Mary Kay Letourneau, who made headlines in the early 90s for an inappropriate relationship with her then 12-year-old student Vili Fualaau, is now a grandma.

Letourneau was jailed in 1996 for the offense, and sentenced to six months in prison. She was returned to prison after she was discovered by police having intimate contact with her former student in a car just two weeks after she was released. Ultimately, she had two children with Fualaau before her final 2004 release from jail. After she was freed, the two married, and Letourneau took his name.

Letourneau’s eldest son from her first marriage recently became a father, and the baby is Letourneau’s first grandchild. She commented:

“We’re both so busy with our girls. I didn’t realize how much you really have to be on your toes with teenagers,” said Letourneau.

The pair also say that they’re sometimes stopped by autograph seekers in public, which Letourneau says is “silly.” Fualauu commented on the new baby, too:

“It’s just a big joy and a blessing to have a newborn in the family,” Fualaau told KOMO News.

Mary Kay LeTourneau served 7 1/2 years in prison until her release in 2004. She’d been convicted of raping Vili Fualaau when he was 12 and she was 34.

Fualaau, now 26 and married to LeTourneau, will be the DJ at the “Hot For Teacher” event. The owner of the establishment, Fuel Sports Eats and Beats bar, tells Seattle TV station KOMO that it’s “all in fun” and he “hopes people take it in the right spirit.”

Mary Kay LeTourneau and Vili Fualaau have evidently hosted similar events at the bar before, but previous engagements were more “low-key,” reports indicate.
