David Furnish, husband of Elton John attacked Madonna after her song “Masterpiece” won best song in a motion picture this past weekend at the Golden Globes.

In his attack he said of her victory:

“Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it’s narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is.”

Now after a cool down period Furnish has issued a halfhearted apology in which he wrote on his Facebook page:

“Wow!  What a tempest in a teapot.  My passion for our film ‘Gnomeo & Juliet’ and belief in Elton’s song really got my emotional juices going.”

David Furnish then added:

“But I must say for the record that I do believe Madonna is a great artist, and that Elton and I wish her all the best for next week’s premiere of the film ‘W.E.’”

It’s a back handed compliment rolled into a bit of praise for his husband while offering amends, pretty much exactly what I would expected from David Furnish.

For her part Madonna never really seemed to care for an apology and after Elton John himself attacked her Madonna revealed:

“He’s been known to get mad at me so I don’t know,” she continued. “He’s brilliant and I adore him so he’ll win another award. I don’t feel bad!”

During the 2012 Golden Globe Awards Morgan Freeman was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille aware for career achievement.

As is standard practice the Hollywood Foreign Press Association put together some of the actors most memorable clips including The Shawshank Redemption, Invictus and Driving Miss Daisy. However it may not have been the “classics” he starred in that earned him the biggest notice of the night.

Near the end of the Morgan Freeman presentation he was shown dressed as a vampire, sopaing himself down inside a casket for the 1974 TV series The Electric Company.

Obviously the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has plenty of respect for Morgan Freeman or they wouldn’t have given him the award, it’s just nice to know that they can also have a sense of humor about their own show. After all the Golden Globes are the laid back Academy Awards.

Elton John and Madonna have had an ongoing  feud for years and now John’s husband David Furnish has helped stoke the flames of that hatred by calling Madonna for beating Elton in the best song category for “Masterpiece” at this years Golden Globes.

Writing on Facebook Furnish said:  ”Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!!”

Furnish then continued:

“Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it’s narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is.”

It wasn’t just Furnish who was pissed at the choice in winner, John looked outright pissed as cameras showed him during the speech.  Watch below:

Did you notice how the audience seemed bored out of their minds during what I agree was a rather narcissistic acceptance speech.

The mean words for Madonna started on the red carpet when Elton John said of her song that she, ”hasn’t got a f***ing chance” of winning.”

Madonna then fired back about John wearing a dress when she noted “May the best man win.”

After the show Madonna did say she wanted to speak to Elton John:

“He’s been known to get mad at me so I don’t know,” she continued. “He’s brilliant and I adore him so he’ll win another award. I don’t feel bad!”

Last night, Peter Dinklage took home the Golden Globe for his performance on “Game of Thrones.” Dinklage, a dwarf who stands at 4 feet and five inches, thanked the regular people during his speech. But at the end, he asked the audience to Google Martin Henderson and walked off stage.

Dinklage said:

“I want to mention a gentleman I’m thinking about in England. Martin Henderson. Google him.”

Dinklage was referring to Martin Henderson, a British dwarf who recently lost the ability to walk thanks to some drunken dwarf tossing. The Daily Mail reports that Henderson was celebrating his birthday with some friends when an anonymous man picked him up outside the bar and threw him. Henderson damaged his spine in the dwarf tossing incident and can no longer walk without assistance.

Henderson recalled the incident, telling Deadspin:

“From what I remember, there was only one person involved but it was very scary as I didn’t know what was going on. I guess I was an easy target and the only reason I was picked on was because I am small. People’s attitudes to me when I go out can be pretty cruel. Most are OK but you get the odd idiot who will make fun and start laughing at me. You just have to ignore it but this is the first time I have been picked up and thrown about.”

Police believe that the incident involving Martin Henderson was inspired by a group of rugby players from England that were caught dwarf tossing following a win against Argentina.

But not all dwarfs are against dwarf tossing. In Florida, Ritch Workman is working to lift a ban on dwarf tossing saying that it takes away job opportunities in Florida. Of course, unlike in the case of Martin Henderson, those dwarfs are allowing themselves to be tossed.

Last night, Kelsey Grammer welcomed a little gold man into his life as he won the best actor award for a television series at the Golden Globes. Soon after he announced that he was expecting twins with his wife Kayte Walsh.

After grabbing his Golden Globe, Grammer said backstage:

“I’m really looking forward to meeting these new arrivals… Fatherhood’s always different, based upon the character that comes into your life. They arrive and tell you what you have to do.”

Grammer’s confidence about his parenting skills is bolstered by the fact that he’ll be raising the twins with his wife, Kayte Walsh. Grammer told People Magazine:

“[Kayte is] extraordinary. She’s one of the most loving, amazing, warm human beings I’ve ever met. She’s funny and serious all at the same time. She’s an amazing person and I think she’ll blow [the kids] away.”

Grammer won his Golden Globe award last night for his performance in the new series “Boss.” Grammer already has two Golden Globes for “Frasier.”

Streep has opened up on the research required to play Margaret Thatcher: “I think coming into this I had a very reductive view of Margaret Thatcher, so I sort of did what we all do to political figures we don’t agree with — we turn them into something more than human and less than human at the same time. And it was interesting to look at the human being behind the headlines … in the winter of that life and to have a compassionate view of someone with whom I disagree.”

The great actress admitted that the role had helped her to see her own character in a truer light: “I’ve never really gotten to the bottom of me and all the contradictions I find in my own personality, and I feel like I find myself and parts of myself … through the characters that I play.” Long may she reign.

Meryl Streep has received 28 Golden Globe nominations and has won 8, for movies including The Devil Wears Prada and Sophie’s Choice. She has also won 2 Academy Awards and will be hoping to bag another one for her role in The Iron Lady.

Ricky Gervais was back to host the Golden Globes 2012 on Sunday night, after his faux-controversial roasting of celebrities last year. This year, however, at least one celeb target bit back harder (and better): Madonna.

After introducing the pop legend as “all woman. She’s always vogue. She’s a material girl. And she’s just like a virgin [theatrical cough],” Madonna took the stage and quipped back:

“If I’m still just like a virgin, Ricky, then why don’t you come over here and do something about it? I haven’t kissed a girl in a few years — [long dramatic comedy pause] — on TV.”

Gervais could then be seen sprinting across the back of the stage, as if he were running from the prospect of having sex with Madonna. Because, you see, he found the idea of sleeping with Madonna abhorrent. I … I would say your sides are probably safe from splitting.

Overall, Gervais’s hosting at the 2011 Globes was viewed widely as career suicide in the immediate aftermath of the awards, but of course that was always a myth played up by the Globes and Gervais to enhance his ‘edgy’ credentials. Gervais was back in the role by November.

The truth is Gervais’s 2011 ribbing was (a) not remotely ‘edgy’ (b) very hit-and-miss and (c) directed at the exact same people he’s matey with off-stage (and recruits in his sitcoms), despite his wafer-thin pretense that he despises shallow celebrity culture.

Still, I did like The Office a lot. Oh, to have that Gervais back again. Here’s the (I’m sure very well-prepared) exchange between him and Madonna:

Almost half a million DirecTV subscribers found themselves in the dark Sunday night, after a dispute between DirecTV and Sunbeam Television meant they missed the Packers-Giants NFL playoff game (spoiler: Giants won) and then the Golden Globes.

Areas affected included Miami, where 250,000 customers of Fox-affiliate WSVN reside, and Boston, which has 200,000 viewers of CW affiliate WLVI and NBC affiliate WHDH. Any subscriber settling down in those areas to enjoy the game and slebs will have been sorely disappointed.

Reportedly, DirecTV made a direct request to Sunbeam to air the game without a contract (lulz). Not very amazingly, Sunbeam declined. And that’s when the finger-pointing began.

DirecTV rapidly released a statement last night about the situation, essentially accusing Sunbeam of attempting to rip customers off. DirecTV, implied the statement, was simply standing up for its customers’ rights:

“DirecTV is working hard to bring back your local channel as quickly as possible, but we are standing firm on behalf of our customers against Sunbeam and WHDH, LLC attempts to extort a more than 300 percent fee increase to carry WSVN in Miami, and WHDH and WLVI in Boston. Paying such outrageous fees will only cause your DIRECTV bill to go even higher and we are doing everything we can to prevent that.”

I’m not sure how many tempers that would have calmed, but as you might have guessed, with no game to watch, Twitter provided a stage for many raging subscribers. The social media site was awash with protest tweets to DirecTV, who could do little but sheepishly tweet back to customers directions on how they might pick up the signal from out-of-area transmissions.

Sunbeam hasn’t passed any comment, though WHDH had a notice on the front page of its site saying:

“We are working hard to reach an agreement with DirecTV so that you can receive our signal again. Until we do you will not be able to view WHDH and WLVI on DirecTV, but you can receive Channel 7 and Channel 56 over the air and from other cable and satellite providers. We are seeking fair market value for the transmission of our signal. We have been able to negotiate deals with several other providers. We appreciate your viewership and hope to be back on DirecTV as soon as possible.”

What a sorry mess. Did anyone here miss the game or Ricky Gervais doing his not-actually-that-shocking roasting shtick?

Talk about awkward? Demi Moore and ex-husband Ashton Kutcher met up at a CAA Golden Globes party at Soho House in Hollywood.

According to Hollywood Life, Moore and Kutcher managed to avoid each other for the majority of the night but when the did meet up it was cordial.

“Within five minutes of them seeing each other, Ashton did come over,” a source says. “It was a crowded room so he made his way over. Demi and Ashton, and Madonna and Sean Penn, were talking and hanging out. Ashton and Demi didn’t arrive together, or spend the whole night together, but it was 100 percent normal. There wasn’t an issue.”

Kutcher and Moore separated and filed for divorce this year over an affair Kutcher had with 22 year old Sara Leal.

Since the separation, it has been rumored that Demi Moore has not been doing so well.  The day after the Golden Globes, she was spotted at a charity event looking painfully skinny.

Tonight, Rainey Qualley, the daughter of Andy MacDowell, will have an important job during the 2012 Golden Globes. Qualley will be taking on the role of Miss Golden Globe tonight and will out the statuettes to actors and actresses.

It’s a Hollywood tradition for celebrity offspring to take on the role of Miss Golden Globe. Rumor Willis, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, Laura Dern, the daughter of Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern, and Kathryn Eastwood, the daughter of Clint Eastwood and Gia Mantegna have all had the honor of being Miss Golden Globe. Still, MacDowell said that she was surprised to hear the news.

MacDowell told Access Hollywood:

“[It was] a complete surprise… [I'm] so thankful for her. She’s working really hard to try and make it in this business.”

MacDowell said that she wanted to give her daughter some pointers, but admitted that she’s never really been in that position before. MacDowell said:

“I watched the videos [showing what] she had to do. I had no idea how much responsibility there really was with it. There’s a lot of responsibility… You have to be articulate. She’s a smart girl and she’s got a beautiful heart, so I’m hoping it all goes really well for her… I don’t think that [all the star power] will scare her or intimidate her because she’s been with me on sets and stuff like that… “

The Wall Street Journal reports that after Rainey Qualley completes her duties as Miss Golden Globe, she’ll stay in LA for a while to audition for acting roles.

Qualley said:

“My boyfriend and I have been looking at apartments; hopefully we’ll find something soon. I’m planning to audition and write songs and meet with anybody I can. The best thing that would happen? I’d book a movie.”

Qualley just finished filming her first movie, “Mighty Fine.” The movie doesn’t have a release date yet but is currently in post-production. Qualley is also an aspiring musician. Here’s a video of her singing “Peach in My Pocket.”

The comedy has been nominated for two Globes – ‘Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy’ and one for Deschanel herself as ‘Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy’. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Deschanel (like the self-consciously oh-so-’wacky’ charmingly kooky character she is) said the experience had been, “like … like, cake and ice cream.” She added:

“I’ve been working a really long time as an actress — I know how special and rare it is to get recognized like this.”

Deschanel plays the titular heroine, a girl who moves in with three guys after a humiliating split from her boyfriend. The actress called her nomination a “total surprise.” But how would her character, Jess, react?

“She would totally trip and fall and walk into a wall. I know that because she’s like me and that’s sort of what I did. We worked a really long day yesterday so I was so tired this morning. I accidentally punched my wrist into a wall. I tend to walk into things when I’m tired I forget where my body ends and the world begins.”

The LA Times also spoke to New Girl‘s creator, Liz Meriwether. Meriwether “semi-based” Jess on her own life, and the nomination has plainly gone to somebody‘s head:

“In a weird way, it’s like a life nomination.”

Yeah. It’s … really not, Liz.

The Hollywood Foreign Press has just announced that Rainey Qualley, the daughter of Andie MacDowell, will be the 2012 Miss Golden Globe.

Rainey, an actress and musician, said:

“I am honored to be selected as the 2012 Miss Golden Globe. It’s very exciting to be a part of an awards show like the Golden Globes so early on in my career.”

President of the Hollywood Foreign Press, Dr. Aida Takla-O’Reilly, made the announcement. Takla-O’Reilly said:

“We are delighted that this year’s Miss Golden Globe is Rainey. She is a talented and beautiful young woman. We’re excited to have her as part of this year’s show.”

Andie MacDowell’s daughter isn’t the only celebrity child to be named Miss Golden Globe. Rumor Willis, the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis was named Miss Golden Globe in 2009. Laura Dern (daughter of Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern), Kathryn Eastwood (daughter of Clint Eastwood) and Gia Mantegna (daughter of Joe Mantegna) have also had the honor of being Miss Golden Globe.

Access Hollywood reports that Rainey Qualley is currently working on her first feature film and is about to release her first album.

The 2012 Golden Globe Awards will broadcast live on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 8/7c on NBC. Controversial host Ricky Gervais will be taking the mic again this year.

Why fix what constantly insults you, causes controversy, and brings in a huge audience? Yep, Ricky Gervais has been asked to host the Golden Globes again.

Gervais, who first hosted the Globes in 2010, caused an uproar after the ceremony for hurting the sensitive feelings of various celebrities. The audience loved him and his monologues kept people talking about the Golden Globes for weeks.

After initially saying that Gervais would never host the Golden Globes again, the Hollywood Foreign Press asked Gervais to host again in 2011. Gervais agreed and managed to offend even more people.

“After weeks of rumours it’s finally official—Ricky Gervais will be back to host the Golden Globes for a third year, the HFPA president Dr. Aida Takla O’Reilly announced. The association voted overwhelmingly for the controversial British comedian’s return and NBC’s senior vice president of special events and late night programming, Doug Vaughan, said: “Ricky is delighted to be coming back.  He said the Golden Globes show is the most fun he has ever had.”

Ricky confirmed his commitment on Twitter, saying:

“Just told Billy Crystal he’d better not use any of my holocaust or pedophile material at the Oscars. He agreed (true),”

Over the last four decades, Morgan Freeman has added Oscars, Golden Globes, and SAG awards to his trophy shelf. The decorated actor can now add the Cecil B. Demille award to his ever growing collection.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced today that Freeman will be given the Cecil B. DeMille Award, a lifetime achievement award, at the 69th annual Globes ceremony on Jan. 15.

According to IMDB, Freeman made his big screen debut in 1965 in the movie “The Pawnbroker.” Since then he has starred in classic films like “Shawshank Redemption,” “Driving Miss Daisy,” “Seven,” and “Unforgiven.” He won an Oscar in 2004 for his performance in “Million Dollar Baby.”

The versatile actor has played God, a prison inmate, a detective, a slave, a driver, a soldier, and the president. Here’s a look at some of Morgan Freeman’s roles.

Freeman has been in the movie business for more than 40 years, but his career shows no signs of slowing down. In the last 5 years Freeman has starred in some of Hollywood’s biggest hits like “The Dark Knight,” “Red,” and “Invictus.”

The Associated Press reports that the Cecil B. DeMille Award is chosen by the board of directors for the foreign press group. The board consists of about 90 reporters that cover Hollywood from international markets.

Robert De Niro won the award last year. Steven Spielberg, Jack Nicholson, and Clint Eastwood are also Cecil B. DeMile award winners.

Dick Clark Productions and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association are officially going to trial to determine who has the rights to negotiate television deals on behalf of the Golden Globe Awards.

A U.S. District judge decided to send the case to trial after Dick Clark Productions extended its agreement with NBC to air the pre-Oscars award show through 2018, while the Hollywood Foreign Press Association sued them in November, claiming that the production company did not have the right to make that long-term deal.

Judge Valerie Baker Fairbank refused to side with either party, instead noting:

“The court finds that the disputed portion of the 1993 amendment is reasonable susceptible to the interpretations of both parties.”

The judge called for a jury trial to begin Aug. 30.

In a release following that statement HFPA’s President Aida Takla-O’Reilly said:

“We look forward to proceeding to trial and vindicating our rights.”

While Dick Clark Productions countered their statement by noting:

“We firmly believe our position will be vindicated as we were within our contract rights to make the NBC deal,” while adding, “The HFPA knows this all too well and is simply trying to rewrite the contract through litigation.”

The ruling could affect the new contract that Dick Clark productions has signed with NBC should the jury find in favor of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The ruling is not expected to affect the next showing of the Golden Globe Awards but if it did would you be upset if the Golden Globes ran into issues because of this squabble?

Apparently, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is displeased with Ricky Gervais, a man who is famous for being bitchy and making people uncomfortable, for being bitchy and making people uncomfortable- if an anonymous source allegedly from the association is to be believed.

Gervais unsurprisingly attacked some of Hollywood’s most snarked about celebrities, even throwing in a gay joke about Tom Cruise and John Travolta. According to the anonymous source quoted by PopEater, not only did the comments DQ him from future Golden Globes hosting gigs- whomever made the comment insinuated Gervais could be retaliated against professionally:

“Ricky will not be invited back to host the show next year, for sure,” a member of the HFPA tells me, adding that Gervais’ relentlessly mean shtick could have even larger consequences. “For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated. He humiliated the organization last night and went too far with several celebrities whose representatives have already called to complain.”

It’s been widely speculated that Gervais was dressed down for his cheek during the event, and the comedian was notably absent for a large portion of the evening- disappearing for over an hour before he returned to the stage just before the ceremony concluded. Whatever may have been said to Gervais, it didn’t stop him from a controversial closing remark:

“Thank God for making me an atheist.”

Since most of celebrity news is snark-infused these days, is the HFPA being a bit touchy here? Does America want to see a kissy-lovefest, or is roasting celebrities a bit more in line with the public’s tastes nowadays?

Jimmy Fallon says the Golden Globes is like “one of the coolest parties.” Random British lady says Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman and Olivia Wilde are the hottest bitches on the red carpet tonight. Natalie Portman looks all pregnant and stuff.

7:58 Random British lady says January Jones has a “bangin’” body, and also would like to add she has “Bieber fever,” and he side hugs. Carson Daly is still insufferable. How is is still on TV?

8:16 Kevin Spacey and Julianne Moore are presenting Best Mini-Series or Movie (Television), along with Joe Mantegna’s daughter. And the winner is… Carlos? They are musicing the French guy, but he will not be cowed, and continues to be French at us.

8:21 Bwahahaha, Ashton Kutcher’s dad, Bruce Willis. Now he’s gone, and Leighton Meester is presenting Best Supporting Actor (Television), along with some dude. The Golden Globe goes TO CHRIS COLFER FOR GLEE! Yay, Kurt! OMG, he is so cute and excited and said he dropped his heart between Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore. He’s implying all the stuff Robert Downey Jr. has done is gay, and threw in a crack about RDJ’s drug use. RDJ snarked back. Now he’s saying he tried to sleep with all his former co-stars. Oooh! He said “I’d give it to all five of you. At once.” Dirty.

The award RDJ is presenting is Best Actress (Comedy or Musical), which goes to Annette Bening, for The Kids are Alright.

9:10 That was a long commercial break. Sylvester Stallone is inexplicably on stage, presenting a montage of The Fighter. Now Geoffrey Rush and Tilda Swinton are presenting, and Tilda Swinton looks reliably insane and is wearing a bedsheet and no lipstick. The Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Mini Series or TV Movie goes to Al Pacino, for You Don’t Know Jack. Apparently, Al Pacino gets to talk as long as he wants with no music, so screw you Steve Buscemi.

Claire Danes wins Best Actress in a Mini Series or TV Movie, for Temple Grandin- her second win after My So Called Life. Temple Grandin is in the audience. “Everyone was so viiiital,” Danes whines.

9:23 Oh, hello, Zac Efron. Looking inappropriately handsome. Ricky Gervais introduces Tina Fey and Steve Carrell by saying Carrell is ungrateful for leaving The Office. Aaron Sorkin wins Best Screenplay for The Social Network. I think he’s on mushrooms. Sorkin says elite isn’t a “bad word,” which I think is a bit of a political jibe there.

Avatar was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama this evening, and heads into the Academy Awards as a short priced favorite for Best Picture.

The award for Avatar followed director James Cameron picking up the best director award earlier in the evening.

Even if Avatar isn’t successful at the Academy Awards, the picture is heading for new records, and is currently set to become the highest grossing film of all time.

Director James Cameron took the opportunity to say that those in the room had the best jobs in the world, and said that he believed that Avatar represented the best of cinema.

Winners of the Best Picture Musical or Comedy Golden Globes aren’t a good measure for the Academy Awards, however with the award expect The Hangover to at least get a remote look in.
