Nestle is recalling all remaining stock of a lot of Lean Cuisine’s Simple Favorites Spaghetti with Meatballs variety after customer complaints led to the discovery of red plastic bits in the meatball portion of the product.

The affected dinners all seem to have been produced during a one-hour period this past October. Nestle says that it’s likely very little of the stock remains on shelves, but advises consumers on how to determine which varieties are affected:

…due to its popularity, Nestle believes very little remains in retail distribution. For this reason, Nestle is reaching out to consumers to ask that they examine their freezer inventory for specific packages of LEAN CUISINE® Simple Favorites Spaghetti with Meatballs, UPC 13800-10390, which would carry the production code 0298595519 P. To locate the production code, consumers should look for the gray “proof of purchase” panel, located on the right end flap of the package, below the ingredient statement.

Customers have been asked to call a support line at (866) 606-8264 or to email leancuisine@casupport.com for a replacement coupon. The company may seek to retrieve affected product to examine the contamination. No injuries have been reported in relation to the recall.

Thousands of packages of Lean Cuisine meals are being recalled because they may contain plastic. Nestle says its Pesto Chicken with Bow Tie Pasta, its Chicken Mediterranean, and its Chicken Tuscan could all pose problems and should not be eaten. The Food and Safety Inspection Service says at least one person has been injured by the plastic inside the meals.

The Pesto Chicken comes in a 9.5 ounce package with a production code of “8280595912″ and a date of “Best Before May 2010.”

The Chicken Mediterranean comes in a 10.5 ounce package and could have several production codes and dates: “8231595912″ or “8241595912″ with “Best Before Sept. 2010″; “8263595912,” “8269595911,” or “8274595912″ with “Best Before Oct. 2010″; or “8291595912″ or “8301595912″ with “Best Before Nov. 2010.”

Each of the packages, distributed throughout all of America, also has an establishment number of “EST P-9018″ printed on the box.

This isn’t the first time Nestle has found hard plastic in its prepackaged meals, either. A similar recall was issued for Lean Cuisine meals back in January of 2006.

You can contact Nestle directly with any questions at 1-800-993-8625.
