Pusuke, a male cross breed, died peacefully on Monday afternoon in Japan at the age of 26, which is approximately the equivalent of 180 human years. Pusuke was recognized last December as the World’s Oldest Dog by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The International Business Times reports that Pusuke died at 26-years-and-nine-months-old, which would make him 182-years-old in human years.

According to WebMD, the general rule to convert dog years to human years it to multiply the dog’s age by seven. (This is a simplified equation, according to WebMD. To get the dog’s accurate age in human years you have to take breed and size into consideration.)

Pusuke’s owner, 42-year-old Yumiko Shinohara, said that her dog was fine during the weeks leading up to his death. On Monday morning, Pusuke lost his appetite and was having trouble breathing. Shinohara said that the world’s oldest dog passed away five minutes after she returned from running errands. Shinohara said:

“I think (Pusuke) waited for me to come home.”

The Guinness Book of World Records used vaccination records to verify that Pusuke was born in March 1985. The last dog to hold the world’s oldest dog title was a 28-year-old Beagle named Butch. Butch passed away in 2003.

The IBTimes reports that Pusuke was almost killed in a car crash in 2008. The dog underwent surgery and lived another three, or 21, years.

Does anyone have a dog who’s more than 100-years-old?

Fauja Singh is now part of the Guinness World Records for being the oldest person ever to complete a full-distance marathon.

The 100-year old marathoner finished the 42 kilometer Toronto Waterfront Marathon yesterday over eight hours or more than six hours after Kenya’s Kenneth Mungara won the event. Singh was the last competitor to complete the race but was eagerly awaited by the media, friends and supporters.

Singh was born on a farm in India in 1911. He started competitive running at the age of 89 after losing his wife and son. Prior to setting the record yesterday, Singh already owns the world record for having the fastest marathon run in the 90-year old category. He set the record at the age of 92 in 2003.

Harmander Singh, the Fauja’s coach and translator, said:

“Beating his original prediction, he’s overjoyed. He’s absolutely overjoyed, he’s achieved his lifelong wish.”

Sunday’s run was Singh’s eighth marathon. He compared finishing the race to getting married again.

The British resident hopes to participate in the torch relay for the 2012 London Games.

“I would like to invite everyone to come help me break the Guinness World Record and let’s ‘Hug It Out,” Cannon, 31, said in statement prior to the event, which went down before last night’s (August 19) Mets vs Brewers game at Citi Field in New York.

According to reports, the “Rollin with Nick Cannon Morning Show” host spiced things up by giving all participants in the hug-fest a commemorative Nick Cannon Mets T-shirt and awarding the first 100 huggers with free tickets to that night’s MLB game.

In a post on his website, Cannon – the recent father to twins with wife Mariah Carey – posted , “I am going to make History!”

Cannon’s record attempt has yet to be verified by Guinness officials, but he would have had to beat the current best of 1,749 hugs in an hour, which was set by Nick Vujicic on Sept. 25, 2010.

Regardless of the outcome, the fun-filled event was a sucess as Paper Jamz of WowWee said it would donate one toy for every hug to benefit the children at the Mets Care Room at the New York Hospital of Queens, CBS reports.

If I had a dime for every time a new ‘Best Games Ever’ list appeared before me, I’d have at least thirty-five bucks. So when Guinness World Records set out to find the 50 greatest game series ever, it decided to take a different approach: rather than ask game critics, developers, and industry folk, it asked gamers. The consumers. The fans.

As it turns out, the fans know jack.

I can live with the Halo series at #1. I mean, I wouldn’t pick it in my top ten, personally – I vastly prefer the Half-Life (#14) games, for example – but I can see why people would pick Halo. It’s highly polished, does what it sets out to achieve well, and the first Halo was a genuinely revelatory game. But there’s also some serious nonsense in this list – Killzone (#33) above Mario Kart (#47)? Skate (#34) above the brilliant Diablo games (#45)?

Debates of taste aside, Guinness readers also seem to struggle with the concept of what a “series” is. For example, quite a few games here (Goldeneye 007, Chrono Trigger) are single games. Honestly, the stupid is making my head hurt. Here’s the sloppy list in its entirety:

1. Halo
2. Call of Duty
3. The Legend of Zelda
4. Guitar Hero
5. Metal Gear
6. Super Mario Bros.

He Pingping, who held the Guinness Book of World Records title for the world’s smallest man, has died at the age of 21 in Italy.

Pingping, of Wulanchabu, China, stood just 29 inches tall when he was measured by Guinness in March of 2008. The young man’s family in China expressed shock at his sudden death, saying that he’d contacted them from Italy in recent days to say he was homesick:

“We just did not expect this bad news,” his sister He Lihua told AFP over the phone from Baotou, a city in the northern region of Inner Mongolia where he lived.

“Pingping went to Italy… and he called us every day saying he wasn’t eating well and that he missed us.”

Pingping’s sister He Lihua said her brother had been filming a show in Italy and showed no signs of ill health before he left on the trip:

“Unfortunately we cannot go there and we can only wait for his body to come back,” He said, adding that the family would be asking the Italian company behind the television show to pay for the funeral.

Guinness World Records released a statement following Pingping’s death:

“I had the pleasure of meeting Pingping back in 2008 in Inner Mongolia,” said Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday, who was the first to confirm Pingping’s status as the world’s shortest man. “From the moment I laid on eyes on him I knew he was someone special – he had such a cheeky smile and mischievous personality, you couldn’t help but be charmed by him. He brightened up the lives of everyone he met, and was an inspiration to anyone considered different or unusual”. Glenday continued ‘Pingping showed us that, despite the challenges we face, we can still make the most out of life, and for such a small man, he made a huge impact around the world. Everyone at Guinness World Records is very saddened by the loss of such a wonderful, engaging, fascinating character – he will be greatly missed and we would like to offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

A man named by the Guinness Book of World Records as being the world’s most litigious man has sued the publisher for giving him the title.

Jonathan “Johnny Sue-nami” Lee Riches of Lexington, Kentucky claims in his lawsuit that Guinness is planning to print false information about the number of lawsuits he has filed. Riches also objects to the names he is called by the publication, which include Lawsuit Zeus, The litigator crusader, the duke of lawsuits, Sue-per-man and the Patrick Ewing of suing.

According to The Spokesman-Review, Riches has previously tried to sue President George W. Bush, Somali pirates, Britney Spears, Martha Stewart, Plato, Nostradamus, James Hoffa, “Various Buddhist Monks,” the Lincoln Memorial, the Eiffel Tower and Three Mile Island.

It’s probably pertinent to note Riches current Lexington address: the Federal Medical Center, a medical facility for inmates, where he is receiving “treatment for mental-health problems.”

At last count, Riches is believed to have filed over 4,000 lawsuits.

Guinness World Records announced that China’s Bao Xi Shun (7 feet 8.95 inches) has recaptured the record as the world’s Tallest Living Man from Ukrainian Leonid Stadnyk (8 feet 5.5 inch).

Guidelines for the title were amended earlier this year, in order to ensure the highest level of accuracy in determining this category. All contenders to the Tallest Living Man title must now be measured in person by an official Guinness World Records adjudicator. As a result, Xi Shun, who lost the recognition last year to Stadnyk, is re-crowned in the 2009 edition of the Guinness World Records.

Guinness World Records crowned Stadnyk the world’s Tallest Living Man based on a statement provided by his medical practitioner and not by an official measurement by Guinness officials.

The company decided to tighten its rules and stipulate that a doctor’s testimony no longer suffices as evidence for any “tallest” or “shortest” claim. After repeated requests to measure Stadnyk in person went unanswered, Guinness World Records returned the title to Xi Shun in compliance with its new regulations.
