Lil Wayne leads the roster of hip hop star nominees for BET Networks’ sixth annual BET Hip Hop Awards. Wayne, with 18 nominations, is followed by Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa with 9 each, and Rick Ross with 8. Actor and comedian Mike Epps will be returning as host for the third time.

Wayne is nominated for Best Hip Hop Video, Reese’s Perfect Combo Award (Best Collab), Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, MVP of the Year, Track of the Year, Made-You-Look Award (Best Hip Hop Style), Best Club Banger, Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse, Hustler of the Year and two consecutive nominations for Verizon People’s Champ Award (Viewers’ Choice) with videos “Look At Me Now” and “6 Foot 7 Foot.”

Wayne has been piling on numbers prior to the BET nominations. His recently released album ‘The Charter IV’ sold 964,000 copies during the first week, giving him his third career chart-topper on the Billboard 200. iTunes alone was responsible for 300,000 sales. Above all, he outsold Jay-Z and Kanye’s “Watch The Throne” which only managed to sell 436,000 units during its first week.

The live taping will be held at the Bisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta on October 1 while the network premiere will be on October 11 at 8:00 pm.

Now, if he can only give up his skateboard.

Rapper Lil Wayne has received nine stitches after he was injured skateboarding after a Midwest gig.

Wayne- real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.- was at a stop in St. Louis, Missouri when the mishap occurred. The rap star was visiting a skate park with friends, and gave this harrowing account of his injuries on Twitter:

“The Lou [St. Louis] was good but I busted my fuggin head at the sk8park! 9stitches! Gnarly gash over my left eye! Luv the people”

Before Lil Wayne sustained the injuries, he performed at St. Louis’ Verizon Wireless Ampitheater. Sometime after the show, he and his boys visited the skate park where the rapper got hurt. He was taken to DePaul Health Center emergency room nearby, and witnesses say there was a flurry of activity when the rapper appeared with his entourage.

DePaul Health Center refused to confirm any information about Lil Wayne’s injury or the events surrounding his ER visit, citing privacy laws. Lil Wayne is set to perform this weekend at MTV’s Video Music Awards. Following his performance, the rapper’s new album The Carter IV will be released through digital formats ahead of its August 29th record store debut. The upcoming joint features collaborations with rap heavies such as Rick Ross and Busta Rhymes.

Lil Wayne hit it big in 2008 with album The Carter III, for which he won a Grammy. In 2010, he was waylaid in further album-making due to a stint in a New York prison on weapons charges. Reps for the rapper have not commented on the skate park incident.

Rapper Lil Wayne (a.k.a Weezy) has been released from jail after serving eight months of a one-year sentence.

Lil Wayne has been locked up in New York’s Rikers Island prison as part of a plea deal to avoid a longer term behind bars on gun charges. Under the deal, Lil Wayne pleaded guilty for gun possession in exchange for an 8-month term in jail, instead of facing a potential 15 year stint.

Lil Wayne was release from jail at 8:35AM on Thursday morning and friend Mack Maine confirmed that a major bash in his honor will go down this Sunday in Miami.

According to reports, Lil Wayne does not face any subsequent probation or parole from the gun charge, though he is said to be facing three years of unsupervised probation and community service after pleading guilty in Arizona to one count of possession of a dangerous drug.

Going for gold in the story stakes, the Lil Wayne murdered rumor claims that Lil Wayne “is the latest victim of the notorious feud between the Bloods And Crips.”

The report, allegedly attributed to the BBC, continues be saying that “shortly after performing at the New Orleans Arena, Lil Wayne was involved in an altercation with members of rival gang the ‘Crips’, and brutally shot 6 times with a semi automatic 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun.”

“Paramedics rushed to the scene and attempted to resuscitate the rapper, however were unable to prevent colossal blood losses and Dwayne Carter was pronounced dead at 02:36 Am, November 1st,shortly after arriving at Tulane University Hospital.”

I’m scoring it at 7/10 for originality, but not higher because a variation on the Bloods and Crips murder story has been used before. Still, it’s a marked improvement on the over-used car crashes we’ve seen in fake celebrity deaths lately.

For the record, Lil Wayne is not dead, Lil Wayne has not been murdered, end of story.

Due to be officially released on Halloween, the No Ceilings Lil Wayne Mixtape leaked online, and Lil Wayne fans on Twitter and across the web are buzzing.

According to one online review, “Lil Wayne remembers how to rap, and well.” The review claims that “No Ceilings isn’t perfect, and at times it’s downright cheesy” and yet “He’s also never sounded so aware of his audience.”

Rapper Lil Wayne is going to jail as part of a plea deal to avoid a longer term behind bars on gun charges.

According to reports, Lil Wayne will plead guilty for his possession of a .40 caliber gun found on his bus in 2007. Lil Wayne was expected to protest his innocence, but an announcement by authorities that they were to confirm Lil Wayne’s DNA was found on the gun making the chances of a conviction far more likely, bought about the change.

Under the deal, Lil Wayne will reportedly plead guilty for possession in exchange for an 8-month term in jail. If 8 months sounds harsh, Lil Wayne could have faced 15 years behind bars for each count of criminal weapons possession and criminal possession of a loaded weapon. It’s believed that authorities will drop the other charges in return for the guilty plea on the lesser charge.

Lil Wayne joins a long list of rappers who have faced or spent time in jail, a move that it nearly a right of passage in some parts of the industry.

Going for a second fake celebrity death this weekend, the latest rumor to grip the internet has rapper Lil Wayne being shot dead.

Unlike some other rumors lately, there is some truth behind Lil Wayne being shot: Wayne has a history with guns, and when was 12 he accidentally shot himself in the chest with a .44-caliber.

Lil Wayne was last spotted on stage when Drake collapsed on stage Friday. There were no reports of him having fresh bullet wounds.

The interwebs must be bored this weekend. Following on from the false report that Katt Williams had died in a plane crash, the hot rumor of the hour has Lil Wayne dead in a shooting.

The rumor mill reports that Lil Wayne died from a gun shot over the weekend in a gang feud. Wayne has a history with guns, and when was 12 he accidentally shot himself in the chest with a .44-caliber.

Like the Kat Williams rumor yesterday, the Lil Wayne rumor smells a lot like a 4chan stunt, with people posting to message boards that they’ve heard it on the radio “3 minutes ago.”

Perez Hilton claims it’s not true, but that’s the best confirmation we have at this time. If we hear an official denial, we’ll update the post.

Update: this is one report doing the rounds. Still sounds like a hoax, although the police officer named is real.

The multi-platinum award winning artist loves his sport so much, it’s apparently all he watches, according to his first post:

This is the first entry in the blog I’m doing for ESPN The Magazine. I don’t watch nothing but sports—no movies, no news, no television shows—so I thought this would be fun.

Wayne is a Packers fan, who also likes Red Sox, the Lakers and the Boston Bruin. And just for those who thought it was a white mans game, he also likes Tennis.

The blog isn’t all about Lil Wayne, though large parts of it are

I grew up playing football. Believe it or not, I was a fullback. When I was nine, ten, eleven, I was a great blocker. I knew how to block real good and the other kids didn’t. So there I was. One game when I was ten years old we were on the goal line about to score, and coach called the play for me. I was supposed to go one way, but I ended up sneaking around the other side on a sweep. Everybody thought I was already tackled. The ref was already blowin’ his whistle. But I was still up and I stutter stepped one way and beat the last guy trying to get me and scored that touchdown. That’s my favorite sports memory for myself.
