When Charlie Sheen filed a $100 million lawsuit against Warner Bros and CBS for firing him from the hit TV show Two and a Half Men we thought he was just a crazy and jilted former employee and now it turns out he had a case.

According to the Los Angeles Times Warner Bros. has agreed to a $25 million settlement with Sheen, a payment that will make the lawsuit disappear once and for all.

Sheen filed the lawsuit after he went on a drug and alcohol fueled binge in the middle of shooting last season. Sheen’s erratic behavior eventually led to his dismissal from the show.

While Sheen has called former co-star Jon Cryer a “troll” while publicly calling out show creator Chuck Lorre with names that have included “narcissist. coward. loser and spineless rat” he wished the entire crew “Nothing but the best for the upcoming season” while appearing on Sunday night at the Emmy Awards.

Sheen told Matt Lauer last week during a Today Show interview that he’s feeling “a lot more calm” now thanks to his new found sobriety.

Do you think Charlie Sheen deserved to receive a $25 million settlement from Warner Bros even though his firing was directly related to his own substance abuse and erratic behavior.

It’s been an amazing week for actress Melissa McCarthy first she managed to walk away with an Emmy award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role on the show Mike & Molly and now we’ve learned that she has sold a new sitcom to CBS.

According to TV.com, McCarthy will write and produce the new show which follows a woman in her 40s who begins going through a “spectacular midlife crisis.”

At this time very few other details are known about the series.

If you missed the Emmy’s last night the women nominated for the award all dashed onto the stage as their names were called and the category quickly turned into a “pageant” of sorts with McCarthy eventually sporting a tiara and the Emmy prize.

“Holy smokes. Wow, it’s my first and best pageant ever,” Melissa said after a standing ovation for her win, “I’m from Plainfield, Ill., and I’m standing here and it’s kind of amazing.”

Do you believe that Melissa McCarthy deserved to win the Best Actress Emmy for a comedy series and will you be tuning in to check out her new show if it makes it through the pilot stage and begins airing on CBS?

Alec Baldwin was scheduled to appear at the 63rd Emmy Awards last night, but the 30 Rock star never showed. It was initially reported that Baldwin decided to skip the Emmys after a joke about Rupert Murdoch was cut from one of his sketches, but it turns out, Baldwin just wanted to attend Tony Bennett’s birthday party.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Baldwin had agreed to host Bennett’s birthday gala long before the Emmy Awards were scheduled. Baldwin told reporters last night at the party:

“I didn’t skip the Emmys because of that (Murdoch joke)… I skipped the Emmys because of this (Bennett’s Birthday)… because I wanted to be here.”

But that doesn’t mean that Baldwin wasn’t upset about the pulled Murdoch joke.

Baldwin tweeted last night:

“I did a short Emmy pretape a few days ago. Now they tell me NewsCorp may cut the funniest line.”

And then:

“Fox did kill my NewsCorp hacking joke. Which sucks bc I think it would have made them look better. A little.”

Fox said that the hacking scandal joke wasn’t cut by Murdoch himself or by NewsCorp, which owns Fox. The network said that it cut the joke because it made fun of a serious allegations surrounding the situation.

Do you think Alec Baldwin is telling the truth? Did he really miss the Emmy Awards to attend Tony Bennett’s birthday party? Or is he just trying to avoid a little scandal with the Fox Network?

Earlier this year, British comic Ricky Gervais was supposedly in hot water for his roasting of celebrities at January’s Golden Globes. Gervais spent the Globes ceremony ripping into celebrities with his trademark snarky remarks, even slipping in a gay joke about Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

The comedian was absent from last night’s Emmy Awards, though did deliver a pre-recorded message joking that he was “no longer allowed on American soil” during award ceremonies. What followed was a speech with diplomatically timed edits over any potentially contentious remarks.

“I’ve won a few Emmys myself. I’ve lost a few too,” grinned Gervais, “I was up for five last year and I lost them all to other shows that in my opinion were absolute [edit] ‘Schindler’s List’ but then went on to do TV with ‘Band of Brothers’ and ‘The Pacific’ for HBO, which in my opinion is the greatest channel in the world [edit] apart from [edit] Fox [edit] that is, [edit] obviously.”

He then ended with a variation on his “Thanks to God, for making me an atheist” closing line from the Globes.

Well, I quite liked it. Here’s the speech in full (and below that, Gervais’s Golden Globes intro for those who somehow missed it):

30 Rock star Alec Baldwin won’t be at the Emmy Awards tonight after he walked out on the show after a joke about News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch was cut from a segment he had recorded to open the broadcast.

Following a Deadline.com confirmation of his departure Baldwin tweeted:

“I did a short Emmy pretape a few days ago. Now they tell me NewsCorp may cut the funniest line.”

The Emmy awards air on the News Corp. owned Fox TV network and apparently they were not comfortable attacking their own boss, especially in regards to the phone-hacking scandal which has given News Corp. more negative publicity than they have seen in years.

Entertainment Weekly spoke with Fox representatives who said cutting the joke came at the Fox level and not from top brass at News Corp.

Throwing some spin of their own into the mix, Fox officials say they cut the joke because it makes fun of a situation that carries with it serious allegations.

The clip has now been completely scrapped and Leonard Nimoy stepped in for a 100% re-shoot which will open the show.

Baldwin tweeted of the joke being cut:

“Fox did kill my NewsCorp hacking joke. Which sucks bc I think it would have made them look better. A little.”

I personally don’t agree with the decision by Fox officials, after all it’s not as if the scandal is going to disappear all together if one more joke is told about Rupert Murdoch and his employees boneheaded decisions.

Remember when Fox use to put anything on the TV just to be rebellious and different, I yearn for the Married with Children days when Fox was actually cutting edge and daring.

Do you think Fox should have allowed the joke to remain?

The Emmy Awards could end up featuring more than awards and long acceptance speeches, there could be a few awkward situations with rumors circulating that Charlie Sheen will be in attendance.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Sheen could run into former Two and a Half Men co-star Jon Cryer who is nominated for a Best Supporting Actor trophy and who Sheen called a “troll” after Cryer did not publicly support him during his now infamous meltdown.

Also expected to be in attendance is Ashton Kutcher, the man who took Sheen’s job when Warner Bros. and CBS fired the former star.

There’s a chance the show could go off without a Charlie Sheen meltdown, the actor has recently been making all of the standard rounds to late night talk shows and he appears to be clear headed or in the least well-medicated.

If Sheen doesn’t end up presenting a top prize at the Emmy’s fans of his career can still catch him the following night when the Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen airs. Sheen did not submit his name for an award of his own, making him ineligible to be nominated.

While I’m a fan of watching Charlie Sheen completely lose his mind for the camera’s, I for one hope he will tone down his attitude for tonight’s award show and allow the Emmy’s to be the high brow event they aim to be.

The Emmy Awards are set to air live on Fox TV tonight from the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles.

The Ike Awards… If it wasn’t for Dwight Eisenhower, the Emmy Awards could have been called the Ike Awards.

In 1946 when Syd Cassyd founded the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, he wanted to name its award the Ike. Cassyd wanted the award to represent the gizmo that made TV possible, which in the early days of television, was the iconoscope tube. Unfortunately for Cassyd, Dwight Eisenhower, (nickname Ike) was a popular war hero and a few years away from being president, and he feared that the Ike Awards would make people think about politics and not television.

So Cassyd had to find a new name for its award.

1946 was also the year that the image orthicon tube would revolutionize television. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the image orthicon tube was originally designed to guide missiles. The orthicon tube would prove to be unreliable for missile guidance, but it worked perfectly for television. So with a new gizmo as a namesake, Cassyd decided on the Immy Awards. And when the statue was designed as a female, Immy was simply adapted to Emmy.

The Emmy statue also has an interesting history. According to Emmy.com, Academy members rejected 47 proposals before settling on a design by Louis McManus. The academy wanted a statue that represented both the creativity of actors and directors, but also to pay homage to the scientific advances that made television possible.

Emmy.com explains:

“The wings represent the muse of art; the atom the electron of science.”

Each Primetime Emmy statuette weighs six pounds, twelve-and-a-half ounces, and is made of copper, nickel, silver and gold. Close to 400 Emmys are produced each year by the R.S. Owens company in Chicago.

The 63rd Emmy Awards are tomorrow night. Will you be watching?

Gleeks were thrilled when they heard the news that Jane Lynch / Sue Sylvester would be hosting the 2011 Emmy Awards, and it looks like things are going to get even better for teen musical fanatics. Lynch expects the Glee cast to be on hand when the Emmys air this September.

Lynch said:

“I’ve pitched a couple of ideas for the Glee cast. I bet there will be an appearance. We’ve kind of been hunkering down with what the show is going to look like and what will be in it, but we will be reaching out (to the Glee cast) very, very soon.”

Lynch, who won the Emmy last year for her role as the snarky track suit wearing cheerleader coach, was nominated again for her role in Glee this year. Lynch said that she’s thankful for the hosting gig because it will keep her mind off of her nomination.

“My nerves will mostly be focused toward doing the show. It’s almost a relief not to have to think about having been nominated.”

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Lynch is just the third woman to host the Emmy Awards. Angela Lansbury hosted the show in 1993 and Ellen DeGeneres has hosted the show twice, 0nce in 2001 and again in 2005.

As for the new season of Glee, Lynch said that the story line will focus on the intimate relationships of the main cast members as they prepare for graduation. Glee creator Ryan Murphy said earlier this year that he would be true to the high school experience, and as the cast got older, they would graduate off the show.

Lynch said:

“We had a great season last year, but we kind of did go all over the place with guest stars. We had a lot of fun with that, [but ]we’re honing in on stories about these kids, especially in light of the fact several of them will be graduating at the end of the year.”

The 2011 Emmy Awards will air on September 18th on Fox. Jane Lynch is hilarious as Sue Sylvester, but will she be a funny Emmy host?

Glee actress Jane Lynch is confident that Glee fans will survive when show favorites Chris Colfer, Lea Michele and Cory Monteith graduate from high school and leave the show after season 3 ends.

Lynch said in a recent interview that she fully trusts Ryan Murphy’s judgment and that the show will be as strong as ever.

“[Ryan] rarely makes bad calls,” Jane told Billy Bush during a phone interview on Thursday’s Access Hollywood Live . “But I think it’s kind of cool that they will graduate.

Lynch went on to add:

“And I also think it’s kind of cool that the teachers get to stay!”

Jane has watched her career blossom on the show, winning Golden Globe and Emmy Awards in 2010 for her supporting actress role as Cheerios head coach and constant pain in the butt Sue Sylvester.

FOX wants Emmy Winner and Glee star Jane Lynch to host this years Emmy Awards and there’s a chance that the role may just be hers.

The network will air this years awards show and FOX executives are hoping that she can bring the type of magic to the show that both Neil Patrick Harris and Jimmy Fallon have delivered during the past two shows.

The last time the show aired on FOX it was Ryan Seacrest who hosted the show which was then turned over to ABC and saw better performances from the men mentioned above.

Last year Lynch won an Emmy for her supporting role on Glee and given her commanding presence she would make the perfect option as the first solo female to host the show since ELlen DeGeneres did so in 2005.

Survivor creator Mark Burnett is producing the telecast this year with FOX picking up the option for eight-years of Emmy Awards broadcasting.

Would you tune in to watch Jane Lynch host the Emmy’s? I sure would.

Certain women in politics and “sexism” claims have nothing to do with the Emmys: in fact, it looks like the script (peppered with ad libs) was written in a bubble. Last night at the Primetime Emmys, Brooke Shields took to the podium with Craig Ferguson to present the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, which crumbled into tired sexual harassment jokes.

Their scripted dialogue involved Ferguson talking about how he used to fantasize about Shields as a teenager, but now he respects her for her acting work.

Then Shields asks, “Is that your hand on my ass?” and Ferguson responds, “Yes, and it’s respecting you” with a leering grin.

If the Emmys never changed, this type of “humor” could be passable. But the fact that the hosts sucked more than ever means that they need new content. I vote that “jokes” like this are the first to go. Ew, and WTF.

Lauren Conrad is a lucky gal for having such an amazing agent. What she doesn’t have in talent, she makes up for in gumption: thanks to that and some awesome connections, we’re going to be seeing her at the Emmy Awards in September. Not only will Lauren get to be a presenter at the show, but she’s in charge of outfitting some of the models who hand out awards.

I just hope she comes up with something better than this. Does anyone have a master stylist to recommend to her? Heck, even friend and actual worker-bee Whitney Port could give her a hand.
