But not completely legally.

A new hack called ‘SiriOus’ lets jailbroken iPhone 4′s, iPhone 3GS’s, and even fourth-gen iPod Touch’s to offer Siri’s voice dictation feature. There’s nothing new about Siri working on hardware older than the iPhone 4S. Before the 4S was announced, Siri was available as a standalone application in the App Store. Apple removed the app to integrate Siri exclusively to the 4S.

There’s also a rival version of Siri for Applephobic Android owners with Siri envy. ‘Cluzee’ apparently offers Siri-beating features, and is available on the Android Market now for Android-based devices. This ”intelligent personal assistant” was developed by a company called Tronton, and it does look pretty damn impressive in this (cheesy-as-hell) video:

Tronton claims Cluzee offers additional capabilities like personalized recommendations of restaurants based on the user’s previous choices, a health planner, a travel planner, notes management, personal radio and more.

All very impressive, but there are clearly still boundaries to be tested with Siri. Developer Brandon Fiquett, for example, has programmed voice-activated software that allows Siri to turn a car engine on or off, so long as the car has the Viper SmartStart system. With the right set-up, Siri can also lock car doors, turn on a car alarm, and open the trunk.

And you know what that means, people: it means ALL OF OUR DREAMS ARE NOW REALITY.

With all of the news coming out of Apple today, are you finding yourself in the market for a new iPhone but don’t want to pay full price for an iPhone 4S? Well, you’ll soon be in luck.

During the Apple press conference today, Apple announced plans to slash prices on existing iPhone models. What’s more, they will also be making the iPhone 3Gs free with new contracts.

Starting soon, you’ll be able to pick yourself up a brand new 8GB iPhone 4 with a new contract for $99. In comparison, the iPhone 4S will run you $199 for the 16GB version, $299 for the 32GB version, and $399 for the top-end 64GB version.

Currently, it isn’t known whether or not Apple will be slashing prices on other current iPhone models, such as the 16GB and 32GB iPhone 4 models – but hey, at least you’ll be able to pick up an iPhone 3GS for free or, if you prefer, an iPhone 4 on the (relatively) cheap.

Handyscope wants your iPhone to do more than play a mean game of Angry Birds, they want it to act as a mobile dermatoscope.

The attachment and accompanying iPhone app work with 3GS and iPhone 4 models and turns your phone into a mobile skin examination center.

Users simply take pictures of their problem skin areas using the attachment and those pictures can then be magnified up to 20X and sent directly to the doctors office, allowing for a quick review of your problem areas.

The attachment isn’t cheap at approximately $1582 (€1,166) plus $11.99 for the app, but it could save your life from skin cancer or other flesh eating issues that may arise.

In the meantime, a special thanks to FotoFinder Systems for developing an app and attachment that might actually do some good, which is more than I can say to the life force sucking, time wasting Angry Birds…with that said I’m about to go play Angry Birds on my Macbook Pro.

If you plan on taking advantage of last minute Christmas deals for your upcoming iPhone 3GS purchase you may want to wait until December 10 and then head on over to Best Buy. A rumor began circulating today that the big box electronics chain will give away the 8GB iPhone 3GS for free on that day for users willing to sign a 2-year AT&T iPhone contract.

Details about the rumored sale are not yet known, although it’s rumored that the discount would be taken at the counter which means no mail-in-rebates.

AT&T has recently hinted that their iPhone exclusivity deal is about to come to an end, while promising to get as many iPhone’s into their users hands as possible before the end of 2010.

The move would make sense as it would allow AT&T to lock in as many customers as possible before Verizon receives their CDMA version of the iPhone series and then other carriers follow suit.

Are you sick and tired of that old iPhone you’ve been using for a few years now? Are you ready to make the jump over to Windows Mobile 6.5 and possibly to a future Windows 7 Phone? If you are the newest T-Mobile promotion might be for you.

Under the plan customers can turn in their iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS devices and receive anywhere from $100 to $350 off the price of the HTC HD2.

Currently you’ll receive Windows 6.5, however early rumors are pointing to a Windows 7 upgrade as soon as that OS is released.

I’m not sure how many iPhone users will be willing to jump ship, but if you have to move over to T-Mobile for some reason and you don’t want to jailbreak your iPhone this could be a good route to take. Then again as we reported yesterday the HTC HD2 has once again sold out at T-Mobile so you might have to wait for a while.
Want an iPhone 8GB, 16GB or 32GB but can’t stand those annoying sign on the dotted line contracts at AT&T. If you don’t mind paying a hell of a lot more for the phone you can now grab a contract free device from Apple Store locations.

The units include the 8GB unit at $499, 16GB device at $599 and the 32GB’s for $699.

The move is more than likely in response to the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus arriving at AT&T in the next few months and the recent release of the Google Nexus One with AT&T 3G support.

Personally, the mobile market is finally getting exciting to me again, when Apple is taking measures to protect themselves in a market they were cruising along in for the last several years, it’s a good sign of better things to come for the market. After all competition leads to new innovations and Apple is definitely seeing a whole bunch of competition these days.

While any one with an iPhone regardless of age or sensibility can access the most hardcore of porn via the internet, Apple has been notoriously draconian when it comes to optimizing smut for the iPhone and iPod touch.

“But…” you may object, “the internet is for porn! And devices designed to present the internet to us in other ways should embrace and nourish this natural partnership!” Many would agree. And while there are apps to get you off and apps to tell you just how drunk you can drive, bikini apps have remained a sticking point for Apple when it comes to its precious App Store. Apple sticks to its guns in protecting “the children,” who probably make up a very small share of regular iPhone users.

Philip Schiller, a marketing rep for Apple, spoke to the New York Times about the decision.

“It came to the point where we were getting customer complaints from women who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable, as well as parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see,” Mr. Schiller said.

More frustrating than Apple telling us what we can and cannot see on the devices we pay monthly to use, however, is the double standard when dealing with independent companies who may have invested a lot to bring an app to market versus well known, moneyed companies with iPhone apps. Two popular apps by Playboy and Sports Illustrated show the same content featured in many suddenly banned apps, the key difference being those companies are owned by rich people with swimming pools full of money:

When asked about the Sports Illustrated app, Mr. Schiller said Apple took the source and intent of an app into consideration. “The difference is this is a well-known company with previously published material available broadly in a well-accepted format,” he said.

Hopefully Apple will eventually realize that it is not their place to dictate what you can and cannot do with your iPhone once you bend over and pay them for it, and continue to pay hefty data charges monthly to keep the damn thing running. As a parent myself, I would never expect a massive company to decide what my child can or cannot see, nor do I feel that the world should quit turning until my son is old enough to look at a set of tits on an iPod touch screen. I’ve handled the issue of objectionable content by monitoring what I allow my children to be exposed to and not allowing them unfettered access to the internet or the Disney channel. Parents who believe that this kind of global childproofing is acceptable need to be set straight and quickly, before the future of mobile smut is compromised.

The introduction of a parental control setting could head this entire controversy off at the pass. Or, we could all poke our eyes out with sticks so we don’t see bikini covered boobs on the iPhone. Which option sounds better to you, Apple?

UK wireless carrier Vodafone has announced that they will begin selling various versions of the iPhone in January 2010. Users who choose the right plans will even be able to pick up their devices for free! While they may be a little late to the iPhone game, it’s still a welcomed edition to the companies arsenal of available devices.

Customers who agree to a £35 per month plan can pick up the iPhone 3G for free, while iPhone 3GS units are available with 16GB on a £45/month device and a 32GB version is available for £75 a month. All options include a standard 2 year contract.

One big drawback at this time for Vodafone customers is the 1GB per month data limit, although free WiFi is available and they do allow tethering for an additional £5 a month with a 500MB data limit.

The official release of the iPhone 3GS on UK wireless carrier Orange is just one week away and with that time frame the company has officially announced their iPhone pricing packages for both the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS devices.

Users who are willing to sign a 2 year contract with an 8GB iPhone 3G can have the phone for free with a £29.36 or higher monthly package. Move up to a £122.34 ($200) offering and they’ll bump the device to the 32GB 3GS at no cost, other than the $4800 you’ll spend with your contract over two years.

Users looking for a “pay as you go plan” don’t fair quite as well with the 8GB 3G at £343 ($561) and the 32GB 3GS running £539 ($881).

O2 will lose their exclusivity for the iPhone 3GS on November 9th, a day before the date that will see the device not coincidentally land at UK cellular provider Orange. Currently the carrier is only able to offer iPhone and iPhone 3G devices.

While pricing on both carriers should remaining the same, Orange is promising “value added” services, although we aren’t quite sure that that means at this point.

Carphone Warehouse and Phone4U are expected to carry the phones on behalf of O2. Then adding to the already crowded iPhone UK market will be Vodafone sometime in early 2010, with carrier “3″ looking to also adopt the phone sometime in 2010. According to Mechatronics’ website, the keyboard will improve your typing speed by 30-40% and reduce typing errors by 70-80%.

iTwinge is ultra low power and powered by your iPhone. It doesn’t require any software and is attached within 1 second.

As an iPhone 3G S owner, I’m not sure this one is for me. I’m not ready to improve my typing speed yet, but it could be a great tool for Blackberry switchers. They can’t type without tactile feedback.

According to Mobile Mechatronics the iTwinge is released today or tomorrow:

On Thursday September 16th Mobile Mechatronics will launch the iTwinge™! The world’s first commercially available iPhone® keyboard

Shipments begin November 19th or November 12th, depending on which page you are currently reading on MobileMechatronics.com.

Who will buy one first?

With the new parental controls on the iPhone 3GS, it didn’t take too long for ta-tas to hit the app store.

Last week saw a weak vibrator app called myVibe, and yesterday existing app “Hottest Girls” (no points for creativity there) upgraded to include nudity. Developer Allen Leung was quoted as saying:

“We uploaded nude topless pics today. This is the first app to have nudity.”

While the offerings are relatively tame (nothing you’d not see in an 80′s comedy about summer camp) the app is the first to officially offer soft porn in the app store. Yay for landmarks!

We all know official boobies on your iPhone is no great shakes- you can get much spicier porn straight up from Safari on the iPhone as well. But the move is significant because it opens the door for a whole lot more Apple-sanctioned porn. The evolution of adult-oriented apps will probably be slow going, as no one wants to get banned. But with Apple taking a 30% cut in the app store, the prospect of indulging users’ more base appetites is likely too compelling to ignore.

Antsy iPhone customers have been anxiously refreshing their browsers all morning as news of iPhone 3GS delivery fluctuates, just wanting to know when their damn iPhones will be released.

UPS delivery estimates have gone from June 18th to June 23rd, and customers awaiting shipment say UPS is holding the package regionally. PC World is reporting that holds are at the request of Apple. According to Apple Insider, this isn’t the first time Apple has teased fangirls and fanboys by dangling new toys just to snatch them away, even after they’ve been received:

Apple has several times in the past shipped products such as iLife and iWork ahead of their launch date. In some of those cases, customers actually received their orders early but were later asked to surrender them back to the shipping company for re-delivery a few days later at Apple’s request.

Oh, no they did not! Seriously? Who does that?

The new iPhone OS 3.0 update is also nowhere in sight, and Apple is frustratingly tight-lipped about the release time. Estimates seem to center around 1PM EST, possibly as late as 2:30- well into the evening hours in Europe and some other places that are not America. Just in case you live under a rock, the anticipated updates include copy & paste functions, landscape typing, MMS and voice memos.

The iPhone- is there anything it can’t do? A whole hell of a lot, thanks to AT&T.

Swiftly following WWDC coverage, particularly surrounding the iPhone 3gS, came an outpouring of unfettered rage in the blogosphere. The iPhone seems poised to remain the most buzzed about, sought after phone on the market, even with the Palm Pre’s attempts to cut in on market share. But will AT&T ever stop holding the iPhone back?

First up in a laundry list of grievances is cost-related. AT&T noobs can buy in on a 3G at $99. 3GS phones will set new customers and upgrade eligible customers back $199-299. Already sprung for an iPhone? Expect to be rewarded for your loyalty with an additional $200 penalty to get your grubby mitts on the shiny new models. Did I mention they’re faster and have slightly improved battery life?

Next on the list comes tethering- using your iPhone as a modem. Expect to see this feature delayed indefinitely until AT&T decides just how much they can wring out of us for it before we decide driving around for an open-WiFi connection at 2:30am is worth the hassle.

Another sore spot- MMS messaging. iPhone users have been deprived the privilege- nay, right- to ping-pong drunken kegstand pics about the airwaves as iPhones don’t support the ultra-basic function of picture messaging. AT&T gave users a target date of “sometime in late summer” but no solid information on when this will be available.

In a statement, AT&T said:

Based on independent market research, twice as many smartphone users have chosen AT&T over any other U.S. carrier.

I’m no business advisor, but I think they might want to look into ways to keep that whole momentum thing going.
