If you aren’t familiar with Lijit (shame on you if that is the case) they provide a nice little service for blog owners to improve the search results of their blogs for their readers. I have been using their service over on WinExtra for quite some time now and even when I search my own blog for something I need to find I will often use the Lijit search widget. Now as good as Lijit is I always felt that there was one aspect of blog content that gets missed when ever you are searching for something on a blog and that is the vast number of comments that blogs collect along the way.

Well Lijit must have heard what I was thinking because they’ve announce an addition to their search features today that covers that problem. If you are using Wordpress and the default comment setup that comes with it Lijit will know include them in the results of your searches

and away we went. Now along with our integrations of Disqus, JS-Kit, Intense Debate, if you are using the default Wordpress comments, you will find a nice link in the lower left that will expose a few of the comments on the post, and a link to view more comments.

With the inclusion of Wordpress comments (even Wordpress.com comments, which is ironic since *cough* Automattic wont allow us to be installed on their Wordpress.com platform *cough*) our publishers can see the direction we are going with our feature set.

As handy as that feature might be the last comment of their post announcing this new addition has me really curious about what they have up their sleeves.

Nice additions guys – keep up the good work.

I’ve been using Lijit for quite some time on my home blog and have been quite happy with the service however in a recent update of the service they have added a really great bonus to their search results. If you are a blogger and you use either the JS-Kit, Intense Debate or Disqus commenting services your users will find blog comments have been added into the search results that Lijit displays.

When the user’s search results are display they will now see an additional link under a listed result that will let them display any comments that have been made on the post. The reason they added this feature is

Why is comment integration important?

–People that write and read blogs are always interested in what others have to say. One of the most valuable pieces of any blog is the comments section because it’s an excellent indicator of reader engagement and shows the conversation taking place around a topic. Lijit understands that and with this integration, give you the ability to judge a search result by checking out the comments before you click on the result.

–The integration of comments into search results is an important step forward in the integration of widgets and the content that BOTH publishers and readers find valuable. Lijit is proud to offer a unique search experience that is not available anywhere else.

–Lijit was founded on the notion of trust. We recognize the critical importance of your social network in establishing and conveying trust. This is yet another example of how Lijit uncovers more valuable information for publishers, readers and commenters alike.

Nice addition in my opinion – thanks Team Lijit from a happy user.

Social search service Lijit has launched the Lijit Ad Network, bringing revenue opportunities to Lijit users.

Lijit offers a search facility for blogs (we’re currently using them) that includes social grouping, for example as well as offering local blog search, bloggers can add blogs they’re friendly with to the mix. Until now, advertising against those search results wasn’t shared, so although it’s a smart enough service, for some, not getting a cut of the action, vs local search, or even Google Custom search was a limiting factor.

Along with the revenue sharing from ads, Lijit will also allow users to sell their search based ads directly to advertisers with whom they may already have relationships. This functionality isn’t available today, but will be offered soon.

The ad network will appeal to sites who that a lot of searches, and may also be of interest to others. Either way, it removes the main reason most cite in not using Lijit, so it’s a good move.

Blog search service Lijit has taken $7.1 million Series C in a round led by Foundry Group that included existing investors Boulder Ventures and Colorado Fund. Lijit said it would use the funding to launch its own ad network and monetize its widget offering. Total funding to date is $11.3million.

Lijit’s search service enables readers to search blog publishers’ posts, bookmarks, blogroll, and more from a widget placed on the publisher’s property. Essentially, it becomes a single box to search any published material from a company or individual no matter where it is, be it on blogs, Flickr or other social networking sites.

We have a Lijit box in the sidebar here at The Inquisitr, although it’s not high up, perhaps it should be higher. Congrats to the team on the round.

On a side note, there’s a little brouhaha brewing over this story and the embargo time being broken. Combatants include Mashable and Venturebeat. The policy of this site has always been, and will remain, that we will always respect embargoes, but having said that we don’t like them all the time either. I’m constantly forgetting to post things because the PR rep gave the story to me with a 2 week embargo. Insane. However, given the time differences involved a 24 hour embargo or there about gives everyone a fair shot at the story no matter where they live, so they should be respected where ever possible.
