No, it’s not April 1st. Yeah, I sort of wish it was.

Not content with getting people to insert their fingers in things for fun, Nintendo has patented something called the Wii Horseback Riding Saddle. The what what now? The diagram above, found by Siliconera in the European patents database, explains it well enough: the Wii Saddle is an inflatable seat with accelerometers to detect movement and a pocket for the Wii remote. So this is what gaming has been missing.

These diagrams are amusing enough on their own (particularly the child with a receding hairline), but then I read Nintendo’s description of a hypothetical game for the peripheral, and things just got better and better:

“For example, the Wii main unit can display the back of a horse’s head and background of a trail, a field, a battlefield or other environment the virtual horse is being ridden through (see Figure 1A). The image may change in response to detected motion of the user.”

And there’s more! Nintendo’s patent suggests that the Saddle of LULZ could be used to ride vehicles such as hang gliders or a motorcycle, as well as virtual “bulls, camels, elephants, burros, dolphins, whales, dragons, griffons, unicorns, giant eagles.” Burros? BURROS?! I think this is officially the stage that Nintendo’s obsession with Wii novelty add-ons has finally gone beyond the realms of parody. I’d totally expect this kind of thing from The Onion, but it’s actually real.

Obviously, plenty of patents are registered and then don’t see the light of day. I hope this isn’t one of those, if only because it could be all kinds of hilarious.

[Cheers for the laugh, Siliconera]

Serial horse-shagger Rodell Vereen was charged with buggery and trespassing again… while on probation for buggering the same horse.

The horse’s owner, Barbara Kenley, owns the “Lazy B Stables” in Conway, SC. The bad-ass, shotgun bearing Ms. Kenley caught Vereen with his pants down and in the middle of a tender moment with Sugar, Barbara’s 21-year-old horse. Vereen was jailed for shagging Sugar back in 2007, and Ms. Kenley thought that Sugar’s troubles were over when he was convicted.

Not so. Surveillance cameras, installed after Sugar was assaulted the first time, revealed a human-on-horse act in the stables on July 19th. Sugar’s unwelcome Romeo was indeed back. Kenley alerted police, but the police were unable to identify Sugar’s attacker in the CCTV footage. Kenley knew, however, that Vereen would be unable to stay away, and this time she was ready.

Kenley describes confronting the man who defiled her filly:

“I wanted to catch him firsthand,” she said. “It was just a matter of time before I caught him.”

When Kenley pointed a shotgun at Vereen, he claimed to be looking for a bathroom.

“I told him he was full of crap,” Kenley said. “He apologized and said he didn’t mean to hurt me.”

For the record, buggery is defined similarly to sodomy. Anything further you’ll have to Google on your own, honey.

We all like to pick on the RIAA; quite rightfully, but it looks like they could take a few lessons on arsine behavior from their British counterpart - The Performing Rights Society; otherwise known as PRS for Music. In the past the organization has been known to go after children’s charities, garages and even a police station, all for playing a radio loud enough in the case of the garages for the customers to hear. In the case of the children’s charity the PRS said they didn’t cough up for a license fee to sing Christmas carols. As for the police station – well I still haven’t figured that one out.

Not happy with the results from these kind of actions they have decided to target stable owners as evidenced in the case of 62 year old Mrs Greenway who plays a classical radio station in the stables that she has been running for 20 years. According to the PRS though because she employees more than two people she must pay the annual £99 licensing fee regardless of the fact that the music is played for the horses benefit not the staffs. In fact the majority of the staff dislike the choice of music and will turn it off when Mrs. Greenway isn’t around.

She received a telephone call from the Performing Right Society – now officially known as PRS for Music – which was targeting stables as part of a drive to get commercial premises to pay for licences.

Rather than pay the fee, she now leaves the radio off except on Sundays when she is alone at the stable yard.

"I actually use my radio for the benefit of the horses as Classic FM helps them relax," she said.

"The staff are not bothered whether they have the radio on or not, in fact they don’t particularly like my music and turn if off when I’m not around."

Mrs Greenway, who keeps 11 horses at the stables, added: “You would have thought that playing music to your own horses was allowable but apparently not.

Source: Telegraph

Apparently Mrs. Greenway isn’t the only stable owner to be accosted in this fashion as Chris Doran of the British Horse Society says that the organization has been fielding several calls from other stables about this.
