LeBron James reportedly lost his cool during the fourth quarter of his teams win over Washington when he allegedly threatened to beat up a spectator who had been heckling him.

Bob Moore mentioned a years-old urban legend involving James’s former teammate Delonte West and LeBron mom’s Gloria which led to LeBron firing back at Moore.

LeBron was waiting alone in the backcourt when fan Bob Moore made a comment to LeBron about Delonte West and LeBron’s mom…

…Accrding to Moore, LeBron said “The only reason you talk [expletive] is because you know I can’t come off the court right now and beat your ass”…

…Also according to Moore, LeBron continued “But if I had a free pass, I’d kick your ass right now.”…

…Moore replied “I’m right here baby. Let’s go” before security stepped in.

Kogod  added:

“It’s not acceptable for ANY athlete to engage a heckling fan in this way.”"

I personally disagree with Kogod, if someone’s yelling at me and trying to spread rumors about my family I’m going to shoot back at them. The pathetic part of the exchange is that Bob Moore was too much of a wimp to accept back what LeBron was slinging back at him.

Furthermore I hate attending sporting events where some drunken idiot is screaming at players the entire game, at least when their heckling has nothing to do with the game. If you want to make fun of LeBron’s or any other players lousy performance during a game that’s fine, but don’t be the idiot who’s screaming the entire time about their mom or some other heckle that’s been used a million times.

Chris Bosh also put together an impressive performance on the night with 14 points and a season-high 16 boards to help Miami improve to a 21-7 record while the Atlanta Hawks, who are currently sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference’s Southeast Division, dropped to 18-10.

“You just have to give credit to the team effort on the defensive end,” Bosh said following his team’s victory. “Everybody did their job, put bodies on guys. We just went up in traffic, got it with two hands. Just fundamental basketball.”

As for Atlanta, who defeated Miami back on January 2nd (the Heat’s first loss of the 2012 season), the Hawks starters combined for just 40 points, as the reserves ended up with plenty of action.

Willie Green led the Hawks with 17 points off the bench, while newcomer Dampier got in six minutes of action and finished with four rebounds and no points. Aside from Green, Joe Johnson was the only Hawk to hit double figures in scoring, putting up 12 points – but grabbing zero rebounds.

“When things weren’t going very well, when we were missing shots and physically they got up in us,” Hawks coach Larry Drew said after the game. “They were clearly the aggressor and we did not respond. You could read our body language. When they made that run our body language was not very good. That is an area where we have to get better at. There is too much basketball to be played when they make a run.”

With their victory over the Hawks, the Miami Heat have now won 10 of their last twelve games and have a 3 game lead over Atlanta in the Southeast Division. They are four games ahead of the Orlando Magic (17-11).

Analysts and fans alike have engaged in the great debate of whether or not Kobe Bryant or LeBron James is the better player, but none of us are quite as qualified to weigh in as Larry Bird, one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Bird was asked which player he would prefer to be on a team with, Kobe or LeBron–and Bird provided a surprisingly honest and detailed answer. Here’s what he had to say:

“Well, probably Kobe, because of the fact that … well, of course he wouldn’t have been shooting as much as he does now … but his desire to win, his dedication, to always get better, uh, and he’s just, he’s just tough. He’s just a tough cat.

“But, if you want to have fun, like I did with Bill Walton, play with LeBron. It would have probably been more fun to play with LeBron, but if you want to win and win and win, it’s Kobe. Not that LeBron’s not a winner, just that (Bryant’s) mindset is to go into every practice, every game, to get better.”

So, there you have it. If you want to win, you go with Kobe. If you want to have fun and, well, maybe win, you go with LeBron.

Lebron James and the Miami Heat defeated Derick Rose and the Chicago Bulls today 97-93. The game came down to the final minutes but the highlight came during the first quarter.

Lebron James jumped over John Lucas during the first quarter to catch an alley-oop from Dwyane Wade. When asked about the dunk after the game, James said:

“It was just a great pass from Wade.”

The Bulls played today’s game without Loul Deng but were able to hang with the Heat until the final minutes.

The Bulls didn’t lead today’s game once. Rose had a chance to give the Bulls a lead in the final minute but the Chicago star missed two free throws. On the other end, James missed two of his own and gave the Bulls one final chance to win. But D-Rose and the Bulls couldn’t convert and gave the Heat the victory.

Rose scored 34 points today and became the first player this season to score more than 30 against the Heat.

The Bulls, who lost to the Heat during a five-game series last year in the East Coast finals, will get three more chances to take on Lebron James, Dwayne Wayde, and the Miami Heat. The two east coast leaders will meet again on March 14th in Chicago.

LeBron James is treading in familiar waters this week after his arrogant attitude left him in a clash with a Miami baker over a free $3,000 birthday cake. Yes you heard that right a “free” birthday cake that the baker is demanding $3,000 for making.

According to the Miami Herald area baker Alethea Hickman was asked to make the cake for Lebron’s 27th birthday celebration, in return she was promised a bunch of free publicity from a Miami nightspot celebration.

According to party handler Jared Galbut they would not pay for the cake but would consider it a “sponsorship” of the event.

Hickman then agreed to make the cake and even hired extra help during the holiday season to get it done. After the cake was completed Hickman then says everything went wrong:

“I don’t even know where my cake went,” Hickman said. “I was mortified. They had me do it in the middle of the holiday crush and I hired additional people. Someone needs to pay.”

In response Galbut says the cake wasn’t what LeBron James “expected” and therefore he decided to “bring his own cake.” As Galbut so delicately put it:

“I can’t tell LeBron James what birthday cake to eat. It’s LeBron James, for Christ’s sake.”

Continuing his attack against the baker for whom he made an agreement he said of the cost:

“That cake couldn’t be worth more than $600. It’s flour, eggs and water.”

Quickly shooting back against his claim Alethea Hickman noted:

No, it’s not just “flour, eggs and water,” you idiot. It’s “workers, hours, wages, delivery, passed-over revenue streams that were let go so as to service James,” and also “things that go on and in a cake besides flour, eggs and water.”

As to whether Hickman will attempt to recover money from the LeBron James birthday cake fiasco through legal means, it’s still unclear if she would have a case and the negative publicity she could receive might very well hurt her business with wealthier clientele.

NBA star LeBron James of the Miami Heat proposed to longtime girlfriend Savannah Brinson on Saturday night, the perfect way to ring in the New Year.

According to reports the engagement occurred at the Shelborne hotel in South Beach where the 27-year-old NBA star popped the question during a New Year’s Eve dinner which was part of his birthday celebration.

To make the occasion even more special James picked up the couple’s sons LeBron Jr., 7 and Bryce, 4, and swung them around on the floor in celebration.

The party was put together by James’ teammate Dwyane Wade and his girlfriend Gabrielle Union. The event was setup as a belated birthday present fro Lebron who turned 27 on Dec. 30.

Among the parties other 60 guests were teammate Chris Bosh and actress/singer Queen Latifah.

Brinson had told Harper’s Bazaar in 2010 that the couple weren’t rushing into marriage:

“When it happens, it happens,” she said. ”If we do it, I want it to be forever.”

And unlike Bryant or James, Humphries unpopularity was generated almost entirely off of the basketball court. He didn’t trash talk or taunt his fans. All Humprhies had to do to win the dubious title was marry Kim Kardashian.

Stephen Master, VP at Nielsen Sports, said:

“He’s been on five magazine covers, all in a negative light, It’s all so recent, he’s gotten all this publicity for something other than basketball talent.”

According to a poll conducted by Nielsen and E-Poll Market Research, 50% of NBA fans look at Kris Humphries in a negative light. Lebron James came next with 48%, followed by Kobe Bryant with 45%.

Take this case from an exhibition game in Memphis where he pumped 43 points, including this awesome tomahawk dunk.

You may have seen him with that dunk before but for this woman, it was a dunk that deserves her congratulatory hand. She stood up, extended her hand to congratulate LeBron and got a cold hand. Actually, he acted as if he did not see her. Because of this, she made LeBron reach her hand so she can congratulate her.

The World All-Star Classic is set to begin in Puerto Rico on Sunday and now insiders close to the event say LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul have all backed out of the tour.

Originally planned for six-games the four-continent tour is now at risk of being cancelled although event organizers say the Puerto Rico event will still happen thanks to brisk ticket sales.

Tour organizer Calvin Darden was hoping to bring together the best players in the league and while the loss of three all-stars deals a potentially crippling blow the tour will still feature confirmed appearances by Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and Amare Stoudemire

Also already missing out on the tour is Kevin Durant.

It turns out that the three men met together over the last week to discuss plans to play and ultimately they decided that spending more time with family during the NBA Lockout is what they wanted.

For his part Chris Paul is a member of the players union’s executive committee and a source close to the NBA lockout talks say he wants to stay close to home for further labor meetings.

The first group to withdraw from the tour included NBA MVP Derrick Rose and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook. Rose instead decided to play in the USA-backed exhibition at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii.

It’s not too often I get to file a LeBron James story in our football section but with the NBA lockout in full swing I guess anythings possible. James threw on some pads and practiced this week with the Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary high school team and stoked speculation of a free agency deal with the NFL.

After his workout James tweeted:

“Felt great being back on the field. Should I?”

Then last night James tweeted ESPN NFL guru John Clayton to ask when the deadline to sign free agents was.

While it’s highly unlikely LeBron will make the jump to the NFL during the lockout he did catch the attention of Pete Carroll who tweeted:

“Hey @KingJames, are you aware of what the league’s rookie minimum is?”

To which LeBron responded:

“Yeah, more than I’m making now, coach.”

After some back and forth Carroll finally tweeted:

I like it! maybe you should head over to #TheU & I’ll set up a workout for you to catch a few balls.”

Clayton gave LeBron one bit of comical advice:

“Sign with any team besides Philadelphia. You want to stay away from those ‘Dream Teams.’”

A capacity crowd of roughly 4,000 packed FIU’s U.S. Century Bank Arena to watch Lebron and Co. “battle it out” on the hardtop with NBA talent such as Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony of the Knicks, Chris Paul of New Orleans, Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City, Rajon Rondo of Boston, and others.

Although several NBA players have played in similar events this summer, this game, organized by the Heat’s Big 3 in conjunction with FIU men’s basketball coach Isiah Thomas, was the first in Miami.

“We want to show our fans it’s all for them,” Wade said. “We’re happy we can bring some kind of basketball to the fans.”

In the end, D-Wade’s squad came out on top, beating Lebron’s team 141-140 in overtime.

The proceeds of the game benefited the Mary’s Court Foundation, which works with disadvantaged youth and families in the Garfield Park and Lawndale areas in Chicago and was established in honor of Thomas’ late mother, Mary Thomas.

Following the event, Melo’ – who played on Wade’s team and hit a shot that send the game into overtime – said that in the absence of NBA games, these exhibition games will continue. He is targeting the “middle of November” for a similar charity game in New York.

“We just want to keep giving back like this,” Anthony said.

Recently, while on a promotional tour in Asia with Nike, James took part in a game involving two Taiwanese All-Star teams.

After spending the first half of the game sharing some of his extensive hoop knowledge as a coach for one of the teams, LeBron decided to turn in his clipboard and take the floor as a player.

“I was prepared to coach,” James told reporters after the game. “But, I saw how much fun those kids were having out there and I wanted to join them and be a part of the whole experience.

Little did King James know, that “experience” would include him getting ripped and then posterized by a Taiwanese player from the opposing team.

Speaking in a press conference this Friday to reporters in Taipei, Taiwan, James said:

“Right now I am working toward the NBA season, I believe there will be a season, and hopefully both sides can come together.”

James and the rest of his NBA co-”workers” have been locked out since July 1, 2011, when the old Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), expired and nothing could be achieved in negotiations about the next CBA.

There is apparently a large gap in the demands of players and NBA owners which cannot be bridged quickly, as the two groups have been split over issues including distribution of revenues and the imposition of a salary cap.

While James is confident that NBA players union chief Billy Hunter and NBA commissioner David Stern will come to an agreement soon enough, his teammate Dwayne Wade has stated he may play overseas if it doesn’t happen this year.

“I’m going to play basketball this year,” Wade told the Associated Press in New York this Tuesday. “I don’t know where, but I love the game so much that I will play it. And we will figure that out.”

Addressing LeBron’s optimism that the upcoming season would take place, Wade added:

“I understand why LeBron said it. At the end of the day, we are in negotiations. And you know how negotiations work. In the 11th hour, it can look like nothing’s going to happen. In the 12th hour, we can have it happen. You have to prepare like we’re going to have to be ready for training camp in the first week of October, just like you normally do. So I understand exactly what he meant. I’m not that positive that it might happen.”

If you plan on being one of the 15 million viewers to watch tonight’s NBA Finals game 3, pay close attention to Heat stars Dwayne Wade and Lebron James.

Besides the usual assortment of spectacular plays the duo are sure to serve up, tonight they will be debuting a couple pairs of previously unworn signature shoes.

According to Nikemedia.com Wade will be rocking the Jordan Fly Wade, which is apparently the lightest Jordan B-ball shoe to ever hit the hardtop.

The Jordan Fly Wade was designed to withstand his rigorous game and provide enough support to take him to the finals. The combination of a Nike Zoom unit in the forefoot and a Max Air unit in the heel provides the lightweight responsiveness and long-lasting impact protection DWade needs to stay one step ahead of his opponents.

Dwayne Wade, Lebron James ‘Air’ New Shoes in Finals Game 3 is a post from: The Inquisitr

Lebron James made his feelings clear earlier this afternoon in a post Miami Heat practice conference. When asked about comments by former Jordan teammate, Scottie Pippen, the King (Lebron) stated,

“I’m gracious, humbled by Scottie’s comments, especially with him being a teammate of his and seeing Michael on a day-to-day basis, but as far as me, I don’t know. I’m not going to sit here and say that I’m better than Jordan. I’m not better than Jordan.”

The specific comments he was referring to were made by Pippen during a recent ESPN interview on the Mike and Mike In the Morning Radio Show. He was quoted as saying,

“Michael Jordan is probably the greatest scorer to play the game,” Pippen said Friday on “Mike & Mike In The Morning” on ESPN Radio. “But I may go as far as to say LeBron James may be the greatest player to ever play the game because he is so potent offensively that not only can he score at will but he keeps everybody involved.”

After the quote by Pippen went viral, he immediately hopped on Twitter to defend and clarify himself:

“For all of you that don’t know, I played the game you keep watching and cheering.”

“Don’t get me wrong, MJ was and is the greatest. But LeBron could by all means get to his level someday.”

“Every NBA generation has a new set of stars and LeBron is there as the best all around player in the game.”

Other NBA analysts have also chimed in on the situation. Former NBA coach Jeff Van Gundy said:

“There is no doubt that LeBron is the best player in the game today. However, he is on a team that has incredible talent. … Michael played on great teams but he never came close to the level of talent around him.”

I’m definitely a Jordan fan myself, but I have to agree with Scottie on this one that LBJ can and will get to and surpass MJ at some point in his career. What say you?

This will be my last Lebron James story for a long while, I promise. However I really got to question the sanity and the decision by Cavs owners Dan Gilbert to come out and blast Lebron in the wake of his decision to leave town. It is not that I disagree with anything Mr. Gilbert said, just that NBA owners probably should not conduct themselves in this manner. To be fair, I use to work for Mr. Gilbert and always found him to be a pretty pleasant guy. Lebron really got under his skin, and Dan hated this self indulgent display as much as the rest of us did.

To start Dan wrote an open letter to Cavs fans that was posted on the team’s website moments after the news hit. In that letter he called Lebron disloyal and worse, saying much the same thing I said about this incredible narcissistic, self indulgent display that has ruined the credibility of the four letter network, and the University of Phoenix who sponsored this ridiculous display. (Of course the University of Phoenix is allegedly run by a bunch of pimps and whores anyway so maybe this is par for the course for them.) One can read Gilbert’s letter here.

Of course he was not finished, in an interview with the AP Gilbert then accused Lebron of quitting on his team, and cited several examples. He said James quit on the Cavs not only in game five, but in games 2, 4, and 6 of the Boston Celtics playoff series.  He also said that James has gotten a free pass for far too long, and that it is time to put that practice to an end.

Again, for the most part I agree with Gilbert’s reaction. I do not care that James decided to go to Miami, he was free to do so, but the way in which he did so was repulsive. However this kind of scathing commentary should be saved for us sports bloggers, not an owner of a NBA franchise.

Pat Riley now has his big three, and while it still hurts the hearts of Cleveland Cavailers fans, everything is going to work out, as a number of salary cap rules have now come into play that will help the heat get all big three starts signed, and all three teams still have cap room to add other pieces. The Toronto Raptors and the Cavaliers also got trade exceptions in return for the sign and trade deals that allowed all of this to get done. This is pretty technical, confusing stuff, but I will attempt to break down the jargon.

The first move was to resign Dwayne Wade, since he was already a member of the Heat, they can use the Larry Bird exception to sign him. That means they can go over the salary cap without penalty to resign their player. That means Wade can be paid a lot more money.

In the case of Chris Bosh, he was signed to a deal with his Toronto Raptors and was then traded to the Heat for two first round draft picks. The Raptors also get a trade exception that allows the deal to go through even though the salaries do not match.
Under NBA rules trades of players must have matching salaries. So the Raptors get a trade to add the salary that was lost on Bosh. Bosh also gets to sign a bigger deal than he would have had he signed with Miami straight up. Since he does not have the endorsement deals that Lebron James and Wade have he will likely be the highest paid player in South Beach.

The Cavaliers entered into a similar agreement with Heat, and will get the rights to five future draft picks and a similar exception to add salary within one calendar year. Essentially the Raptors and the Cavs can now go out and add big time money to their payroll, and have one year to do just that.

I guess I have to write something about this, even though I really don’t want to. In a week where things were going so great, a second week of new Futurama episodes on Comedy Central, my Detroit Tigers sit in first place, and my mother has taken my four year old son to visit family in Chicago, I turn n ESPN to find out about the decision, and I get treated to some ridiculous over the top self indulgent piece of crap. I could only stomach the Lebron fest for about four minutes and by the time he said South Beach I was ready to vomit. I am done with ESPN, and I have been done with the so called King Lebron, a king with no rings.

This is a way easy decision play in South Beach, Miami where it is just awesome, on in Cleveland, Ohio where Winter is the best eight months of the year. Trust me, I have much extended family living in Cleveland and they are retarded for the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns, the Cavilers not so much.

This is simple math, South Beach plus Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and Lebron equals a super team unlike what we have seen in modern history. Sure the Boston Celtics have their big three and so do the Lakers, but this is very near ridiculous.  However they are a few pieces away from being a team that can win a title.

I would say they need a big guy or two, not to score, but to play defense, rebound, and run the floor. I would also say that they need some three point shooters on the bench and in the starting lineup. If they want to add another contract they are going to have and try and deal Michael Beasley, or decide that winning a couple of rings is worth heading into luxury tax land.

A man claiming to be the father of basketball star LeBron James has sauntered back into his life, and not surprisingly, Leicester Bryce Stovell is seeking a few million dollars from his possible son.

55-year-old Stovell says that he had an affair with the athlete’s mother Gloria in 1984, when he was 29 and LeBron’s mother was 15. The man claims Gloria returned months after the one-night stand to inform him of her pregnancy, and Stovell says at that time he also planted the seeds for basketball greatness:

Stovell claims Gloria returned to her hometown in Ohio after their one-night stand, but returned several months later to tell him she was pregnant…  A self-proclaimed high school star athlete, Stovell says he told Gloria, “Well, if he’s mine, make sure he plays basketball.”

It appears that Stovell was fine with offering extracurricular activity advice rather than actual, real child-supporting dough to his underage baby mama- until LeBron became a big name baller. Now, Stovell wants his cut, too:

More than 20 years later, Stovell says he called Gloria in 2007 after noticing physicial similarites between himself and the NBA superstar.

“[I was] struck by our similarity in appearance …” he says in the docs. “James and I are nearly if not identical height and pigmentation and have very similar athletic body types.”

James is expected to receive a contract this week topping $100 million, which probably has nothing to do with Stovell’s sudden desire to be a dad. Stovell says that while tests say James isn’t his son, the basketball star and his mother conspired to tamper with the test’s results. He is moving forward in forging the father-son relationship by suing his possible progeny for fraud, defamation and misrepresentation.
