Jay Severin Suspension

Jay Severin’s suspension from WTKK came after the host referred to swine flu as “swine, aka Janet Napolitano flu” on his program last week. Severin evidently also described Mexicans as “leeches” and some of the world’s “lowest of primitives,” according to the Boston Herald.

Now, despite Severin’s insistence that he’ll be back in no time, the station is saying Severin will stay off-the-air “until further notice.”

A statement released by the station said the following:

“WTKK and Greater Media value an open and vigorous dialogue, but we also strongly adhere to basic principles of civility, common decency and respect for all cultures.

“We believe Jay’s suspension is the best way to uphold both of these corporate policies. WTKK management met with Jay Severin and his agent today. He will continue to remain on suspension until further notice.”

Jay Severin: Call For Dismissal

The League of United Latin American Citizens is calling for Severin to be fired from the station, the Herald reports, calling his comments “extremely racist and offensive” and saying he shouldn’t be allowed back on-the-air.

Jay Severin’s ratings have reportedly declined in recent months. Sources quoted in Boston media outlets say the station management has been unhappy with his performance and increasingly “hateful” tones.
