Jack White produced ‘Blunderbuss’ at his very own Third Man Studio in Nashville. Talking about ‘Blunderbuss’ White stated that it’s “an album I couldn’t have released until now”. He also said:

“I’ve put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas.”

Jack White has certainly kept busy since The White Stripes split up a year ago, playing US live dates with The Raconteurs and The Greenhornes last September. He’s also worked with Insane Clown Posse, Tom Jones, Stephen Colbert and Black Milk which just shows that the range of Jack White’s musical interest far exceeded The White Stripes.

Country legend Loretta Lynn is back home and taking it easy after a brief scare with Bacterial Pneumonia.

Lynn, 76, was taken ill Saturday on her tour bus and transported to a hospital for treatment. A representative for the singer later disclosed on Lynn’s website:

“Around 1:30 AM Saturday morning, Loretta awoke on her tour bus complaining that she was having a hard time breathing.”

Later, reps for the singer added:

“Loretta regretfully must cancel her shows for Ashland Ky, and Durham, NC for this weekend, due to illness. Doctors have diagnosed her as the beginning stages pneumonia, and will continue to need rest. Loretta is doing well and is disappointed but feels confident she will be ready for upcoming November dates.”

Country website The Boot says that Lynn could be back up and singing by November 3rd, a date that’s rapidly approaching. While that sounds like an extremely brief recovery period for someone Lynn’s age, the singer recovered relatively quickly from a knee replacement earlier this year and got back up on stage to perform before her most recent illness.

The singer herself has commented on the incident and her recovery, pledging to rest at home until she’s well enough to perform. Lynn says:

“It was one scary night … But I am feeling better and just gonna take it easy for a couple of weeks!”

I’ve only had the pleasure of seeing Lynn perform once live, with the White Stripes at the Hammerstein Ballroom- Jack White and Lynn’s rendition of “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” was amazing, but no recording seems to exist, so here is the duo performing “Portland, Oregon.”

Alas, I was not personally able to attend Jack White and Stephen Colbert’s Highline party today at Jack White’s ice cream truck even though it is only an hour from my house because I had to be an adult. And there are no Twitpics!

However, over on Colbert Nation, there is a brilliant “Catholic Throwdown” between White and Colbert where the two challenge one another on Catholic trivia. Out of all the interviews between the rock god and the late-night boss, the profanity laced outtake is the best- at least for us former Catholic schoolgirls.

Regular readers of the Inquisitr know that Jack White is my soul mate, so this post will be a huge exercise in objectivity. You’re welcome.

The most epic musical genius of our generation and wife Karen Elson are divorcing, it seems, but the notoriously private musician has taken the interesting step of hosting an event to mark their split. (Which, if you’ve been through a for-the-better divorce or witnessed one, actually doesn’t seem like too bad of an idea.) The event is on tonight in Nashville, and the invitation below reads:

“Karen Elson and Jack White kindly request the presence…at a party to celebrate their 6th anniversary, and their upcoming divorce with a positive swing bang hum dinger. The party will include dancing, photos, memories and drinks with alcohol in them. This is only for close personal friends and family so please no plus ones or dead beats.

“Please help us celebrate together this anniversary of the making and breaking of the sacred union of marriage with our best friends and animals.”

White and Elson, who married on June 1st of 2005, released a statement about the split and the party, acknowledging their intent to parent together and remain friends:

“We remain dear and trusted friends and coparents to our wonderful children Scarlett and Henry Lee. We feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to spend both separately and together watching our children grow.

“In honor of that time shared, we are throwing a divorce party, an evening together in Nashville to reaffirm our friendship and celebrate the past and future with close friends and family.”

It was also reported that OMG, Jack White, we should totally get married.

Dolly Parton, whose song Jolene is one of the White Stripes’ most beloved covers, said she would duet Jack White because Jack White is totally awesome.

Okay, the last part is total inference. But Parton says she’s “picky,” and how amazing would a Dolly/Jack duet be? Can you stand even thinking about it? Parton discusses how money and fame profile never enter into her decisions about collaborations- but mentions the rock god lives in her hood and is super talented:

“There’s been a lot of talk about Jack White wanting to work with me and I’ve always admired him and of course he lives in Nashville too.

“But I’m so picky about my music. I would never say never because he’s so talented and I loved the way The White Stripes did Jolene, it’s just that my music is so personal to me and I’m not going to work with someone just to have a hit.”

Parton also mentioned possibly duetting with Lady Gaga, which would be so much less awesome than a Jack White duet. “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man,” Dolly! Do it!

So, the government is ostensibly shutting down this afternoon… over Planned Parenthood? Or something?

Rep. Donna Edwards spoke about the matter of government shutdown on the House floor, citing lyrics from the White Stripes song “Effect and Cause” to illustrate the situation- alas, with a marked lack of Jack White hotness. Witness:

I shall diffuse any pretense of objectivity here and outright state that the White Stripes are my favorite band, and Jack White is my favorite musician, of ever, besides Jay-Z.

The stripped down, bluesy rock duo shot to prominence after “Fell In Love With A Girl” achieved widespread mainstream success back in 2002. Jack White has since formed the Dead Weather and the Raconteurs, but the Stripes were always Jack’s home band and pretty much Meg’s only gig. I will also point out at this juncture that I have had a raging crush on Jack White for the past decade, and he is in fact the dreamiest man to have ever walked God’s green earth in tight pants. Ahem.

The band announced their second break-up (the first notably being Meg and Jack’s divorce in the band’s early days) via their website, which is currently down. In a statement published on the site, the band said:

“The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health. It’s for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.”

This is so upsetting, you guys! The statement continues:

“Third Man Records will continue to put out unreleased live and studio recordings from the White Stripes in their Vault subscription record club, as well as through regular channels.”

They add:

“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”

Although Jack will presumably continue on with all his side projects, there is no word on Meg’s musical future. Are you having as big of a sad as I am over the White Stripes’ breakup? Do you think Jack has captured some of his Stripesy magic in other projects?

Eastbound and Down is returning for its second season on HBO, which may mildly remove the sting of the second season of True Blood concluding.

Among eagerly-anticipating people are, according to Interview, Jack White (squee but you buried the lead there, interview!) and Marilyn Manson. Manson is so hype on the show, in fact, that he actually cosplays as Kenny Powers. Director Adam Bhala Lough explains:

“Whenever I see Manson, he’s repeating entire chunks of dialogue and dressed like Kenny,” says Lough. “He just walks around dressed like this and fucks with people on the street. If a waiter or valet tells him, ‘Have a nice day,” he’ll respond, ‘Don’t tell me what to do.’ Stuff like that. He’s even dressed like this when I’m at his house watching Béatrice Dalle films and Hoarders.” I ask Lough what Green thinks of the method role-playing, since he’s producing (upcoming slasher pic) Sisters. “I think David’s actually frightened for Danny. Because Manson wants to kidnap Danny on some King of Comedy shit. Danny should be scared.”

In Sisters, Manson will play a death metal band frontman named Lars.

Jack White is like a shining beacon of sexy awesomeness, and when you think he can’t be any more sexy, or awesome, he unleashes a beautifully angry tirade on hipsters in New York.

White played Don Hill’s last night with his side-side project, The Dead Weather. A whole bunch of famous people were there, like Liv Tyler and one of the Olsen Twins, and Keith Richards’ daughter, who I suppose is tangentially notable. Also, a bunch of LES hipsters were in the crowd, and Jack did not care for their bored affectation, so he yelled at them:

“F**k you, you hip motherf**kers! Why don’t you rock the f**k out? Maybe I should go grab those free drinks and shove them down your throats, you hip mother**kers!”

Then Jack ejected some douche in the front who was taking pictures, probably while he was still grinding hard on the guitar with his other hand because he’s Jack White and he only needs one hand to kick anyone’s ass playing guitar. The NYDN also says the present Olsen twin rolled her eyes at him after his outburst, for which I think he should have booted her, too. White later apologized to the crowd for berating them, but I bet they totally deserved it:

He said, “I’m sorry I blew up at you guys earlier. Thanks for coming out.”

White Stripes, Raconteurs and Dead Weather singer/guitarist Jack White has confirmed that he recorded a collaboration with rap icon Jay-Z.

White told British GQ that the two got together and recorded a track a few weeks ago, and though no date has been announced for the track’s release, White confirmed the track exists and is “unbelievable-sounding.”

“I just did a record with Jay-Z,” said White. “We did a song together a few weeks ago. It was incredible. I played him something that I’ve been kicking around for a while and he immediately came out with words for it. It’s unbelievable-sounding.”

The collaboration isn’t particularly surprising given that the rapper and rocker have complimented each other over the past few months in the news. Of White, Jay-Z says:

“Jack White, he can do it all,” he said to Clash Magazine. “He’s a renaissance man. I like anyone who I’m working with to bring their flavour and their energy to the track, or else why get them? If I bring a person in, they are free to do whatever.”

White similarly lauded Hova a few months ago in an interview:

He said: “I feel like I’m a lot more to do with Jay-Z than I do with the Black Keys. And I don’t know what that is, it’s just a feeling.

“I love hip-hop if it’s done with a sense of the blues, even if the person who is creating it isn’t thinking that at all. I think Jay-Z is just incredible. ‘The Black Album’ is one of the best albums of the decade.”

As far as partnerships go, this should be amazing.

The White Stripes (well, presumably just Jack White) have struck out at the USAF for blatantly ripping off one of their songs in an commercial that ran during the Superbowl.

The ad, featuring a surfer riding waves to what is clearly “Fell In Love With a Girl,” has since disappeared from the Air Force Reserve site and it is unclear if that’s due to the statement the Stripes issued in response to the song-lifting. An identical statement posted on both the White Stripes’ official site and Third Man Records indicates that the song was not licensed, and the band does not approve of the unauthorized usage:

The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserve presenting this advertisement with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support.

The statement goes on to express support for the troops, but adds:

We simply don’t want to be a cog in the wheel of the current conflict, and hope for a safe and speedy return home for our troops.

The statement was particularly interesting because Meg and Jack generally don’t make statements about their political views, and have stated before that such opinions are irrelevant to their art. The unauthorized usage kind of put the band in a sticky spot, because had they not addressed the ad, it might have implied political views the Stripes don’t espouse. Another Way to Die, the Jack White/ Alicia Keys duet theme song for the next James Bond flick The Quantum of Solance was released 2 weeks ago, and the general reaction from Inquisitr readers wasn’t positive. For the followup, the video clip has been released, as embedded from the original source above (if you can’t see this in the feed, visit the site….also this is the original source, so quality is superior to the YouTube rips popping up).

I know others don’t like the song, but combined with the dark, moody Bondesque clip I’m warming to it more and more. The other thing to note from the clip: Alicia Keys is quite simply hot.

The full theme song to the next James Bond film Quantum of Solace has been released. The track sees Jack White team up with Alicia Keys to offer a modern take on a Bond theme.

The undertones are deep, somewhat dark (it says Jack White) with some brass adding to the over all Bond affect. Reviews so far are mixed, but as a Bond fan who still owns nearly every Bond theme song, I don’t mind it. It keeps to the theme, even if it’s a little flat compared to the strong vocals of Shirley Bassy, or the pop rock of Wings for Live and Let Die. The dark mood sits well with the darker Bond we’ve seen since Daniel Craig took over the role.
