Kathy Griffin caught everyone by surprise when she stripped down during CNN’s New Year’s Eve countdown broadcast from Times Square, and now she’s done it again. Recalling the “event” on The Late Show, Griffin decided to recreate the scene and stripped down for David Letterman.

“You know, it went well for me,” Griffin told Letterman of the stunt before stripping. “Every year I try to up the ante a little bit. I’ve done it for five years now and I’ve been fired four years in a row…One year I said the f-word so I had to give the money back.”

“I didn’t want to get fired,” she continued. “So this year I thought, ‘What can I do to not get canned?’ I thought it would be appropriate in Times Square to create a moment, so I took my clothes off. I didn’t tell anyone, I didn’t tell Anderson.”

After showing the clip, Griffin threatened to strip down in front of the Late Show audience, and .. well, Letterman gave her the go-ahead.

“Go ahead. Wow, this is nice,” Letterman replied, apparently eager to accomodate Griffin. “Is there anything I can do? I don’t think I should…Wow, oh my, oh buddy. We’re gonna need some pliers.”

According to a report by the New York Post, Eddie Brill, who served as David Letterman’s comedy booker on The Late Show, has been fired as a result of his comments in a recent profile by the New York Times, in which he said: “There are a lot less female comics who are authentic. I see a lot of female comics who, to please an audience, will act like men.”

Brill, who held his position as booker for The Late Show for 10 years, will reportedly still be involved in the show as a “warm up” for the studio audience ahead of the telecast. The Post reports that Brill’s now-vacant position will be filled in by a small group of producers.

Brill’s comments were perceived by some to be an attack on the idea that female comics are just as funny as men, but not everyone thinks the comments should have been taken so seriously, including stand-up comedian Lisa Lampanelli.

“I was really surprised and unhappy about that,” Lampanelli commented to the Post. “It’s funny how you can get fired for an opinion. He should be allowed to say what he wants.”

David Letterman is reportedly in talks with CBS to extend his contract for at least two more years into 2014, which would make him the longest running late-night show host since the 30-year run of Letterman’s idol, Johnny Carson.

The news comes from a report by the New York Times, who says that executives involved in the talks between CBS and Worldwide Pants, Letterman’s production company, confirmed that a deal for the Late Show host to remain on the air until 2014 is “imminent”.

Craig Ferguson, host of the “Late Late Show“, is also in the middle of similar talks to extend his contract with CBS as well, CBS said in a statement.

“As would be expected at this time, we’re having conversations with both Dave and Craig about future years. There are no further details to announce at this time,” the network said.

When Letterman renewed his contract back in 2010, there was talk that once his contract runs out in August of this year, he would be retiring. Over the past several months, however, reports from people “close” to Letterman said that the late-night host was considering sticking around for at least a few more years. Going by NYT’s report, that does appear to be the case.

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry appeared on the David Letterman show On Thursday night where he personally delivered the “Top 10 Rick Perry Excuses” for being unable to remember the three federal agencies he would get rid of.

When talking to Letterman during the segment it was funny to hear the GOP contender say so his lost moment of clarity:

“Hey, listen. You try concentrating with Mitt Romney smiling at you. That is one handsome dude.”

You may recall that during his GOP debate Perry could only remember two of the three agencies he would get rid of if elected president.

In case you were curious he would eliminate the Commerce, Education and Energy departments.

Apparently if you’re attempts to attack the U.S. have failed you’re next target should be David Letterman. The talk show host recently made fun of dead terrorist Ilyas Kashmiri on his show and now a jihadist has taken to the web to issue a jihad against Letterman.

The radical terrorist appeared on the Shumukh al-Islam web forum asking that forum members “cut the tongue of the lowly jew.” There’s only one problem with the remarks, Letterman is a Presbyterian.

The terrorist wrote on the forum:

“I saw with my own eyes and heard with my own ears, one of the lowlifes of the Jews, and one of their pigs, mocking one of the leaders of the mujahedeen.”

The New York Daily News spoke with a former FBI agent who said threats of this type should not be taken lightly, noting:

“If I am the guy targeted in one of those things, I would be taking it seriously and hunker down.”

Letterman’s reps have refused to comment on the threat to his life and Letterman is currently on his summer hiatus from the show.

Letterman isn’t the first comedian to have calls of jihad raised against him, when Trey Parker and Matt Stone thought about showing a cartoon image of Muhammad on their popular Comedy Central cartoon South Park they had so many threats against them and their loved ones that they decided to skip producing the episode, marking one of the only times in the shows history that the South Park team has backed down from a piece of controversy.

The former star of Fat Actress appeared on Late Night With David Letterman, and instead of playing nice, Alley whipped out a page of transcribed Letterman fat-jokes- all of which were about her. While Letterman squirmed, the 60-year-old star read out the jokes Letterman had made at her expense about her weight gain.

It doesn’t negate the fact that fat jokes are a horrible thing to be the subject of, but Alley’s in-your-face delivery without shame was kind of a victory point for every girl in the world who has ever jiggled. The fact that, at 60, she looks incredible and amazing and did so on Dave’s show didn’t hurt either.

A producer for the show “48 Hours” was arrested on Thursday after allegedly attempting to extort David Letterman over his extramarital affair.

Letterman confessed his sin on his show Thursday night, disclosing that while he had been having an affair with a show staffer, someone else had attempted to extort money from him.

The suspect is reported as Robert J. Halderman. He has apparently been charged with attempted grand larceny after giving Letterman an ultimatum to pay him $2 million or to risk having his affairs with female “Late Show” employees made public.

Letterman explained further on his show that he had testified before a grand jury earlier that day: “This morning I did something I’ve never done in my life and it was a combination of just unusual and scary..I had to go downtown to testify before the grand jury and I had to tell them how I…felt menaced by this and I had to tell them all of the creepy things that I have done.”

Britney Spears made her first appearance on Letterman since 2006 Tuesday night (August 18) as part of the promotional tour for her Circus concert series.

Brtiney, dressed to impress on Letterman in a skimpy two piece black bikini, read off “Top 10 Ways the Country Would Be Different if Britney Spears Were President.” Highlights included “I’d be the first president to wear eye shadow since Nixon,” and “Three words: Vice President Diddy.”

The kicker was in the final item though, when Britney noted that “Finally the media would pay attention to me.”

Bruno read out a hilarious top 10 list on Letterman Thursday night. It was the second time he’s been on the show in a week.

Sacha Baron Cohen, who was on Letterman on Tuesday as himself to promote the new Bruno movie, showed up in character as Bruno on Thursday night’s episode. Bruno read out the top 10 list while wearing a gold colored jumpsuit and hat.

The top ten reasons to see ‘Bruno was the theme of the list and Cohen included things like “”Features lots of suggestive worlds like ‘Bratwurst’ and ‘Schnitzel’” and “It’s like ‘Transformers’ but not as gay.”

In the wake of controversy surrounding David Letterman’s lewd comments about Sarah palin’s daughters, CBS has lost an advertiser.

Embassy Suites, part of the Hilton Hotel chain, has pulled their advertising from CBS web properties after recieving numerous complaints from concerned customers.

A spokesperson for Embassy Suites/Hilton Hotels said:

“We received lots of e-mails from concerned guests and we assessed that the statement that he made was offensive enough to our guests and prospective guests that we elected to take the ads down.”

Embassy Suites ads did not air during Letterman’s show.

A rally is planned outside the Ed Sullivan theater in Manhattan on Tuesday following calls by Sarah Palin supporters to “fire David Letterman.”

Letterman drew a considerable amount of outrage after a controversial crack at Yankee Stadium that Bristol Palin was “knocked up” by Alex Rodriguez- during the seventh inning. He further got right-wing panties in a knot by likening Palin’s look to that of a “slutty flight attendant” during one of his “Top Ten” segments last week.

While it is unlikely such a cultural icon will be unseated so easily, the movement has drawn some high-profile supporters. Palin superfan John Ziegler has predictably joined the fray, and New York State Minority Leader Brian Kolb is also calling for Letterman’s firing.

David Letterman and long-time girlfriend Regina Lasko married March 19 at the Teton County Courthouse in Choteau, Montana.

Letterman told the audience at the pre-recording of The Late Show to be shown Monday night that “Regina and I began dating in February of 1986, and I said, `Well, things are going pretty good, let’s just see what happens in about 10 years.” The pair have one child, Harry, born in November 2003.

The marriage didn’t go exactly as planned, with Letterman telling the audience that he managed to bog his truck on the way to the courthouse. “So now we think, `Well, somebody’ll come.’ No, nobody comes along. Disgraced former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich continues his bizarre “I’m innocent” media tour, this time checking in with David Letterman.

The late comic David Hicks, famous for being the perhaps the only person cut from a David Letterman show, finally made the cut tonight, 15 years after he appeared.

David Hicks made his one and only Letterman appearance in October 1993, before passing away from pancreatic cancer in early 1994.

David Letterman invited David Hick’s mother on the show, and apologized for the cut 15 years before. “Let me again apologize for the heartache and sadness my decision caused your family,” Letterman told Hicks’ mother. “I appreciate you saying that,” she said.

In the clip, Hicks talks about religion and the pro-life movement. “If you’re so pro-life, do me a favor. Don’t lock arms and block medical clinics. If you’re so pro-life, lock arms and block cemeteries.” On Christians wearing crucifixes: “Do you think when Jesus comes back he’s gonna want to see a cross?”

Finally someone said what I’ve been dying to hear about Lauren Conrad. If you take a look at The Hills, she’s got a revolving door of drama that shifts from Heidi to Spencer to Justin Bobby to Audrina to Doug to Stephanie Pratt to even her bestest friend Lauren “Lo” Bosworth. Has nobody told her to her face that “It’s not me, it’s you?” Well, David Letterman kind of stepped up to the plate.

When Lauren stopped by Letterman last night, she made the crucial error of saying that it wasn’t just Heidi Montag she was having problems with, but “a little bit of everyone.” Nice. Letterman countered by asking her “Who is it? Maybe you’re the problem.” Pause at 1:20 for the most uncomfortable look ever as she contemplates her response.

And then he kind of accidentally calls her an idiot. I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it, because it’s pretty rare that someone rags on LC– to her face, that is. The sheer novelty made me love it, especially when we get a dash of Brody insulting to go along with it!
