What could possibly replace Desperate Housewives- with its lush visuals, Mary Alice’s soothing voice and the uptempo background music- when the long-running ABC nighttime soap ends it run at the close of its current season?

The show became a pop-culture sensation when it premiered in 2004, and the core cast have endured all manner of delightfully ridiculous plot machinations as the show has wended its way through eight seasons of suicides, divorces, serial killers, weddings, babies and tornadoes. But as Desperate Housewives draws ever closer to its final curtain call, creator Marc Cherry has some very vague hinting about the show’s final surprises to bestow upon fans.

Cherry says that Desperate Housewives has had to illustrate its characters far more deeply than Sex in the City, so don’t expect any big-screen Dubai trips after the finale airs, as he believes the wives of Wisteria Lane’s storylines are all tapped out. In fact, it nearly sounds like Cherry is a bit done with the whole Housewives thing:

“’Sex and The City’ only did a total of, I think, 69 episodes, so I always thought that the advantage for them was that they hadn’t really plumbed the depths of those characters. After eight years, boy, I think we’re done. And I’m happy about that. That’s not a bad thing. I feel very satisfied with where we are.”

Cherry did confirm that he plans to make an appearance in one of the show’s final episodes, but not a major one:

“Yeah, I’m gonna do a Hitchcock. And the hair and makeup people will go through more hell that day than they’ve ever gone through.”

Aside from that, the soap mastermind says don’t hold your breath for spoilers, because he’s locking them down in a major way so as not to ruin the Desperate Housewives end-of-run twists for loyal fans:

“I’m so not revealing what the end is gonna be. It’s a surprise and I’m being hyper-protective of it. No comment on that.”

Desperate Housewives Ending to Be Super Secret, No Sex in the City Glitz, Cherry Says is a post from: The Inquisitr

Desperate Housewives and it’s residents on Wisteria Lane will be making their victory lap next season as the show’s run draws to an end and the series is officially canceled by ABC.

Speaking to the AP ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee said of the final season:

“I just wanted to make sure that this show that sort of put this network on the map — certainly the new brand of this network for the last six or seven years — had its victory lap. Had a chance to really set out every episode and build an arc for those 22 episodes so that we could say goodbye to this iconic show.”

The announcement didn’t really surprise anyone in the industry as it was already known that show creator Marc Cherry was leaving as show producer next season, while ratings for the former top rated show have been on a drastic decline over the last several seasons.

In an ABC press release the company said the final season:

“will roll out in a way that is accessible even to viewers who may have lapsed in their viewing, and be all the richer and more rewarding for the series’ loyal fans.”

The final season of Desperate Housewives will premiere on September 25 and following each episode will be the networks new thriller Pan Am which they hope will pick up ratings where Housewives have left off.

Ricardo Chavira was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Chavira plays Eva Longoria’s husband on the hit show Desperate Housewives.

Chavira was pulled over at 2AM as part of a routine traffic stop when police officers smelled alcohol on his breath. He took several field sobriety tests that didn’t go the way he hoped and he was immediately arrested for DUI.

The actor refused blood and breath tests and his reps have not yet commented on his arrest.

It’s been a popular week for alcohol related celebrity arrests, Andy Dick on Monday night was arrested at Marie Callendar’s restaurant for public intoxication.

Nicollette Sheridan has called it a day, and is leaving Desperate Housewives.

Sheridan plays Edie Britt on Wisteria Lane, a role that made her globally famous, although she has a long career on television, having appeared in Knots Landing, Spy Hard and Beverly Hills Ninja.

ABC confirmed her departure, but did not say when she would last appear on the show.

Soap come drama come occasional bitch fest Desperate Housewives will be back next year, and every year until 2013, which a spy tells us is the year the guarantee on Eva Longoria’s plastic surgery runs out.

The show has rated well this year despite tired cast and poor story line, but perhaps overplayed escapism is hot this recession, how else could you explain another 5 years of overpaid acting.

Desperate Housewives first hit ABC in 2004 and stars Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Hodge, Eva Longoria Parker as Gabrielle Solis, Nicollette Sheridan as Edie Britt and, from season four onwards, Dana Delany as Katherine Mayfair. Brenda Strong narrates the show as the deceased Mary Alice Young.

OK Magazine is reporting that Nicolette Sheridan and David Spade have been using overt PDA (public displays of affection) to cnfirm that they are a couple.

The Desperate Housewives star was celebrating her 45th birthday at new L.A. hot spot Luau in Beverly Hills — the same place they were spotted together a few weeks ago at the grand opening — and onlookers tell OK!, “Nicolette and David were full-on making out!”

The duo arrived separately and even started the dinner at separate booths but couldn’t resist each other for long! According to witnesses, Spade winked at Sheridan and stood at her side while she blew out the candles on her cake. After that, the two retreated to a booth where they cuddled and kissed.

It wasn’t that long ago that Nicollette Sheridan was broke up with Michael Bolton, so we suppose that David Spade isn’t that fanciful an idea. Also David Spade seems to have a way with the ladiez having previously been linked to Heather Lochlear (who also has questionable taste in men) and various play boy bunnies, including Jillian Grace. Jillian Grace gave birth to a baby girl in August 2008 and Spade confirmed in September this year that the child was his.

Am I the only one who thinks this is gross? I guess she really is a Desperate Housewife.

Eva Longoria shot out at pregnancy rumors recently in OK!, saying “I’m not pregnant. I’m just fat. I gained 5lb over the summer so instead of a size zero, I’m a size one.”

Wow. Bringing numbers into that one doesn’t prove much of a point, considering a good deal of women will be cringing when they see sizes “0″ and “1″ anywhere near the word “fat.”

Don’t worry. She’s barely over 5 feet tall, so her size 1 is our size 8 (or something like that). Repeat after me: it’s all relative.
