The Boston Bruins were recently invited to the White House to celebrate their Stanley Cup victory with the president and some of congress’ biggest hockey fans. John Kerry decided to honor the team by showing up to the White House with a few hockey injuries of his own.

Kerry sported a broken nose and two black eyes during the ceremony last night. Kerry, 68, received his injuries during a recreational hockey game with some of his friends. So did John Kerry drop his gloves on his ice? Did he have his shirt pulled over his head? According to the Boston Globe, Kerry’s broke his nose when a rogue  high stick hit him in the face.

Spokesperson Whitney Smith said that Kerry has been playing hockey for decades. He’s also a veteran participant in the Congressional Hockey Challenge, which raises money for the Fort Dupont Hockey Club.

Smith told ABC News:

“He’s totally fine. Very ironically he busted his nose recently playing ice hockey, so the Bruins can certainly relate.”

Kerry didn’t offer any details about who hit him with the stick, if it was a member of congress, or if any penalty minutes were handed out.

John Kerry was happy to attend the ceremony for the Boston Bruins, Tim Thomas, however, declined the White House’s offer.

The Super Committee, which was supposed to negotiate at least $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction measures, announced yesterday that a compromise was impossible between Republicans and Democrats. But was the Super Committee a failure? Grover Norquist sees it as a victory.

Which isn’t really surprising.

Grover Norquist is one of the most powerful Republican lobbyists in Washington. Norquist, who runs Americans for Tax Reform, has had many Republican congress members sign a pledge to never raise taxes.

Senator John Kerry told CNN:

“Grover Norquist has been the 13th member of the (super committee) without being there. I can’t tell you how often we hear about the pledge.”

The Guardian reports that Norquist prides himself on the fact that he has single-handedly prevented Republicans from voting for any tax increases for the last two decades.

Norquist said:

 ”I think it worked out as well as one could expect it to. I think we [Republicans] are in reasonably good shape. This is all in anticipation of the election.”

Now that the Super Committee has failed, the government will automatically start making cuts from military and domestic spending budgets beginning in 2013. Norquist has no problem with those cuts and applauds the GOP members of the Super Committee for not falling into Obama’s trap.

Norquist said:

“Obama thinks he can trick the Republicans into raising taxes by threatening to cut defense. I do not think Republicans will fall into that trap.”

According to the Guardian, 238 out of the 242 Republicans in the House have signed Norquist’s pledge to never raise taxes. 41 out of the 47 Republican senators have also signed the pledge. Out of the GOP candidates for President, all of them have signed Norquist’s pledge.

36-year-old Alexandra Kerry was arrested in Hollywood early today on suspicion of driving under the influence.

You may remember Kerry, daughter of Senator John Kerry, for her sheer dress on the red carpet at Cannes in 2004. She was pulled over for a routine traffic stop in Hollywood at 12:40 am and failed a sobriety test:

“Officers detected signs and symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol,” said Officer Bruce Borihanh of LAPD.

Kerry was booked at the Hollywood police station and held until 5:30 am when she posted $5,000 in bail. Borihanh did not immediately release other details, such as blood alcohol content. However, TMZ is reporting that Kerry’s BAC was 0.6, under the legal limit of 0.8. While that minor level of intoxication can be prosecuted should the driver be operating the vehicle erratically, TMZ also indicates that the charges against Alexandra Kerry are likely to be dropped.

In addition to her work on Sen. Kerry’s failed presidential bid in 2004, Alexandra Kerry is a film producer and director.

Failed 2004 Democrat Presidential Candidate Senator John Kerry will focus hearings of the US Senate Commerce Committee next week on the state of the newspaper industry.

Kerry said in a letter to the Boston Globe, which is under threat of closure by parent The New York Times Company, that:

“America’s newspapers are struggling to survive and while there will be serious consequences in terms of the lives and financial security of the employees involved, including hundreds at the Globe, there will also be serious consequences for our democracy where diversity of opinion and strong debate are paramount…

The emphasis is mine, but it’s the key line: Kerry is seriously suggesting that the death of newspapers threatens diversity of opinion and debate, which in turn is a threat to American democracy.

Someone needs to send Kerry a laptop with a mobile broadband card, because anyone who has ever been on the internet knows that diversity of opinion and strong debate has never been stronger than at any time in human history. The internet is by its nature the great enabler, a medium that has given voice to millions over the restricted voice of an elite media owning few, as was the case only 20 years ago.

There’s a reason he lost in 2004, and another reason he shouldn’t be in charge of anything remotely serious today: he qualifies in the villiage idiot stakes.
