Veteran wide receiver Chad Johnson, of the Miami Dolphins, has been arrested in Davie, Florida, on charges of domestic violence. Johnson is alleged to have head butted his wife of only six weeks, Evelyn Lozada, after she reportedly found a receipt for condoms purchased by Johnson.

According to Davie Police Captain Dale Engle, the altercation occurred after the Johnson’s returned home from dinner at a nearby restaurant. Engle said,”It gets pretty heated. By the time they get home here in Davie it’s pretty heated. She alleges he leaned over and head butted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads. Needless to say she has a good laceration on her forehead.”

Johnson is being held in the Broward County Jail, where he is awaiting an appearance before a judge. Captain Engle said that Johnson may not appear in court before Monday.

Chad Johnson has been a very busy man lately. He was recently signed by the Dolphins after his release by the New England Patriots. After joining the Dolphins, the NFL receiver recently changed his name back to Johnson from Ochocinco. Johnson and his wife are also starring in this season’s Hard Knocks series on HBO.

His arrest promises to become a major issue for Miami Dolphins management. The recent White House initiative to prevent violence against women, 1 is 2 Many, has received a great deal of publicity and features star NY Giants quarterback, Eli Manning as the spokesperson for the NFL. There have been several other cases of pro football players arrested this year for domestic violence and the league may be forced to act. Certainly, this arrest puts the Dolphins in a very uncomfortable position.

His NFL future is probably not the most important thing on Johnson’s mind, while he spends the weekend in jail. Perhaps he is reflecting on the comments he made on last week’s episode of Hard Knocks, when he said he would get arrested during the off-season. In what turns out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy, Johnson was true to his word.

The Seattle Seahawks have turned down an opportunity to be on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series, which is a summer reality series about NFL teams and training camps.

The HBO series has been hard-pressed to find another team for its 2012 season, and the Seahawks have reportedly turned down the possibility of being on the show.

PFT’s Michael David Smith wrote, according to the Seahawks site that:

“Schneider said the Seahawks weren’t formally offered the spot, but that when they were approached, they decided they didn’t want to do it.”

Pete Carroll, the Seattle team’s head coach, explained on Friday why they refused the gig. NFL.com reports that Carroll stated:

“That’s just not going to suit what we’re trying to get done here. I think it’s a great show, I love watching it, I loved Rex (and) the Bengals.”

He went on to say of the Seattle Seahawks’ turning the show down that:

“I just don’t want to put that in the middle of our process. We’re trying to win football games and hopefully we can entertain that way than rather on the show. It’s just not our style here.”

The Seahawks GM John Schneider went on Pro Football Talk Live on Wednesday to let fans know the team would not be participating, according to SBNation.

Seattle PI’s Nick Eaton wrote of the news that:

“I’m not surprised the Seahawks declined. Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll like to sometimes make a splash — think first-round draft choice Bruce Irvin — but they don’t particularly like being under the microscope. Especially if the image is broadcast on national TV.”

He went on to say that:

“But hey, it would have been cool, right? The Seahawks have a lot of interesting stories this offseason, including in no small part a three-way competition for starting quarterback among Matt Flynn, Tarvaris Jackson and Russell Wilson.”
