Asked to discuss his house and artistic project, Frank Buckley said:

“It’s a reflection of the whole madness that gripped us. People were pouring billions into buildings now worth nothing. I wanted to create something from nothing.”

Despite the cheap credit in Ireland, the property bubble burst in 2007 and Ireland was thrown into a deep recession, having to be bailed out by the EU and the IMF. Buckley himself was allowed to purchase a 365,000 Euro home, without having a steady income at the time. The house has since lost one third of its value.

In his new property, the walls and floor are insulated by Euro shreddings and there are also pictures made from coins and notes. One of the pictures is of a house made from Irish 5 pence pieces. “There are houses in Ireland worth less than that,” says Buckley.

Talking about the warm created by the use of shredded Euro notes, Frank Buckley quipped:

“Whatever you say about the Euro, it’s a great insulator.”

Monthly subscriptions will cost £5.99 and €6.99 (both around $9) in the UK and Ireland respectively. Its main rival in Europe, Lovefilm, charges £4.99 and already has a readymade base of around 2 million subscribers on the continent.

Netflix has plenty of subscribers away from Europe – more than 20 million in the U.S. and a further 1.5 million outside the States – but it is a complete newcomer in Europe.

The company suffered a painful loss of almost a million customers last year when it introduced eye-watering price rises. The move saw Netflix quickly backpedal, though customers remained largely unimpressed. From mid-July to the end of 2011, Netflix’s value dropped by 75%

When combined with the earlier exodus of customers, the cost of Netflix’s expansion is anticipated to result in a loss when the firm reports its fourth-quarter earnings on January 25.

However, it would seem a recovery is underway. 2012 is still young, but Netflix shares have seen a resurgence, largely thanks to speculation that the company could receive a fat buyout offer.

Shares might not be anywhere near their July 2011 high of $305, but they have gained by $11.89, or nearly 14 percent, this year. They now stand at $98.18.

The MTV EMA Awards has two new performers in Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. Both performers will sing at the November 6 show which will take place in Belfast, Ireland.

The MTV EMA’s are being hosted by Selena Gomez and already announced for performance spots are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, LMFAO and Jessie J.

Choosing Lady Gaga for a spot on the show was a no brainer since she’s nominated for six awards; Best Female, Best Live Act, Best Pop Act, Best Song and Best Video for “Born This Way.” Gaga is also up for the “Biggest Fans” awards.

Bruno Mars on the other hand has been nominated for four awards including Best Song and Best Pop Song for his hit Grenade as well as Best Male performer and Best New Artist.

Also nominated according to MTV:

Adele, Justin Bieber and Thirty Seconds to Mars each with three. Other big nominees include Beyoncé, Foo Fighters, Jennifer Lopez, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, My Chemical Romance, Eminem, Arcade Fire, Far East Movement, Wiz Khalifa, Linkin Park and Kings of Leon.

The MTV EMA’s will debut on November 6 at 6 p.m. ET via  Tr3s: MTV, Música y Más.

Take a look at the newest set of Sinead O’Connor photos to circulate around the internet this week and you’ll hardly recognize the 90′s singer and her completely new look.

Famous for her cover of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U the artist toured through the 1990′s with a shaved head and a slimmed down physique, which have been replaced with a “more full” body type and hair!

The Irish singer has also donned a pair of glasses for her summer tour, making her unrecognizable to even some of her most die-hard fans.  The photo shown above was taken when the 44-year-old singer was performing as a backup singer for Natty Wailer during a Bray Seaside Music Festival set on Saturday.

O’Connor had largely disappeared since 1992 when she drew criticism for tearing up a photo of pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live in protest of sexual abuse at the hands of the Catholic Church.

Fans wanting to catch a glimpse at the singer can currently find her on tour throughout Europe, although don’t expect too many songs from Sinead who hasn’t released a new album since 2005′s “Throw Down Your Arms.”

What do you think about the singer’s new look? Before you judge though, I should mention that she’s the mother of four children, so take it easier on the changes to her body. I just find it strange to see her with hair, I can’t get over that fact by itself, let alone with all her other changes.

If you act quickly, however, that particular issue can be remedied. The skull of Saint Vitalis of Assisi is set to hit the auction block on Friday in Ireland, and although the morbid relic isn’t confirmed to actually be Vitalis’ cranium, you never know. (And he’s from Assisi, where everyone knows all the saints lived.) The holy skull has the distinction of belonging to the actual patron saint of sexually transmitted diseases- did anyone else not learn about this dude in Catholic school?

If anything makes Vitalis’ tale seem legit, it’s that it sounds straight out of a dog-eared copy of A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, complete with dirty rampant sex and a guy who dies with a single, sad thing to his name:

Not satisfied with just screwing people through pointless idiotic lawsuits the music industry has been trying to get ISPs around the world to block torrent sites – with The Pirate Bay being their principal target. the thinking being if they can con the ISPs into blocking them it will be a short step to getting them to block other sites the music industry has a hard-on for.

In Ireland several of the ISPs were sent letters requesting the blockage of The Pirate Bay an while UPC and BT Ireland refused lily-livered Eircom, the country’s largest ISP, bowed down to the industry lapdogs and began – as of today – to block the site.

According the the gang over at TorrentFreak people trying to access the site will see the following message, which I have copied from TorrentFreak’s post on the story (hope they don’t mind)

TorrentFreak can confirm that Eircom customers can no longer access The Pirate Bay and instead, are faced with this message when trying to access the site (body in plain text for clarity);

On the 24 July 2009, an Order was made by the High Court requiring eircom to block or otherwise disable access by its subscribers to the website ThePirateBay.org, its related domain names, IP addresses and URLs. The Court was satisfied that on the basis of the evidence presented by the record companies that the PirateBay website is a website that facilitates the exchange of copyrighted sound recordings without the consent of the copyright owners.

eircom recognises the legitimate rights of the owners of copyrighted material and believes that individuals who share or download copyrighted material without the authorisation or the permission of the copyright owner are acting illegally.

The Order further provides that should the PirateBay website content be legitimatised in the future then eircom has liberty to apply to the Court to have the Order vacated and access to the PirateBay website enabled.

eircom in compliance with the Order has agreed that access to the website the PirateBay.org, its related domain names, IP addresses and URLs from the eircom network will be blocked indefinitely from the 1st September 2009.

eircom would like to reassure customers that:

* eircom will not monitor customer’s activities at any stage, nor will it place any monitoring equipment or software on its network in order to facilitate this block.
* eircom will not provide personal details or any information relating to customers to any third party, including the record companies.

Why do you like ridding hippos? is the question asked over and over in a bizarre street fight video from Athlone, Ireland.

The video shows a couple, complete with child and pram, fighting in the street in a domestic dispute. Perhaps nothing strange there, although obviously lacking in class. Where it gets super bizarre is in the dialogue exchanged by the couple.
