The Cavalli Club at the Fairmont Hotel in Dubai was graced this week with the presence of an unnamed person who dropped $105,000 on a single night out at the bar.

So what exactly does a $105,000 bar tab buy one hopefully very drunk customer? According to the clubs manager you’ll receive many goodies including a $35,000 six-liter bottle of Cristal Champaign alongside 13 bottles of Roedere Cristal for $23,000. To wash that all down the buyer received 24 Diet Cokes, 10 Red Bulls and a $32 slice of birthday cake. The bar tab owner also ordered a $1,300 bottle of Cavalli vodka

To prove the tab the bar posted a picture of the bill which was displayed in the dirham currency of the United Arab Emirates.

As Gulfnews.com points out that the equivalent of buying two Porsche Cayennes.

News of the bar tab quickly swept across Twitter after the bar confirmed it was real. The crazy part may be the fact that the Cavalli Club regularly receives bar tabs upwards of $100,000.

Whether or not it’s a sign that things are picking up in Dubai once again is not known, however it does show that the super rich are not being hurt by a down economy in the least.

Do you think it’s insane to spend $105,000 on a bar tab regardless of your ability to pay it? I personally would rather have a nice 21-year-aged bottle of Glen Livet which is considerably cheaper at $200-$300 per bottle. To each his own I suppose.

In the meantime I would really like to know who belongs to the bar tab.

In a surprise move the Dubai government owned airline carrier Emirates has agree to purchase 50 Boeing 777s from the US-based aircraft maker, a deal worth a list price of $18 billion. It’s expected that the company would likely have received a discount for their large order however in dollar terms it’s still sure to be the biggest single order ever placed with Boeing.

The deal comes at a surprising time for Boeing and Emirates, because of demand Boeing is currently backordered and those delays include planes already owed to Emirates along with their competitors the Abu Dhabi-based Etihad and Qatar Airways.

Speaking of the deal  Jim Albaugh president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes said:

“It sustains a lot of jobs in the United States—several thousand.”

Before Sunday’s deal the company already had placed 40 planes on order and by adding 10 more to their request they now have nearly as many twin-aisle planes on order as they currently operate.  The company also operates Airbus A330s, A340s and a double-decker A380.

The $18 billion purchase for the Dubai government owned carrier comes just after the country has begun to climbed out of a debt-fueled meltdown.

As a country that has prided themselves in recent memory for creating a new tourist destination this might be exactly what they need to succeed into the future.  Do you think it’s smart for a Dubai government owned company to be doubling the size of their fleet when the country is still struggling to once again regain their financial footing?

Dubai’s Emirates Airline Purchases Record Number Of Boeing 777 Aircraft is a post from: The Inquisitr

A 23-year-old woman from London was arrested after reporting a rape in Dubai for “illegal sex” with her fiance, unrelated to the alleged rape.

The woman, who is unnamed owing to the sexual assault aspect of the case, was celebrating her engagement in Dubai over the new year. The couple consumed alcohol during the course of the celebration, and the woman lost consciousness in the women’s restrooms. It is believed a waiter in the luxury hotel where the couple stayed followed the woman into the bathroom where the rape occurred with the woman in a semi-conscious state. After the attack, the woman’s fiance returned her to their room, unaware of the attack.

The following morning, the woman realized what had occurred and the couple visited the Jebel Ali police station to report the attack. However, the couple soon found themselves to be in legal trouble for the events surrounding the incident:

Police began to question the couple about breaking the emirate’s strict decency laws. Usual rape procedures were ignored and the woman was given a full medical check and a morning-after pill only after the intervention of British embassy staff, the paper reported.

Her attacker is believed to have denied rape, saying the woman, a British Muslim of Pakistani descent, consented, but he has also been charged with “illegal sex”.

It is understood the couple have been bailed but are still in Dubai. They could face up to six years if found guilty of having sex outside marriage.

The Foreign Office confirmed the arrests and that the couple had been bailed out, but offered no further information on the case.

Sphere Networks is a software development firm that specializes in enterprise management solutions. The company was founded in 2005 by Mohamed Hamedi, a former software engineer at HP. Sphere Networks employs 26 people in the United Arab Emirates, developing enterprise level network management solutions which are already in use with a number of government customers in the region.

Brad Pitt must have hidden design skillz just waiting to bust out, since he’ll be part of a team of consultants working on an eco-friendly hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The 800-room luxury hotel will hold various award ceremonies and celebrity events, and will also contain a large social complex. According to the Telegraph, being an architect has been one of Brad’s dreams for some time, and it’s much more believable when you read his own statement released on the project:

“Whilst acting is my career, architecture is my passion. Selecting this development as my first major construction project has been a simple decision. We will be unveiling precise plans in the next few months, but you can expect something that is not only stunning to look at, but will also be an incredible attraction to visit or stay at.”

I’m still itching to call free advertising! Graft architecture firm, which is overseeing this Zabeel Properties project, has some marketing genius going on for sure.
