Lady Gaga sat down this week at the “It’s Our Turn” conference at Brentwood School in Los Angeles where she discussed her battle with bulimia, a serious eating disorder that affects thousands of teenagers throughout the United States.

In her talk Gaga says she attempted to turn herself from “a voluptuous little Italian girl” to a “skinny little ballerina.”

During her 30-minute interview with Maria Shriver Gaga also took questions from the audience, including a question from a girl who wanted to know how she eventually became confident with her body.

“I used to throw up all the time in high school. So I’m not that confident,” said Gaga. “I wanted to be a skinny little ballerina but I was a voluptuous little Italian girl whose dad had meatballs on the table every night. I used to come home and say, ‘Dad, why do you always give us this food? I need to be thin.’ And he’d say, ‘Eat your spaghetti.’ It’s really hard, but … you’ve got to talk to somebody about it.”

The singer also reveals that her disorder almost ruined her career:

“It made my voice bad, so I had to stop,” she said. “The acid on your vocal cords — it’s very bad. But for those of you who don’t sing, you maybe don’t have that excuse until it’s too late. It’s very dangerous.”

As one of the most popular and recognizable figures in the pop world today Lady Gaga told those in attendance that she still worried about her body image today, especially considering that she’s constantly having photos and videos taken.

“Weight is still a struggle,” she said. “Every video I’m in, every magazine cover, they stretch you — they make you perfect. It’s not real life … I’m gonna say this about girls: The dieting wars have got to stop. Everyone just knock it off. Because at the end of the day, it’s affecting kids your age. And it’s making girls sick.”

Many celebrities battle with eating disorders and we’ve seen the result of those battles end in rehabilitation, hospitalization and other incidents, it’s nice to see someone like Lady Gaga so openly talk about her battles.

It’s been a year since Lady Gaga released “Born This Way” and several critics have pointed out that the song is very similar to Madonna’s “Express Yourself.” Well, it turns out that Madonna feels the same way.

Madonna will appear on 20/20 tonight but a few tidbits from the interview have already leaked online. When asked about how she felt about Lady Gaga and “Born This Way,” Madonna said:

 “I thought, What a wonderful way to redo my song. I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was…interesting…. I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it’s amusing and flattering and well done.”

The pop icon went on to say that she things Lady Gaga is a “great artist” but her music, at least “Born This Way,” “felt reductive.”

For the first time since 2004, US album sales rose 3%. Just how many albums were sold in 2011? Nearly 500 Million, clocking in at 458 Million total. The decline of CD sales has had many record companies and execs concerned, though consumers are still listening to music. The difference is in simply how they are consuming the music.

Digital music has exploded over the years and while physical CD sales decline, that just means people are buying online versus offline nowadays. Of the 458 Million albums sold Worldwide, there’s a few artists who stand out among the crowd, artists that you’re likely familiar with.

Adele who absolutely exploded the past year, sold an astounding 5.8 Million albums of her “21″ while also selling nearly 1 Million copies, 856,000 to be exact, of her album “19″. Michael Buble did exceptionally well with his “Christmas” album, clocking in at 2.5 Million sold.

Of course, who can forget Lady Gaga who also went double platinum with “Born This Way” which sold 2.1 Million copies. Associated Press has even more details:

“Digital album sales rose nearly 20 percent to 103 million, while CDs fell nearly 6 percent to 225 million. The rest of the total is made up largely of digital single tracks, where 10 tracks are counted as one album. Digital singles sales rose nearly 9 percent to 1.27 billion.”

The reality is that music sold via physical means, will continue to decline as we continue to shift into a more digital society. This isn’t necessarily something for record companies to be concerned about as many are making a killing through digital sales. Money is money and people will spend that money to listen to the music they want and use the means which best serves their needs.

Amanda had sent her mother a text saying she would be home soon, but thirty minutes later her mom was upset that she hadn’t heard anything more from her. Her mother received a call from police that a Jane Doe had been brought into the hospital after being hit by the bus and it was her daughter.

Relatives said she was popular at school, but recently she had been tormented by a group of girls at New Dorp High School over an older man.

Her uncle had commented that the group of teens taunted her mercilessly at school.  They took her phone and jacket and even wrote horrible things about her on her Facebook page as she lay dying at Staten Island University Hospital.

Her Uncle, Keith Cummings, vowed to go after the bullies and make sure they are held responsible for this.

He Told the New York Daily News,

“I’m not going to tolerate this. I’m gonna go full force. Kids can’t do this to each other.”

Over the last few years bullying has taken center stage in the debate over how children behave.  There have been many high profile suicides throughout the country from teens and young adults who can’t shake the bully’s wrath.

Several celebrities have embraced the cause of stopping bullying in its tracks.

TIm Gunn has released a movie talking to gay teens about how he tried to kill himself because of his own despair when he was 17 but was so glad it was unsuccessful.  Lady Gaga has taken to the airwaves in many different ways through song and a mini video (see below) to decry bullying. Facebook and Time Warner teamed up recently to create a Stop Bullying app!

Amanda Cummings mother said she has no feelings towards the bullies, except sadness that it had to lead to something like this.

Mayor Bloomberg will get some help from Lady Gaga when the Times Square Ball drops tonight at Midnight. Several celebrities will be attending and/or performing in Times Square tonight to celebrate New Year’s Eve, but the Fame Monster has the primetime task of lowering the ball.

Lady Gaga wrote on Twitter:

“I’m so looking forward to performing on NYE+dropping the Ball with Mayor Bloomberg! What an honor as a New Yorker!”

Mayor Bloomberg also said that he was looking forward to it. Bloomberg said that he has never met Lady Gaga but was looking forward to see her perform on New Year’s Eve.

Bloomberg said:

 ”I have never met Lady Gaga. I saw her once perform at the museum, the Metropolitan Museum. I thought she was a great entertainer. But I do not personally know her and I’m looking forward to it.”

Zap2It reports that Lady Gaga will push the Waterford Crystal button that will drop the giant ball above Times Square. Hillary Clinton, Muhammad Ali, and Rudy Giuliani have had the honor of dropping the ball in the past.

Lady Gaga will also be performing during “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest.“  Justin Bieber, Pitbull and Hot Chelle Rae will also be performing in New York for New Year’s Eve. Broadway World reports that The Band Perry, Blink-182, Florence + The Machine, Gym Class Heroes, Nicki Minaj, and will.i.am will be performing on the West Coast.

The two were spotted awkwardly walking around the beach in California with Kinney’s arm around a stiletto clad Gaga.

Gaga and Kinney met on the set of her smash hit video, You and I, which he also starred in.  Since the video was shot earlier this year, the couple have apparently been inseparable.  they have gone out of their way to keep themselves out of the spotlight and especially away from photographers.

She was asked about their relationship back in September, but always the always tight lipped pop star said:

‘You know I don’t talk about my love life, but I’m very happy.’

Kinney’s ex, Brittany Sackett had nothing nice to say about him.  She supposedly was still dating the actor when she found out about him and Lady Gaga.  She told Us weekly that she thought he was “Fame Hungry”.  She also went on to talk about the dump that Kinney shares with his three roommates.  Gaga supposedly stayed with him there a few times. 

Lady Gaga was also seen around Kinney’s home town in Pennsylvania looking at houses.  a $1.7 million dollar house in the area supposedly caught her eye.

Lady Gaga is having a really hard time finding assistants that can keep up with her busy schedule, while also putting up with her strange lifestyle and crazy wardrobe choices.

Gaga’s former assistant Jennifer O’Neill is suing the pop star, claiming that she is owed nearly $380,000 in unpaid overtime after 13 months handling a $75,000-a-year job.

According to the New York Post. O’Neill claims that she was at Gaga’s beck and call day and night, in some cases performing odd tasks such as ensuring “the promptness of a towel following a shower and (served) as a personal alarm clock to keep [Gaga] on schedule.

Gaga’s rep says the claims are “completely without merit” and will be fought in a court of law.

This isn’t the first run-in Lady Gaga has had with a former employee, her last personal assistant said Gaga didn’t want to be alone most nights and would ask that her employee sleep in the same bed as her. That same former PA says they would also share showers and makeup time.

Given Lady Gaga’s eccentric lifestyle I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the stories of her strange employment methods were true. Do you think working for Gaga would be a dream job or a complete nightmare?

Lady Gaga has been voted ‘AP Entertainer of the Year’ by the Associated Press. The quirky pop star has become the fourth consecutive woman to clinch the title, after Betty White in 2010, Taylor Swift in 2009, and Tina Fey in 2008.

The honor is bestowed on the individual who 135 editors and broadcasters at the AP feel influenced entertainment and culture in the previous 12 months. The 25-year-old pop star just edged out late Apple founder Steve Jobs by a miniscule three votes.

Other contenders for this year’s gong included actor and drunk Charlie Sheen, Adele (yawn), the cast of Harry Potter and former champ Taylor Swift (snore).

Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, has had a busy (and indeed entertaining) 2011. In February she turned up to the Grammys in an egg, released her Born This Way album in May, performed in drag at the VMAs in August, met Obama in September, and rocked up at the White House this month to push her anti-bullying campaign.

In between all that, the performer launched her ‘Born This Way’ foundation, a nonprofit charity designed to deal with “issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development.” The Grammy Award-winning singer co-directs the foundation with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta.

And only this week, Gaga posed nude for Tony Bennett to allow him to draw her. The resulting charcoal sketch was auctioned for charity, with bidding ending on $26,900.

So let’s hear it, people – Lady Gaga, your choice for entertainer of 2011? Or not so much?

When Lady Gaga got together with Tony Bennett to record a song for the new album “Duets II” they did a little more than just sing together. Apparently, nude artwork is also part of Bennett’s recording process. Bennett sketched Lady Gaga nude and now the 18 x 24 charcoal painting is going up for auction.

The nude Lady Gaga painting had a starting bid of $5000 when the auction started today. At the moment, the price is already up to $7700. (The reserve still hasn’t been met.) The eBay auction, which you can bid on here, will end on December 19th.

All proceeds from the sale of Bennett’s painting will go to Tony Bennett’s charity, Exploring the Arts, and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.

eBay writes:

“Tony Bennett created this charcoal portrait of Lady Gaga using Prismacolor Premier Art vine Charcoal sticks working on Fabriano Artisico heavy weight watercolor paper. The portrait measures 18″ x 24″ and is signed by the artist, using his given name “Benedetto” which is how Tony Bennett signs his original artwork.”

The auction also includes items like the Mercura sunglasses and the Brian Atwood heels that Lady Gaga wore during the Vanity Fair photo shoot, as well as a poster of the Vanity Fair cover signed by Lady Gaga. Tony Bennett is putting up a limited edition print of his “Gondola, Venice,” and a signed copy of “Tony Bennett in the Studio: A Life in Art and Music.”

Lady Gaga paid a visit to the White House on Tuesday to further discuss the issue of bullying with the government bigwigs.

While she didn’t meet with President Obama himself (he was otherwise engaged in Kansas for a speech on the economy), the pop star discussed the subject with Obama administration staffers, and was later praised by Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett.

Jarrett described Gaga as “a source of strength for many young people who feel isolated and scared at their school.” Writing on the White House blog – the White house has a blog! – Jarrett said:

“Lady Gaga has described this cause as a personal one — she has said that as a child, she was often picked on for being different. I am deeply moved by the way she has used her story, and her success, to inspire young people, and shine the spotlight on important issues.”

Apparently Gaga and Obamama have met before, when the singer appeared at an Obama fundraiser for his re-election campaign in California this year. No question where Gaga’s hat lies.

The Obama administration says bullying affects 13 million students, or about a third of those attending school.

So good on Gaga, I say. Yeah okay, she’s not everybody’s cup of tea, and yes, she’s a pretty one-dimensional recycler of old pop trends with an average voice, but to heck with that, she clearly cares about some crucial issues (as opposed to negotiating her next reality TV deal or living off of her parents’ hedge fund). And for that, I salute her.

Lady Gaga gets naked, eats Cheerios, and gets in a car crash during her 13 minute “Marry the Night” video, and even though that sounds like a great time, Gaga says that the video was inspired by the worst day of her life.

Lady Gaga told E! News: “It was one of the worst days of my life and it happened quite quickly, but in my mind, when I think back on that period of my life, it all happened very slow.”

So what was the worst day in Lady Gaga’s life? The day that she saw her dreams slipping away from her. When she was dropped from Island Def Jam.

So is the video just her sitting in an office as some record exec tells her that she’s fired? Hardly. This is Lady Gaga’s artistic interpretation of the events. Gaga says at the beginning of the “Marry the Night” video:

“When I look back on my life. It’s not that I don’t want to remember things exactly the way they happened. It’s just that I prefer to remember them in an artistic way. And truthfully, the lie of it all is much more honest because I invented it.”

The 13-minute video only contains about four minutes of music. The first 9-minutes show a pale faced Gaga lying in a hospital bed, practicing ballet, throwing a naked tantrum, and hanging upside down out of a car window. The music starts at about the 9:00 mark.

Lady Gaga may be one of the recognizable and talked about faces on the planet at the moment but she can’t hold a candle to the Charles Shultz classic A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

The popular show which was being shown for a 38th year in a row managed to best A Very Gaga Thanksgiving. 

According to Newsbusters the cartoon was so successful that it managed 400,000 more viewers than Gaga’s offering.

When all was said and done ABC’s Charlie Brown Thanksgiving took in 5.8 million viewers for a 1.8 rating while A Very Gaga Thanksgiving saw just 5.4 million viewers with a 1.6 rating.

While both numbers are impressive in their own respect they were no match for a rerun episode of The Big Bang Theory which took in 11.2 million viewers with a 3.6 adult demo rating.

In my house we own the Blu-ray versions of all the Peanuts holiday movies and my wife watches them obsessively.

Lady Gaga’s new tell-all photograph-based book with famed photographer Terry Richardson has hit shelves, and the quirky songstress says that tome cuts through the “farce” and offers information about the real Gaga.

Bearing in mind this is the same woman that claimed those weird bumps on her face are a natural response to her innate creativity, Gaga offers up some choice tidbits from the book. The singer comments on her love life, her parents and not having a house of her own. Of what draws her in men, Gaga muses:

“Talent and perseverance and pushing the boundaries of love and acceptance… I don’t know. I can’t really say. It ranges from a really big [expletive] to a degree at Harvard. Just about anything.”

Gaga also discussed why she doesn’t have an apartment, and where she sleeps when she’s off-tour. The Born This Way songstress says:

“I’m not ready to buy a house. It feels like marriage or something. It’s like such a commitment. I don’t like it… I do love being with my parents, but I also just really fear domestication. I just don’t have a home. I actually sleep [at] my best friend Bo’s, in her apartment a lot. She kicks her boyfriend onto the couch and it’s really funny. We stay up and watch movies.”

For those Gaga fans that want to buy the book, the quirky star says the new release should pique fans who want to up their Lady Gaga knowledge quotient. She opines:

“This is me in my most completely vulnerable state. Terry was with me during breakups, during get-togethers, during party times, sad times, landmark moments in my career. When I wake up in the morning, going to sleep… he was there during these completely unadulterated, unmanufactured, completely authentic moments… For those of you that ask me, ‘What do you look like in the morning?’ ‘What do you do when you get milk?’ ‘What do you look like at the grocery store?’ You’re going to get all of those answers in this book, because he doesn’t believe in farce.”

Every year, Santa Claus has to make a terribly long journey from the North Pole to houses around the world. Lady Gaga has chosen a more convenient location for her Christmas workshop. Lady Gaga’s workshop is at Barneys in New York.

Lady Gaga may not have elves or reindeer, but she does have a bunch of little monsters and the help of Japan fashion director Nicola Formichetti.

So what is Lady Gaga’s workshop churning out for Christmas? Gaga is forgoing the traditional red wagons and snow globes for a more “Nightmare Before Christmas” feel.

Gaga said:

“It’s a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory moment. We wanted it all to be whimsical and fun, with a sense of art and fashion. I wanted it to be a wide spectrum.”

The LA Times reports that Gaga’s Workshop opened at Barneys in New York on Monday. People can also order unique Christmas gift items from gagasworkshop.com. Gaga’s workshop is selling everything from iPod covers to suckers to Lady Gaga motorcycle ornaments and stiletto stockings.

The special Barneys selection will also be giving money to charity. According to News AU, Lady Gaga will be donating 25% of every sale to her anti-bullying foundation the “Born This Way Foundation.”

Well, cheap for Manhattan.

The one-bedroom, Lower East Side former apartment of inimitable pop star Lady Gaga has hit the competitive New York City real estate market, and is available to takers for a relatively modest $1,850 a month. While the rent rate might stimulate sticker shock in suburban folk, the one-bedroom LES digs that Lady Gaga called home early in her career are actually going at a fairly reasonable rate for real estate in Manhattan.

Of course, the rent at 176 Stanton Street has gone up since Gaga- real name Stefani Germanotta- called the apartment home years ago, when it was rented for a staggeringly low $1,100 a month. The quirky star attempted to visit her old home back in February when she did an interview with Anderson Cooper, but the apartment’s current resident did not want to allow cameras into the space when Gaga came a-knocking.

The singer talked about her time in the apartment when speaking to MTV a while back, describing her impetus to live and work on the Lower East Side before she was an international, meat-dress-wearing celebrity:

“It was like I had to go lick the ground [on the LES] for a few years to understand New York City and a whole different side of the pavement,… I wanted to live alone — live in solitude with my music,” Gaga said of her time in the neighborhood. “I wanted to read poetry and be overly dramatic about everything and that’s what I did.”

In September this year Lady Gaga turned to Twitter to rally a call for the end of bullying.

She tweeted her call, saying:

“Bullying must become illegal. It is a hate crime.”

Unfortunately, recent actions by some of Gaga’s fans do not seem to fit with their idol’s call for end to bullying. Her fans have gone on Twitter to bully Adele, MailOnline reports.

The reason: Adele poses a threat to Gaga as the bestselling artist in the world. Adele has already overtaken Lady Gaga, selling one in every 10 records this year, according to the report.

The mean tweets are mostly about Adele’s weight.

“Confirmed: Gaga will not be wearing her meat dress because she is afraid Adele will eat it.”

A video with a fake Adele singing also mocked Adele, singing:

“I’m bootyful in my own way because Arby’s makes nooo mistakes, I’ve got the right order, baby, I was born this weight.”

Gaga’s record label did not own to the bullying:

“Lady Gaga does not approve of bullying anyone for their physical appearance, it goes against everything she stands for. A tiny handful of fans may be letting her down.”

It was a big night for Lady Gaga after she picked up four awards during the MTV Europe Music Awards including a nod for best song (“Born This Way”).

After winning one of her awards she told the audience:

“Thank you for believing in my vision; the success of Born This Way has changed my life.”

Among the singers other awards were nods in the best female performer, best video and best fan supported categories.

Gaga also took to the stage to perform her song “Marry The Night” in which she wore a satellite-themed costume while performing on top of a giant moon sculpture.

Also in attendance was Justin Bieber who performed Under the Mistletoe as a show opener and then sat in the audience to support the shows host and current girlfriend Selena Gomez.

Also receiving some of the nights top awards was Bruno Mars (best push and best new categories), Katy Perry (best live act) and Linkin Park (best rock act).

In a surprising win BigBang won the best worldwide category over current songstress of the moment Adele who’s songs have dominated airwaves in many places around the world.

The biggest performance of the night? Queen took to the stage to perform a medley of their various hits.

Lady Gaga will be appearing on the nation’s screens this Thanksgiving, having agreed a deal to shoot a 90-minute show for ABC. ‘A Very Gaga Thanksgiving‘ will consist of interviews, performances, and special guests, and is due to air on November 24th.

The 25-year-old ‘Born This Way’ singer will be interviewed by Katie Couric for the show, which ABC is promising will shed light on the personal life of Lady Gaga.

There’ll also be eight songs performed in front of Gaga’s close friends and family, including singles ‘Marry the Night’, ‘You and I’ and ‘The Edge of Glory.’ Crooner Tony Bennett will be popping along as well for a duet of ‘The Lady is a Tramp’ (video below).

Special guests will include celebrity chef Art Smith, who will be helping Lady Gaga prepare a Thanksgiving spread of deep-fried turkey and waffles for her guests, which sounds reassuringly surreal and weirdly kitschy.

Lady Gaga on Wednesday announced the formation of the Born This Way foundation with the help of her mommy monster Cynthia Germanotta.

In a statement released by the foundation Gaga said:

“My mother and I have initiated a passion project. We call it the Born This WayFoundation … Together we hope to establish a standard of Bravery and Kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment.”

The foundation hopes to work with various partners to spread their message, included in those partnerships are the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and others.

The organization says their focus will be on “youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development and will utilize digital mobilization as one of the means to create positive change.”

Gaga’s foundation announcement comes just one day after Justin Bieber announced his Believe charity drive to help combat bullying. Bieber also announced that part of the proceeds from his recently released Christmas album Under the Mistletoe will also go to his charity drive.

Speaking of her group and their partners Gaga notes:

 ”Together we hope to establish a standard of Bravery and Kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment.”

Lady Gaga is expected to wear another food dress when she visits India this weekend. Activists from PETA have asked the pop singer to pose in a Lady Gaga lettuce dress to promote vegetarianism.

Lady Gaga hasn’t agreed to the request yet, but dressing up as a head of lettuce seems to be right down Gaga’s alley.

Sachin Bangera of PETA India, said:

“If she agrees, we’ll make her a dress entirely of lettuce and held together by pins and threads. It will be a full length gown, and we’ll make sure it looks sexy… Someone will be on hand to spray the lettuce with water so that it doesn’t wilt.”

And if anyone knows how to make a lettuce dress, it’s PETA. Pamela Anderson, Elizabeth Berkley, and Alyssa Milano have all posed in vegetarian dresses. Of course, they didn’t have to run around and sing.

Do you want to see Lady Gaga in a lettuce dress? If she does wear the vegetable dress, I really hope that the bread lobbyists step up their game and ask Lady Gaga to perform in dress made out of toast.

Reuters reports that Lady Gaga is traveling to India to unveil the country’s first Formula 1 race. While there, Gaga will perform at an invitation-only show in New Delhi, hopefully in a lettuce dress.
