I`m not a fan of the Legend of Zelda game franchise but I am a chess player who would love to have this awesome handcrafted chess set made up from the characters found in the Zelda games. Even though Ben Howard of Fizz Man Industries went more for the cartoony version of the Zelda characters it doesn`t lessen the want factor in the slightest.

Even the pawns are individual Zelda characters so it is no wonder it took Howard three months to create this beautiful chess set.

I’ve previously posted at least one a-m-a-z-i-n-g Princess Zelda cosplay, but what’s a Zelda without her Link? So here we go, the best Link cosplay I’ve ever seen. The kid in the pictures is, of course, Saria, Link’s childhood best friend who appears early on in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time:

It’s kind of an unwritten rule where Zelda games are concerned: in the 24 years the series has been about, hero Link has never been heard speaking (those dreadful CD-i games aside). Sure, he’ll grunt as he chops through grass or “Hiii-yaaaahhh!!” when slashing up an enemy, but generally speaking, he’s a mute.

I love Zelda games for that. Many great game heroes have been silent (Link, Gordon Freeman, Chell, Samus Aran), and all the better for it. And thankfully, it’s not going to change in Link’s case.

Speaking to Nintendo Power, series director Eiji Aonuma confirmed that Link would remain the strong, silent type in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, due out on Wii next year:

“Personally, I don’t want to have Link speak in the game. We haven’t had him talk at all up to this point. It’s part of the series history. It would just, to me, break the image of Link to have him speak. In terms of other characters, if Link never talks and everybody else in the game is chatting and whatnot I also think that’s sort of an off mixture, so it’s not something that, to be honest, I’ve really thought I want to be superactive about or I’ve really pressed for it. It just hasn’t come up to me personally.”

Good for you, Aonuma. Even though some may see text boxes as dated, we all know videogames have barely ever done voice-acting well. Until the perfect voice is found, I’m more than happy to keep reading my Zelda dialogue.

Do you possess the artistic flair and steady hand of a highly-strung gibbon? Yeah, join the club.

For non-artists like you and I, fellow sufferer, Hallowe’en is a dreaded time. While our talented, artistic friends carve majestic pumpkins, we produce quite pathetic whittlings. Every year, we sheepishly show up with the most clumsily cut jack-o’-lantern at our respective Hallowe’en gatherings. Rejected, we become pumpkin pariahs.

But no longer! Somebody on the Internet called Susan has come to our rescue with a whole batch of free gaming-themed pumpkin templates. Thanks, Susan. Some of these are based on game characters, so I thought I’d give her a plug and direct you here before you set blade to fruit.

That Link isn’t the best (though still way better than I can manage), but I think we can safely say the Bowser, Luigi, and Megaman are splendid.
