Mariah Carey To Receive Breakthrough Performance Award

Mariah Carey will receive the Breakthrough Performance Award at the 21st Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The singer-and-actress will receive the coveted honor at the Californian event in January in recognition for her portrayal of a dowdy social worker in ‘Precious’.

Festival chairman Harold Matzner said, “We’re delighted to be able to present the Breakthrough Performance Award to the extraordinary, very beautiful and versatile Mariah Carey, who, in a critically acclaimed role, completely transformed herself from a glamorous music icon to a forthright social worker for the role of Ms. Weiss in Precious.”

Previous winners of the prize include Jennifer Hudson, Marion Cotillard and Freida Pinto, who all went on to win an Oscar for their performances.

Meanwhile, it has been claimed Mariah insisted on bringing her own toilet paper to a TV appearance.

The ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’ singer amazed presenters of UK TV show ‘GMTV’ with her diva-like antics, which also included being lowered onto a sofa by two people, with more members of her entourage being placed in the studio to check camera angles.

‘GMTV’ host Kate Garraway revealed in her column in New! Magazine, “I’ve heard a lot of rumors about Mariah being a diva over the years and it turns out it’s all true!

“While Mariah was very nice, the amount of people she had in her entourage was hilarious. They outnumbered the entire ‘GMTV’ crew! She had two people to lower her on to the sofa, in case her dress got crushed, one person to walk in front of her backwards at all times in case she fell over and several people behind the camera making sure she was going to be filmed from the right angle.

“Have you ever heard anything like it? Oh, and she brought her own toilet roll as well.”

Mariah Carey’s Demand For 20 White Kittens Blocked

Mariah Carey request to have 20 white kittens at a Christmas lights switch-on has been blocked.

The diva reportedly wanted the young felines and 100 white doves to accompany her at the extravagant switch-on ceremony at Westfield shopping centre, in west London.

She also requested to be showered with butterfly-shaped confetti, her favorite insect, while standing on a pink podium and waving a magic wand.

The American singer will arrive in a Rolls-Royce car and be accompanied by 80 security guards as well as her 15-strong entourage.

But while most of her demands have been met, health and safety officials refused her request to have kittens and doves, because animals are not allowed inside the complex.

A source told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, “We did manage to source the doves that we were going to release into the sky, but the kittens proved terribly difficult.

“In the end, it was made clear that due to health and safety, there was no way we could have the animals at Westfield. Pets are not allowed in Westfield, that rule would apply for everyone.

“We have worked extremely hard to make sure that Mariah’s event is fantastic. Even the model of car had to be changed six times to one that her people liked.”

The ‘Hero’ singer, who is appearing on UK TV talent show ‘The X Factor’ this weekend, recently admitted she loves being a diva, but doesn’t think she is demanding enough.

She said, “You know what? I guess I am a diva in many ways! When it comes to certain things, yes, I can be difficult and a little bit rigid about what I want.

“Am I demanding? I don’t think I’m demanding enough.”

Mariah Carey Reveals She Was Emotionally Abused

Mariah Carey has been abused.

The ‘Obsessed’ singer, who married actor-and-rapper Nick Cannon in 2008, has spoken out about how she has been affected by the struggle she faced in previous relationships and hinted her ex-husband Tommy Mottola was responsible for her ordeal.

She said, “Abuse has several categories. Emotionally, mentally, in other ways. I just think you get into a situation and you feel locked in. If your situation is similar to one of the situations I’ve been in, which I won’t harp on. For me, to really get out, it was difficult because there was a connection that was not only a marriage but a business thing where the person was in control of my life.”

Mariah wed music executive Tommy in 1993 after he signed her to the music label CBS Records. They separated just three years later and divorced in 1998.

The 40-year-old beauty also spoke out in support of ‘Rehab’ singer Rihanna, who was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown earlier this year following a pre-Grammy’s party.

Mariah admitted she can empathize with the 21-year-old starlet’s experience of domestic abuse.

She told US TV talk show host Larry King, “I was very sequestered, as you know, when I first started out and if I were just allowed to be young and with a young boyfriend who’s also a star and you know, you’re working and you’re both, I don’t know what goes on. You know what I mean? So it’s like, I wasn’t really allowed out of the house, so I can’t imagine what she went through.”

Meanwhile, the singer-turned-actress says she is desperate to have children with Nick, but is waiting for a gap in her career.

She explained, “Being pregnant would be the happiest thing in my life, but what I’m saying is right now with this movie ‘Precious’ coming out, with the next few singles from the album and those things that I’m doing, I need to focus on that because I cannot do the having-a-child thing halfway.”

Mariah Carey Gives Hope Through Songs

Mariah Carey uses “uplifting” songs to help troubled fans.

The ‘Hero’ hitmaker stars in harrowing movie ‘Precious’ based on best-selling novel ‘Push’ about an obese teenager who has two children through incestuous rape, and believes her music has helped girls in similar situations to the main character.

She said, “There are a lot of girls that I see at my shows that may fit the description of what people might think a ‘Precious’ girl is. When I sing certain songs, you really see that it brings out emotions in them.

“I see tears of gratitude or joy because they relate to the message. So that’s why I continue to do songs that I feel will be uplifting.”

Mariah, who plays a social worker in the film, said she could relate to the plight of the characters in ‘Push’, but it also made her more aware of other people’s suffering.

She added to Parade magazine, “I guess the button that the story pushed in me would be just empathy. I mean your heart has to go out to Precious because she is going through so much. It touched me as a woman. It touched me just as a person.

“It’s like you think, ‘Maybe I’ve walked past someone who is a girl like this and not really focused on them or just totally ignored them.’

“And it’s also one of those things where you relate something in yourself, your own feelings of doubt and negativity. And while you haven’t suffered nearly as much, you know what you’ve gone through is similar.”

The 40-year-old singer was devastated when Jack Russell terrier Cha Cha had an accident as she was getting ready to perform.

Mariah – who is due to perform in Las Vegas on Friday (September 11) and Saturday (September 12) – wrote on her Twitter page: “OK so Cha Cha just peed on the floor in my dressing room and then decided to jump on top of me as I am doing my make-up. ‘Real classy’ here.”

It is believed Mariah was practicing for her upcoming shows when the toilet trouble occurred.

The ‘Obsessed’ singer’s husband Nick Cannon gave her the mutt to celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary in May.

Mariah is not the first celebrity to suffer the embarrassment of an animal urinating on her.

Katy Perry was mortified when a monkey relieved itself on her during a magazine shoot.

She said: “Jeremy Scott is one of my all time favourites and he shot the pictures while I got to prance around in his creations. I had a chimp on set with me that day. Fun fact, she peed all over me, I had to take a shower in the middle of shooting.”

Nick Cannon is furious with the rapper for recording the track ‘The Warning’, in which he crudely talks about his brief relationship with Mariah in 2001, and has posted several bible verses on his Twitter page attacking Eminem.

Nick wrote: “Quote of the day, ‘Never argue with fools because from a distance people can’t tell who is who.’ ” He later added: “Never take your own revenge, but rather give place unto the
wrath. For it is written vengeance is mine, I will repay… PREACH! ‘I will bless those that bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse.’ Genesis 12:3.”

Nick’s response continued: “Be patient in the moment of anger and escape a hundred days of sorrow! People who project negativity ultimately are crying out for their own broken souls. Trying to save a hater is like trying to teach astrophysics to a wino!”

In ‘The Warning’ – recorded as a response to Mariah dressing up as Eminem in the video for her song ‘Obsessed’ – the hip-hop star talks graphically about his relationship with Mariah and threatens to leak intimate voice messages and pictures of them together.

Lyrics to Eminem’s ‘The Warning’ include: “B***h, shut the f**k up before I put all them phone calls out you made to my house. “Better shut your lying mouth if you don’t want Nick finding out. You probably think since it’s been so long if I had something on you I woulda did it by now.

“On the contrary, Mary Poppins, I’m mixing our studio session down and sending it to mastering to make it loud. Enough dirt on you to murder you. Mariah, it ever occur to you that I still have pictures? Call my bluff and I’ll release every f***ing thing I got including the voicemails right before you flipped your top.”

He goes on to describe intimate details about their sexual exploits, mentions her by name several times and brands her a “w***e” and “alcoholic”.

Mariah has previously insisted she is not mocking Eminem in her ‘Obsessed’ promo, saying: “Everybody started having their own speculations about who the stalker in the video was. When I look at that stalker and me with the beard, I look like my brother and my cousin Chris. So basically, you know, all the speculation about who I’m playing in the video, it’s not accurate.”

Mariah Carey performed the Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There” at Michael Jackson’s memorial at the staples center earlier, with Jackson’s casket just a few feet away on stage.

Carey covered “I’ll Be There” on her 1992 album, Unplugged, and it became a number 1 hit for her. In the original version, Michael Jackson and his brother, Jermaine shared lead vocals on the song.

During Carey’s performance, Jermaine was seen singing along with her as members of the audience at the Staples center wept.

Mariah Carey’s Diva Demands Revealed

Mariah Carey managed to whip out her diva ways even during a huge moment in history, reports Page Six. Sources say that she was “furious” when she found out that she was not going to be seated with the Obama family during the inauguration (erm, duh?). Yes, a source claims that she just as delusional as most of us suspected:

“Mariah was in the VIP area, where every celebrity, like Jon Bon Jovi, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and Bruce Springsteen, was seated. But somehow she thought she’d be up with the Obama family. When she realized she wasn’t, she bailed.”

Supposedly Mariah wasn’t the only one who was pissed about placement. Sean Combs was also rumored to be irritated when he discovered that his presence wasn’t as big of a deal as Jay-Z’s, although his rep said that “It was one of the greatest moments of his life. Sean was invited to the inauguration and was seated third row, with Jay-Z, at the ceremony.”

Get over yourselves!

Mariah Carey re-records Hero: war crimes charges to follow

Mariah Carey has re-recorded and re-released Hero, her most famous song, the song that makes normally sane people want to take dull, rusty, blunt objects and never mind.

The re-release is quite different to the original and has fans in a flap. Fans are bitterly divided with some calling the re-record sh*t and inquiring as to Mariah’s health.

If you are brave enough to to listen to it, please remove your shoe laces and any sharp objects prior to pressing play.

Let me know what you think is it a) crapper than the original b) margianlly less crap than the orginal or c) who cares its a sh*t song.

Singer Mariah Carey had been slammed by a scientist for her use on E=MC2 as an album title.

Carey used E=MC2 as meaning “emancipation equals Mariah Carey times two,” but wouldn’t you know it, that’s not what it stands for!

Mathematician Dr David Leslie told the BBC the singer had “misread the algebra”, adding: “The ‘two’ in the equation means C squared, not MC multiplied by two, reports Gigwise.

“The correct reading of the equation is E=MCC, so perhaps Mariah’s re-interpretation should have been ‘emancipation equals Mariah Carey Carey’?”

Mariah Carey Cancels Tour, Ruins People’s Holidays

… And is SO pregnant. Recent reports have confirmed that Mariah Carey decided to cancel her upcoming tour yesterday without much explanation. That’s because the real reason is that she’s probably expecting! The evidence is just stacking up. I can’t wait to see Mariah’s maternity gear; it’s going to be so spangly and stretchy (and scary).

A source claims that “Costume designers and dancers were all called Wednesday and told the tour is off. Most were hysterically crying because they were relying on her for a paycheck this holiday season.”

The rep is still either in the dark or playing a game, because she said that “I have not been told she’s pregnant,” and that the tour was only discussed.

Mariah Carey’s fueling pregnancy rumors with her recent visit to the ob-gyn, complete with a suspicious slip of paper. It turns out that last year when Minnie Driver was pregnant, she was seen carrying an identical paper from the same doctor’s office, and now Page Six is on the “L.A. Paper Trail.”

An observer told Richard Johnson that Mariah left the North Crescent Boulevard location “clutching what looked like a sonogram and being greeted by her entourage with cheers. She was ebullient.”

Even the rep sounded unsure this time, commenting that “As far as I’m told it’s not true.” (Emphasis mine.) See? Even the rep didn’t really know– Mariah is way too coy to reveal the news yet. Stay tuned!

Mariah Carey The Musical

Mariah Carey’s life story is set to be made into a musical.

Mariah has reportedly attracted attention from a big name in the theatre industry who wants to create a Broadway show based on her.

According to a source quoted by Hollywood Rag: “A huge, huge Broadway producer is interested in Mariah’s story and it’s in discussions. Who would turn down an opportunity like that? Mariah has a fascinating life.”

The stage show is set to feature some of Carey’s most highly publicized troubles including her divorce arguments with record producers and her reported physical and emotional breakdown.

Some how I think I’m going to pass on seeing it when it comes out, although if the musical was only from her first album, where she actually showed singing talent, I might reconsider.

Is Mariah Carey Pregnant?

A little tummy-holding and here you go: Mariah Carey launched pregnancy rumors as she wandered around Mexico on a love trip with hubby Nick Cannon this past weekend. She does know how to stay relevant (mostly while wearing throwback ’80s clothes), but perhaps this is it!

Normally I wouldn’t give these shots a second thought, but then I realized she wasn’t wearing the smallest thing she could get her hands on. When was the last time you saw her covering up her midriff and legs at the same time? Seriously.

Mariah Carey returns to the silver screen in December, teaming up with Ethan Peck and Adam Rothenberg in Tennessee.

The movie revolves around two brothers, Carter and Ellis, who embark on a journey from New Mexico to find their estranged father in the hopes of saving Ellis, who has been diagnosed with terminal leukemia. Along the way they meet Krystal (Carey), an aspiring singer who joins them on their journey.

The official Tennessee trailer was release dtoday, and can be viewed below. The movie is due out in December.

Mariah Carey Wants Us to Design Her Dress

Mariah Carey’s looking for people to design her a “luscious pink” dress (gag) in a partnership with Elizabeth Arden. The chosen design might benefit Breast Cancer Awareness, but couldn’t they have found a celeb who doesn’t look like she steals clothes from teenagers?

Mariah’s on the panel of judges along with “fashion experts,” but I have a feeling Mimi Will Get Her Way. I’m going to help the designers out: make it short, make it lycra, and make it boring! Done.

Mariah Carey Will Be Back on the Big Screen

Mariah Carey did not take her Razzie Award for her Glitter performance to heart– she’s going to be back in December in Tennessee. To refresh your memory, this was the film that prompted Mariah to buy out all the economy class tickets on a plane in order to travel. Have her diva ways improved? Probably not, but let’s hope that her acting skills have. Star reports:

Vivendi Entertainment has acquired domestic distribution rights for Mariah’s road trip drama Tennessee, which premiered last spring at the Tribeca Film Festival. The drama is about two money-challenged brothers who take to the road to resolve their economic and health challenges. Along the way they meet a waitress — played by the one and only Mariah — whose dreams of a singing career have been dashed by a bad marriage.

Are you ready for this one? I might dare to see it, since it’s been seven years since Mariah’s Razzie, and I feel like she deserves another chance. Then again, I also love trainwrecks, so I’ll be happy either way.

All Right, Who Did Mariah Have to Pay?

Usually celebs get heaps of cash for selling all their private wedding pics, but there’s something amiss about this whole hoopla surrounding Mariah’s marriage to Nick Cannon. Yes, we get it. It was a surprise. But what was the deal with Oprah today? She basically had a mini meltdown on her show about Mariah’s “secrets” and her “Mrs. Cannon” tattoo, complete with intense finger shaking and the skinny from Gail via satellite.

Okay, Oprah, the earth still turns. Mariah’s married, okay? (Although for how long is another question entirely.) Plus we can’t forget about the slideshow of all the “Exclusive” photos splashed across People (available Friday, everyone!). Ew.

The good news is that Vibe mag is probably raking in runoff sales right now, even if they did scoop the wrong story.
