Joe the Plumber is crawling out from under the sink, pulling up his pants, and hanging up his tool belt. Samuel “Joe” Wurzelbacher, who gained fame during the 2008 presidential campaign for being a “hardworking Joe,” is running for congress.

Joe the Plumber announced his intention to run for Congress earlier this month, but he’s going to make it official today. Yahoo reports that Samuel (yeah, his name isn’t really Joe) has filed the paperwork and is set to announce his candidacy for Ohio’s ninth congressional district.

Joe the Plumber said:

“Maybe we need some regular guys in there… That’s what I’ve been doing the past two and a half years, just encouraging regular Americans to run. Tell the liberal media to go to hell, and I don’t care what you guys say about me, I’m going to try to fix this country.”

Wurzelbacher will have to beat Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur if he wants to represent the ninth district. But Kaptur, who has been representing the district since 1983, isn’t too worried about Joe the Plumber.

Kaptur’s spokesman Steve Fought, said:

“His name’s not Joe, he’s not a plumber, and he doesn’t live in the new Ninth District… In other words, he’s the perfect Republican candidate.”

During the last few years Wurzelbacher has written a book and has been traveling the Tea Party circuit to talk at rallies. He told a crowd in Nevada last year:

“Being a politician is as good as being a weatherman. You don’t have to be right, you don’t have to do your job well, but you’ll still have a job.”

Is that what Joe the Plumber is seeking? A job that he doesn’t have to be good at?

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher busted out onto the national scene when John McCain dubbed him “Joe The Plumber” and tried to use him against Barack Obama during the last election cycle and now we’ve learned that “Joe” has launched a 2012 congressional campaign. Wurzelbacher filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Elections Commission.

Filed under “Joe for Congress 2012″ his candidacy was submitted on Friday, although FEC copies of his submission have not yet been released onto the agencies website.

In 2010 Wuzelbacher said he might run in Ohio’s Ninth District where he would face Democrat Marcia Kaptur who has held the seat since 1983.

It’s still unclear what type of platform Samuel will run on, what we do know is that he gained the attention of John McCain and the GOP when he spoke out against Barack Obama’s tax plans which Joe believed would hurt his small plumbing business.

It should be noted that Obama’s plan at the time would only have raised taxes on businesses making more than $250,000 annually, an amount that “Joe The Plumber” was not even close to realizing. If this guys as bad at reading a bills actual facts as he is at competing against a long-standing congressional leader in his district he’ll fade as quickly as he rose to the national platform.

I hear he’ll be running on the “leaky pipe” platform.

Sam “Joe The Plumber” Wurzelbacher received 15 minutes of fame when GOP presidential hopeful John McCain used him to portray President Obama as an enemy of the working man during the last presidential election cycle and now he may turn that 15 minutes into a run for Congress.

Speaking to The Ticket during an interview on Thursday Sam said of his run for congress:

“I’m not ruling anything out,” while adding that it would be an “interesting idea”

Wurzelbacher says many people have asked him to run for office, however he has spent much of his time recently on the speaker’s circuit.

Sam went on to add:

“I like the idea of it — just regular Americans running. If a regular guy runs, right away the media’s going to attack him,” Wurzelbacher said. “What kind of education does he have? What does he know about this? My answer to that is, regular Americans aren’t experts, but dammit, look where the experts have gotten us. Maybe we need some regular guys in there. That’s what I’ve been doing the past two and a half years, just encouraging regular Americans to run. Tell the liberal media to go to hell and I don’t care what you guys say about me, I’m going to try to fix this country.”

While the idea is not a bad one, Joe is hardly an “average joe” anymore, having spent the last 3 years speaking to groups of people with an agent by his side.

If Sam does run he’ll have to unseat a 30-year veteran in Marcy Kaptur who won 60 percent of the vote in 2010 and 74 percent in 2008.

Local Republicans currently say their is a 90 percent chance Sam will enter the race.

It was bad enough that this irritation on our sensibilities was the poster child of the McCain campaign. It was laughable when Pajamas Media sent him to Israel to report back on the pulse of the Average Joe Israeli. One would have hoped that after his foray into the world of punditry for the conservative blog network that he would finally slide back into oblivion.

Well so much for that dream because it seems that once more this blight on media – old or new – is back in the picture thanks to the Conservative Working Group. Yes folks Joe the Plumber is back and he will be the featured guest for the meeting on Tuesday that the organization of Capital Hill staffers, who gather regularly to chart out GOP strategy.

According to Chez over at Dues Ex Malcontent the most insane thing that has happened in journalism and blogging is coming to pass. Remember Joe the Plumber – of course you do even though you probably don’t want to – well he has been hired by PajamasMedia. His job – to head over to the war in Gaza and report back and let Israel’s “Average Joes share their story”

For those that might not recognize the name PajamasMedia it is a mini-conglomeration of conservative new media. Now I tried to find anything on this at the PajamasMedia site but when I tried to search I ended up with an error page so I’ll leave it up to you to verify if this is indeed a fact. Mind you doing a Google search for Joe The Plumber is turning up all kinds of references to the story

If it is true I’m not sure if this could be consider a travelling comedy show or not. Joe the Plumber .. war correspondent .. wow.

The Columbus Dispatch discovered that three users pulled up Joe Wurzelbacher’s information from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles database in the days following the October 15 debate. The accounts used were tied to the office of Ohio’s attorney general, the county’s Child Support Enforcement Agency, and the Toledo Police Department, the paper reports.

Here’s the problem: Those records are supposed to be directly accessed only for “legitimate law enforcement and government business.” While it’s not clear specifically who used the accounts and for what purpose, it seems unlikely that there were three separate legit reasons why Joe Wurzelbacher’s records needed to be accessed in that short window of time. The fingers are already pointing. An Ohio McCain spokesman has placed the blame on the Obama campaign — a charge the Democratic team firmly denies.

Whoever did the digging did appear to try to cover their tracks. The Dispatch says at least one of the accounts was a “test account” not tied to a specific person. Could it have just been some random cubicle zombie’s curiosity? Or was there some political motivation, either by a Republican or a Democrat? Certainly, if that does prove to be the case, it’s still quite possible the culprit was acting on their own accord and has no direct affiliation with either campaign.

In any event, we’re likely to hear more before long. The investigation could turn “criminal in nature,” a spokesperson for the attorney general’s office indicates.

The hottest name from tonight’s Presidential Debate was “Joe the Plumber,” named over a dozen times by McCain, and several times by Obama.

So who is Joe the Plumber, besides becoming a likely candidate for Halloween Costume, at least according to some on FriendFeed.

Joe the Plumber is Joe Wurzelbacher, a plumber from Toledo, Ohio who asked Barack Obama a question on the campaign trail Sunday.

We try not to take sides on politics on this site, so we’ll make no political comment other than to show the video of the worlds most famous plumber, at least for the next couple of days, meeting Presidential candidate Barack Obama.
