Despite his long (by Twitter standards) apology last night for crass and racially iffy remarks he made during an interview with Playboy, John Mayer busted into a surprise rendition of “I’m sorry I offended my black friends” during a show in Nashville the same evening.

Mayer, 32, was playing his song “Gravity” at Nashville’s Sommet Center when he abruptly paused and, as Us Magazine reports, became emotional while apologizing, partially directed at his black band mates. Mayer said:

“In the quest to be clever,” he began, “I completely forgot about the people that I love and that love me.”

He then said that he had entered a world of “selfishness and greediness and arrogance.” He said that he thought if he could just be “speedy and witty and pull together as many fast words and phrases as I could, that I would be clever enough to buy myself another day without anybody pinning me down and saying, ‘You’re a creep.’

“I should have just given that up and played the guitar,” he went on. “I didn’t. So I decided I would try to be as clever as possible all the time, and I did that at the expense of people that I love and that feels absolutely terrible. I think it’s important that you know that everybody on this stage is here playing with me not because they condone what I say in any interview … they’re on this stage because they support myself as a possible future grown-up…”

At this point, Us says, Mayer became “choked up” and continued on with his lengthiest apology ever:

“And maybe they see something that I don’t. So maybe I need to take a break from trying to be clever and spend a little time looking at what they see — because they’ve done an unbelievable thing by standing on this stage and standing by my side playing tonight.

“It’s just not worth being clever,” he said, adding: “I quit the media game. I’m out. I’m done. I just want to play my guitar.”

Mayer then paused for a time before resuming his set. Sources say the singer was moody and withdrawn backstage, and MTV reports that several rap stars, including Talib Kweli and Noreaga, have publicly criticized the mouthy balladeer for his remarks.

John Mayer, it seems your “hood pass” has been revoked.

I posted earlier about a Playboy interview with John Mayer that was picked up and passed around heavily on Twitter and blogs today. Mayer doesn’t hold back on a variety of topics in the interview, but among the topics discussed were Mayer’s penchant for sex with white women only and the singer’s “hood pass,” as he dubs it.

On his sexual habits, Mayer doesn’t mince words:

I don’t think I open myself to it. My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I’ve got a Benetton heart and a fuckin’ David Duke cock. I’m going to start dating separately from my dick.

That’s not all the guitar-balladeer has to say on the subject of race. Having worked with hip hop legends like Kanye West and Jay-Z, Mayer kind of thinks he’s “down” with the rap glitterati:

Someone asked me the other day, “What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?” And by the way, it’s sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a nigger pass. Why are you pulling a punch and calling it a hood pass if you really have a hood pass? But I said, “I can’t really have a hood pass. I’ve never walked into a restaurant, asked for a table and been told, ‘We’re full.’”

Presumably, a large uncomfortable silence followed those remarks. Mayer, a prolific Tweeter, has taken to the microblogging service to clarify his intent and apologize, though judging by tweets coming fast and furiously from the rest of Twitter, he’s been unsuccessful in quelling outrage. Mayer says:

Re: using the ‘N word’ in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it’s such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there’s no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged.

And while I’m using today for looking at myself under harsh light, I think it’s time to stop trying to be so raw in interviews… It started as an attempt to not let the waves of criticism get to me, but it’s gotten out of hand and I’ve created somewhat of a monster. I wanted to be a blues guitar player. And a singer. And a songwriter. Not a shock jock. I don’t have the stomach for it.

Again, because I don’t want anyone to think I’m equivocating: I should have never said the word and I will never say it again.

Strummy guitar dude John Mayer talked man-whoring, sexual napalm and his racist dangle with Playboy in an interview that’s been very popular on Twitter this morning.

In the interview, Mayer, 32, offers up honest commentary on his high profile relationships, repeatedly professes his passion for jacking off and love for pornography and also addresses his reputation as a “douchebag” and a “manwhore.” Feminists are having a mini-wank over the somewhat misogynistic tone of a few of Mayer’s comments, but his comments about women and race are certainly the most talked about:

PLAYBOY: Do black women throw themselves at you?

MAYER: I don’t think I open myself to it. My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I’ve got a Benetton heart and a fuckin’ David Duke cock. I’m going to start dating separately from my dick.

Mayer dished on Jessica Simpson something fierce, explicitly describing the former Mrs. Lachey’s sexual charms:

MAYER: …that girl is like crack cocaine to me.

PLAYBOY: You were addicted to Jessica Simpson?

MAYER: Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm.

PLAYBOY: But before you dated her you thought of yourself as the kind of guy who would never date Jessica Simpson.

MAYER: That’s correct. There are people in the world who have the power to change our values. Have you ever been with a girl who made you want to quit the rest of your life? Did youever say, “I want to quit my life and just fuckin’ snort you? If you charged me $10,000 to fuck you, I would start selling all my shit just to keep fucking you.”

Mayer also speaks at length about his failed relationship with Jennifer Aniston (expressing a lot of guilt and regret each time), his very gay moment involving Perez Hilton and his desire to “write pornography.” I found it difficult to dislike the guy reading the article, even not being a massive fan of his music. Something about his honesty is appealing, despite coming off as pretty heavily self-absorbed. It’s a pretty interesting interview, and you can read it in its entirety on the Playboy website.

Fresh from a Twitter related break-up with Jennifer Aniston, John Mayer is reported to have taken up with Scheana Marie Jancan.

23-year-old Jancan is an occasional model who also managed to be a runner-up in a Hawaiian Tropic Pageant. Mayer is said to have met her at the Grand Havana Room in Beverly Hills where Jancan works as a waitress.

A source quoted in Star Magazine spilled the beans: “Scheana was shocked and thrilled when John asked her out. She has always thought he was hot, and she said yes right away, writing down her cell phone number on a napkin.They flirted the whole time, and he told her she was cute.”

The latest split between on-again, off-again Hollywood power couple Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer is being attributed to Twitter!

According to The Telegraph, Aniston split from Mayer after she discovered that while he was telling her that he was too busy to see her, he was busy updating his Twitter account.

A source claimed Aniston decided Mayer was not committed enough to her and called time on their romance having found hourly updates on his Twitter page.

The source said: “John suddenly stopped calling her or returning her emails and when she would finally catch up with him, he’d say: ‘I’ve been so busy with work. I’m sorry I haven’t had time to call you back.”
The source added: “Jen was fuming. There he was, telling her he didn’t have time for her and yet his page was filled with Twitter updates.

“Every few hours, sometimes minutes, he’d update with some stupid line. And in her mind, she was like ‘He has time for all this Twittering, but he can’t send me a text, an email, make a call?’.”

Over the weekend break, John made sure to let us know exactly what he was doing to get ready for the engagement we’ve been hearing about via gossip rag buzz. “Visiting the Diamond Exchange in Tustin,” and “Welding an engagement ring for my girlfriend” were two tweets that popped up this weekend: does he really expect us to believe he was soldering a ring for his sweetheart? John doesn’t strike me as the type.

Is John just messing with the media, or could he actually be trying to throw us off the scent with his OTT Twitter-fests?

Jennifer’s been making the rounds for Marley & Me for the longest time, thanks to the date being pushed back again (and again), but at least she’s spicing it up with an expletive or two! She and co-star Owen Wilson were interviewed for USA Today, and it sounds like she made him pretty uncomfortable after being asked about the public’s fascination with her personal life:

“I am honestly getting sick of it, and I feel like telling people, ‘You know what? It’s none of your (expletive) business.’ Seriously, it’s enough. It’s like we’re appealing to the lowest …

And this is at a time when we should be so inspired and excited with what’s happening with the president. It’s a time to be positive and join together. We’re just trying to entertain you, man. Don’t shoot the messenger.”

I think she should go the “no comment” route so these things don’t go full-circle. Or we can just wait, because Jen hopes that we’ll realize that she has “a job and [she's...] an actress.” The good actress bit’s going to hang in the balance a little while longer, I think.

Not only is Jennifer still reliving her relationship drama (which may or may not be acceptable, depending on which camp you’re with), but she’s also back to talking about Friends! Oh, the agony: Jen hit the New York Times Magazine to talk about old stuff again, which is a healthy thing to do at this point under extreme scrutiny. Sure.

“There are times I don’t even remember that particular show. This is horrible to say, but there are times when I laugh my rear end off. And I get in debates with people who are over and say, ‘Friends’ is not my thing.’ Excuse you!”

Is Jen still dreaming about her heydey? Maybe dating John Mayer does that to you. What happened to her Marley & Me promotions? I think she should get back to those or just talk more about He’s Just Not That Into You, because I’d be happy with comments about anything post-2004.

OK! reports that Carrie Underwood might be paying extra attention to her rival Jessica:

If I ignore the conflicting reports (flaunting her single self vs. being engaged), I can concentrate on the ridiculousness that is this OK! mag report. They’ve made Jennifer Aniston out to be a heroine of the dating world, when what she was really doing was shopping and sightseeing:

“Indeed, Jen spent the next few days showing just how happy she was to be single, wearing flattering outfits and going shopping. She also spent time soaking in some culture, walking the halls of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on, where she spent over an hour admiring one exhibit.”

There’s a grain of truth to the lightweight sensationalism, even if it does describe Jen as “‘openly encouraging the attention, smiling, showing off her body, and creating photo ops’”: I’d be happy to be single after my ex gave everyone blow-by-blow account of the breakup. Maybe Jennifer’s not flaunting her singleness as much as rejoicing the fact that she’s escaped from such a cad. Now that I can believe.

“John took the decision to end things as he felt he just wasn’t ready for the level of commitment that Jennifer deserved. Contrary to reports, Jen didn’t want to have kids or marry this year, but she did want to set a timetable for their future together.”

Jennifer Aniston should be careful– it looks like John Mayer is on the prowl. According to a fascinating In Touch Weekly blurb, Mayer approached Chaton Anderson in Amserdam, and told her “I am John and I am a singer.” Nice pick-up line, John. And he didn’t stop there:

“I laughed because I knew who he was,” Chaton, 32, also was aware that he has been dating Jen. “I asked him what his relationship status was,” she explains. “He said, ‘It’s vague.’ I asked him what that meant and he said, ‘You know, it’s very vague.’ I just laughed. I never mentioned Jennifer and neither did he.”

But here’s the best part: she gave him her real number! It’s too bad that her cell was stolen, because I would love to hear whether or not John was dumb enough to call her two days before his “vague” girlfriend Jennifer Aniston arrived in Amsterdam.

There was an article published about John Mayer that starts off “It’s hard not to hate John Mayer.” I would like to second that.

John Mayer isn’t winning any brownie points with us, especially now that he’s charging his fans to take pictures of him. Wow, a new low! He must be proud, because many of us were sure that he couldn’t get any worse.

John was spotted in Hollywood on Tuesday shopping at a camera store when his (unlucky) fan approached: “I just charged her $10 for a shot,” Mayer said to the shop attendant after the woman paid him for his pic. “I know my value. I know what I’m worth.”

Why doesn’t he just sell out to People or OK! and be done with it? At least he could get some real money. Now this guy really is a douchebag.
