Today is National Coming Out Day. And although a few people may find the courage to tell the world that they’re gay today, National Coming Out Day is more about celebrating the people who already have. Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and transgender people are being celebrated across the country today.

Ke$ha has teamed up with the Human Rights Campaign to help celebrate the LGBT holiday by creating T-shirts that proclaim “We R Who We R.” The shirts are selling for $35 on the HRC website, with all proceeds going to the HRC’s work in the LGBT community.

Celebrities, politicians, and other public figures are also being celebrating during October which is LGBT History month. LGBTHistoryMonth.com is posting a video every day this month to celebrate 31 gay icons throughout history. Neil Patrick Harris, Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Alan Cumming, and 27 other gay icons will be celebrated through the videos.

The HRC is also organizing a social media campaign to encourage people to come out of the closet and to support those who have. Members, or supporters, of the LGBT community can donate their Facebook status using the HRC’s Coming Out for Equality Facebook App.

The HRC writes:

“Whether you’re lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or a straight ally, be proud of who you are and your support for LGBT equality this Coming Out Day! Use HRC’s Coming Out for Equality Facebook app to show your support and spread a message of equality to your friends and family. It’s the courage to come out as an active voice for LGBT equality that will result in real political and social change.”

Elton John: “I came out in 1973, at the height of my career, and yeah, it hurt me a little bit, but not that much, and it gave me the freedom to be who I was for the rest of my life. I don’t have to hide around corners. The worst thing is to be afraid of who you are — it’s horrible.”

Portia de Rossi: “Hiding your sexuality is the most horrible way to live and it really does a huge disservice to society; Because if everybody who was gay came out in every profession, teachers, doctors, if everybody came out and said, ‘I’m gay. Who cares?’ [then] it would make a big impact to what’s happening with all this teenage suicide.”

George Michael has been cruising down under according to Gawker, using an iPhone app designed to connect gay men on a local level, ostensibly so they can meet up for tea and scones.

Rumors have circulated previously that the singer, who was famously busted for men’s room cruising back in 1998, has turned his manhunt digital with a handy iPhone app called Grindr. Of the arrest in Los Angeles twelve years ago, Michael said:

“I got followed into the restroom and then this cop — I didn’t know it was a cop, obviously — he started playing this game, which I think is called, ‘I’ll show you mine, you show me yours, and then when you show me yours, I’m going to nick you!”

Michael was fined and given community service work, and later sent up the incident in a video for the song Outside. The Grindr app is potentially less of a misdemeanor, and their site describes the service:

Simply download the Grindr app to view who’s around and start chatting with a local guy. Trade your stats, show off a photo, instant message any guy you like. Share your location on a map and make plans to meet up right away. Or just browse the local scene. Grindr keeps things uncomplicated.

Tipsters have alerted gossip blogs that Michael has been spotted using Grindr with the handle “Back for Wood.” There are no saucier anecdotes as of yet circulating the internet, but it appears Michael is here, queer and on your iPhone, so you Aussie gays should try and get used to it.

It’s pretty cool that he’s not only adopting new technologies, but that he’s comfortable with openly cruising despite his celebrity status. Everyone’s all player hating on George up in the comments, but why does he need a reason to cruise? Why not just because he can, bitches?

Sean Hayes, most famous for his role as show-stealing, flamboyant Jack McFarland on NBC’s “girl and her gay” comedy “Will and Grace,” has confirmed his gayness to The Advocate.

Hayes, who is apparently here and queer, so please get used to it, says he never intended to obfuscate his sexuality, just that it wasn’t necessarily anyone’s business. Hayes states:

As for why Hayes took so long in making his sexual orientation public, he says, “Nobody owes anything to anybody. You are your authentic self to whom and when you choose to be, and if you don’t know somebody, then why would you explain to them how you live your life?”

He adds, “I feel like I’ve contributed monumentally to the success of the gay movement in America, and if anyone wants to argue that, I’m open to it. You’re welcome.”

While Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson were at Disneyland, the drama sh*tstorm continued. After Michael Lohan ran off to tell Pop Tarts that Samantha Ronson is a “dark, hideous and a disgusting representation of humanity,” rumors have circulated that Lindsay’s back to her pre-Cirque days.

Star has revealed that an insider (I wonder who that could be?) claims that “Lindsay’s been drinking, doing cocaine and causing all-around mayhem for the past few months. She quit going to Alcoholics Anonymous and has absolutely never taken recovery seriously. She’s gotten progressively worse, and everyone in her life is really scared.”

How could she have such alleged problems with a good, supportive family behind her? Oh wait.
