Ever since Apple filed a patent lawsuit to block the sale of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and won, Samsung and Apple have been at each others’ throats, with Samsung trying their best to return the favor by making patent claims in an attempt to block the sale of the iPhone 4S in various regions.

For now, it looks like at least one of those battles will be coming to an end. An anonymous Samsung exec told The Chosunilbo that the company has decided to back down on their lawsuit in Korea.

“We concluded that we should engage in legal battles with Apple only in the global market, but not in order to gain more market share in Korea,” the exec told Chosunilbo.

Even if Samsung sticks with this apparently last-minute decision, this certainly won’t be the end of their feud with Apple. Just two months ago, news broke that Samsung was trying to hit Apple on the same turf that Samsung lost on by filing a patent suit that alleges both the iPhone and iPad 2 violate Samsung’s “wireless technology” patents.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is a huge hit in Korea where shoppers have helped set a one month sales record in the country by selling one million units during the first 30 days of release. At one million units that mean buyers purchased one of the Smartphones every three seconds.

To put that number into reference the company took 70 days to sell the same number of Galaxy S units.

The Galaxy S II managed to break 100,000 units in the first three days and never slowed.

Sorry to turn on the sad, but here’s a tragic reminder that, while we gamers may spend a lot of time defending our hobby against misguided accusations, a minority of people really shouldn’t be playing so intensively.

Associated Press reports that a 15-year-old boy in Busan, South Korea, has committed suicide after strangling his mother to death during an argument over ‘Internet games’. South Korean police official Jung Yo-il has revealed that the boy hung himself after killing his mother, who accused her son of playing games for too long.

The boy’s younger sister, who my heart truly bleeds for, later said her brother had been playing violent games “for the past two to three years.”

South Korea is possibly the most connected nation in the world, with over 90 per cent of homes having broadband Internet access. The result is a population with an estimated 2 million Internet addicts.

In a move that would have Orwell spinning in his grave, South Korea plans to crack down on gamers who play into the wee hours, by enforcing a nightly six-hour blackout on 19 different MMO games.

With South Korea gaining a growing reputation as a nation of gaming addicts, Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has stepped in, declaring that gamers will now have to back away from their computer for at least six hours each night.

Gamers will be able to choose a window: midnight to 6 a.m., 1 to 7 a.m., or 2 to 8 a.m.

Critics of the scheme – of which there are understandably plenty – suggest MMOs and games are being unfairly targeted, and it’s hard to disagree. As unwanted government interference goes, I genuinely can’t think of many more shocking examples from a supposedly developed democracy.

Well, if this report on c|net is any indication the Korean army may be in the process of leapfrogging anything that our American soldiers have at this point in time.

The new battle armor would provide protection from nuclear, biological and chemical attacks. As well as a totally reworked protective vest they would be outfitted with a bulletproof helmet that will be wired for video-cam transmission.

As far as the armament goes the rifle called the K-11; which could actually see real field usage before the body armour, is a double barreled assault rifle that lets them shoot either NATO 5.56 or 20 millimeter grenades; all from the same trigger. Apparently day and night aiming is done with a thermal target seeker that can calculate the distances automatically.
