Celina decided that even though she knew that it was only fair to have a higher than normal bill and she did make the mistake of not changing her plan T-Mobile could have been a little more considerate of the situation. Running out of alternatives she contacted her local television stations, Miami TV station WSVN, to see if maybe they could help her out with some public pressure.

Well after running the story and contacting T-Mobile the carrier agreed to lover the bill from $201,000 to $2,500 and give Celina six months to pay the bill instead of just one month.

Antwan “Big Boi” Patton, one half of the rap super group Outkast was arrested on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Miami, Florida as he exited a cruise ship. The arrest came when border patrol dogs caught him carrying several drugs which included the club drug Ecstasy and Pfizer created sexual arousal drug Viagra.

The rapper was charged with three counts of drug possession and one count of drug paraphernalia possession.

Also found on Big Boi’s person was MDMA powder, one of the active ingredients in Ecstasy which is sometimes used by therapists as a marital drug during therapy sessions.

The Viagra charge stems from the fact that Big Boi did not have a prescription for the substance.

At this time the rapper is being held on $16,000 bail which is expected to be posted by the end of the day.

Outkast has won six Grammy’s and have released six platinum selling albums including their breakout hit  ”Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” which has sold more than 10 million records worldwide.

While the group has not recorded a new record in years, collaborator “Killer Mike” recently told CNN that the group has reunited and they will soon begin recording a new album which is sure to be highly anticipated by Outkast fans around the world.

Calls and emails to Big Boi’s reps have not yet been returned to any agencies. Given the low cost of the millionaire’s bail, he’ll likely have bail posted and be back on the streets before the end of the night

Climate change might be a contentious issue with strong opinions on either side of the argument but some things are pretty well known with the fact that some areas of the United States will see a change in their land mass due to rising waters.

In a study done by the University of Arizona over 100 coastal cities are listed as those facing serious risk from rising sea levels. Miami and New Orleans alone could lose up to 10% of their coastal region by 2100.

The University of Arizona research points to global warming trends and effects in the United States that impact coastal areas inhabited by 50,000 or more people and not just those who live on or near the beach. The researchers point out that damage from sea-level rises also infiltrates through creeks, channels, adjacent low-lying areas, and inlets, which means that beach-bums are not the only ones who should be concerned.

“Our work should help people plan with more certainty and to make decisions about what level of sea-level rise, and by implication, what level of global warming, is acceptable to their communities and neighbors,” said co-author Jonathan T. Overpeck.

The researchers also found that global temperature averages will be 8 degrees warmer than they currently are by the year 2100.

“That amount of warming will likely lock us into at least 4 to 6 meters of sea-level rise in subsequent centuries, because parts of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets will slowly melt away like a block of ice on the sidewalk in the summertime,” said lead researcher, Jeremy L. Weiss.

10% Land mass loss in the future for Miami and New Orleans is a post from: The Inquisitr

A Miami man has died from a fall to the pavement after a stranger became belligerent and punched him for not having a cigarette.

Brazilian native Lisney Oliveira, 26, died early Monday morning at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center not long after the random attack, and police are hunting the man who is responsible for Oliveira’s death. Authorities say Oliveira was walking with a friend on Northeast Second Avenue and Ninth Street at around 5:30 am Monday morning, heading to a club. A man approached the two men requesting a cigarette, and when Oliveira said he didn’t have one, the stranger struck him with the ultimately fatal blow.

Police have not released the name of Oliveira’s friend, but have released CCTV footage of who they believe is the young man’s attacker shortly after the incident. Oliveira’s family, meanwhile, is mourning the senseless tragedy and remembering a man that loved life:

Oliveira’s family said he moved from southern Brazil to South Florida more than 11 years ago. He loved to go dancing and have fun, and often didn’t return home until after sunrise, said his father, Lisney Oliveira Sr.

“At least I know he lived an amazing 26 years, and he lived it intensely,” said his father in Portuguese outside their Boca Raton home on Wednesday.

In news that will surely make the folks at Apple very happy the University of Miami’s journalism department, and possibly the public relations department, has told students that they are going to have to switch to Macs whether they like it or not.

As well they are being told that they will have to cough up the money to also pick up a few new software packages. Along with that they will need to purchase audio recorders and cameras that can shoot video.

Some students will also be required to buy a software package, audio recorders and cameras able to shoot video, David Carlson, director of the college’s Center for Media Innovation and Research, said at Tuesday’s town hall.

As reporters become more mobile and self-reliant, he said, such technology is increasingly needed for reporting.

“Journalists are going to need to bring the tools to the job rather than the jobs providing it for them,” he said.

One European tourist has died and two have fallen ill with suspected Legionnaire’s disease, and a swanky Miami hotel has been evacuated.

Reports indicate that water contaminated with the deadly bacteria may be to blame at Miami’s EPIC hotel, and approximately 400 guests have been relocated while the problem is resolved. It is believed that a new, more powerful water filtration system in the hotel removed chlorine from the water as well as contaminants, allowing the dangerous Legionella bacteria to flourish. While the hotel isn’t officially closed, it has ceased accepting new reservations in a voluntary move to protect guests.

In an unrelated case, a 56-year-old Gainesville man died last week after being exposed to Legionnaire’s in contaminated water at Shands Cancer Hospital. Legionnaire’s Disease is not spread person to person, but by aspirating water carrying the bacteria. The disease has a mortality rate fluctuating from 5 to 30% of those infected.

The EPIC hotel released a statement addressing concerns about the incident:

“The EPIC Hotel has voluntarily partnered with the Miami-Dade Health Department to notify guests and staff of the possible presence of bacteria in its water system, and to engage in water remediation efforts.

“Though not currently accepting guests, the hotel remains in operation and is focused on minimizing guest inconvenience. Simultaneously, the hotel is working toward a quick and thorough resolution of the matter.

“The EPIC Hotel has taken the following precautionary measures under the guidance and direction of the health department to provide for the health and safety of its guests and staff. Steps taken thus far are as follows:

• Immediate notification and communication of precautionary measures to guests and staff
• Relocation of guests to area hotels to maximize guest care and minimize inconvenience
• Efforts underway to notify future guests booked during this time, to make alternative arrangements
• Worked together with the health department to conduct a thorough inspection of the hotel’s water system
• Proceeded with all remedial procedures in conjunction with the health department to restore full system operations

“EPIC is working towards a quick and thorough resolution to the water issue, and looks forward to welcoming its guests back as soon as possible.”

1 dead, 2 ill in Legionnaire’s outbreak at Miami hotel is a post from: The Inquisitr

Twitter is buzzing with rumors that popular Miami club dj DJ Seasunz has surrendered to police in the beating death of 18-year-old girlfriend Jaclyn Torrealba.

On Twitter and Facebook, users began tweeting and re-tweeting a plea for Jaclyn’s return:

18 year old Jaclyn Torrealba was last seen at Space Night Club on October 11 at 2am… (number redacted)

According to the Miami Herald, a man walked into a police station Sunday night, lead police to a body in his car and turned himself in to authorities for the murder. While the victim has not been publicly identified, Twitter users and commenters on the article report confirmation from Torrealba’s family that she is the victim in this case.

No comments have yet been made on DJ Seasunz’s Facebook page, and there is no official word that Torrealba has died, but many Miami locals are posting memorial tweets and condolences to the Torrealba family. We will update with details as they become available.

At least two dozen Floridian cats are believed to be victims of a sadistic cat-killer in the Miami area.

Residents of the Miami-Dade area have been advised in a recent press release by Palmetto Bay Mayor Eugene Flinn to exercise caution with their beloved feline companions.

“Residents should keep their cats inside their homes until it has been determined who or what has caused these deaths and there is no longer a threat to the feline population of the village.”

Theories regarding the nature of the killings are mixed. Some residents and local law enforcement officials blame other animals, citing reports of a roving pitbull. Other officers investigating believe a human is responsible for at least some of the killings. Further alarming residents and the law alike is the preponderance of serial killers of humans cutting their teeth on watching animals suffer and die. A resident described her horror upon finding her family pet murdered to a Tampa Bay Fox affiliate:

“We come outside, and we find Sarah lying on the ground over here…at which point, we just assumed that she was hit by a vehicle.  Half of her face was missing,” Alicia Glazer said. “There was no blood anywhere. So we are dealing with someone that is methodical, calculating, knows exactly what he or she is doing.”

Yesterday was by far the deadliest for Miami cats, seeing five cats murdered, mutilated and left in their owner’s yards.

Stephen P. Leatherman (oddly fitting last name for a dude who spends his days basking in the sun) published his annual “America’s Best Beaches” list this week. Leatherman — er, sorry, Dr. Beach — says he looked at dozens of different factors in making his selections. Everything from water quality to temperature and cleanliness to safety, he says, came into play.

Beast versus Beats, its a grudge match at the top of the food in the Miami everglades. A 13 foot Burmese python literally exploded after it bit off more than it could chew trying to swallow a six foot alligator, which was both whole and alive at the time.

The left over bits or evidence was filmed by a biologist in a helicopter.

According to wildlife experts over the last few the years, many pythons have been abandoned in the Everglades by pet owners. These pythons go on to kill the native wildlife, and it was hoped that the alligators may be able to control the python outbreak. But on this occasion it looks like a nil all draw.
