In 1993, River Phoenix was filming a movie called “Dark Blood.” But 11 days before filming wrapped on the movie Phoenix died of a drug-induced heart attack outside of the Viper Club in Los Angeles. Director George Sluizer announced today he plans on completing the movie 18 years after the actor’s death.

Sluizer said that after Phoenix died he hid all of the “Dark Blood” footage fearing that it would get destroyed. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sluizer has re-edited the film and, with a few creative adjustments, he believes that “Dark Blood” can be completed this year.

Sluizer says that he plans on asking River Phoenix’s brother, Joaquin Phoenix, to tie the movie together with a voice over.

Sluiser told THR:

“The voices of both brothers are very much alike.”

The Guardian reports that Phoenix played a hermit living on a nuclear test site named Boy. Boy, who is convinced that the world is going to end, starts a relationship with a married woman played by Judy Davis. The movie also stars Jonathan Pryce, who plays Davis’ husband.

When River Phoenix died at the age of 23, he was at the beginning of an extremely promising career. He earned critical praise for his roles in Rob Reiner’s ”Stand by Me” and Gus van Sant’s “My Own Private Idaho.” He was also nominated for an Oscar in 1998 for his role in “Running on Empty.”

The Joaquin Phoenix train wreck, or is that fake train wreck rolled into Miami Wednesday night with a new twist: Joaquin got into a fight at his own show.

The incident started with a man in the crowd yelling abuse at Joaquin. One thing Joaquin isn’t short on is hearing, and he responded, announcing “We have a f%&^ng bitch in the audience.” And he continued: “I’ve got $1million in the bank. What have you got bitch?”

But that wasn’t enough, because then Joaquin launched himself into the crowd, fists flying, before he was dragged away by security.

As always, brother-in-law Casey Affleck was there filming the whole thing.

Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman

Joaquin Phoenix, who recently announced he was leaving acting behind to start a career in rap, greeted Letterman wearing dark sunglasses and a full bushy beard. Greeted may the wrong word, though — Phoenix barely spoke during his interview, only coming to life when Letterman poked fun at his unresponsiveness. At that point, Phoenix actually stuck the gum he’d been chewing onto Letterman’s desk. Letterman, of course, handled the incident with grace.

“What can you tell us about your days with the Unabomber?” he said at one point in the interview.

And in closing, Dave simply stated: “Joaquin, I’m sorry you couldn’t be here tonight.”

Joaquin Phoenix has denied reports that he move into rap is a joke, saying people may be out to get him.

“There’s not a hoax. Might I be ridiculous? Might my career in music be laughable? Yeah, that’s possible, but that’s certainly not my intention. I had a lot of dudes (MK says, ‘KFed and MC Skat Kat don’t count, Joaquin’) come up and say, `We really respect you for doing it, putting yourself out there, and going with it. Because I think true hip-hop heads know that it’s hard, it’s going to be a hard transition, and people are going to be lining up just to make fun of me.” The rumor that its a hoax “comes from people that I’ve had a falling out with, that are (ticked) off at me?”

So if it’s not a joke, then he has officially lost it, and needs to get off the drugs.

His inability to afford a razor could be related to the fact that he has quit acting to pursue a career in music videos. Phoenix, sometimes known a Leaf Phoenix, was propelled into the spotlight when his brother River died outside the Viper Room owned by Johnny Depp. It was Joaquin Phoenix’s frantic phone call to 911 that hit the airwaves and was played over and over again.

Perhaps most famous for the movie Walk the Line where Phoenix played Johnny Cash, for which he won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar. Phoenix went on to record an album of Johnny Cash covers.
