Matt Damon has reportedly backed out of the movie that was supposed to be his directorial debut.

News of Damon’s planned debut behind the camera first emerged in October 2011, when it was revealed an untitled John Krasinski and Dave Eggers movie would star – and be directed by – the Bourne trilogy star. Damon was all set to play a salesman whose life would be shook up following his arrival in a small town.

However, it now seems Damon’s involvement as director is in doubt, due to issues related to the script. The strange thing? Damon co-wrote the script with Krasinski (while the idea for the movie came jointly from Krasinski and Eggers). A source close to the project told Vulture that Damon would no longer direct the film, but that he would still star in it. Confused? Yeah, join the club.

Thankfully, it’s not looking like the $12 million production is dead in the water yet, with Damon expected to star alongside Krasinski and the excellent Frances McDormand. The group involved are already quite friendly it would seem – Damon co-starred alongside Krasinski’s wife, Emily Blunt, in The Adjustment Bureau.

Anyway, with a blue ribbon name like Damon still on board, the film’s survival was always likely, but it might be a while longer before we see the star of Good Will Hunting do a Jolie and get cushy in the director’s chair. Look for more on this mysterious project in 2012, I guess …

Matt Damon’s been talking about trying his hand at directing for the past several months, and now it looks like he’s going to get his shot at it – but not with the project that everyone thought he would make his debut in.

Variety learned that Damon penned a script for an untitled legal alongside The Office star John Krasinski, and the report states that Damon is set to produce, direct and star in the film.

The film, which sees Damon playing the role of a salesman whose life comes into question when he arrives at a small town, is reportedly the brainchild of Krasinski and author Dave Eggers, one of the writers behind Away We Go, which Krasinski starred in.

The movie is said to setting up at Warner Bros., but Variety notes that as of now Warner Bros. has yet to greenlight the project. The team is currently working on finishing up a script “within a month”, and preliminary plans are to shoot somewhere on the East Coast.

Damon, whose next on-screen appearance will be We Bought a Zoo, was originally expected to make his directorial debut with Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses which, as it happens, also stars Krasinski, but Variety was told that he’ll instead make his debut with the new, yet-to-be-named project.

Over the weekend the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox have been battling it out in one of baseball’s favorite feuds and joining in the fun of that rivalry has been baseball fans and A-List actors Alec Baldwin and John Krasinski who have been airing ads in support of their teams.

Right now it’s Baldwin who’s winning the feud after photoshopping a picture of Krasinski (a Red Sox fan) in a bikini and then putting the ad on display at Yankee Stadium.

The actors are using New Era ads to show off the rivalry that exists between the two cities after they began trash talking each others teams way back in April, trash talking that led to Baldwin punching Krasinski and a funny ad featuring Krasinski painting Baldwin’s dog with the Red Sox logo, only to find out that the dog actually belongs to Baldwin’s neighbor.

The celebrity gossip sites are all a twitter with news that Emily Blunt is dating that guy from The Office, John Krasinski, who plays the character Jim.

A source revealed to Star Magazine that earlier this month the new lovebirds spent a weekend at a Santa Barbara ranch.

“They ordered room service, took long walks and spent every second together. John really cares for Emily — he totally fawns over her. And she’s loving the attention. She’s a down-to-earth girl, but it’s nice to be treated so well,” said the unnamed source.

Emily Blunt who was fabulous in The Devil Wears Prada broke up with Michaee Buble back in April.  Does that make John a rebound guy?  We think likely, because John sure looks like Michael.  Check it out
