Jennifer Lopez is making waves not just for what she looks like in a clinging Tom Ford dress but also for what she stands for. However, her graceful appearance at Thursday night’s amfAR Inspiration Gala in New York didn’t hurt her message any.

The high-neck, painted-on, sapphire-blue dress from Tom Ford’s spring 2011 collection seemed to emphasize JLo’s seductive curves. Lopez appeared wearing the gown for the fourth annual gala which benefits The Foundation for AIDS Research.

Jennifer Lopez had opened up the day before at the Cable Show convention to talk about her July 18 launch of a new programming set on the NUVOtv network. Although she acknowledged that being a performer will always be her passion, she said that she’s finding new meaning on the other side of the camera:

“There’s a big revolution going on, it’s like a media and cultural revolution of Latinos here in the United States. We’re realizing our power. We’re realizing that we matter here. You know, we’re not just, you know, the guys working behind the scenes in the kitchens and as a plumber.”

Later on Wednesday, she met with political leaders including Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) and Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ).

At 43, she’s at an age that’s traditionally difficult for women in the public eye. However, she isn’t about to slow down:

“It’s a new day for women, it’s a new day for Latinos, it’s a new day.”

Sarah Jessica Parker will launch a new line of shoes and bags with partner George Malkemus, CEO of Manolo Blahnik. “In a silly way, I think it’s what people have expected of me most because of Carrie Bradshaw,” the 48-year-old Sex and the City actress confessed to a Vogue reporter.

In the hit HBO series, Carrie had something of a shoe addiction. One of the most-quoted lines from the show was, “I’ve spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes!”

The SPJ collection will be exclusively sold at Nordstrom department stores, and it is expected to appear early next year.

However, it hasn’t been all glamor, all the time, when we’re talking about Sarah Jessica Parker’s choices in footwear.

In March, The Inquisitr reported on SJP’s claim that wearing high heels for too long has left her with deformed feet. While I don’t doubt that the actress believed what she was saying while she was saying it, I’m going to call bull on her statement that she’d grown an extra bone in her foot. But that’s what she reportedly said then:

“I went to a foot doctor and he said, ‘Your foot does things it shouldn’t be able to do. That bone there … you’ve created that bone. It doesn’t belong there.”

If true, ouch. Hey, ouch even if it isn’t true. But I don’t think humans usually grow new bones.

A few days ago, The Daily Mailposted a set of photos that showed the new comfort-lovin’ Sarah Jessica Parker wearing patterned socks with strappy sandals. Ugh. Not a good look for her or anybody else.

Their writer called it a new trend from SJP, but I’m fairly sure she was being cruel.

According to Vogue’s report, the new line of shoes, bags, and even trench coats won’t be nearly as pricey as the original Manolo Blahniks. Single sole pumps will run $300 or less. Bags will be less than $700.

Emma Watson showed off her style in a Chanel dress at the premiere of her new film, The Bling Ring, at the 66th annual Cannes Film Festival on Thursday. The actress sported a monochrome Chanel gown on the red carpet that featured a sequined bodice and a cut-out back.

To top it all off, Watson added three sparkling cuffs on her upper earlobe to complete her look for day two at the festival. She took to the red carpet with co-stars Katie Chang, Taissa Farmiga, and Claire Julien, while director Sophia Coppola was also in attendance.

The 23-year-old went with a classic look at the premiere of her new film and it all came together with black heels and a sweetheart neckline. She strutted her stuff with a grin as she posed for photos and spoke with reporters while joining the rest of the cast before the showing.

Though Watson’s shown signs of fashion-disaster in the past, the actress has decided on a more vintage and classic look in her most recent appearances that’s been received quite well. The focus Thursday was on The Bling Ring premiere, her third film since breaking through as “Hermione Granger” in the Harry Potter series.

Emma Watson had the spotlight on the red carpet as she shined in her two-tone Chanel dress, but she remained focused on her new film. The Bling Ring gave her the chance to expand as an actress outside of her Harry Potter persona, though she isn’t hiding from the hit movie series that led to her rise within the industry.

“I’m not trying to run away from it (Harry Potter),” she said during a press conference for The Bling Ring. “I’m very proud of the work that I did. I’m just really enjoying having the chance to transform into new roles.”

Watson will also be featured in Seth Rogen’s upcoming comedy, This Is The End, as well as the dramatic biblical film, Noah, which is set for release in 2014 with co-star Russell Crowe.

Lady Gaga may have to scoot aside a bit to make room in the spotlight for her little sister.

Natali Germanotta, the 20-year-old younger sibling of the wildly popular (and sometimes controversial) entertainer, is making a stylish entrance into public view.

The Daily Mail reports that Germanotta took part in a high-end fashion editorial for digital magazine Viralfashion.com. The Parsons fashion student can be seen sporting designs by the likes of designers Alaia, J Mendel, and Proenza Schouler in the 1950s Italian cinema inspired pictures.

Family resemblance aside, the shoot also has another tie to Lady Gaga. Yahoo! News writes that the photo spread takes place at Joanne Trattoria, an Italian restaurant whose proprietors happen to be the Germanotta family. Located on The Upper West Side and counting Natali among its employees, the dining spot has been plagued by unflattering reviews but has remained quite busy throughout the Fall season.

While big sis Lady Gaga graces news headlines on a nearly daily basis, Natali has managed to keep a fairly quiet profile from the public eye. That may be poised to changed.

“For Natali these shots were perhaps her most high profile modelling shots yet, the fashion student having previously appeared in Teen Vogue and Interview. We’re pretty sure that she won’t be staying under the radar for much longer though, not after these amazing pictures.”

Pasadena, CA – A high school modesty club was formed by a California teenager hoping to encourage fellow students to not wear sexually suggestive clothing. According to SouthPasadenaPatch, Saige Hatch’s Modesty Club has only 17 student members at South Pasadena High School, but she says that more than 1,000 people worldwide have joined via the club’s website. She wants people to know they don’t have to dress half naked to get attention or to be loved.

The Modesty Club is a social club that asks girls to pledge they will wear “shirts and dresses that cover my stomach, lower back, breasts and shoulders” and “not ask, persuade, or allow a boy to do anything with me that will jeopardize the code of chastity.”

The Modesty Club website declares that a “shift is coming, sneaking through the literal fabric of our culture. Our bright heroic women are being made the fool. A fool to think that to be loved they must be naked. To be noticed they must be sexualized. To be admired they must be objectified.”

Saige Hatch comes from a family that has become famous for its focus on propriety. Saige’s father’s famous cousin is Senator Orin Hatch (R-UT). Saige’s father co-authored the book “Raising a G-Rated Family in an X-Rated World” with wife Phelecia. So perhaps it’s with no surprise that Saige Hatch says her “mission is to empower men and women, boys and girls to the highest quality of self esteem.”

Saige’s brother, McKay Hatch, made national headlines in 2008 after founding a No Cussing Club. For this he received “death threats and bomb threats and the calls and all the chaos.” Like her brother, Saige has had to endure hateful persecution, like vandals egging and leaving graffiti on her father’s van. The website has also received a few nasty messages.

Kate Upton topless video was part of a sexy new fashion photo shoot. Upton covers her breasts with her hands as jets of water are squirted into her mouth, according to The Sun. In the video the Sports Illustrated cover model is filmed romping playfully with a male model.

During the new Kate Upton modeling gig, she is showcases her feminine figure while adorned in a vast array of fashions. Male viewers might not care as much about keeping up on the latest styles as most women, but the vast number of times Upton is shown in her underwear could keep the guys tuning into the fashion video as well.

Kate, 20, is depicted swimming in a pool and lounging on a swan inflatable in a tiny white bikini as a bunch of eager men strain for her attention. Upton then sets herself free by whipping off her bikini top as she giggles and covers her ample cleavage with her hands. A crocodile statue spraying water squirts water in the blonde model’s direction as she pokes her tongue out and gets even wetter.

The video was created for the German edition of Vogue by American photographer Bruce Weber. The Kate Upton topless video is entitled, “It Had To Be You.” The model is a Michigan native. She became a household name after being chosen as the Sports Illustrated “Rookie of the Year” in the magazine’s 2011 Swimsuit Issue. Upton is also an avid horseback rider and competed on the national level with her American Paint, according to Kate Upton Web.

Plus-size model Robyn Lawley chastised clothing designers who push girls to lose weight to fit into ultra skinny outfits. Calling Ralph Lauren’s latest model plus-sized feels a bit inaccurate to say the least. The young woman boasts a Marilyn Monroe style figure; she does not have rolls of fat hanging off of her frame, as her modeling designation would imply. Apparently, in the fashion world, any woman who cannot squeeze into a size 3, is considered too large to simply just be referred to as a model.

Lawley has received an abundance of praise for her curves and traditional womanly figure. The 23-year-old seems to have little patience for fashion designers who favor models with bodies that appear to many to resemble the physique of young teen boys. She is the first plus-sized model to grace the pages of Ralph Lauren’s catalog in a swimsuit.

Lawley had this to say about differing body styles in her industry:

“I want girls to have options, but unfortunately, if a plus-sized model comes along and she is so amazingly beautiful and even if agents all over the world want her, if she is a little bit big, then they will tell her to lose weight immediately. If they find a young girl who is beautiful, why can’ they accept her how she is? Why can’t she work at that size? Why do they have to be skinny?”

The Australian native has been featured on the European covers of Elle, Vogue, and Marie Claire. She is reportedly very excited to break into the American fashion world, according to statements she made during an interview with Radar Online. She also noted that there is a lack of diversity in the US modeling world and believes that it is important to share the plus-size message here.

Female tattoo artists such as Lina Stigsson and Angelique Houtkamp were very popular this past month as tattoo fans gathered in London to open the Eighth London International Tattoo Convention. According to Lina Stigsson, who was interviewed by guardian.co.uk, there has “been a huge increase in the number of female artists in the past five years. It’s a hugely progressive industry in terms of gender equality.”

The number of tattoo parlours in Britain has almost doubled in the past decade, and in that time both genders have been attracted to what can be a lucrative profession. Across the pond popular reality TV shows like Miami Ink and its LA, NY and London counterparts have showcased women as some of the main stars. Female tattoo artists like Kat Von D create art that is more attractive to women. Many women also feel more comfortable when it’s another woman doing the artistry.

A good example is Rihanna’s new tattoo of the goddess Isis which is directly underneath her breasts. Rihanna was spotted in a London tattoo parlor sporting her new tattoo. She tweeted an Instagram photo of her new tattoo, which featured the Egyptian goddess Isis kneeling down with its wings spread out underneath Rihanna’s breasts. The art is intended as a tribute to Rihanna’s grandmother, who died in July. While Rihanna might not be shy about showing the world her new tattoo in all its detail, or allowing a man to create it, many women may not.

Unfortunately, there’s a dark side to females being attracted to tattoos. A northeastern Indiana man is charged with child molesting and possession of child pornography. 29-year-old Jason Schwartz of Butler lured girls between the ages of 13 to 15 with the promise of “free tattoos”. In exchange he solicited sex, nude photos, and money.

While there is a dark side fortunately this type of behavior is few and far between. For everyone else we can just admire the art laid down on the beautiful tapestry we call women.

The latest issue of Vogue, which features model Stephanie Seymour being choked from behind, has reportedly upset a number of the magazine’s loyal readers, according to ABC News. The supermodel is being throttled by fellow model Marlon Teixeira, an image that has allegedly rankled the feathers of several domestic violence groups.

Sanctuary for Families, Safe Horizon, Equality Now, and the New York chapter of NOW are deeply offended by the imagery, and wrote a letter to Vogue publishers to express their anger over the offending cover.

“This truly disturbing image of a woman being choked sends a dangerous message to anyone who sees this magazine – that choking is a sign of passion rather than of violence,” the organizations wrote. “Choking is not a fashion statement, and certainly not something that should be used to sell magazines.”

Terry Richardson, the man responsible for bringing Kate Upton’s curves to the masses, is the photographer behind the cover. Although the image suggests lust over violence, apparently other folks have perceived the cover in a completely different context.

According to The Gloss, this isn’t the first time a popular magazine has portrayed a woman being chocked in its pages. Hailey Clauson, for example, was reportedly choked in a photograph that appeared in Pop. Given that Clauson was just a teenager, and the images are more than a little provocative, it didn’t take long before people proclaimed the photographs to be horribly inappropriate.

Jezebel (NSFW) reports that Clauson’s parents were none too pleased about the images that were produced during the shoot, prompting them to file a lawsuit against photographer Jason Lee Parry. “She is posed in a blatantly salacious manner with her legs spread, without a bra, revealing portions of her breasts,” the lawsuit states. “The image of Teen in a spread eagle position making her crotch area the focal point of the image may portray a child in a sexually suggestive manner and may be in violation of one or more federal and/or state laws.”

Jennifer Lawrence, star of box-office hit The Hunger Games, debuted her new look at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Louisville, Kentucky native attended the red carpet premiere of her latest feature, director David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, showing off her stylish new brunette hairstyle to everyone in attendance. For those who have been following Lawrence’s career since her stint on The Bill Engvall Show, the actress’ stunning transformation should come as a surprise.

Yahoo! Movies remarked that her ensemble is likely to draw just as much attention as her new look. In addition to the revamped hair, Lawrence sported a black and red Christian Dior Haute Couture gown, a piece she complemented with a pair of black Dior shoes.

Silver Linings Playbook — which stars Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, Anupam Kher, Chris Tucker, Julia Stiles, John Ortiz, Shea Whigham, and Dash Mihok — is the latest project from Three Kings filmmaker David O. Russell. Billed as a dramedy, the film explores the friendship that develops between a widow (Lawrence) and a former psychiatric patient (Cooper). The pair will also co-star together in Susanne Bier’s Depression-era drama Serena.

If reviews are to be believed, then Silver Linings Playbook is sure to be a critical darling when it arrives in theaters this November. Bryan Davis, a “Super Reviewer” at Rotten Tomatoes, said:

“Bradley Cooper can do no wrong. This film looks fun, fresh and vibrant. Add a little Robert DeNiro some Jennifer Lawrence and a dash of Julia Stiles, and you have the makings of what could be a good time at the movies.”

The folks at Deadline take their love of the film a bit further, stating that the picture could earn its cast a few Oscar nominations.

Lady Gaga wears an electric purple Marc Jacobs dress on the cover of a recent Vogue magazine, but it has been revealed that the photo has been extremely retouched.

On the cover she looks very thin, clean, and very composed, but a new video (screenshot above) from the shoot shows she wasn’t looking quite as good as the cover suggests.

The Sun reports that Lady Gaga seemed proud of the altered photo when she leaked it to fans earlier this month.

““I’m a COVER GIRL, and it’s FAB,” she wrote.

But not everyone is happy the “Born This Way” singer appears to have been digitally slimmed with a great deal of skin retouching and a near complete hair makeover and The Sun reports “Internet furore” over the contrasting images.

The New York Post reports that Lady Gaga’s “bright purple Marc Jacobs gown looks bulkier and unflattering. You’ll find that her hair looks nothing like the styled mane on the cover but instead a bleached, frizzy nest. Lastly, Gaga’s face is strong-featured and expressive in the picture, instead of the stoic nonchalance seen in the montage.”

Yahoo blog Shine describes Lady Gaga’s hair in the video as “not so much a halo, but instead what would happen if an angel stuck her finger in a light socket.”

The blog also asked an important question. With all the concerns over body image in today’s world, if you’re going to touch up a photo so dramatically, why use a photo at all when the same effect could be created as an illustration?

If Pippa Middleton woke up feeling good about herself this morning, I’m sure that quickly came to a crashing halt. Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t have very many nice things to say about the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister, and he’s not afraid to tell anyone with an ear to bend just how he feels. Needless to say, Lagerfeld isn’t mincing any words or sparing any feelings.

When asked about Kate Middleton, The Sun reports that the designer had nothing but positive things to say. “Kate Middleton has a nice silhouette and she is the right girl for that boy,” he explained. “I like that kind of woman, I like romantic beauties.”

However, when the subject turned to Pippa, Karl’s opinion darkened considerably. “On the other hand, her sister struggles,” Lagerfeld said. “I don’t like the sister’s face. She should only show her back.”

Reading this sort of thing has to be particularly painful for Pippa, who watches as the media endlessly drools all over her famous sister. These criticisms have to be exponentially more prickly considering Lagerfeld always seems to have something positive to say about Kate and her sense of fashion.

According to The Daily Mail, the designer raved about the Duchess during the opening of a beauty boutique last week. “She knows pretty well what to wear and what to do. She has a divine silhouette so she can wear anything,” Lagerfeld said of Kate. “She has a sense of what’s right for the moment because you can not dress like a mad woman in those situations.”

Unfortunately for Pippa Middleton, Karl Lagerfeld knows a thing or two about fashion. The German-born designer and photographer is currently the creative director at Chanel. Additionally, Lagerfeld owns his own label fashion house, as well as boutique handbag specialists Fendi.

Lady Gaga has splashed out $133,000 on an Alexander McQueen gown in a charity auction held by beer heiress Daphne Guinness.

Guinness held a wardrobe clear-out on Tuesday night, raising $746,000 for the Isabella Blow Foundation at Christie’s – more than four times the $150,000 estimate. The auction saw respective world record auction prices achieved for photographer Mario Testino, designer Christian Lacroix and – thanks to Gaga – McQueen.

The McQueen dress bought by the singer was an ivory silk tulle empire line gown, which surged past its original auction estimate of $23,000-$30,000. The foundation the star helped to support with her purchase was named after Isabella Blow, an acclaimed fashion stylist who took her own life in 2007, and aims to facilitate further research in the fields of depression and mental health.

Writing on Twitter the day following the auction, Gaga said:

“I am a passionate fashion collector and feel honored to support The Isabella Blow Foundation. Daphne Guinness is a pioneer for artistic women”

Guinness responded by sharing her happiness at Gaga’s involvement:

“I’m particularly moved by Lady Gaga’s support for the Foundation. I like her very much, and it’s lovely to see the nascent beginnings of something that may help other people.”

Gaga’s purchase broke the previous world record price for a Alexander McQueen design by just a few thousand dollars. In November 2011, a black velvet and bugle beaded evening gown (from McQueen’s autumn/winter 2007 ‘In memory of Elizabeth Howe, Salem 1692′ collection) fetched $122,000.

Buoyed by high performance of its retail, wholesale and licensing segments, Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. beat Wall Street expectations for fourth quarter earnings, the company announced Tuesday.

Total revenue rose 58 percent in the quarter, reaching $380 million, as revenue from stores open for at least a year rose by 36 percent, Marketwatch reported.

Sales figures from established stores are seen as a gauge of the fiscal health of the retailer as they exclude those that opened or closed within the last year. Michael Kors opened 71 stores last year, bringing its total to 237, Marketwatch reported.

The company’s earnings more than tripled earnings in its fiscal fourth quarter, with $43.6 million or 22 cents per share in the three months through March 31. The earnings figures for the same quarter last year were $13.6 million and 10 cents per share, respectively.

The increases came as the result of increasing demand for the company’s luxury clothing and accessories, CBS News reported. Michael Kors sells its products at its own stores and through retailers, and though it has luxury items up to $7,000, the bulk of sales were more affordable items like $600 purses.

The news came as a relief to many investors, especially in the luxury retail sales realm, CBS News reported. A warning last month from Tiffany & Co. has raised fears that Americans were spending less on purchases.

The sales increases for Michael Kors reflected, “strong demand for the Michael Kors luxury brand, our exciting assortment of fashion merchandise and our exceptional jet-set in-store experience,” the company’s CEO John Idol was quoted in Fox Business News.

Shares of the company’s stock, which went public in December, rose 12.34 percent to $42.89 ahead of the opening bell on Tuesday, Fox Business News reported. For the year the company’s stock is up 40 percent.

The company expects revenue of between $1.7 billion and $1.8 billion for the current year, along with earnings of between $1.08 and $1.12. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters were not quite as optimistic, predicting earnings of 98 cents and $1.69 billion in revenue.

It’s official: Karl Lagerfeld’s cat might well be the most spoiled pet in celeb world. The pampered puss was discussed by Lagerfeld in his recent interview with Women’s Wear Daily, and let’s just say he did a bang-up job of reinforcing the stereotype that fashionistas are nuts.

The designer was chatting to WWD about the tour of his traveling exhibition with Carine Roitfeld, “The Little Black Jacket,” yet talk soon drifted onto Lagerfeld’s home life, and the female who shared his abode: his nine-month-old Siamese cat, Choupette. Reflecting on his beloved pet, Lagerfeld revealed:

“She is like a kept woman. She has a strong personality. She has lunch and dinner with me on the table, with her own food. She doesn’t touch my food. She doesn’t want to eat on the floor. She sleeps under a pillow and she even knows how to use an iPad. She has two personal maids, for both night and day. She is beyond spoiled.”

Yeah bitches, Karl Lagerfeld’s cat has two personal maids. But it gets better, because Choupette has a diary. And Choupette’s inability to write means there’s somebody out there who is paid cash money to write the diary of Karl Lagerfeld’s cat. What a life, my friends, what a life. And we haven’t even got on to the subject of Choupette’s 20 iPads, have we? Lagerfeld did us the favor of tweeting a pic of Choupette playing on one of her personal tablets.

As for how he dresses his moggy, it seems Choupette won’t ever be one of those cats posed in sunglasses for a lolcats site:

“I don’t like animals in human clothes. I think that’s very circuslike.”

Yeah, that’s just weird. And Karl doesn’t do weird, guys.

Madonna has a new Material Girl, it would seem. The Queen of Pop has hired Georgia May Jagger, daughter of Rolling Stones frontman Mick, as the new face of her and 15-year-old daughter Lourdes’ clothing line, Material Girl.

Jagger is not the first privileged daughter of a rock legend to front the Material Girl brand – Kelly Osborne has also modeled for the label, which is sold at Macy’s and Canada’s The Bay. Taylor Momsen is another celebrity head who has been involved.

Nor is this Jagger’s first foray into modeling – in 2009, a 17-year-old Georgia posed topless for Hudson Jeans, prompting much tut-tutting on fashion blogs. She’s also the star of a range of TV commercials for Rimmel Cosmetics.

With Jagger now in place as the face of Material Girl, the brand will be moving into stores in Europe and Australia from the summer of 2012. The freshly hired 20-year-old gushed in a statement:

“To be handpicked by Madonna and Lola as the new face of Material Girl is truly amazing. I’ve always admired Madonna’s style and I’m thrilled to be working with them.”

Yeah, whatever. Anyway, the Material Girl line has always been fronted by a celeb, though Jagger is definitely more media-shy than Osborne or Momsen. Georgia, who was apparently picked by Madonna and her 15-year-old daughter Lourdes, will star in advertisements for their newest junior’s line.

Brad Pitt is officially the new face of Chanel Perfume No. 5.

Taking to Twitter yesterday, the French house of high fashion announced that the 47-year old A-list celebrity will be the (not too shabby looking) face of the new advertising campaign set to be released at some point later this year.

According to E! News, Pitt is set to begin shooting his first ad for the perfume starting in London sometime this week.

This will be a first for the iconic brand as a man has never been chosen to represent the unmistakable scent that is Chanel Perfume No. 5.

Remaining one of the world’s top-selling fragrances, Chanel has had the likes of Australian actress Nicole Kidman to represent the the perfume, as well as French actresses Catherine Deneuve and Audrey Tautou.

The most notable face of the fragrance however would be that of the actual designer of the brand, Coco Chanel. The founding designer beautifully graced the ads for the company’s oldest fragrance in 1937 when the product tag read, “A woman must smell like a woman, and not a rose.”

Whether or not that will be the tag line for Pitt’s new venture is yet to be seen.

Early reports indicate that the father of six will be bringing home a handsome paycheck of over seven figures for serving as the face of this classic fashion brand.

New York’s Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala was the hot spot of choice tonight for any A-lister. The world’s of Hollywood, fashion, film and art collided at this year’s Met Ball (as it’s affectionately known) – and it was quite the throwdown.

Arriving at her third Met Gala, amid a couture red carpet crush and screaming press, Kristen Stewart rocked a fiercely, individual Balenciaga leather mid-length dress with upper black and silver asymmetric detail, and red, black and blue skirt panels. It was a bold, modern choice for the actress, complemented by punky white and black pumps – also by Balenciaga.

Accompanied by Balenciaga head designer Nicolas Ghesquiere, Kristen is also the newest ‘face’ of the fashion house’s fragrance lines. Some Kristen Stewart fans had travelled from all over the world to get a glimpse of her, and online reactions suggest most of them were delighted by the actress’s ensemble.

To detractors, it’s probably worth saying: if the point about fashion is to wear the clothes and not let them wear ‘you’ – then tonight, Kristen Stewart rocked it. Hard.

This year, the Met Gala (or Ball, as its affectionately known) upped its game. For the first time ever, a live stream (funded by Amazon and produced by Vogue, the hosts), made it possible for millions around the world to see the red carpet arrivals.

Widely considered the Oscar’s of the fashion calendar and hosted by Vogue’s William Norwich and model/face of Lancome, Elettra Wiederman, along with the Gala’s co-chairs – Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, Carey Mulligan and Miuccia Prada – an eye- watering guest list ensured the world’s press thronged the famous museum steps.

From the look of scenes from the livestream, New York had gone totally Met mad. Even Prada’s Fifth Avenue store windows were dedicated to the Met exhibit. Not suprising, since this year’s event honored Schiaparelli and Prada in an evening called “Impossible Conversations.” A phrase that could have been coined for the dinner menu itself.

Served at the high octane event a dinner of baby lobsters and veal Milanese with arugula, fennel and apricot salad. For desserts, bespoke Schiap and Prada violet tarts, petit fours with red lips. With that kind of layout, a to-die-for guest list and music by Bruno Mars, it’s not hard to see why this year’s fashion-fest broke records, raising a stonking $11 million for the Costume Institute.

Alessandra Ambrosio has revealed that her unborn child will be a boy. The Victoria’s Secret model, who announced her pregnancy in late-December 2011, told E! News:

“I am having a boy! I am so excited! Because I already have a daughter I know what to expect with a girl, so having a boy means it’s going to be surprising all over again. My fiancé is so excited. Now he has company! He won’t be in a house full of girls anymore!”

That means Ambrosio’s daughter, Anja, will soon have a little brother to play with. The model added:

“Before I found out the gender, I had lots of girls names picked out, but no boys names. That’s the hardest part! I have five good names for a girl and really none for a boy. I want something that works well in both Portuguese and English. It can’t be too American or my grandmother won’t be able to pronounce it!”

The little fellow will be along soon, as well – Ambrosio is apparently five weeks away from giving birth. Fortunately, 3-year-old Anja is full of name suggestions:

“Anja is telling everyone how happy she is. I love having a girl, she’s super fun. She’s really excited and has also come up with a name she would like him to be called. I told her that her name for him can be his nickname.”

Preparations in the family home are reportedly well underway. The 30-year-old told E! she’d been spending the past few weeks decorating her new son’s nursery (to be finished in a tasteful combination of aqua and khaki), and said that yoga was making her pregnancy far easier.

Furthermore, the Ambrosio brood could yet get bigger, with Ambrosio happy to have more children after her son arrives. She said:

“I used to say that I wanted five kids, but we’ll see how it goes.”

Their day-glo leggings may be as ugly as sin and their founder a total creepster, but retailer American Apparel got a boost in trading yesterday after George Soros-backed firm Crystal Financial agreed to extend a new credit line of $80 million to the struggling hipster retailer.

American Apparel was a force to be reckoned with in the early-to-mid naughties, shilling all manner of hoodies, tutus, knee socks and other ephemera- labeled as Made in America- to edgy urban populations at a breakneck pace. But the end of the decade saw some financial strife for the once fast-growing firm, and some accounting troubles coupled with a worker eligibility issue that reduced the company’s efficiency caused significant revenue drops.

By late 2010, American Apparel risked defaulting on a credit line as it struggled to power through the many setbacks the retailer faced. Although the deal rumored with the George Soros-backed firm has yet to be confirmed to the public, according to the New York Post, shares surged on news of the credit extension for American Apparel. The paper says:

The credit agreement from Soros-backed Crystal Financial, which could be worth as much as $80 million, will immediately replace a $75 million credit line from Bank of America that matures in July, sources said… The deal could be announced as soon as this week, and comes as American Apparel has seen recent sales momentum. Since December, the retailer has reported comparable-sales gains of 11 percent each month.

The George Soros-backed Crystal Financial has not commented on the deal, but news of a credit extensions makes bankruptcy- which had been reported as a possibility- less likely for American Apparel.

Lindsay Lohan cut a curious figure on Monday, as she touched down at New York’s JFK airport wearing a … poodle coat?

Okay, so it’s probably not actual poodle, but there’s a definite resemblance, no? Either way, the fuzzy white coat looked genuinely cozy with its curly fur collar trims and voluminous hide of fur covering the entire bottom half. And also a little odd. Yes, odd.

The actress combined the head-turning coat with a black sweater dress, black knee-length boots and sheer tights. She probably needed it as temperatures at JFK dropped to a chilly 40°F (5°C).

Victoria’s Secret supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio has made it official, announcing that she is expecting her second child with fiance Jamie Mazur. Ambrosio posted a picture of her and her baby bump on her Facebook wall.

The 30 year old bombshell had just walked in the biggest lingerie fashion show of the year.

‘Family is the most important thing for me and I’m thrilled to be adding to the family,’ she said in a written statement to Us weekly. “I’m fortunate to have a loving and supportive family. It’s a blessing that it will soon be growing.’

Ambrosio and her fiance already have a three-year-old daughter Anja Louise.

Ambrosiol told Brazilian magazine Istoe Gente that she is entering her fourth month of being pregnant.

If you do the math, it means that Ambrosio was already pregnant when she put on Angel Wings and flew down the runway at the Victoria’s Secret Super Show in November. For the show Alessandra walked in lingerie to not only display three different looks on the runway, but her incredibly toned figure.

The highlight of the show was when Ambrosio put on a set of 30-pound Passion Play Fan Wings. The prop took seven months to put together and were encrusted with 105,000 Swarovski crystals as well as larger and light and dark blue stones.

She told the same Brazilian Magazine that she told her husband the good news back in September.

Ambrosio is orginally from Brazil. The bombshell supermodel has been one of Victoria’s Secret’s top models for a while now, and will continue to be after she gives birth.

Lauren Conrad may be an up and coming fashion designer but that hasn’t stopped her from wearing the same dress to various holiday parties.

Speaking to FabSugar Conrad reveals that cocktail dress recycling is a specialty of hers since she attends many holiday parties.

Condrad says of wearing dresses more than one time:

“During holiday parties I end up recycling a lot of my cocktail dresses, and just wearing a layering piece, like a blazer and tights, with it.”

One advantage Conrad has over the rest of us? She designs the Paper Crown dresses, skirts and tops that she wears during the holiday which means finding the right layers is just a concept away.

“When I was designing, I was really keeping in mind the types of things you do during these months,” she explains. “You’re going to a lot of holiday parties, and you want to look festive and still put together. So we had a lot of fun with that.”

To complement her recycled look Lauren Conrad says adding a nice bow or fun prints to a plain piece can make all the difference.

Ashley Greene has been unveiled as the new face (and legs and butt) of DKNY and DKNY Jeans. The 24-year-old actress and model, best known for playing Alice Cullen in the Twilight films, will first appear in the brands’ spring 2012 campaigns.

And get this, in what can only be descibed as a freakish coincidence, Green has always loved the DKNY brand. Woah, spooky stuff right here:

“I’ve always loved Donna Karan’s creations. To be a part of the brands’ message is incredibly exciting because it feels like such an organic fit. It’s easy to talk about how these clothes work for my lifestyle, whether I’m in New York, L.A. or traveling for work.”

Maybe my cynicism is misplaced, however. People reports how Greene has been spied in Donna Karan’s clothes a lot recently at Twilight premieres and charitable events. A few weeks back, she was snapped in this custom DK creation at the May Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala:

Men need to step up their style, according to a national survey conducted by GQ and Van Heusen to get the pulse of what women think about American men’s style today.

When it comes to dressing to impress, the survey found that men’s number one priority was a job interview and their second was dressing for a big meeting. Deciding what to wear on a first date came in third. Men would not even give importance to dressing just for meeting their girlfriend’s parents.

Most men (93%) are not even aware when it’s time for them to update their styles. Women even agreed (94%) that men need an upgrade in wardrobe.

Here are some more findings:

Men need to focus on choosing clothes that fit nicely;

Women said that “baggy pants” and “baggy shirts” are two of the biggest style mistakes that a guy can make;

Men feel they could use the most help in selecting business casual clothes; and

Women said that men could use the most help with selecting casual clothes.

The survey was held as part of the launch of the “Institute of Style,” a site intended to help American men get their style back by providing direction on how to dress appropriately.

The way the research went, it seems that men have lost their swagger when it comes to dressing. Men, it’s time to step up our game and reclaim the swag.

‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ starlet Kylie Jenner made her very first runway appearance earlier this week, helping to kick off New York Fashion Week on Monday.

Sporting a dress from Avril Lavigne’s Abbey Dawn line with Louboutin heels, Jenner reportedly received advice from big sister Kim Kardashian. By the end of the show, Lavigne was singing her praises: “She did a really good job. I love her edge!” The fact that Lavigne’s current squeeze is Jenner’s older brother Brody is probably just a coincidence.

The 14-year-old Jenner strutted across the runway sporting her newly highlighted hair, which she claims has become something of an obsession. Fresh from coming off the catwalk, she told People magazine: “I did ‘Rihanna red’ over Spring Break, but I was just like, ‘This isn’t me!’” Indeed.

Jenner had family in the audience for her gig, and was grateful for the extra support: “I loved having my family there,” she squealed. “They made me so much more comfortable!” Brother Brody was proud of his little sister, later tweeting, “She looked beautiful and was such a natural. Proud to be her brother.”

Actress Kate Winslet stepped out this weekend at the Venice Film Festival while sporting a short suit, a design that is expected to be huge this Fall.

Winslet was at the event to promote her much hyped film Carnage and she looked comfortable in the short suit which included a suit jacket, dress shorts and a semi-casual shirt.

Talbots, Express, Bloomingdale’s and various other stores across the United States are gearing up for the new fashion season with short suits of their own, while some designers have taken the idea and paired it with speakers, stocking and other accessories to give a more modern feel.

As Linsey Ferrier at The Stir points out, I still feel that Winslet would have looked much cuter in a skirt.

It looks like Dior may have a new designer to fill John Galliano’s shoes at the fashion house following Galliano’s departure in flames earlier this year.

Galliano was booted from his position at Dior in March after a series of bizarre public meltdowns during which the designer was filmed engaging in very offensive diatribes, railing at fellow eventgoers at a venue in Paris. Not only did Galliano’s anti-Semitic slurs cost him his job and a tremendous amount of celebrity goodwill, but the fallen fashion idol was also tried in Paris- where such hate speech is an offense that carries jail time. (Lawyers for Galliano claimed a combination of alcohol and Valium were to blame for the fashion mogul’s hateful rant.)

Now the fashion house that bears Christian Dior’s name is looking at a more clean-cut designer to take over the reigns of the brand. Marc Jacobs- whose style is a bit more understated- is reportedly the top choice for the role. Of his work, Jacobs once commented:

“…what I prefer is that even if someone feels hedonistic, they don’t look it. Curiosity about sex is much more interesting to me than domination. … My clothes are not hot. Never. Never.”

According to the New York Post, lawyers for Jacobs are currently in Paris trying to hammer out a deal with Dior to bring Jacobs on for Galliano’s old job. Also in the running, the paper claims, are Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquière, Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton, Haider Ackermann and Hedi Slimane. Jacobs is currently in Manhattan, where he is planning his collection for Spring 2012.

Wearing the comfortable wardrobe staple isn’t just a fashion crime- according to physiotherapist Sammy Margo, who discussed their impact on muscles to several media outlets, their ease of wear comes with a price:

‘Leggings feel good and look great and I am as addicted to them as anyone, but there is a downside.

‘They hold in and support the quadriceps (thigh muscles), buttocks and core muscles in your tummy, and do the job the muscles are supposed to do.

‘As a result, the muscles are allowed to relax and switch off, so when we reveal our bodies for the first time as summer approaches, they are not as svelte or firm as they otherwise would be.’

Margo would also like you to know that not only does wearing leggings impact muscles, but they also enable you not to feel horrible enough about yourself all the time to maintain a proper level of self flagellation. She sniffs:

‘Leggings hide the bits of our bodies we don’t like, such as the cellulite on our legs or our “muffin top”, so we are able to ignore the problem and we are less motivated to exercise these parts.’

Margo offers this totally reasonable advice for women who have completely lost their figures due to the unabashed wearing of leggings:

‘Suck your stomach in as far as it will go then breathe out about halfway. Tie a piece of string around your stomach at that point and keep it there all day.’

Fashion icon Bijan Pakzad was hospitalized this weekend after suffering a stroke at his Beverly Hills home.

The designer was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Thursday evening and the announcement of his stroke was posted on son Nicolas’ Facebook page with the simple message that his father had suffered “a stroke.”

The 67-year-old fashion and perfume businessman is said to be in “critical condition”

While you may not recognize Bijan’s name, he is responsible for dressing some of the world’s top Hollywood stars, athletes, business people and world leaders.

London born fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead of an apparent suicide, a source at the designer’s office has confirmed.

McQueen rose to fame in the late 90s, and was controversially succeeded John Galliano as head designer of Givenchy in 1996. McQueen remained at Givenchy until 2001, and later joined forces with Gucci. McQueen’s close friend Isabella Blow also committed suicide in 2007, and the designer is said to have been “distraught” over her death.

McQueen was so distraught by Isabella’s death that he dedicated his spring summer 2008 show at Paris fashion week to his late friend.

The invites to the show were poster-size illustrations Richard Gray. It depicts a triumphant Blow, in a McQueen dress and a Philip Treacy headdress, in a horse-drawn carriage ascending to heaven.

McQueen’s death comes just days before the start of London Fashion Week, and just a few weeks ahead of the shows in Paris. McQueen’s newest collection was set to be unveiled in Paris on March 9th.

Update: TMZ is reporting McQueen was found hanged in his home and that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

The NYT featured a nifty little startup for web-savvy thin girls who want to wear the latest looks without investing in them.

The site has some great, built-in safeguards against disappointment in cultivating the tricky relationship between a girl and her dress. Execution, says the Times, is “crucial.” On-call stylists, 24 hour exchange turnarounds, and an extra size included on the house may knock out initial qualms about the service.

Even the designers whose pieces feature in the collection (including Diane Von Furstenberg, Hervé Léger, Lela Rose and Proenza Schouler) dig the idea:

“In challenging economic times, it’s important for brands to reach a larger audience and age demographic that you wouldn’t normally because of the price,” she said. “This is a great way to do it without jeopardizing the brand.”

Rental pieces range from $50-200 for a four night rental and include dry cleaning.

Women’s dresses get made out of all kinds of materials but this version of women’s wear is definitely not your average material … errr … latex. However the idea of going out to dinner or the opera along side a woman wearing a dress made from condoms would definitely make one think twice I think. Not to mention having to survive through the parade of jokes you would have to endure.

It would seem though that there just might be a market for them given the wide range of styles being modeled I’m just not sure would would have the courage to order one let alone be seen with a woman wearing one.

This is called KP Equestrian. Please don’t actually wear it riding horses or doing anything athletic, for that matter, because it will backfire. I believe those are French terry shorts, like skanked-out Juicy Couture, and all that’s new about the polo shirt is a special embroidered crest. Snore!

I don’t think that Katie Price even did a test-drive on this one, because breast revamp post-op policies certainly don’t allow you to bounce around on horsies.

Can we call this a blow to legitimate fashion designers everywhere? Because it makes me really, really sad.
