There appears to be a new theme in Hollywood, remake Patrick Swayze films as much as possible. Okay maybe it’s not that drastic but Warner Bros. is taking a que from Dirty Dancing and remaking another one of the actor’s films, this time Point Break which also originally featured Keanu Reeves and Gary Busey.

In the original movie Keanu Reeves plays FBI agent Johnny Utah who works with his partner Angelo Pappas (Busey) to take down a team of bank robbers who dress as the “Ex-Presidents” of the United States. Utah is sent undercover to spy on the gang of surf loving robbers when he befriends gang leader Bodhi (Swayze) and eventually takes to the surfing lifestyle.

Warner Bros. was planning a remake until Swayze died of pancreatic cancer in 2009 and now the project, being helmed by Alcon Entertainment is moving forward.

According to the studio:

“The new version is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring.”

Sorry Alcon and Warner Bros. it’s not a remake of Point Break without the “break” and you can’t have that without the surfing.

We’ll probably have a while to wait before the movie actually reaches theaters, in the meantime here’s the trailer for 1991′s Point Break:

In addition to recently turning 47 (Aug. 2) and publishing “Ode to Happiness,” — his attempt to shed the “Keanu is sad” meme that follows him like a shadow –  earlier this June, Reeves is now looking forward to making his directorial debut.

Keanu, mainly known for his role in front of the camera, is now ready to step behind it, as thewrap.com reports the actor is currently in talks to direct “The Man of Tai Chi,” a film which he also plans to star in.

The movie, a Kung Fu flick set in the modern day world of underground flight clubs, will also star Tiger Chen, an experienced actor and stunt man who worked with Reeves in preparation for his role in the Matrix films.

Keanu, cast as the villain in the forthcoming martial arts movie, has admitted that it will not hold back on the punch ups.

“There’s 18 fights.” Reeves told MTV in an interview. “We’ve timed it out. It’s about 40 minutes of fighting. I want to make a good, solid kung fu movie. Good story, good plot — but let’s get some good kung fu going!”

In addition to his Man of Tai Chi gig, Keanu also just finished filming another passion project, a Hollywood version of the classic Japanese samurai-era story 47 Ronin, which has been described by screenwriter Chris Morgan as a “Gladiator-esque, 300-like big action movie with samurai and ninja.”

Reeves, who was abandoned by his father at the age of 3, has suffered a series of personal tragedies over the course of his life including the deaths of his long-term girlfriend and baby daughter.

In 2010, a picture taken of Reeves sitting alone on a bench eating a sandwich fuelled his lonely “sad Keanu” image and subsequently sparked a “Cheer up Keanu” campaign on Facebook.

Apparently the Beirut-born Matrix star himself found the infectious Internet meme funny and “inspiring,” as it caused him to pen a book that mocked his “Keanu is Sad” demeanor.

“Ode to Happiness” is a collection of inkblot paintings by Los Angeles-based artist Alexandra Grant – purposely made to look like they’ve been smeared via tears – accompanied by depressing statements from Reeves, like “I draw a hot sorrow bath”,  ”In my despair room”, “I hate myself face cream”, and “alone again silk pajamas”

Initially written and intended as a joke, the book quickly became high in demand, forcing the “Bill & Ted’s” actor to find a publisher to create a limited run of 4,000 copies. According to the Daily News, they’ve only been offered for sale in the U.K. so far.

Up next for Reeves? Another book: “Haikus of Hope.”

“Basically like, ‘I want to kill myself’, and go from there,” Reeves explains.

Bill & Ted are about to go on another adventure with the movies star Keanu Reeves announcing that a script for the new adventure is just 6 weeks away.

The last movie took place in 1991 when the boys from San Dimas went on a Bogus Journey, following their 1989 Excellent Adventure.

The movies quickly grabbed a cult following and a follow-up has been in the works for a while now, with Keanu telling MTV News:

“I believe the writers are six weeks away from a draft,” he went on to add, “I know a little bit. But I don’t know — the fellas went off and cooked it up. I don’t know what happened when they put the elements together.”

“When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn’t happened. So, they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back.”

It’s going to be weird seeing Bill and Ted all grown up, but I’m in.
