The rumor mill for the iPhone 5S claims that Apple’s next smartphone may be revolutionary. It’s not yet clear whether this device will be called the 5S or, if it has all the features claimed by rumors, the iPhone 6.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, unified operating systems are expected to be the wave of the future, with a single smart device capable of being a smartwatch, smartphone, tablet, and computer all at once. The iPhone and iPad use pretty much the same iOS. Apple’s difficulty lies in merging the Mac OS X with the iOS. But the Mac OS X has almost as many apps as Windows 8, which gives them an edge over Google once the operating systems are unified. CNET has an article describing the predicted actions of Apple.

According to Ubergizmo, the new iPhone 5S concept will incorporate four pico projectors to turn your iPhone into an all-in-one portable Mac with a virtual keyboard:

“Frank_Snk has imagined an iPhone 5S concept in which the phone will incorporate four pico projectors – two of which will be used to project a full-sized keyboard on a flat surface, and the other two to project a display in which a full unadulterated version of OS X will be running. The top and bottom portion of the iPhone 5S can be pulled out to activate the projectors, with an app running the whole show. We have to wonder what sized battery it has to use if it hopes to perform all of that, but then again that’s pretty much the beauty of concept phones – it doesn’t always have to make sense.”

Combine this feature set with the rumored Apple iWatch and in the future you may be spending more time touching other devices rather than the iPhone’s screen. According to The Times of India, the next-generation iPhone 5S, or 6, may have a smaller battery and be featured in six to eight color choices. Apple is also reportedly in talks with Japanese manufacturer Sharp for its Igzo display panels:

“Igzo displays are thinner and lighter than amorphous silicon (a-Si) panels that are currently used in Apple iPhone, iPad and iPad mini. This will reduce the weight of the devices, especially the fourth-generation iPad, which is heavier than iPad 2 and weighs over 650 gram. With the integration of this type of screen, the upcoming Apple gadgets will be lighter, more power-efficient and require smaller batteries without compromising on run-time.”

According to Business Insider, Apple will release the iPhone 5S in June. It’s possible the more advanced features like the iOS and Mac OS X integration and pico projectors will be reserved for an iPhone 6 to be released some time in late 2013 or perhaps even 2014.

Apple has updated the iPhone and iPad this year. The company also combined the two products to create the iPad Mini. But don’t get comfortable with your new products just yet because Apple is getting ready to release the latest and greatest version of its iPhone: The iPhone 5s.

New photos of the iPhone 5S were reportedly leaked to the internet today thanks to NoWhereElse.fr.

The new photos show a device that looks pretty identical to the iPhone 5. CNet notes that the placement of some of the screws differ between the two models but that’s about all that is known at the moment.

There’s not much to say about the new iPhone 5S leak but it may show that the company is trying to speed up its upgrade process.

The iPhone 5 was released less than three months ago and it looks like Apple already has a prototype for the new phone.

Of course, as Slash Gear notes, the new iPhone 5S leak may not show anything at all. The photos could be of an old iPhone 5 prototype that never saw the light of day.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the rumors that latest iPhone will indeed, as the Inquisitr has previously claimed, feature a four inch screen are true and that Apple has begun ordering screens of “at least 4 inches diagonally.”

Quoting “people familiar with the situation,” the WSJ claimed that “Production is set to begin next month for the screens, which measure at least 4 inches diagonally compared with 3.5 inches on the iPhone 4S, the latest phone from Apple.”

Apple is reportedly working together with “Japan Display Inc., a new company created last month by three Japanese companies and the government, some of the people said.”

A larger screened iPhone indicates that Apple is feeling the pressure from rival smartphone makers who have established four inches and above as the new gold standard in portable computing and cellular communications. Samsung, which recently unveiled its new flagship phone, the Galaxy S3, with a whopping 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED screen, has been putting pressure on Apple and cutting into the company’s market share.

The iPhone’s screen has remained consistent over its first five iterations since the handset’s debut in 2007 and Apple has heretofore placed great emphasis on providing a consistent user experience on all its devices in order to reduce fragmentation within the iOS app store. In the Android Market, on the other hand, there are apps cannot be used on many phones due to differing screen resolutions, processors and other variations.

However, the WSJ reported, “A new iPhone with a larger screen wouldn’t necessarily mean that Apple is making changes to its products because of what rivals are doing, said Mizuho Investors Securities analyst Nobuo Kurahashi.”

“The smartphone market has become diverse, but the iPhone still sets the agenda,” with the whole industry watching Apple’s every move, he said. He said that the iPhone’s strength lies in the overall experience including its user interface and applications, and the screen’s size wouldn’t be its defining feature.

“If Apple ever released a lower-priced iPhone, that would be more of a sign that the changing market environment is beginning to affect the company,” he added.
