“We have tried to maintain a dignified silence regarding the details of our divorce for the last few months whilst accepting the obvious media interest. A misleading and inaccurate statement, specifically in relation to the sums of money involved, was wrongly issued…this week.”

E! says this new release is an attempt to “play down the exorbitant figures” of their settlement. Some think that Madonna was secretly getting back at Guy, and that Ritchie hit back at reported figures that were ”far too high.” 

The joint statement officially states “The financial details of the settlement will remain private, save to say that both of us are happy with our agreement.”

And on to the custody battle! Of course, they’ll be “happy” with whatever is decided– publicly, that is.

If this is true, then I don’t blame Guy Ritchie for getting as far away from Madge as possible: according to The Sun, Madonna used a “marriage contract” to “control him.” It sounds weird, but it gets weirder:

“The document detailed how many dates the couple should go on and how often they should have sex.

It stated that Guy had to ‘work to enrich his wife’s emotional and spiritual wellbeing’ and ordered him to devote several hours a week to reading Kabbalah texts with Madge. It even had instructions on what words Guy should use during rows ‘to resolve conflicts in a constructive way.’”

It’s a joke, though, right? It sounds like something that would never be enforced (because it’s entirely too ridiculous), but one source even told The Sun that when Guy would deviate from said guidelines, Madonna would simply say “Contract, Guy, contract.”

Guy is probably the happiest guy ever right now. He’s learning to play the guitar and live without The Rules.

That whole “not settling without a fight thing” makes a lot more sense.

Madonna’s going to have to call in the big guns to deal with her upcoming divorce from Guy Ritchie, and it makes sense with no pre-nup and lots at stake. After the initial shock of divorce news, it’s come to light that Madonna has hired Fiona Shackleton, the lawyer who represented both the Prince of Wales and Sir Paul McCartney (and managed to whittle down Heather Mills’ payout significantly).

Liz Rosenberg, Madonna’s representative, has stated that Madonna and Guy want “respect” while the deal with the sh*tstorm, but “insists that relations between them are still cordial, saying that they expected to agree a divorce settlement without going through the courts.”

With a joint fortune of £300 million, my eyebrow is raised about that last bit.
