The producers of the smash hit “House” have announced that after 8 seasons the show will be coming to an end.  The FOX medical drama has reached the end of its run and will end after this season’s 177th episode.

Producers David Shore, Katie Jacobs and Laurie called the decision “a painful one,”.  They also said that after all the awards and acclaim the show has brought House stands as  “a source of great pride to everyone involved.”

David Shore, Katie Jacobs and Hugh Laurie, who are all of the show’s Executive Producers released a statement to Fox News saying,

“After much deliberation, the producers of House M.D. have decided that this season of the show, the 8th, should be the last. By April this year they will have completed 177 episodes, which is about 175 more than anyone expected back in 2004. The decision to end the show now, or ever, is a painful one, as it risks putting asunder hundreds of close friendships that have developed over the last eight years – but also because the show itself has been a source of great pride to everyone involved.”

The show stars Laurie as the eccentric Gregory House, a genius Vicodin addicted doctor who only takes the most ridiculous medical cases.  He and his team solve the cases while House verbally abuses everyone involved in his life.  House’s masochistic behavior has landed him in jail, prison and psychiatric hospitals throughout the show’s last 8 seasons.

FOX Broadcasting President Kevin Reilly said of the executive producers decision, “While it’s with much regret, and a lump in our throats, we respect the decision. For eight seasons, the entire ‘House’ team has given us — and fans around the world — some of the most compelling characters and affecting stories ever seen on television,”

After eight seasons of romances, drug addictions, various lives saved and plenty of clever, mean-hearted banter from Gregory House, Fox TV series House M.D. will draw to a close.

Producers for the show laid rumors of the series’ demise to rest on Wednesday when they announced that the series finale will air in May.

Fox president Kevin Reilly announced that it was the shows producers and actor Hugh Laurie who all decided that it was time to move on during a high creative note.

In his statement Reilly said:

“While it’s with much regret, and a lump in our throats, we respect the decision Hugh, David [Shore] and Katie [Jacobs] have made.  A true original, on the page and amazingly brought to life by Hugh Laurie, there is only one Dr. House.  For eight seasons, the entire HOUSE team has given us – and fans around the world – some of the most compelling characters and affecting stories ever seen on television.  They have been creatively tenacious and collaborative throughout this incredible run, and they are amongst the most superior talents in the business.  For all the above, we wholeheartedly thank them, and the fans who have supported the show.”

Since it began, House has aspired to offer a coherent and satisfying world in which everlasting human questions of ethics and emotion, logic and truth, could be examined, played out, and occasionally answered.  This sounds like fancy talk, but it really isn’t.  House has, in its time, intrigued audiences around the world in vast numbers, and has shown that there is a strong appetite for television drama that relies on more than prettiness or gun play.

But now that time is drawing to a close.  The producers have always imagined House as an enigmatic creature;  he should never be the last one to leave the party.  How much better to disappear before the music stops, while there is still some promise and mystique in the air.

The producers can never sufficiently express their gratitude to the hundreds of dedicated artists and technicians who have given so generously of their energy and talent to make House the show it has been— and perhaps will continue to be for some time, on one cable network or another.

The makers of House would also like to thank Fox Broadcasting and Universal Television for supporting the show with patience, imagination and large quantities of good taste.  The Studio-As-Evil-Adversary is one of the many clichés that House has managed to avoid, and for that the cast and crew are deeply grateful.

Lastly, the audience:  some have come and some have gone, obviously.  This is to be expected in the life of any show.  But over the course of the last eight years, the producers of House have felt immensely honored to be the subject of such close attention by an intelligent, discriminating, humane and thoughtful—not to mention numerous— audience.  Even the show’s detractors have been flattering in their way.

Making the show has felt like a lively and passionate discussion about as many different subjects as could possibly be raised in 177 hours. The devotion and generosity of our viewers has been marvelous to behold.

So, finally, everyone at House will bid farewell to the audience and to each other with more than a few tears, but also with a deep feeling of gratitude for the grand adventure they have been privileged to enjoy for the last eight years.  If the show lives on somewhere, with somebody, as a fond memory, then that is a precious feat, of which we will always be proud.

I have to admit that as a fan of the show I’ll miss watching it go away, however at the same time I can’t fault the producers for not allowing the show to drag on with an endlessly new cast of doctors meant to once again grab our imaginations.

The announcement shouldn’t surprise Hugh Laurie fans, the actor announced that he would retire from TV once the series ended which led to speculation that the current season would be his last.

In the days leading up to Solyndra seeking bankruptcy protection, President Barack Obama’s administration was mulling over a possible plan to save the company by buying it out, according to emails released by the government on Wednesday.

Had the plan been carried out, the buyout would have given the government between a 35 and 40 percent stake in the company. Additionally, the plan would have brought about a new board of directors, two of which would be selected by the Energy Department.

The plan came about from investment banking firm Lazard, who was paid $1 million to determine what options were available for Solyndra to avoid bankruptcy and bring the company back up to profitability within a reasonable time frame.

The documents, which details the government’s involvement in Solyndra, were released ahead of a Republican-led House subcommittee vote on Wednesday to subpoena the White House for documents related to Solyndra.

The Energy Department handed over 80,000 documents to the subcommittee, and says that the administration is committed to cooperating with the House subcommittee investigators.

However, Representative Cliff Stearns (R-FL) says that the White House has been “stonewalling” on releasing the documents (via Fox News).

“They feel that the inner circle of the West Wing is off bounds and we have no right to ask this information,” Stearns told Fox Business News this week. “I think the American taxpayers deserve an answer.”

As Thirteen was making her final appearance on “House,” Olivia Wilde was looting the set of the Fox tv show. Wilde, who officially left the show last night, took a few souvenirs home to remind her of the four years she spent on the medical drama.

Wilde told Showbizspy.com:

“I did take one or two things to remind me of the good times. I have a few things at home. Like, I used to take home the stethoscopes because they look cool and a fun to play with but we don’t seem to have them anymore. I think they all got stolen so it wasn’t just me.”

Wilde, who has appeared in hit movies like Tron: Legacy, and Cowboys & Aliens this year, decided to leave the show so that she can focus more on her movie career. Wilde also said that Thirteen’s departure fits well with the character.

Wilde said:

“There’s a few good reasons for [Thirteen] not to be working anymore as a doctor. She’s had a disease for a number of years and she doesn’t necessarily have that many years left. At this point she’s struggling with that dilemma. But of course it’s always up to House. No matter how much he drives them crazy, he’s still the most compelling and dynamic person to work for. And ultimately, it’s resolved for her.”

Wilde, who Justin Timberlake just called “the hottest mom” ever, knows that her time on “House” helped her to launch her movie career, and she won’t be quick to forget it.

Wilde said:

“My work has gotten so much better from learning from Hugh and the other actors and working with this writing staff.  I see it as a chapter, a really important chapter in my life, and one that will affect me for my entire career.”

Olivia Wilde will be saying goodbye to “House” tonight as her character Thirteen leaves the show. Hugh Laurie’s fictional character will undoubtedly drowned out his pain with pills during tonight’s episode, but the Golden Globe winning actor is a little more open about his feelings than his fictional counterpart.

Laurie said:

“There is a great sadness that Olivia is leaving us and moving on… Although it never came as any great surprise to anybody. Olivia was like a gunpowder fuse that was lit 15 years ago. Olivia is a real delight to be around and we will miss her very, very much. She’s obviously headed for great things.”

Wilde says that there are a number of reasons for thirteen to be ending her occupation as a doctor. But the actress admitted that the real reason for her departure is so that she can focus on her movie career.

Wilde said:

“It’s been an extraordinary time on the show for me. My work has gotten so much better from learning from Hugh and the other actors and working with this writing staff.  I see it as a chapter, a really important chapter in my life, and one that will affect me for my entire career. It’s a strange feeling thinking I won’t be coming here every morning, but all I feel is gratitude. My film career is thanks to House.”

Olivia Wilde made her debut on “House” in 2007. Since then she’s scored roles in Tron: Legacy, Cowboys & Aliens, and The Change-Up. According to IMBD, Wilde also has 8 movies scheduled over the next two years.

Olivia Wilde Leaves ‘House’ Tonight, Hugh Laurie ‘Greatly Saddened’ is a post from: The Inquisitr

House fans were shocked to learn that Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) would be leaving the show without any notice after executives said she and her co-stars would have to take pay cuts and now we’ve come to learn that House star Hugh Laurie was just as shocked.

Speaking to Zap2It Laurie said of the news:

“[Lisa's departure] came out of left field in my world too,” while he added, ”I don’t know who was privy to what at what time, but it was a great shock to me and everyone obviously misses her very greatly. Not only was she a great asset to the show as a performer, but we also just miss her company, because she is an absolute hoot to have around. She has been snapped up by another show and damn right, they’d be nuts not to. I hope she is having a great time, and I am sure she is.”

The other show Hugh is speaking of is The Good Wife in which Cuddy has a four episode arch.

Laurie also spoke about the future of the show, noting:

“Nobody has pounded the table and said, ‘Dammit, this is the last, and I’ll see you all in court!’ We’re all enjoying what we’re doing and proud of it. I think that’s the main thing. As long as… it’s a worthy endeavor, that’s its own reward. I have a feeling that we’ll all know come February or so, whether this is something that we should be going on with or not.”

House fans can tune in for the season premiere of the hit show when it returns to air on Monday, Oct. 3 on Fox at 9/8c.

Dr. Lisa Cuddy is making her exit form the hit Fox TV show House. Actress Lisa Edelstein announced on Tuesday that she will not renew her contract for an eighth season on the show.

In a statement Edelstein revealed:

“After much consideration, I am moving onward with a combination of disappointment at leaving behind a character I have loved playing for seven years and excitement of the new opportunities in acting and producing that lie ahead.”

According to industry snoops, producers wanted Edelstein to accept a reduction in pay after her seventh season contract expired. Omar Epps and Robert Sean Leonard took the cuts but apparently Edelstein would not.

Edelstein will more than likely only miss one season of the show, actor Hugh Laurie recently said the show will probably end after the eighth season, telling Radio Times Magazine during a May interview:

“The end of that season, right now looks like the end of the show. Well, that’s as far as they’ve got me for.”

You can see Edelstein in her final episode when the seventh season finale of House airs on May 23.

Despite rampant rumors on the web this week that Fox’s long running medical drama HOUSE would be canceled the network confirmed on Wednesday that an 8th season is on the way, more than likely the shows last.

The series, hurt by lower than normal ratings is limping along (although it’s still one of my favorites) and show star Hugh Laurie confirmed that the shows last days are nearing, during a Radio Times interview Laurie said:

“The end of [the eighth] season, right now, looks like the end of the show. That is as far as they have got me for [under contract].”

Also already signed on for the last season are Robert Sean Leonard (Wilson), Omar Epps (Foreman) and Lisa Edelstein (Cuddy)

Series creator David Shore will also stick by the show’s side, watching it sign off into syndication.

While Polish businessman Daniel Czapiewski may have built this as a statement about the Communist era the Upside Down House has become a local tourist attraction. Not only did the house take longer to build than one of his normal projects because the workmen became disoriented many people visiting the house have complained of mild seasickness and dizziness after being in the house for a short time.

We reported yesterday that Kal Penn (stoner Kumar in the Harold and Kumar movies) left TV series House, but what we didn’t know then is the reason: Penn is going to the White House.

Penn, who worked on the Obama campaign last year, has taken the position of Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Liaison. The role (as the title suggests) is working with the public, in particular in outreach programs.

Gawker though notes that he might end up “picking up tea bags from the White House lawn all day, and nothing else.”

House has lost a long standing cast member, with Dr Lawrence Kutner (played by Kal Penn) being killed of in Monday night’s episode.

In Series 5, episode 20, House was curious why Kutner didn’t not show up to work, and sends Foreman and Dr. Hadley to investigate. When they enter his apartment, they find him dead by suicide.

Never one to miss an opportunity, the Fox Network has set up a memorial site for Kutner here. The site includes memorial video, obituary, and an option for fans to leave their own thoughts on Kutner’s demise.

Kutner wasn’t a major character in the show, but did have a recurring role, often delivering as a humorous counterpoint to House.
