Hold the press!  Joe Biden was one of several Democrats who was against giving the go order for the SEAL team to take out Osama Bin Laden.  In this case though, you can never underestimate a President whose approval rating are in the toilet.  President Obama gave the order and Osama is history.

In a speech delivered over the weekend at a Democratic congressional retreat, Biden recalled the moment when the vote was taken.  Biden said,

“Every single person in that room hedged their bet except Leon Panetta. Leon said go. Everyone else said, 49, 51. He got to me. He said, ‘Joe, what do you think?’ And I said, ‘You know, I didn’t know we had so many economists around the table.’ I said, ‘We owe the man a direct answer. Mr. President, my suggestion is, don’t go. We have to do two more things to see if he’s there,’”

It would be interesting if he had told the conference what type of proof he wanted to see.

Biden used the moment as an excuse to praise the President saying,

“It says less about bin Laden than it does about character about this guy leading from behind–this guy doesn’t lead from behind, he just leads,”

The possible raid was so secret that the president did not tell his wife before it happened.

At his State of the Union Address President Obama recounted that moment and said,

“One of my proudest possessions is the flag that the SEAL Team took with them on the mission to get Bin Laden. On it are each of their names. Some may be Democrats. Some may be Republicans. But that doesn’t matter. Just like it didn’t matter that day in the Situation Room, when I sat next to Bob Gates — a man who was George Bush’s defense secretary; and Hillary Clinton, a woman who ran against me for president. All that mattered that day was the mission. No one thought about politics. No one thought about themselves.”

Vice President Joe Biden admitted during a weekend retreat that he advised President Obama not to launch the U.S. mission against the Osama bin Laden compound that eventually led to bin Ladens assassination.

Speaking at the Democratic congressional retreat Biden said he has some lingering uncertainties about whether bin Laden was actually in the Pakistan complex. He goes on to say that when President Obama asked his top officials for their final decision everyone was hesitant except for CIA director (now Defense Secretary) Leon Panetta who gave an immediate invade vote.

“Every single person in that room hedged their bet except Leon Panetta. Leon said go. Everyone else said, 49, 51.”

Biden continued

“He got to me. He said, ‘Joe, what do you think?’ And I said, ‘You know, I didn’t know we had so many economists around the table.’ I said, ‘We owe the man a direct answer. Mr. President, my suggestion is, don’t go. We have to do two more things to see if he’s there.’”

The vice president didn’t say what those “two more things” were but did note that the next morning National Security Advisor Tom Donilon gave the “go” command to launch the SEAL raid that led to Osama bin Laden’s death.

As Biden pointed out with Obama’s decision:

“He knew what was at stake, not just the lives of those brave warriors, but literally the presidency.”

Joe Biden has done it again (I never really get tired of saying that).  While giving a speech in New Hampshire Biden decided to put on an Indian accent to mimick a call center employee.

“How many times you get the call, ‘I like to talk to you about your credit card? Or that ad on TV, what is it? ‘Nancy, this is Nancy, can I talk to a supervisor?’”

Biden is no stranger to putting his foot in his mouth.

Joe Biden Mimicks Foreign Accent in Speech [Video] is a post from: The Inquisitr

Vice President Joe Biden’s brother Francis Biden, 57, was hospitalized over the weekend after a package arrived at him home that was full of a white powder substance.

The package arrived at Francis’ Ocean Ridge, Florida home and poured out onto his skin as he opened the box. After the powder was released officials from the FBI sealed off the street and began evacuating neighbors for a period of 8 hours after Biden and his girlfriend were taken to the hospital for testing.

While his girlfriend was quickly released (she didn’t come in direct contact with the powder), Francis was held overnight, Biden confirmed the reasoning behind his late release noting:

“I was the only one who came in contact with the powder, so they kept me.”

After a 24 hour observation period Biden was released from the hospital with no ill effects.

According to FBI officials the package was sent from somewhere in India.

Francis Biden runs a non-profit organization that operates a tuition-free charter school in Florida for troubled students. When asked what else was contained in the package Biden told the Palm Beach Post that all questions about what else was found discovered should be directed to FBI officials who are currently investigating the incident.

An entire street isolated and evacuated, an ongoing investigation into the exact whereabouts of the powder, do you feel as if this type of attention would have been paid to the white powder had it been delivered to a “regular citizens” home instead of the brother of the Vice President of the United States.

Vice President Joe Biden- partially known for his verbal gaffes, providing an interesting contrast to the more eloquent Commander in Chief- is taking his schtick to Twitter.

Which naturally prompts the question- is Twitter the best vehicle for the notoriously conversationally-clumsy VP? While political Twittering will probably be haunted by the spectre of Weinergate for some time, it appears Biden may not pose too much of a risk to himself or others using the microblogging service- tweets will be staff posted, according to the Christian Science Monitor, and likely vetted if not entirely composed by underlings.

Biden’s first tweet on July 4th even included a shout out to the official White House Twitter account:

Just like its 16-bit forebear, the 2010 remake of basketball classic NBA Jam will feature a ton of hidden characters, including its share of politicians.

There’s an even spread of Democrats and Republicans, including Obama, Palin, Dubya Bush, Dick Cheney, and Joe Biden. Neatly, there’s also a return for Bill Clinton, who appeared in the first Jam game in 1994 (and yeah, Hilary’s there). All good, clean fun, and I’m loving the technique of using hi-res 2D photos for the heads:

NBA Jam arrived on Wii earlier this week, incidentally, and seems to be getting a good response. If you want to dunk Palin as Obama on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, those versions are out later this year.

41-year-old Beau Biden, Attorney General for the state of Delaware and son of Joe Biden, has been hospitalized for a headache and “some discomfort” at Christiana Hospital in Delaware.

The younger Biden was scheduled to speak tonight on the topic “My Life in Public Service,” but that engagement has been canceled due to his hospitalization. ABC News ran a statement from Joe Biden’s office:

The statement from the Vice President’s office said Beau is “alert and awake, and communicating with his parents and his wife, who are with him,” but it did not indicate the specific reason for the treatment.

Biden, who served a year in Iraq as a captain in the Delaware Army National Guard’s 261st Signal Brigade, considered a run this November for his father’s Senate seat in Delaware before deciding to remain in his spot as Delaware Attorney General. Beau Biden addressed the decision in a letter to supporters in January:

“I have a duty to fulfill as Attorney General – and the immediate need to focus on a case of great consequence. And that is what I must do. Therefore I cannot and will not run for the United States Senate in 2010. I will run for reelection as Attorney General.”

Joe Biden underwent two surgeries for life-threatening brain aneurysms when he was four years older than Beau is now, at the age of 45.

That would appear not to be the case, as Facebook friends of Barack Obama will tell you. (Yes, I am one- homeboy and me are tight.) Today, we all got linked to the official Organizing for America page to take part in a vote for shirts that feature a few different phrases commemorating the hard-fought and much criticized new laws cracking down on insurance companies. In addition to “Yes We Can,” “This Is What Change Looks Like,” and “I Stand With The President” is one shirt, pictured above, proudly trumpeting “Health Reform is a BFD.”

While the shirt will probably only serve to inflame partisan anger on the contentious issue, I have to say, nice job, Mr. President. I personally think this is exactly the kind of “sit down and shut up” attitude the executive branch needs to get things done in this atmosphere. What do you think? Totally tasteless or hell, yes we can?

Vice President Joe Biden has a bit of a problem with speaking before thinking.

President Obama famously poked fun at Biden for the tendency when roasting the VP at a dinner, and it seems Biden has landed himself in trouble again for his lack of verbal decorum. During the event today when President Obama signed the new healthcare bill into law today, Biden didn’t stop himself from telling the POTUS how he really felt:

Vice President Joe Biden, perhaps overcome with excitement during his speech congratulating President Obama on the passage of health care reform, dropped an F-bomb on live television when he turned to Obama and said, “This is a big f*cking deal.”

Well, in fairness to Biden, it kind of is. It doesn’t seem to have offended the powers that be too much, as Press Secretary Robert Gibbs addressed the gaffe in a tweet:

Vice-President Joe Biden’s mother has died at the age of 92 after falling ill.

Catherine “Jean” Biden passed away surrounded by her family in Wilmington, Delaware. Biden spoke of his mother’s influence on him during a 2008 speech at the Democratic National Convention:

“As a child I stuttered and she lovingly would look at me and tell me ‘Joey, it’s because you’re so bright you can’t get the thoughts out quickly enough.’ When I wasn’t as well-dressed as the other kids she would look at me and say ‘Joey, oh, you’re so handsome, honey, you’re so handsome.’ And when I got knocked down by guys bigger than me, and this is the God’s truth, she sent me back out and said ‘Bloody their nose so you can walk down the street the next day!’”

The White House released a statement to announce her passing:

My mother, Catherine Eugenia “Jean” Finnegan Biden, passed away peacefully today at our home in Wilmington, Delaware, surrounded by her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and many loved ones. At 92, she was the center of our family and taught all of her children that family is to be treasured, loyalty is paramount and faith will guide you through the tough times. She believed in us, and because of that, we believed in ourselves. Together with my father, her husband of 61 years who passed away in 2002, we learned the dignity of hard work and that you are defined by your sense of honor. Her strength, which was immeasurable, will live on in all of us.

Biden’s father Joseph Biden Sr. died in 2002 at  the age of 86.

Biden Bunker Revelation

Joe Biden apparently discussed the secret bunker during a Gridiron Club dinner. Reports suggest the vice president described an emergency hiding spot beneath the official vice presidential home, the former U.S. Naval Observatory. The location is believed to be where Dick Cheney was taken in the days following the 9/11 attacks.

A story by Newsweek editor Eleanor Clift states that Biden said he was recently given a tour of the facility. It is “behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment,” she writes.

“The officer explained that when Cheney was in lock down, this was where his most trusted aides were stationed, an image that Biden conveyed in a way that suggested we shouldn’t be surprised that the policies that emerged were off the wall,” Clift says.

The video has been viewed by several news agencies, and is being shopped for $250,000. The video starts with a man cutting up five lines cocaine, then handing over a rolled-up dollar bill to the woman (Biden) who then snorts the cocaine. It’s claimed that the video was shot at a party, and the camera was hidden.

RadarOnline, who broke the story haven’t 100% confirmed that it was Ashley Biden, but claims that “the woman looks identical to Ashley Biden.”

Ashley Biden is a social worker employed by the Delaware Department of Children, Youth and Families, and in 2008 was named a Person to Watch by Delaware Today. There’s no official word yet from The White House or the Vice President.

Jill Biden, wife of soon to be sworn in Vice President Joe Biden let a little secret out of the bag on Oprah earlier today: Joe was offered Secretary of State along with his Vice Presidential position.

“Joe had the choice to be secretary of state or vice president,” she said. Her husband turned to his wife with his finger to his lips and a “Shhhh!” that sent the audience into laughter. “OK, he did,” Jill Biden said in her defense.

The vice president-elect blushed, grimaced and gave his wife a hug while the audience continued to erupt in laughter. “That’s right,” he finally said to his wife. “Go ahead.”

Mrs. Biden said she told him vice president would be better for the family.

“If you’re secretary of state, you’ll be away, we’ll never see you, you know,” she said. “I’ll see you at a state dinner once in a while.”
