Former Giants running back Tiki Barber is reportedly disappointed but moving forward with his life after all 32 NFL teams passed on the player as he attempted to make a comeback to football.

Barber retired in 2006, and in the intervening years, has attracted more attention for his work in entertainment and tumultuous personal life than anything athletic. The athlete and twin of fellow NFL player Ronde Barber made several unsuccessful forays into entertainment and reporting since his 2006 retirement, and made headlines in 2010 when he left his wife of ten years, Ginny, who was due to imminently give birth to the couple’s twins. Barber took up with 23-year-old NBC intern Traci Lynn Johnson.

Barber actually managed to make the situation more controversial- in addition to abandoning his heavily pregnant wife, he later commented on hiding in his agent’s attic while the situation persisted. Of staying with Mark Lepselter, Barber remarked: “Lep’s Jewish, and it was like a reverse Anne Frank thing.” The offensive comments were widely condemned.

Lepselter offered comment on Barber’s failure to be selected for any NFL teams:

“This is the last time I am speaking on this subject in any way, shape or form. You can’t worry about the things in life you can’t control and Tiki has moved forward accordingly.”

Sports Illustrated‘s Peter King said Lepselter told him:

“We are flabbergasted that Tiki has not had an opportunity with any team, especially when rosters were at 90 players this year (during training camp). I certainly thought some team would be intrigued to see what he had left in the tank.”

No mention was made of Barber’s plans after his NFL rejection.

Neil Patrick Harris shared his unvarnished opinions on actor Eric Braeden with his million plus Twitter followers after Braeden unkindly declined to fulfill a promise to appear on NPH-starring sitcom How I Met Your Mother.

NPH took to Twitter to bash the actor for backing out and dissing the role, so says Harris:

Eric Braeden is a D-Bag. the actor, (Robin’s dad) agreed to a cameo, then last night bailed, saying the part wasn’t ‘substantial’ enough.

Harris reports, though, that the role has thankfully been filled by an undouchey actor:

We’ve recast with Ray Wise, a fantastic actor who makes any part ‘substantial’. Super excited to welcome him to the family!

TV Guide points out that Braeden was unlikely to want to reprise the role, as he didn’t really want it last time around:

The actor’s exit from Mother is not too surprising: He told TVGuide.com in 2008 that he didn’t want to do the show in the first place.

“I was talked into it by family and agents saying it was one of the highest-ranked shows and this and that,” he said then. “And I enjoyed it enormously.”

Braeden has not commented on NPH’s “d-bag” allegations.

A pair of robbers got a nasty shock when they attempted to rob the PC Gamerz gaming cafe in Kaneohe, Hawaii at the weekend. Rather than meekly hand over their money and gaming gear, the gamers in the café fought back, after one of them was asked to hand over his Nintendo DS.

Both robbers were swiftly sent packing from the venue, but not before the cameras in the café picked up the entire altercation, with the would-be robbers engulfed in a cloud of flying geek fists and Cheetos dust. Full, awesome footage below:

Former Giants running back and current sportscaster and sports blogger Tiki Barber announced a split from his wife Ginny, to whom he has been married for 11 years.

Barber is said to have left his wife, who is eight months pregnant with twins, for 23-year-old intern Traci Lynn Johnson. The news about Barber is particularly surprising when compared with statements he made about his own father’s fidelity in a New York Post interview a few years back:

“I don’t give a [bleep] that the relationship didn’t work,” he said of his parents’ split in a 2004 Post interview. “Not only did he abandon her, I felt like he abandoned us for a lot of our lives. I have a hard time forgiving that.”

Barber, who has two sons with Ginny, ages 6 and 7, released the following statement regarding the split:

“After 11 years of marriage, Ginny and I have decided to separate,” Barber said. “This decision was a painful one, but we are moving forward amicably and will continue to work together to raise our children with the love and dedication they have always known.”

A spokesman for Barber declined further comment on the matter.

Professional bag of douche religious leader Pat Robertson has spoken out about the earthquake in Haiti and massive amount of death and destruction, calling the widespread suffering “a blessing in disguise” and basically blaming the people of Haiti for their plight.

Robertson claims that the “people of Haiti” made a pact with Satan to free themselves from French rule, and that while that plan worked, they’ve been cursed with poverty and natural disasters ever since:

And, you know, Kristi, something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, “We will serve you if you will get us free from the French.” True story. And so, the devil said, “OK, it’s a deal.”

You may say, no- that’s not possible- no one could possible be that massive a dick. But seriously, don’t believe it? Watch the footage below. I’d like to take this opportunity to point out that Robertson is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and Jesus said it was harder for a rich man to enter heaven than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle. If you leave a crude comment on Kurt Greenbaum’s St. Louis Dispatch articles, he’d like a word. With your boss.

Greenbaum penned an admittedly (by the author) lame piece Friday for the Dispatch, a “nice, soft edition of (Talk of the Day),” asking readers to post in the comments:

How about you? Have you gone out on a limb for a meal? What’d you try? Did you like it? Have you had friends or family who have tried stuff on a dare?

Predictably, one commenter replied with one word- the p-word, used to describe a woman’s nether regions. So Greenbaum, the site’s director of social media, did what any logical person posting articles on the web would do- he tracked down the dude who commented and got him fired. Greenbaum smugly details his sleuthing in a later post bragging about the incident:

A few minutes later, the same guy posted the same single-word comment again. I deleted it, but noticed in the WordPress e-mail alert that his comment had come from an IP address at a local school. So I called the school. They were happy to have me forward the e-mail, though I wasn’t sure what they’d be able to do with the meager information it included.

About six hours later, I heard from the school’s headmaster. The school’s IT director took a shine to the challenge. Long story short: Using the time-frame of the comments, our website location and the IP addresses in the WordPress e-mail, he tracked it back to a specific computer. The headmaster confronted the employee, who resigned on the spot.

Greenbaum gets even more villainous in the comments himself, reminding commenters that he “didn’t say (the unidentified, now-jobless man) got fired” and only that he “resigned.” Although the commenter was stupid and Greenbaum’s actions were distasteful and excessive, this incident serves as a caution that nothing you say on the web is truly anonymous, and that goes double for at work. While fear of reprisal is never a really great reason to STFU, if you’re going to go out on a limb (or be pushed onto one) at least hope it’s for something better than a tired joke.

I thought perhaps I was the only one who found this commercial to be in horrendous taste, but apparently Gawker did, too.

David Spade, whose buddy films and general camaraderie with SNL castmate Chris Farley arguably carried the show through the mid to late 90s, doesn’t seem to be doing much these days. But he still has time to trot out the memory of Farley in a really sad and creepy way in a DirecTV commercial. Spade does a bit interspliced with Farley’s “fat guy in a little coat” performance in Tommy Boy. I caught this spot during last night’s Yankees game and was really, really surprised that it was allowed to happen. It even seemed crass to hear Spade refer to Farley as “tons of fun,” insulting a dead man out of the context of the film from over a decade ago.

Granted, the Spade/Farley stuff from the 90s hasn’t aged well, but it cracked me up when the two dominated SNL and this commercial definitely sours future watchings of Tommy Boy for me. Sad. (And shameless.)

Insufferable douchebag Tucker Max’s long hemmed and hawed over movie I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell is closer to release. (Believe it or not, it’s based on a book of the same name.) The trailer just dropped on MySpace, and kind of looks like a TV movie version of The Hangover. But even less funny than that, if you can imagine it.

Professional jerk-off “military analyst” and retired Army colonel Ralph Peters, appearing on a Fox News show, tripped a collective WTF wire when he suggested the Taliban should just off captured US Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl and “save us a lot of legal hassles and legal bills.” Oh, bitch, you did NOT.

And why exactly should this young man who is serving our country in Afghanistan be treated so callously? Well he “might be” a deserter. Or something like that. Of the maybe sorta kinda I heard desertion accusation, Peters said:

“…on that video, he is collaborating with the enemy.  Under duress or not – that’s really not relevant - he’s making accusations about the behavior of the military in Afghanistan that are unfounded, saying that there are no rules, he’s lying about how he was captured, saying he lagged behind the patrol.  Julie, I’ll tell you, any 11th bravo infantrymen will tell you, that’s not how it works.  In a war zone, any soldier is aware of where all his buddies are.  If it’s a night patrol, you’re sure aware of where the guy in front of you and behind you is.  So we know that this private is a liar.  We’re not sure if he’s a deserter.  But the media needs to hit the pause button, and not portray this guy as a hero.”

Peters also said:

“Well, Julie, I was to stress first of all that we must wait until all of the facts are in until we make a final judgment.  But nobody in the military that I’ve heard is defending this guy.  He is an apparent deserter.  Reports are indeed that he abandoned his buddies, abandoned his post, and walked off.  We’ll see what the ultimate truth of it is, but if he did, if he’s a deserter at wartime, well, as one of my old platoon sargeants would say, he’s in ‘beaucoup deep kimchi.’”

A liar and a coward. What a heartwarming show of solidarity and victim blaming understanding as one of our soldiers remains in captivity and could be killed at any time. Oh, but don’t worry, it’s like Pfc. Bergdahl’s at summer camp!

For right now, I think he’s okay.  They’re not going to kill him right away, if at all, because he is tremendous propaganda value.  He’s making anti-American statements, I mean, he wants to investigate Islam, blah blah blah.

And hey, who knows, the man who gave up his life and his youth at home to go fight wars might just be on the up and up, says Peters, in which case, no harm, no foul. You know, like unless he’s horrifically beheaded and he was totally innocent.

Now look, Julie, I want to be clear.  If, when the facts are in, we find out that through some convoluted chain of events, he really was captured by the Taliban, I’m with him.  But, if he walked away from his post and his buddies at wartime… I don’t care how hard it sounds, as far as I’m concerned, the Taliban can save us a lot of legal hassles and legal bills.

Tell you what, Taliban- how’s about we trade? One crusty retired Army dude who Fox News will air for a brave and handsome young man you’ve got over there.
