The X-Files 3 could be coming to a theater near you if series star Gillian Anderson has anything to do with it. Anderson played Agent Dana Scully alongside David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder on nine seasons of the hit Fox series. She also rejoined Duchovny for two film continuations.

But Anderson has always believed that the characters didn’t get the proper sendoff, and now she’s hoping that schedules can clear up to right the ship.

In an interview with Collider posted earlier this week, Anderson said, “It feels like it needs one more chapter, in terms of the films. I think we all feel like having one more film out there will wrap it up nicely. It’s really just a matter of when. Now, in terms of my schedule, I don’t know when that when is. I’m not in any immediate rush to be calling Chris [Carter, series creator] and tapping my foot, but if it’s meant to happen, it will happen.”

Anderson was encouraged by how well the show has performed on Netflix, adding that “the fact that it’s having a second life with the children who were obsessed with it is really awesome.”

“There’s a whole new generation out there that’s discovering it on Netflix, and that’s great,” she added.

The X-Files: Fight the Future hit theaters in 1998 and grossed $83.9 million domestically, picking up an additional $105.2 million overseas. With a worldwide take of $189.1 million, it was a respectable showing.

Unfortunately, Fox would let 10 years lapse before The X-Files: I Want To Believe came along to continue the story. By then, audiences had moved on to other franchises, but according to Box Office Mojo, the film’s meager gross of $68.3 million worldwide still managed to make it a tidy profit on a budget of just $30 million.

With both films successful (to varying degrees) and the streaming revolution breathing new life into the past shows, it’s easy to see why Gillian Anderson would want to dust this one off. Here’s a trailer for the last film to jog your memories:

The question remaining: would it be a priority for Duchovny and Carter?

Carter has been largely inactive for the last five years in the writing and directing departments — and he may want to keep it that way — while Duchovny has found new life in the hit Showtime series Californication.

But if Anderson, who is now starring in Hannibal and The Fall, can stay busy and still make X-Files 3 a priority, then there’s hope. And frankly, this seems like it might be a good idea for the next big Kickstarter movie project.

If Zach Braff and Veronica Mars can pull it off, then why not?

Gillian Anderson’s new thriller The Fall drew 3.5 million viewers with its May 13 premier. The psychological thriller is BBC Two’s highest-rated program since 2005.

The Fall was written by Allan Cubitt, and produced by Artists Studios. Cubitt is credited with writing hit series’ including Murphy’s Law, and Runaway. The series is directed by Jakob Verbruggen.

As reported by Hollywood Reporter, the five episode season follows the story of a police detective and the serial killer that she is tasked with capturing. Gillian Anderson plays detective Stella Gibson, with the Metropolitan Police. Gibson struggles with her own demons as she hunts down the killer.

The serial killer, played by former Calvin Klein model Jamie Dornan, is sadistic and seemingly random in his killing. Dornan’s character, Paul Spector, is a husband and father, working as a mental health counselor during the day. His double life only enhances the tension and mystery.

A review by the Telegraph, describes the suspense and tension as “Hitchcockian flair.” The review highlights excellent choice in actors, theme, and “superb background music.”

Gillian Anderson is well known for her role as Dana Scully in the X-Files from 1993-2002. She and her co-star David Duchovny, as Fox Mulder, investigated claims of the paranormal. As agents with the FBI, the partners sought to explain the impossible, and remain unharmed, through a series of tense and bizarre situations.

As reported by IMDB, Anderson won a Golden Globe in 1997 for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV-Series – Drama, for her work on The X-Files. She has been nominated for 45 awards, and won 18 throughout her acting career.

Her newest endeavor is already a hit. BBC Drama controller Ben Stephenson calls The Fall “an outstandingly imagined piece of series television.” He states that it is “particularly gratifying” that audience agrees.

X-Files alum Gillian Anderson’s daughter tried to follow in her mother’s footsteps, but following a miserable experience on stage, she has decided not to pursue a career in acting. Gillian couldn’t be more thrilled.

The star’s 18-year-old daughter Piper Maru recently made her acting debut in an amateur stage play, which was described as “torturous.” She hated it so much that she has elected not to pursue a career in acting like her mom.

Instead of being upset over Maru’s decision, Anderson is actually thrilled. Not because she’s mean or anything, but because she doesn’t want her daughter to choose any type of life she’s not willing to give 100 percent of herself to.

“She just did her first play and hated it. I’m relieved; it’s not an easy road to choose,” Anderson told Stylist magazine.

“I remember my dad sitting me down when he heard it’s what I’d decided to do. He was very concerned and told me only five per cent of actors are working at any given time and I should learn word processing because computers were going to change things a lot and I would have a skill to fall back on. Which is brilliant, but what he didn’t know was that my brain just doesn’t work that way.”

So what’s next for Maru? Who knows, but Anderson gave her some pretty solid advice in a recent interview.

“Right now my daughter’s planning a gap year and I’m hoping she will properly explore the world, but I keep thinking what happens if she meets somebody and that somebody lives somewhere else and she decides that actually what she wants to do is be with that person and go and start having kids.

“I’m encouraging her to follow her heart in big things rather than following men. The amount of time wasted on that… ridiculous.”

Another Hannibal trailer has arrived from NBC. The network released a dark and violent looking two minutes or so on Thursday, and, Lecter fans, “violent” is an understatement.

The footage showed corpses aplenty with numerous scenes of bodies impaled on antlers and blood peppering almost every frame in this graphic retelling of the mythos, which began with Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon.

Entertainment Weekly speculated on Thursday that, from the look of the Hannibal trailer, the series might be trying to outdo Fox’s The Following on blood and gore.

But with a series telling the back story of a character, who once ripped off the face of a security guard to escape prison — see Silence of the Lambs — one must wonder who the real trendsetter is.

Word broke in June 2012 that Casino Royale villain Mads Mikkelsen would be taking over the iconic role of Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter.

Brian Cox was the first to do so in the 1986 film Manhunter. He was followed by the more popular Sir Anthony Hopkins in the Best Picture-winning follow-up Silence of the Lambs.

(Don’t get us started on which is the better film, though.)

Since then, interest in the project has grown, attracting top talents, such as Laurence Fishburne and X-Files alum Gillian Anderson.

The series premiere has been slated for April 4 with the thirteenth and final episode of this run set for June 27, according to IMDb.

After watching the trailer below, you’ll have more questions than ever as to how NBC will handle this.

While the 2002 film Red Dragon — a retelling of the novel and the prior Michael Mann effort Manhunter — filled in some of the gaps in the Lecter-Will Graham back story, this is new territory, and it’s still iffy whether Lecter will be apprehended by the season finale.

If so, where would Hannibal go from there?

Would Graham (played by Hugh Dancy following in the footsteps of William Petersen and Edward Norton) have a place in season two? Would the TV series devote one season to re-filming the Red Dragon story a third time?

Will Clarice Starling ever make an appearance?

The Hannibal trailer answers nothing, but it does imply a brutally faithful reboot. Will you be watching?

A new Gillian Anderson pilot is in the works at NBC, adding another television series to the popular actress’ impressive resume.

Gillian Anderson, of X Files fame, has been cast alongside Rachael Taylor, who was recently seen on ABC’s 666 Park Avenue. The yet-to-be-named pilot, described as a drama thriller, is set to be written by Rand Ravich (Life).

Cinema Blend describes the television series as a drama centered around a mass kidnapping conspiracy with political ties. Anderson joins the cast as Meg Fitch, a woman raising the daughter of her estranged sister — a career-focused Secret Service agent.

When the President’s son is kidnapped, several of the boy’s classmates, including Meg’s niece Amber, are abducted along with him. Rachael Taylor is set to play the estranged sister, Agent Susie Dunn, who becomes the FBI point person in the kidnapping case.

Despite past transgressions that have led to the sisters’ estrangement, they join forces in an effort to uncover the multilevel conspiracy and bring Amber home.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Gillian Anderson pilot, if successful, could translate into a long overdue significant role for the actress. Anderson’s last major television lead was in the beloved X Files series, which saw its conclusion in 2002.

Following her turn as Agent Scully, the actress has popped up in several television supporting roles. She was recently seen in Encore’s miniseries Moby Dick and has been announced as a multiple-episode guest star in the upcoming NBC drama Hannibal.

X-Files alumnus Gillian Anderson has signed on to appear in NBC’s Hannibal series, based on the Thomas Harris novels and the films adapted from them.

MSN notes that Anderson’s participation in the new series marks her return to TV after a 10 year absence, during which she has appeared in several films, including X-Files: I Want to Believe in 2008.

According to EW, Anderson is set to appear in a multi-episode story arc as Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier, the personal therapist to the murderous Dr. Hannibal Lecter (portrayed by Casino Royale‘s Mads Mikkelsen).

“Every therapist needs their own head examined and we are ecstatic that Gillian Anderson has chosen Hannibal to mark her return to American television after 10 years to portray Dr. Lecter’s personal psychiatrist,” writer-producer Bryan Fuller said in a statement. “Her intelligence and sophistication, not to mention her pedigree of ground-breaking TV, make her the perfect actress to match wits and psychological manipulations with one of the greatest villains of pop culture. I couldn’t be more excited.”

Interestingly, iMDB reports that Anderson was actually in the running to play series staple Clarice Starling in the 2001 adaptation of Hannibal after Jodie Foster dropped out of the Silence of the Lambs sequel. Anderson’s contract with X-Files reportedly didn’t allow her to portray another FBI agent, so the role ultimately went to Julianne Moore.

The TV adaptation of Hannibal already boasts an impressive all-star roster. In addition to leads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy, the series has also signed on Laurence Fishburne, Eddie Izzard, Gina Torres, Molly Shannon, Ellen Greene and Chelan Simmons.

David Duchovny reveals that the truth is out there! Following reports that Duchovny and his X-Files co-star Gillian Anderson have been secretly dating and living together, Duchovny has spoken out against the rumors.

David Duchovny, whose on again off again relationship with ex wife Tea Leoni has been tabloid fodder for years, had his rep deny reports that he’s dating former X-Files costar Gillian Anderson. Of the reports that have stated Duchovny is in a romantic relationship with Anderson, David’s rep says it’s all “completely untrue.”

Rumors of David and Gillian’s romantic relationship started to swirl when Anderson revealed that she had split with long term love Mark Griffiths. The original report was said that Duchovny and Anderson moved in together and shared a home in Los Angeles in the wake of Anderson’s split with her love of six years.

A report had been picked up saying that David and Gillian had been secretly dating for quite some time before Gillian moved in with her former colleague. However, those rumors have now been shot down by Duchovny’s rep, who unequivocally denies the story. While there is no blossoming romance between the two stars, the actor’s rep says that they “remain close friends.”

This isn’t the first time Gillian Anderson has admitted to her relationships going south. In 1994, the actress married X-Files assistant art director Clyde Klotz, and the two had a daughter together but divorced in 1997. Her second marriage came in 2004 when she married Julian Ozanne, which lasted for two years. Meanwhile, Duchovny married Tea Leoni in 1997 but divorced in 2009 and briefly resumed their relationship before officially separating again last year.

A long time before Gillian Anderson was Agent Scully on “The X-Files,” she dated girls. The actress told Out Magazine that she had a very interesting dating life when she was in high school. Anderson dated girls, older guys, and punk rock drug addicts.

Anderson told Out Magazine:

“I was in a relationship with a girl for a long time when I was in high school, and then I was in a relationship with a punk rock drug addict. I’m old enough that I can talk about that. And then I was in a relationship with somebody who was way, way older than me.”

Anderson said that she was a rebellious teenager at the time and liked to date people that made her step out of her comfort zone. Anderson said:

“Everything that that kind of anarchistic attitude brings — the inappropriate behavior it leads to — was how I chose to be in the world at that time, which was, you know, not what people did.”

But even though Anderson admits to having lesbian relationships, the actress said that she always knew that she was straight. Anderson added:

“If I had thought I was 100% gay, would it have been a different experience for me? Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that become huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation? It’s possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys.”

Anderson also revealed that she was offered a part on “Downton Abbey.” Anderson declined the role but will soon start working with PBS on another project. Anderson will star in “Great Expectations” which premieres on April 1st on PBS.
