Lily Allen Gets On-Board In Music Piracy

Lily Allen has made a U-turn in her stance on music piracy.

The ‘Not Fair’ singer, who launched a scathing attack on illegal file-sharing on her MySpace blog and attacked indie group Radiohead for giving their latest album away on a pay-what-you-want basis, claims she doesn’t care if people copy her albums and sell them on for a profit.

Lily, 24, told UK radio station Key 103 Radio: “If someone comes up with a burnt copy of my CD and offers it to you for £4, I haven’t a problem with that as long as the person buying it places some kind do of value on my music.”

In Lily’s original blog post she said downloading was starving up-and-coming artists of money they need to keep producing music, and attacked the Featured Artists Coalition (FAC) – whose members include Travis singer Fran Healy, Blur drummer Dave Rowntree and Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien.

She wrote, “I’m going to be writing to British artists, saying just this: File sharing’s not OK for British music. We need to find new ways to help consumers access and buy music legally, but saying file sharing’s fine is not helping anyone and definitely not helping British music.”

The FAC recently called for the British government to abandon proposals to cut off the internet connections of people who illegally download music.

Lily Allen: Life’s All About Drink and Drugs

Lily Allen says that drink and drugs are “what life’s all about”.

The 24-year-old singer who celebrated her Q Award win for Best Track for single ‘The Fear’ at a pub with rockers The Cribs and Edwyn Collins after the London ceremony on Monday October 26, insists you would take the fun out of life if you never got intoxicated.

The ‘Not Fair’ star is quoted by Britain’s Daily Star newspaper as saying, “Why the hell would you give up booze? No drinking until Christmas, yeah right? Drink and class A drugs – that’s what life’s all about.”

Lily also revealed her new man Sam Cooper, who attended the star-studded ceremony with her, is putting a smile on her face.

She said, “Everything is great. I’m really happy – he makes me really happy. We’re having a good time.”

Lily has previously admitted she partied a little too hard when she first shot to fame in the pop world.

She said, “If you’d come to my place two years ago, I wouldn’t have been up before midday. There would have been half-empty vodka bottles everywhere, drugs, whatever. But loads of people take drugs and then get up and work, you can never say never.”

Lily Allen Gets Writer’s Block

Lily Allen is quitting music because she has nothing else to write about.

The ‘Fear’ singer, who recently announced she was retiring from singing, says she plans to take an indefinite break from the pop world, but may return in the future.

She told BANG Showbiz, “I’m definitely taking a break. I’ve been on the road for nearly five years so I’m tired and I need a break. I’ve written about just about everything that’s happened in my life so I feel like I need to go out and live a little bit more and then I’ll see what I’m going to do.”

Since announcing her retirement, the 24-year-old star – who won Best Track for her single ‘The Fear’ at the Q Awards in London yesterday October 26, has been rumored to have landed a role in ‘Reasons to be Pretty’, a stage production in London’s West End.

Although she wouldn’t confirm the speculation, the star says she is open to anything during her hiatus.

She said, “I might be doing the play, it isn’t confirmed yet. I’m just keeping all my options open.”

Lily Allen’s boyfriend has surprised her with a $2,980 bracelet.

Builder Sam Cooper who has been dating the ‘It’s Not Fair’ singer since July, splashed out the huge sum on the lavish vintage bangle as a romantic treat after she fell in love with it during a holiday in Venice, Italy.

A source said, “Lily spotted an amethyst and sapphire bracelet and said she loved it. The next day Sam sneaked off and bought it as a surprise.”

As well as spoiling her with expensive gifts, the 44-year-old builder is also encouraging Lily, 24, to pursue an acting career.

He reportedly said, “She would rock as an actress!”

The couple have grown increasingly smitten over recent months.

Earlier this week, Lily revealed Sam’s compliments have helped boost her self-esteem.

She said, “I’m so confident and happy in myself now. My boyfriend tells me that I’m beautiful and that he loves me all the time. He says my butt is fabulous and that’s all I need.”

Lily Allen is set to move in with her new boyfriend.

The 24-year-old singer is keen to take her romance with builder Sam Cooper to the next level, and has already started looking around London properties with him.

A source said, “They have made inquiries about several terraced properties in Primrose Hill in London and it’s thought that as well as acting in 2010, one of the investment areas Lily’s looking at moving into is property.”

Lily, who began dating Sam earlier this year, is keen to buy a place which is in need of renovation so Sam can show off his DIY skills.

The source added to Britain’s Daily Express newspaper, “Sam’s brilliant at planning and design so it makes sense for him to advise on any business ventures. They’re so into each other, it’s very sweet.”

Lily recently revealed she can’t wait to settle down and start a family, and believes having children will be her biggest accomplishment.

She said, “People think I’m this super-confident person who’s all for female empowerment but it’s not true.

“I have every intention of becoming a suburban mum. I want to get married and have children.

“Being followed by the paparazzi is not a life I want.”

Lily Allen Blasted by Reverend

Lily Allen has been blasted for “getting her nipples out and being political”.

The Reverend and the Makers frontman Jon McLure, nicknamed The Rev, hit out at the singer for her stance against file sharing, insisting she should campaign for bigger issues.

He told BANG Showbiz, “We’ve got war in Iraq, Afghanistan, bankers are taking the p**s, plus we’re melting the ice caps. There’s a lot to be angry about.

“What upsets me is last week Lily Allen came out and said, ‘We’ve got to campaign against file sharing. We’re going to tell politicians to shut down kids’ internets.’ What a crying shame it is that all you can get angry or upset about is kids taking your music.

“The thing with Lily is, I think when you get your nipples out in a magazine and you’re trying to make serious political comment with the government, you’re putting yourself in a silly position.”

The rocker urged the 24-year-old ‘Smile’ singer to reevaluate her priorities and put her public profile to better use.

He added, “I stole Lily Allen’s album and there’s nothing she can do about it. People think I’m a communist because I’ve got these views, but I’m not. I’m not saying people can’t earn a living, but let’s be fair. You’ve got millions of pounds, there’s things happening that are far more important than that.”

Lily Allen to Duet with Donovan

Lily Allen is set to duet with Donovan.

The legendary 60’s singer/songwriter wants the ‘Not Fair’ singer to appear alongside him when he tours next year.

He told BANG Showbiz, “Lily Allen I like, yeah sure, all the young boys and girls that are coming up with their own songs. Singer songwriters I love. It would be great to play live with her.”

When asked if he was planning a collaboration with Lily, he replied, “I’m hoping to do so on my tour – there will be an open invitation to young songwriters in the capitals of the world I’m playing in to join me onstage so I can highlight what they’re doing.”

Donovan also revealed he prefers working with female musicians and is looking forward to discovering new talent when he is on the road.

The ‘Mellow Yellow’ singer added, “I collaborate mostly with girls because of the goddess aspect. The girls work better with me than the boys. There are many throughout the world which I am going to discover I am sure.”

Donovan, who was friends with The Beatles at the height of their fame, was honoured at the BMI London Awards on Tuesday October 6, where he picked up the BMI Icon accolade for his songwriting skills.

Not a Surprise: Lily Allen “Definitely Not” Retiring from Music

Days after the ‘Fear’ singer, Lily Allen, announced she was quitting the music industry, the 24-year-old star has revealed plans to tour with ‘Bonkers’ rapper Dizzee Rascal next March.

Tickets for the shows at Manchester’s MEN Arena on March 5, and at The 02 arena in London on March 7, go on sale Friday October 9, with further dates expected to be announced in the coming days.

In an entry on her new blog called It’s Not Alright, which aims to stop people file sharing music on the internet, Lily said last week that she had no plans to tour or record again.

She wrote, “Just so you know, I have not renegotiated my record contract and have no plans to make another record. I do, however, remain a fan of new music, so this is not some selfish crusade.

“The days of me making money from recording music has been and gone as far as I’m concerned, so I don’t stand to profit from legislation. Except future purchases of previously recorded material.”

Lily deleted the blog shortly afterwards and claimed she is now focusing on her appearance in a London theatre production called ‘Reasons to be Pretty’, which follows a group of working-class people who are bored with their lives.

The singer’s spokesperson played down her claims, saying, “She is not quitting pop music and is still promoting her current album, which is why she said she is not thinking ahead to another record.”

However, it is not the first time Lily has voiced her desire to give up her music career.

Earlier this month, she said, “I’m not going record and tour again for quite a while.”

Lily Allen Shit Herself on Stage, Couldn’t Happen to a Nicer Person

Lily Allen once performed live despite having chronic diarrhea.

Lily Allen’s worst on-stage experience was when she fell ill with a stomach bug during a show in the US and shit herself on stage.

According to reports, she was so desperate not to disappoint fans she refused to go backstage and visit a bathroom until she had finished the full set.

She explained to Q magazine, “The worst was being on stage in Seattle two years ago and I came down with diarrhea but I still went on. I was desperate for a poo the whole way through. At the end of the show I went to the toilet and it would not stop.

“The crowd were going, ‘Lily! Lily!’, for an encore. I didn’t feel I could send anyone out and say, ‘Will you lot shut up, she’s having a c**p’, but that was the truth.”

Lily is not the only musician to suffer from an upset stomach during a show.

Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt was so unwell during a concert at the Giants Stadium in New Jersey which seats 80,000 people, he soiled himself on stage.

He revealed, “I had stomach flu or something, I came down from a jump and was like, ‘That’s not good!’ I was throwing up before I went on.”

After the smelly mishap a bucket was placed at the side of the stage which Mike used as a toilet seven times during the show.

It’s okay for Lily Allen to pirate but anyone else is scum

There’s a number of great posts today about the whole music piracy nonsense. However none come close to show the hypocrisy of the music business’s so-called war against piracy than the whole Lily Allen crap-fest that has hit the blogosphere today.

It all centers around a post on Allen’s recently launched blog, It’s Not Alright, where she attempts to take rapper 50 Cent to task over his recent interview on CNBC where he suggested that piracy is really just part of the music business. I say attempts because her argument would actually mean something if she hadn’t stolen it – word for word – from a post by Michael Masnick of Techdirt.

Masnick responded to the whole thing with a post today and like him I am having a really hard time making any sense of her incoherent reasoning of who she seems to think is affected by piracy. In the paragraph she mentions recording studio people, website builders, designers and last but not least the kids who put up posters.

Excuse me?

Exactly what do any of those people have to do with being affected by piracy. Every single example she uses are people who get paid for their service regardless of whether some musician’s music is pirated or not. Not one of them is paid using the recording companies highly questionable percentage basis as the musicians are. They get cash on the barrelhead – period.

So not only does Allen show that she has absolutely no couth when it comes to other people’s “copyrights” – I guess because it was a blogger they don’t count – but she shows that she doesn’t seem to understand some basic economics of paying for services rendered.

Do yourself a favor Lily Allen – shut up and leave the discussion about music and the bullshit around piracy to those who actually know what they are talking about, not what their manager or record company pumps up their ass.

Lily Allen is to star in a play

Lily Allen has accepted the lead role in Neil LaBute’s London production of ‘Reasons To Be Pretty’ and wants to take a break from pop music because she is worn out.

Speaking backstage at the Bestival music festival – which takes place on the Isle of Wight – on Saturday (12.09.09), Lily said: “I’m not going to record and tour again for quite a while.

“The play is about themes close to my heart, about the really damaging cult of beauty among young girls. They want me to play the lead, which is both amazing and terrifying.”

The 24-year-old singer – who has previously hosted her own talk show and made a cameo in long-running Australian sitcom ‘Neighbours’ – is even having acting lessons at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) to prepare for her new West End role.

She said: “There’s a lady from RADA coming round to my house to train me up a bit. I’m always up for a new challenge.”

Lily Allen thought she would have to have “her legs cut off” after falling on her coccyx

Lily Allen cried throughout a concert in Helsinki, Finland, last month, because she was in so much pain after tripping over during an evening out.

The 24-year-old star said: “It really was the most painful thing ever. It was really horrible, because I had one of my security guys with me, and he said he turned around and just saw these two feet sticking out of the floor, in the air.

“You know when you fall over your natural reaction is to get straight back up again? But I was in so much pain I thought I was paralysed or something. I mean, I really thought that I was going to have to have my legs cut off.”

Lily fell while watching two DJ friends working. She was “crouching” behind the decks so other partygoers wouldn’t see she was there when she slipped and fell backwards off the stage.

She explained to Absolute Radio’s Geoff Lloyd: “They basically gave me what I can describe as like an epidural, and yes, it numbed from my knees to my lower back to get through this show.

“But then half-way through the performance the thing started running out and I just burst into tears on stage. It was so horrible. I was sobbing real toddler tears.”

Lily Allen is jealous of other female singers

Lily Allen finds it difficult when she hears people getting excited about other women’s music as she worries it means she will be forgotten.

She explained: “I get pangs of jealousy when I hear people like radio presenters getting really excited about new music. I kind of feel like, ‘Oh, I’m just fading.’

“I don’t feel I am in competition with all the other girls. I really feel this is the year of the girl, with La Roux and Little Boots and Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine.

“Who I really love is La Roux. She’s a friend as well. I find it quite difficult getting on with a lot of my female competitors but I really, really like her.”

Despite releasing her first single in 2006 and enjoying both critical and commercial success, Lily claims she still struggles with fame.

The 24-year-old singer finds it hard to deal with strangers on a daily basis because she doesn’t want to disappoint them.

Lily – who has clashed with paparazzi on several occasions – told Britain’s Elle magazine “I get quite shy and embarrassed, actually. I get embarrassed when people come up and ask for autographs. I find it odd when people say, ‘Can I have your autograph?’ because, why do you want my autograph? I really can’t figure it out.

“I think people expect you to have a certain sense of decorum, but I almost find it like being a nursery teacher, having to be nice to people all the time. I haven’t got a problem with that, but I think people expect you to know how to deal with s**t.”

Liam Gallagher and Lily Allen get blind drunk on flight to Japan

The Oasis frontman – who had been drinking champagne in the Upper Class lounge at London’s Heathrow airport ahead of boarding the Virgin Atlantic flight last Wednesday (22 July) – and the ‘Fear’ singer spent most of their time on board drinking together, despite the best efforts of their entourage, who had warned cabin crew as they boarded to “keep those two apart”.

A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “They did not care about the other passengers. They were in a world of their own.

“They were already well-oiled by the time they came on board. There is obviously a different set of rules for celebrities.”

Staff on the plane allegedly had to repeatedly tell the duo to “calm down” and stop swearing.

Following the flight, the pop star pair continued their fun as they touched down in Japan – where Oasis and Lily were performing at the Fuji Rocks festival.

Liam later admitted the trip had been a good one, writing on his Twitter page: “Just landed in Tokyo. That flight flew by.”

Lily used her page on the social networking website to say: “At Lost in Translation hotel in tokyo. Had an extraordinary amount of fun the past few days, and now ive got 2 weeks off. EPIC (sic).”

Liam, 36, has a history of drunken behavior on planes.

In 1998, he was banned from Cathay Pacific airlines for life after passengers on a Hong Kong to Perth flight complained about his drunken and offensive behavior, which was reported to include smoking, swearing and throwing objects at staff.

Liam – who had been threatened by the captain that he would be arrested upon landing – later claimed he had done nothing wrong and had only wanted “a scone”.

Lily Allen is back with a slightly less expletive ridden follow up to the single “Fuck You” with the song 22.

In true Allen style 22 makes a strong social statement, although without having read the lyrics I can’t be sure what it is. Something about cheap sluts trying to find true love…or something like that.

The pics are scans from the August issue of i-D, and feature Lily topless as a post-apocalyptic Playboy bunny, lolling in a towel on a hotel balcony in a very Bardot-esque way, and then just standing there in a… panda suit.

Is that for furries? Not quite sure, but the rest of the scans are cute and sexy. And as they’re stills, she never wrecks it by opening her big stupid mouth!

Lily Allen has decided to give a serious finger to a pile of people with her new single F&ck you. If you’re offended by language don’t read on because no more %^@ from this point on.

Fuck You was originally a song about the anti-immigration British National Party, but Allen claims that it just became a general Fuck You to lots of people. The lyrics to Fuck You includes references in particular to homophobia.

The video clip is borderline trippy, with Allen never shone, but altering various images. How this related to Fuck You is not clear.

Lily Allen claims music pirates killing new talent

Lily Allen, not exactly well known for her mental capacity, has attacked fans that spend millions of seeing her perform live, but don’t pay for her music online.

According to Allen, internet piracy is depriving the music industry of new talent.

“If what the consumer wants is good music, then they are going to have to start paying for it.” says Allen. “The music industry is run by a bunch of fucking idiots and if you’re giving those people less money they are going to invest in bands that aren’t very good. The more money there is in the industry, the more they are going to have to invest in quality bands.”

That makes pure sense: music labels who make bad decisions make better decisions with more money, despite them already rolling in billions. Got that

“There are people really struggling to make their way, they’re getting dropped much quicker, not being given the opportunity to make second albums” Allen continued with her mental capacity at full strength. “The only people responsible are those who are downloading music illegally, because there is no money going towards the bands anymore.”

For our next item, Allen will blame space aliens for the state of the British economy.

Lily Allen releases Not Fair video

The second single from Lily Allen’s hit album It’s Not Me, It’s You is Not Fair.

Not Fair is the follow up to Allen’s global hit The Fear, and the video takes Allen into 70’s television territory, complete with corny announcer and badly dressed band. Not her best video clip.

Also a warning on the lyrics: some will find parts offensive.
