In the movie Date Night Tina Fey and Steve Carrell reignite their marriage through a series of unfortunate events that nearly gets them killed. Thankfully for the rest of us a simple relaxing date with our significant other or perhaps even a night out clubbing could have the same type of effect.

A recent study has found that partners who devote one date or more a week to date nights have a higher level of communication, better sex lives and a stronger commitment to one another compared to non-date night particpating married couples.

The “Date Night Opportunity” report will be released on Tuesday by the National Marriage Project and to complete the project the group analyzed data for one-on-one couple time from two nationally representative data sets and found that wives who have couple time with their husbands at least once a week are 3.5 times more likely to enjoy above-average sexual satisfaction.

The survey examined 1,600 married couples in heterosexual relationships between the ages of 18 to 55 in one study conducted from 2010 through early 2011 and then 0,000 adults (married and cohabitating) from a study conducted from 1987 through 1994.

When combined the study’s showed that couples who spent at least one date per week together were 3.5 times more likely to report that they were “very happy” in their marriages.

The study comes during the same week in which several grassroots campaigns began promoting date nights throughout the United States.

It was previously reported all over the internet that Hollywood couple Jenifer Aniston and Justin Theroux were planning a super secret quickie wedding in Cabo, Mexico.  Well times they are a changin as the couple has now changed their plans due to the leak.  Supposedly, according to Hollywood Life, they will be tying the knot in New York City .

According to a source who dished out the plans to OK Magazine, the wedding will go a little something like this. The couple has already picked a location and have written their own vows.  After their nuptials in a private ceremony they will be having a private shindig with their friends, including Jennifer’s parents this time.  Some of the rumored guests are Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Robert Downey Jr., Chelsea Handler, “yoga guru Mandy Ingber” and Andrea Bendewald.

Jennifer will be sporting a brand new custom dress made by designer Carolina Herrera while her hair is going to be done by her long time stylist. Justin’s buddy, Terry Richardson, will be on hand to take all the photos. The reception will be a gorgeous shindig where Cristal will be the beverage of choice and the caviar will will served by the truckload.

The couple plans on heading to Mexico for the honeymoon, where they are going to spend some much need time alone.  The source told OK Magazine that  “Jen’s in a super place at the moment. She’s on an all-time high,”. I am sure Justin is having a blast too, considering his wife to be was just named “The Hottest Woman Ever To Live”.

I can promise that I know who will not be on the guest list…Angelina Jolie.

While it’s pleasing that Aguilera is a modern enough gal to get over the traditional he-asks-her proposal, the star of Burlesque could be waiting a while. Despite all her vast wealth, Rutler remains a (comparatively) poorly paid production assistant, and apparently wants to wow Aguilera with a premium rock when he pops the question.

In Touch Weekly‘s insider says Rutler intends to propose this year (25 days left, chap!), but not before he’s saved his cents for the most beautiful/vulgarly expensive ring imaginable. And unsurprisingly, it looks like poor Matt’s credit card is in line for a battering:

“He’s going to propose this year, even if he has to buy the ring on credit.”

The besotted couple began dating in November 2010, meeting on the set of Burlesque. Their relationship took off just a month after Aguilera announced her divorce from Jordan Bratman – that marriage lasted five years.

A Utah wife, for example, recently put her husband up for sale on Craigslist. His crime? Becoming addicted to Modern Warfare 3. The Xbox widow’s ad pulls the hard sell, pointing out her husband only needs food and water every few hours:

“I am selling my 22 year old husband. He enjoys eating and playing video games all day. Easy to maintain, just feed and water every 3-5 hours. You must have Internet and space for gaming. Got tired of waiting so free to good home. If acceptable replacement is offered will trade.”

Alyse Bradley says she posted the ad after her partner recently indulged in a 48-hour long gaming stretch (at once?! Surely an exaggeration). She says it left her feeling alone and ignored by the recently discharged military veteran.

Alas, she also says it was all a “joke”! Booo! Rubbish! But that’s not to say she hasn’t had a few replies, including from some opportunistic males:

“I’ve had a couple personal ads from men saying, ‘Oh I’m housebroke, I’m trained, I’ll trade him places.’”

For his part, up-for-sale husband Joseph Baddley admitted his obsession with the game “is not normal,” but said the game helped him stay connected with friends from the military. Just not his wife.

Emery Abbedl-Latif, 24, and Micha Balon, 19, were wed on Sunday morning just one month after the couple met while praying in Zuccoti Park, the temporary home for hundreds of Occupy Wall Street protesters.

The couple met while looking for a good spot to pray and instantly fell for one another. Speaking about their wedding Balon said:

“This is a good way not to make the marriage about ourselves … We are fighting for equality here.”

Balon is currently studying human rights and the Middle East while Abdel-Latif is currently thinking about attending law school.

Speaking about their quick courtship and wedding Abdel-Latif said:

“I’m not sure I believed in love before I met her.”

The couple married in a small traditional Muslim wedding right next to a bronze statue of a businessman that survived 9/11. The statue is now a memorial to those people who didn’t survive the twin towers attack and according to a friend of the couple:

 ”It was very symbolic,” and “I just wanted to cry.”

If their marriage can survive the test of time at least we know for certain one good thing came out of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

• It’s not just the U.S. where grooms and brides are tramping to the nearest chapel – The Times of India reports a colossal surge in demand for both wedding planners and obstetricians to schedule ceremonies and deliveries respectively. “It’s an attractive date, no doubt, but in numerology all digits of the date have to be taken into account; 11/11/11 is actually 11/11/2011,” says numerologist Vivek Chopra, spoiling everybody’s fun. Cate Edwards, daughter of former presidential candidate John Edwards, is due to tie the knot this coming Saturday.

Ms. Edwards, 29, will wed Dr. Trevor Upham, 30, with a reception to be held at the grand 100-acre countryside home built by her parents, not far from Chapel Hill, N.C.

The occasion will be made all the more poignant as Cate’s late mother, Elizabeth Edwards, was closely involved in early preparations for the wedding before she passed away from breast cancer, two weeks after her daughter and Trevor Upham became engaged. As Cate wrote in the November issue of Glamour magazine:

“I feel so lucky to have shared that joy with her, to have had the time to leaf through bridal magazines together and talk about the wedding. I feel blessed because, in her last weeks, she told me she was comforted to know I’d set forth on my own life path, with someone she loved and respected, and with whom she truly believed I would be happy.”

For the Edwards family, the wedding is a welcome occasion after years of turmoil. As well as the passing of Elizabeth Edwards, Cate’s father John Edwards is facing federal criminal charges of violating campaign finance laws – his trial is in January, having been postponed in part for Cate’s wedding.

While campaigning for president in 2008, Democratic senator Edwards was discovered to have had an affair that produced a daughter.

But, at least on Saturday, the Edwards have good reason to be cheery. Ms. Edwards, a lawyer, and Dr. Upham, a surgical fellow at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, met nine years ago at Princeton University, where they were brought together by their love of mathematics.

The suit, brought by one Marc Aisen, was uncovered by RadarOnline and accuses Kutcher, Moore, Madonna and other Kabbalah members of racketeering and “conspiracy to engage in a pattern of racketeering activity.”

Filed on March 29th, it states:

“Mr. Kutcher made a media circus out of his Kabbalah wedding to actress and hardcore Kabbalah cult member, Demi Moore, who is a longtime friend of the defendant Ms. Ciccone. As the ‘First Couple’ of organized Kabbalah, the ‘wedding’ presided over by defendant and alleged fraudster, Yehuda Berg — which I am pointing out again was not a private family affair, as all parties used it as a publicity stunt and invited media attention — was not a legal union, nor is the marriage according to California law. Nor is the myth that there is such a thing as a traditional Kabbalah wedding as I can’t seem to find evidence in any book that such a ceremony was ever performed in history. It was a way to put a glamorous face on the weird witches which is antisocial in their every manifestation.”

In short, it suggests that as there is no such thing as a Kabbalah wedding, Moore and Kutcher remain technically unmarried.

However, the roots of the case run deeper. It appears Aisen – who is representing himself – designed a $500 necklace for Madonna, on the proviso that she credit him when she wore it. Aisen claims Madge was photographed wearing said jewelry, but failed to give credit.

In his bid for revenge over the necklace snub, Aisen (who is not a Kabbalah follower, but Jewish) began researching Kabbalah and found:

“[...] the Kabbalah Centre is actually a militant and fanatical cult behind which is a racketeering conspiracy.”

And bingo, one lawsuit questioning just how legally binding the Kutcher/Moore union is.

Throwing a single wedding can be a stressful situation, there’s the guest lists, the flower arrangements, the food and more to plan but that hasn’t stopped Lauren and David Blair from getting hitched 100 times, albeit not with all of the hoopla surrounding a first wedding.

The Tennessee couple who met in 1982 wed for the first time in 1984 in California and set a new Guinness Book of World Record after their 66th wedding renewal. Since setting the world record the couple has continued to beat their record for the “Most Marriage Vow Renewals by the Same Couple.”

Lauren says of their decision to continually renew their vows:

“We were both in long-term relationships in the past that didn’t work out,” while adding,“We knew we were meant for each other and wanted to continually share that vow experience.”

Even with all of the wedding vow renewals Lauren says it’s still the time of her life:

“I love to look into David’s eyes as he is repeating his vows. I know that this man will love me until the day I die.”

Lauren jokes about her husband’s motives:

“David will tell you that he does it for the honeymoons!”

Marriage isn’t what it used to be. The honored tradition of a man and a woman vowing to love each other until death parts them, is so… ancient history. More and more places around the world are now allowing gay marriages and we could soon see cities, like Mexico City, allowing temporary marriage licenses.

Mexico City is currently mulling around the idea of a temporary marriage license. With half of marriages ending in divorce anyway in Mexico, a temporary marriage license could eliminate the hassle that comes with separation.

Leonel Luna, the Mexico City assemblyman who co-authored the bill, said that the minimum marriage contract would be two years. After the contract expires a couple could renew their vows or agree to go their separate ways.

Luna said:

“The proposal is, when the two-year period is up, if the relationship is not stable or harmonious, the contract simply ends… You wouldn’t have to go through the tortuous process of divorce.”

Reuters reports that the temporary marriage contract would include provisions on how to handle money, property, and children if the contract isn’t renewed. Luna says that his proposal is gaining momentum, although he admits that the church is less than supportive.

Hugo Valdemar, spokesman for the Mexican archdiocese, said:

“This reform is absurd. It contradicts the nature of marriage. It’s another one of these electoral theatrics the assembly tends to do that are irresponsible and immoral.”

New York officials are being kept busy lately due to a large increase in the number of city marriages thanks in large part to the fact that gay couples can now tie the knot in the state.

According to the New York Post since July 24 when gay marriage became legal they have accounted for one in four new marriage in New York City, although city officials have not yet confirmed that estimated gay to straight marriage ratio.

City records reveal that while marriage applications remained steady at nearly 4,200 for the same period over the last three years, they jumped dramatically in 2011 to 5,587 applications.

According to a city clerk:

“We’ve had to work extra hard to handle the increase,” while they added, “But even as same-sex marriage starts to feel routine here, everyone seems profoundly happy to be here.”

The city seems to have taken quickly to the idea of gay unions, while there have been some protests even city mayor Michael Bloomberg got in on the act, personally overseeing the wedding of the city’s first gay marriage right after the clock struck midnight on the first day in which the law was enacted. The couple Bloomberg married even happened to be a happy couple from his own office.

The first day of gay marriages was so busy that clerks offices remained open on a Sunday to help process all of the marriage certificate requests they received from gay couples.

Although marriages where the wife experiences sleep problems are affected by the nocturnal strife, those where the husband is the one tossing and turning generally don’t suffer the same stress, a new study presented at a meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies LLC (APSS) illustrates.

In a press release, the organization described the findings:

Results show that, among wives, taking longer to fall asleep at night predicted their reports of more negative and less positive marital interactions the next day, and it also predicted their husband’s reports of less positive marital interaction ratings the following day.  In contrast, husbands’ sleep did not affect their own or their wife’s report of next day’s marital interactions.

The study found that marital interactions were more likely to be affected by the previous nights sleep than a subsequent night’s sleep was to be affected by the interactions. But the males in the study’s “reports of higher levels of positive marital interactions predicted their own shorter sleep duration the next night.”

Lead researcher Wendy Troxel explains:

“We found that wives’ sleep problems affect her own and her spouse’s marital functioning the next day, and these effects were independent of depressive symptoms,” said principal investigator Wendy M. Troxel, PhD, assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh, Pa. “Specifically, wives who took longer to fall asleep the night before reported poorer marital functioning the next day, and so did their husbands.”

The study tracked 32 married couples described as “healthy,” with an average age of 32, and participants did not have any “clinically relevant” sleep, psychiatric or medical disorders. The couples were studied for sleep latency, episodes of waking after sleep onset and total sleep time for 10 nights. Electronic diaries were utilized during the study to measure the quality of marital interactions and measured against the sleep data. The study concluded that insomnia could negatively impact a marriage.

In an issue gay people would file under “problems we would like to have,” a straight British couple is going to court for the right to essentially gay-marry each other.

While some jurisdictions recognize gay marriage, and some allow “civil partnerships,” gay marriage is not a right recognized nearly as widely as same-sex marriage. But the opportunity to marry one another, a right denied gay people in many places, is not enough to satisfy the couple, both of whom are 26:

“The titles of husband and wife and all the things that pop into people’s heads when you say you’re getting married don’t appeal to us,” said (Katherine) Doyle, a student. “In our day-to-day life we feel like civil partners — we don’t feel like husband and wife, and we want the government to recognize that.”

An activist who commented on the case cited a larger motivation to have “one law for everybody,” but also implied that the fight to legalize gay marriage is somehow harmful to straight couples, roughly half of whom don’t even see fit to honor the vows they take in the first place:

“Denying heterosexual couples the right to have a civil partnership is heterophobic,” Peter Tatchell said.

As someone who has watched close gay friends genuinely suffer due to lacking the option to marry, this seems to me to be a bit of a slap in the face to the movement to legalize gay marriage. Setting the debate back to whether marriage, a mostly heterosexual institution, should even exist will only serve to delay gay people being granted equal rights as well as bolster arguments from gay marriage opponents that allowing gay people to marry somehow tears at the fabric of the institution of marriage.

Ah, weddings. Such a fun time that we usually want to remember to all eternity, or at least the divorce papers are served. Photo albums of these memorable events are treasured and shared with friends far and wide – well at least most of the time – but I am willing to bet that those of us who have walked the long lonely aisle have pictures of the hallowed event that we hope never see light of day let alone a photo album.

Danny Masterson and Bijou Phillips are getting married.

According to reports, Masterson popped the question in Los Angeles Saturday. The couple have been dating for three years.

Masterson is best known for his role in That 70’s show, while Phillips is a movie actress and the daughter of John Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas.

The couple will star in two films that will be released this year, Made for Each Other and The Bridge to Nowhere.
