Today the Miami Dolphins fired Head Coach Tony Sparano after the team took a beating at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday.  The firing also comes on top of Miami’s dismal 4-9 record this season.  A Press Conference has been called for 4:15pm EST to make the announcement.

Several candidates are being spoken about as a replacement for the embattled coach Sparano.  Bill Cowher of Pittsburgh Steelers fame is rumored to be the teams choice even though Cowher has repeatedly said he is not going to coach next year.  Other contenders being mentioned are ESPN’s Jon Gruden, former Tennessee Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher and former Baltimore Ravens Head Coachoach Brian Billick. All three coaches have been to the super bowl with Gruden bring home a championship for Tampa Bay and Billick bringing one in for Baltimore.  Fisher brought Tennessee to the Super Bowl but lost.  Other names being floated are the New York Giants Tom Coughlin and the Philadelphia Eagles Andy Reid if either is released by their teams.

Sparano is the only NFL coach to lead his team to the playoffs a season after they had only won a single game.  Since then though the team has truly struggled on the field.  The Dolphins had been adamant all season that they were sticking with Sparano, but after the Dolphins were many games removed from a playoff spot the team changed its tune.

According to ESPN, “Assistant head coach/secondary Todd Bowles will take over the team on an interim basis”

Rumors have been circling about football circles lately that Brett Favre could be looking to make another comeback, possibly with the Miami Dolphins as their quarterback.

Considering how many times Favre has “retired” before, the rumors didn’t seem all that far-fetched but Favre shot down any hopes of that rumor coming true when he told a reporter from The Miami Herald that he didn’t “have any interest” in breaking out of retirement, nor had he heard anything of the rumors of his potential spot on the Miami Dolphins.

His word may not mean much to those who haven’t forgotten his previous attempts to retire, but Miami Herald went on to report that Favre seemed noticeably out of “NFL shape”, suggesting that he just might be telling the truth this time.

More than that, Favre has also been noticeably absent from his usual training spot near Oak Grove High School, the same spot where he would spend the summer getting into the shape for the next season. Instead, Miami Herald’s sources suggest that Favre has been spending that time vacationing in Wyoming.

Considering that the NFL season is just a little over a month away and Favre doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to get into any kind of shape to play, it looks like Brett Favre has finally decided to make good on his retirement plans.

DMX is in jail. . . again. Sigh. It looks like he’s going to have lots of material for his reality show, because he’s currently in police custody in Phoenix after being extradited from Miami. He pled guilty just two weeks ago to attempted cocaine and marijuana possession, after which he was fined $483 and sentenced to time served, but things aren’t over yet. The state of Arizona reclaimed DMX for an outstanding warrant after he skipped a court date, and he’s currently facing $25,000 bail.

Surely he’s getting low on bail funds at this point?
